Installing multiple cabs and preferences - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hope this isn't too dumb a question and isn't posted too far off where it should be.
Firstly these forums are excellent and through them I've managed to cusomise my phone through various additional cabs files and tweaks. In fact I'm now that happy with the results that I'd now like to roll out these settings and programs to about 100 phones, probably HTC Touch Cruises and HTC Atmoses.
Could anyone give me some pointers on installing multiple cabs, registry entries and profile settings.
Also does anybody know of a registry comparison utility that will tell me what registry entries have been changed, e.g. before and after. A lot to ask I know.
Thanks in advance.

What do these .cab do in the extended rom?

First let me say, I've searched this site, googled these questions and used wiki.xda-developers.com to try and answers my questions before posting. I couldn't find the answers.
I've downloaded and installed the T-Mobile UK ROM on my JasJar (I know that imate has a more "updated ROM", but I want A2DP and I don't really care about Push Email. Plus, the "Lock" function is playing havoc with my GPS Applications. Anyway, here are my questions. What do these CABs do? (Found in the UK Extended ROM v1.20)
Remove_CE_UA.sa.cab
Signed_TMO_Add-MSN_Del-SAPSettins.sa.CAB
Signed_UNI_TMO_UAProf.sa.CAB
Signed_USIM.sa.CAB
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll post a full explanation of what all the CABs do in the extended rom once I figure out what the remaining four do.
Also, is there a way to "view" what a CAB file does? Do I need a hex editor?
Thanks
Justin
Download WinCE cab manager and you can see what each cab file does. It will show what registry changes, files added, etc, There is usually a xml file that changes the registry and will show you what is removed or added. The software is not cheap, but you can download a trial, that lets you open it upto 30 times (so download and keep it open until you have examined all the cab file in your extended rom) It can also be used to make your own cab files. I used it to create my personal settings like owner, ie tweaks, registry tweaks, etc
Thank you....
Eagle1,
Thanks for the tip. It was invaluable. I was able to piece together what (I think) each of the cab files do (both with the Extended ROM from I-Mate and the one from T-Mobile). I'll try to post my findings in the next couple of days. It may be a good thing to add to wiki.xda-developers.com if there is enough interest in it. The post will be VERY LONG, because I cut all the XML files and pasted into my Word Document. It now sits are ~22 pages for just the T-Mobile stuff. It'll be longer because I'd like to comment on the changes. Some were new registry changes, but others were not (so I really don't understand the purposes of those cab files).
Anyway, again thanks for your help. I now know a lot more than when I started. BTW, the program link you sent me has changed their "Trial Period". It now only lets you open it 15 times vice 30. Just FYI. Thanks again.

Need some help with mda vario

ok I've just got an mda vario or htc wizard as they seem to be called a lot and theres a few things i'd like to be able to do. I got a bit tired trapseing through a lot of posts and ending up without the result I wanted.
well to start, I'm running the 1.6.2.4os that came already installed.
and here's what I want to do...
1)make sure its completely unlocked, CID ,SIM extended
rom, everything, preferably free and all in one go.
2)improve performance, am I right in thinking omap overclock is a good answer to this? is it free? increase the glyph cache? disable animation on start menu? any other tips
3) customizing, quite a few things,
3.1) I want to make my own phone dialler tried bitmaps in windows directory didn't work so I'm using one of the zphone skins for the moment I could modify that but don't really want it in add/remove programs or that extra directory. is there any way to increase the size of the contact's picture?
3.2) sips, want to customize them. anyone know what dlls to edit (my own assumption there) also I wouldn't mind knowing why buzz lightyears keyboard skins wouldn't work for me.
3.3) today screen, colours are fine, easily done but I want to replace icons/ text, for example, have an icon displaying a missed call which would change appropriately. a easily accesible task manager would be nice there too.
4)the camera. seems to be a bit dark at times, is there a better auto-adjustment or flash driver or whatever for it?
ill, probably add more later, but for now, that'll do. any help is much appreciated, please remember I'm a big cheapskate and so i'd rather do this stuff for free any non-free solutions are also appreciated but please state which. thanks again.
when I'm finished i'll put together a nice little guide for other people to follow and any info I use will be accredited (naturally)
Hi, you better have posted this in the wizard forum.
First you need to super cid unlock see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796 and follow machinegods instructions.
Second intall nicodekker's registry wizard for easy tweaking of cache & animation http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725
Third not easy to increase the size of the contact picture - only possible to do with eten dialler see here or buzzdev.net http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725 or here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35326
You can change the diallers yourself see my own here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44560&start=125
Buzz's keyboard skins dont work for most devices, hav'nt seen a report on them working on a wizard - waiting on buzz to give us a fix.
Task manager - many people are using magic button free or could try wisbar advance 1 thats free and you can change some of the icons with wisbar. Google for both.
Thanas posted a fix for the camera see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45123
Hope that helps
Please post futher posts in the wizard forum - i dont want to start a wizard thread in this forum
And you'd be better splitting your questions up into 2 or 3 posts as you will tend to get more replies - luckily i was just passing thru this forum.
Welcome to the wizard club!
moving forum
ok, how do I move this to the wizard forum?
Only moderator can do that. You can post any unawnsered questions or partially answered questions in the wizard forum.

"Recently-used-programs"-List

Hello,
I am using a HTC P3300 (aka Artemis).
I recently updated it to the official HTC WM6 roms.
During the last days I have often looked into these forums to get some help for different things that I wanted to costumized, and I was happy to see that everything worked, so now I am giving you a hard one to solve.
In the start menu of WM6 is the so-called "Recent Programs"-List. I want to get rid of this list, unfortunately it is not as easy as it is in WindowsXP for example. I looked into the registry but I haven't found anything, but I am honest, I am not a registry-pro, perhaps I missed something.
Or is there a program able to to that? I don't want to do every day a cleanup.
To give you some motivation, until now (in WM5 and WM6) nobody could help me, except for the answer "it is impossible" , so I hope you guys will be up to it.
Thanks a lot in advance.
here you go...
instructions are in the zip file attached
if you want more details check out...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302377
HKCU>Software>Microsoft>SHELL>TaskSwitch>
You will need to clear/delete the entries under it one by one or delete the "TaskSwitch" folder and then perform a soft reset to load the changes in the registry. The TaskSwitch folder will be re-built upon performing a soft reset.
Thanks.
Just checking it if I understood correctly the solutions you have provided.
What you two are proposing above, is a cleanup that has to be done or will be done automatically when I start my P3300.
Is there no possibility to simply turn the list off, like in XP? So that WM6 will not create any shortcut after I launched a program? Then there would be no need to turn the P3300, just to empty the list.
Thanks again for your help.
Yes thats correct. If someone knows a way of turning it off please let us know
Update
I know this is an old thread.
But if anyone wants to know how to disable this on a smartphone..
These are specifically for a BlackJack II. But it should be similar accross the board.
There are two shell entries we need to focus on:
:MSStart - full start menu
:MSMRULauncher - recent programs list.
If we navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSMRULauncher
Edit the value for 0 to be "MSStart" instead of "MSMRULauncher"
Edit the value for 1 to be the same as the MSSTART key e.g. - "appman.exe -s BootApps :MSStart tpcutil.dll AMStart"
When you hit the start key on your smartphone device it should jump straight to the all programs menu,
better solution
while this may work, it ruins that mru thingy and turns it into a start menu...
more elegant solution is to
set string value "Command" to ":MSStart"
in key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu
That will simply tell Windows that default action for calling start menu from shell is MSStart while keeping mru in working state... also, there are several other interesting values out there, like order, you can set specific order of items in start menu... wiping this value may result in alphabetical sorting of all items, including those "important" like messaging, settings and so on... hope it helps

Registry change permanently?

It seems that several users are claiming that some registry changes stay permanent (i.e. waking-up Diamond when SMS came) and some not (i.e. not showing the SIM Card contacts).
Yes, I have used Search, and got different solutions proposed but all directed to a particular problem.
Is there a more general solution that noobs like me are missing about:
keeping the registry changes permanent (I mean resisting to at least a Soft Reset)?
Thanks for advice, reading, guiding.
general solution:
use Resco registry editor. one hassle less.
Please note that if any program (say TF3D ) writes to the registry when loading, there's not much you can do, except a delayed script... and even that might not solved if there's a timer running in the background.
Thanks anyway for replying. So, I will test to kill TF3D to see...
So, last results... for instance regarding the SIM contacts view:
RESCO (excellent tools btw): ok up to the next reset.
Without TF3D: again some register changes are erased by the first soft reset.
So enough with that, probably will be solved with a cooked ROM...?
Best.

Registry Comparison Problem

Hi all,
did somebody work out good filters for Advanced Registry Tracer or similar Application to concentrate on the changes that do matter.
I got the problem, that a lot of registry entries are changed without any addiction to the install that was made, so i get a bit of lost in many changes that might not correspond to my problem to find the registry keys that really are done or needed to integrate microsofts voice command in my ROM.
Any input would be really apprecciated!
bestr regards
peet
