Registry change permanently? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

It seems that several users are claiming that some registry changes stay permanent (i.e. waking-up Diamond when SMS came) and some not (i.e. not showing the SIM Card contacts).
Yes, I have used Search, and got different solutions proposed but all directed to a particular problem.
Is there a more general solution that noobs like me are missing about:
keeping the registry changes permanent (I mean resisting to at least a Soft Reset)?
Thanks for advice, reading, guiding.

general solution:
use Resco registry editor. one hassle less.

Please note that if any program (say TF3D ) writes to the registry when loading, there's not much you can do, except a delayed script... and even that might not solved if there's a timer running in the background.

Thanks anyway for replying. So, I will test to kill TF3D to see...

So, last results... for instance regarding the SIM contacts view:
RESCO (excellent tools btw): ok up to the next reset.
Without TF3D: again some register changes are erased by the first soft reset.
So enough with that, probably will be solved with a cooked ROM...?
Best.

New Universal ROM from i-mate - Experiences

After some tricks at another thread, succeded to unlock Extended ROM.
However, can't find there the usuall 'Config.txt'. Is it normal? Any clue?
the wm5 extended rom's do not seem to use a config.txt file. They use the autorun and setup files. If you add something to the extended rom, put Default_ infront of the file name.
But the process I prefer; is to use an old autorun and config.txt file. I think you can find an example in the forum of BTT's extended rom under a thread called my extended rom. Or look on the xda ftp site.
The old way still works great. I also use the config.txt to copy some sounds and files to the windows directory from my sdcard during reset.
But back to the title of your thread:
I am finding that the new rom is faster and more stable. Radio 1.09.00 seems better. IE and gprs seems a lot faster. Of course, I only kept 4 of the files from the Extended rom. Lots of the cabs in the extended rom add bloat and/or remove/modify settings that I did not want. Push email seems to work, not sure I like the new comm manager. Really don''t like that I can not start the comm manager from keyboard after the rom upgrade. But overall its an improvement.
I wonder how different the official release from I-mate will be from this test version?
Please help I am always getting CONNECTION ERROR
The Update software starts fine, nonetheless after the screen where it shows the CURRENT and FUTURE ROM version, it is stuck
At least Extended ROM 1.13.151 WWE from Qtek9000, still uses Config.txt method.
Just Autorun.exe (fileversion 4.15.0.0) is present, and it seems equivalent to the Setup.exe (fileversion 4.16.0.0) on the new i-mate Rom. The Autorun.exe is much smaller and from a different origin.
Maybe this difference relates to, how Qtek and i-mate aproach the subject.
Another topic are my fellings/experiences with this new i-mate ROM, that I'd like to share with you guys.
ROM Version: 1.30.68 WWE
Errors or Lack of implementation
Still not possible to rotate Camera (landscape / portrait).
Universal backlight button still without effect.
Battery indicator replaced the clock on title bar. It is possible to re-activate the clock at settings (Clock & Alarms) to display in all programs, but however it does not work when at Today screen. :-(
Device Lock plugin is a nice feature, however the ability to make a few settings would be very welcomed. For instance 'Lock/Do no lock' buttons.
Despite it is possible to answer a call from BT headset, when device is locked, it is frustrating not being possible to initiate a call from BT headset ('Voice Speed Dial' not called). However it is possible to repeat last number called/dialed.
'Press' and 'Press&Hold' button associations (e.g. As assigned with PowerButtons from OmegaOne Battery Pack Pro), get easly misleaded. It seems internal timers are not workig properly.
My wishes
MS BT stack to implement sending extra info to 'Caller ID' enabled BT headsets. So they can show Contact name instead of caller number only.
Ability to tap handsfree icon at phone app, to toggle handsfree profile, instead of doing it through the menu (old 'profile' today plugin from WM2003, would be nice too).
Somehow allow Activesync to store Contacts PPC specific information, like associated ringtones (ringtone name should be enough) on PC Outlook Contacts. So the information could be later restored if needed, by synching.
Most of them seem to be MS issues, and nothig to do with HTC, Qtek, i-mate, etc...
Except for the first two, that I believe to be HTC issues in fact.

I cant Unlock the ExtROM, how did you do that?
Hope you back soon!
couldnt get MMS or a pop 3 to work.
WMP10 still plays 320/240 and fails to enlarge
Fn -> doesnt work....
of course the battery / clock on the today is one big screw up, but dont think this is an imate issue, more a MS issue
The new Comm Manager requires a full end task from task manager, not a simple stop. there is no help with Comm Manager, and no "intuitive" understanding as to what the other icons do.
No real additional functionality to the device overall in my view.
But much faster and who can therefore complain about the other stuff....
Actually, I think the Battery/Taskbar problem is an I-mate issue. NOT M$!!
o2 did that on their Blueangel. You have to remove the .dll the i-mate cab adds (by preventing it from installing in first place?) and edit registry to show the clock again
The comm manager is very self explanatory, so I have no idea what you are on about
I agree it has a few other problems, but at least the Uni is now a speedy lil devil and not sluggish

I would appreciate if you could tell me which dll to remove and what registry entry to modify. I owuld really like to get rid of the battery icon and see the date/time displayed instead.
Thanks

i've the same problem. I cant Unlock ExtRom!!!
No bluetooth STEREO.
And other minor problem...
I-MATE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
As anyone noticed pocket outlook now checks you email even when you leave it on a sms or mms account! No more worrying about changing the thing back to email after every text message! nice!
I wouldn't know which .dll it is unless I got a hold of the CAB file from the extended ROM. With o2 it was called batteryinfo.dll and was in the \Windows folder, but also had a few Registry entries to go with it. To add the Time in the taskbar have a look at the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"=hex:12,00,00,00
Change 2 as follows:
0:blank, 1:time only, 2:date only, 3:date & time
However, I think this will only work once you remove the i-mate battery add-in.
Could you give me a complete Registry Dump of your Device? That way I may find the registry entry that causes the battery to be shown.
Thanks
The battery icon is a MS issue. I have nothing from the extended ROM installed and still have the battery icon. Don't waste your time looking for a fix in the extended ROM. There must be some registry setting that needs to be changed. I'm still looking too....
For those who can't unlock Extended ROM, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42812&highlight=
Can't say exactly which sequence of actions made it possible, but it is working stable!
The main issue seems to be that Extended ROM folder, should have a name different of 'Extended_ROM' on registry.
I've used:
- 'Extended ROM' first and it didn't work
- than 'ExtROM' it worked
- and now 'Extended ROM' again. It's working!
At the it is even not needed to run the CAB to unlock. The registry tweaks are enough. Strange....

I'd be looking in the registry if someone gave me a dump of the registry like I asked. It is a I-mate Issue, because the Today plugin is not made by M$?
Here you have my registry dump.
Changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"
to 3 for example, displays time&date, but overwritting battery icon.
Defenitely it is needed to disable battery icon on title bar, and force the time to display also when on Today screen.
My most new annoying experience...
Everytime I delete some files from ExtROM that I don't want to install at hardreset, they reappear again after a softreset.
Even powering the device down, and waitting more than 10secs, as seral times suggested in this forum.
Maybe a silly question, but any ideas to overcome this?

Did you run the extrom unlocker cab?
if not try running one of these uni unlockers and see if it works
Don't know if it is of any use but the .dll is called BattBar.dll and is located in the \Windows folder (at least I think that's what its called). Can you send me this file?

Don't you have the Uni? If so, how do you know about the .dll name?

Be it MS or imate, the battery icon is not an Extended ROM issue. That should have been my point...

"Recently-used-programs"-List

Hello,
I am using a HTC P3300 (aka Artemis).
I recently updated it to the official HTC WM6 roms.
During the last days I have often looked into these forums to get some help for different things that I wanted to costumized, and I was happy to see that everything worked, so now I am giving you a hard one to solve.
In the start menu of WM6 is the so-called "Recent Programs"-List. I want to get rid of this list, unfortunately it is not as easy as it is in WindowsXP for example. I looked into the registry but I haven't found anything, but I am honest, I am not a registry-pro, perhaps I missed something.
Or is there a program able to to that? I don't want to do every day a cleanup.
To give you some motivation, until now (in WM5 and WM6) nobody could help me, except for the answer "it is impossible" , so I hope you guys will be up to it.
Thanks a lot in advance.
here you go...
instructions are in the zip file attached
if you want more details check out...

HKCU>Software>Microsoft>SHELL>TaskSwitch>
You will need to clear/delete the entries under it one by one or delete the "TaskSwitch" folder and then perform a soft reset to load the changes in the registry. The TaskSwitch folder will be re-built upon performing a soft reset.
Thanks.
Just checking it if I understood correctly the solutions you have provided.
What you two are proposing above, is a cleanup that has to be done or will be done automatically when I start my P3300.
Is there no possibility to simply turn the list off, like in XP? So that WM6 will not create any shortcut after I launched a program? Then there would be no need to turn the P3300, just to empty the list.
Thanks again for your help.
Yes thats correct. If someone knows a way of turning it off please let us know
Update
I know this is an old thread.
But if anyone wants to know how to disable this on a smartphone..
These are specifically for a BlackJack II. But it should be similar accross the board.
There are two shell entries we need to focus on:
:MSStart - full start menu
:MSMRULauncher - recent programs list.
If we navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSMRULauncher
Edit the value for 0 to be "MSStart" instead of "MSMRULauncher"
Edit the value for 1 to be the same as the MSSTART key e.g. - "appman.exe -s BootApps :MSStart tpcutil.dll AMStart"
When you hit the start key on your smartphone device it should jump straight to the all programs menu,
better solution
while this may work, it ruins that mru thingy and turns it into a start menu...
more elegant solution is to
set string value "Command" to ":MSStart"
in key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu
That will simply tell Windows that default action for calling start menu from shell is MSStart while keeping mru in working state... also, there are several other interesting values out there, like order, you can set specific order of items in start menu... wiping this value may result in alphabetical sorting of all items, including those "important" like messaging, settings and so on... hope it helps

[Resource] Adding More Programs in Program Tab

Hey guys, I've been messing around with my HD in the registry before doing a master reset and found how to add more programs to the programs tab (in case 24 is not enough for you)
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
(once u navigate there, add new keys (starting with 24) and copy and paste the DispName, IconPath, IsReadOnly, and Path from one of the previous keys)
PS, sorry if this was already posted, I tried searching for it but couldn't find it.
Otherwise, enjoy
hey thats really cool I'm going to try that now!
Is it possible to also add more than one application tab?
Looks promising, but I must be doing something wrong. I do get the '+' icons to add new programs but when I add a program it doesn't show, not even ofter a soft reset. Will try a bit more...
edit: Noticed in the registry that it does change the key's Path and DispName entries but somehow it just won't show... Odd.
Did anybody get this working? It would be nice to have a few more spaces for programs.
No, the maximum of activ program is 24 "+" and not more aviable.
Jes, you can make more then 24 "+", but not activ with program`s.
Too bad, thanks. It still strikes me as odd, but I've had so many HTC /WM phones that by now 'odd' actually became the norm
Thanks again
sorry guys, I didn't actually try adding a program to the plus (as I didn't have the need, I just assumed it would work when I saw the '+'), but hey, who knows, maybe it's a two part process and we just have to find another registry which will allow us to assign the programs. Once again, sorry for not fully testing before posting. (and PS, from what I remember, the diamond only had 16 or 20 '+' for programs, so I'm thinking that there is indeed a way to assign more programs, though it might be not worth the trouble)

Registry Comparison Problem

Hi all,
did somebody work out good filters for Advanced Registry Tracer or similar Application to concentrate on the changes that do matter.
I got the problem, that a lot of registry entries are changed without any addiction to the install that was made, so i get a bit of lost in many changes that might not correspond to my problem to find the registry keys that really are done or needed to integrate microsofts voice command in my ROM.
Any input would be really apprecciated!
bestr regards

TP2 Freezes when typing " I " (!)

Hi,
My TP2 (standard T-Mobile US 6.1 ROM) has been pretty stable - until two weeks ago, when it started freezing (or, more accurately, getting really, really slow, eventually requiring a reboot).
I've narrowed it down to the following:
If you type " I " (space, I, space) the following characters no longer appear on the screen (although the cursor moves). If you close then window (e.g an SMS) and re-open, then the characters are there, and saved - but from then on the device is unstable, and very, very slow until soft-reset.
I wondered if it was something to do with the custom dictionary, but that has a size of zero (which surprises me...), and also I've now set the 'suggest words' count to zero.
I really want to avoid a hard reset (I've got about 30 apps to re-install...), and am hoping that someone else has seen (and fixed) this.
I did search, and found the following old (2007) thread that describes a very similar problem - but no-one posted a solution...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317634
Thanks in advance!

Very odd issue, and I would not know where in the registry to look... Solution - hard reset. Sorry to say. You said you have 30+ apps to install, but if you have the .cab, some Roms have an "Autoinstall" feature as to where you can make an "Autoinstall" folder and put all the cabs in there and they will install when you flash the new rom. If you have purchased the apps from the marketplace, there is an install all feature there as well.

I guess this gets consigned to the 'don't know why and will never be fixed' category...
I've hard reset the device, and taken the opportunity to install Jacko's 'Old School' ROM - now I need to get all those apps installed and configured....
