Okay, I've finally got WM6 on my HX2110. For any other people having the same problems I did, here is exactly what I did. What the guides I've found don't tell you is where to find it, and what to do when you get it. Basically you need to trick the iPaq into thinking it's getting the original 1.00.00.l firmware and then switch firmwares. You need to downgrade to the original H firmware before the iPaq will accept wm6. This worked perfectly for me after two days of trial and error. More detailed steps are below, but basically its: flash with 100l, reset, run 100l and swap firmware with 100h, flash, run 100l and swap with wm6, flash
Prerequisites:
Advanced_pack_for_hx2xxx_to_WM6
iPaq HX2110
USB connection to computer
1) Hard reset iPaq. Do this by holding the calendar button and itask button (curved arrow), and then put your stylus into the reset hole on the bottom of the iPaq. This will hard reset it.
2) After doing that, put it in to bootloader mode. You do this by holding the contact button (to the right of the calendar) and the itask arrow, and then clicking the reset button on the bottom. It should now be in bootloader mode. unplug the power/usb cable and plug it back in. hit the calendar button. it should now say USB.
3) run hpRUU.exe under the Wm5.0 for hx2000_1.00.00.L_ENG folder. It's found in provishki. it will flash your ipaq to 1.00.00.l . let it flash all the way.
4) hard reset the ipaq and put it in bootloader mode. see steps 1 and 2. make sure it says USB.
5) do step 3 again, but this time don't click upgrade. rename the E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf file to 100l.nbf
6) go into the SP32408_1.00.00.H_ENG folder and get the NBF file from there. copy it into the 1.00.00.L folder that we were just in. rename is to E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf. click upgrade. let the upgrade finish.
7) repeat steps 1 and 2.
8) delete the E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf file that you just copied over and rename the 100l.nbf file to E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf.
9) run hpruu.exe again. DO NOT CLICK UPGRADE.
10) get the wm6_wwe.nbf file and copy it into the directory we were just in. rename E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf to 100l.old and wm6_wwe.nbf to E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf
11) click upgrade. let it finish.
12) repeat step 1
you should now have Windows Mobile 6 on your iPaq. Good luck
I've been finding things that said I need to downgrade my firmware to 1.00.00.h after doing the 1.00.00.l version. I can't find L for the life of me. All I need is for someone to show me where I can get it. The only sites that bring anything up about that are russian.

i might find the problem, i think i started with wm2003. do i need any prerequities to upgrade from WM2003 to wm6??
and what to do when I already bricked my hx2110?
something it's not clear for me... When we run hpruu and 100% of instalation it's complete the devive restart it self. Do we have to wait there? wen do we have to do the hard reset?
I did it!
my advices are
1)start installing from windows mobile 2003
2) do not restart the pocket pc before the windows log-in screen appears!
Good luck!
Thanks!
sorry for my english
So many thanks for your tips.
I have some friends who couldn't flash by ordinary steps, I hope your guides will solve their problem on upgrading to my Thai Customized WM6.1.

My device is Original WM2003, are there any prerequities before doing the upgrade mentioned in this article?
Hi!
I'm having some problems with my Hx2110...
When flashing my working ipaq (Step 6), my computer halt.
So, i run HPRUU to reflash again, with no luck (because of "incorrect device SKU). Of course, model ID returned of my bricked IPAQ is "¨¨¨¨¨¨¨"...
But i have another chance, i try universal bootloader and USB telnet, (USB> prompt never come. (Pre-Bl screen and USB on ipaq screen are ok.)
I've tried every solution in this forum, and on internet.. (well, there's a hpruu.exe patched to ignore lang/model, but is for 6xxx series only )
What happen if i put a working 2110 on cradle, when hpruu comes with UPDATE screen, disconnect usb, and connect my non-working ipaq?...this will work?. I can try this on monday.
Thanks!

It should now be in bootloader mode. unplug the power/usb cable and plug it back in. hit the calendar button. it should now say USB.
I just have to ask this:
What we should do before Unpluging powe/usb cable and plug it back in ???
Does it means that after putting it in bootloader mode i must put it on a cradle, then unplug power/usb cable and then again plug in it and press the calendar button ??? Or else ?

I had the same problem with a German T-mobile MDA PRO from Ebay and first think i did was to try and change the language.
First attempt went wrong and the phone would not turn on, but i flashed it again and all was OK.
I think the fault is the way you flash it. I discovered you must follow some important steps.
If the upgrade is a standalone file you must extract the firmware files in a directory like C:\flash (using winrar for example) where you can do the following:
1. Find MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and later use it to flash, DO NOT USE ROMUpgradeUt.exe.
2. Edit RUU.conf and add [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 at the end.
3. Put the phone in bootloader mode (bootloader mode is where it shows usb on top and v1.0 at the bottom, so your phone is allready there)
4. connect usb cable (do not use a usb hub, plug directly on the computer).
5. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, and ----VERY IMPORTANT---- after the first screen when it displays the firmware version you are about to flash (it does not detect the version on the phone) WAIT 10 SECONDS. Then press continue, and wait for 20 minutes until it finishes.
Hope you make it...

Did you tried hard reset it?
First, don't get panic! Well. When I tried to unlock my device and make it Super CID that message appeared in my screen too.I tried anything I was told in this fantastic forum and nothing worked. Finally I was told to reinstalled windows on my PC and...it worked!! I think it's a problem of drivers. If you are desperated try it.
Good luck and be the force with you...
may the force be with you!
but like alberbrando said, don't panic. panic would only make things worse. try re-installing your windows. Hopefully, that should resolve your problem.

So do the other thing they told you and reset windows.
Which is worse? a few hours boredom of backups and reinstalls, or spending what. . . 1300. . £2600 on new PDA's for you and your friends?
I know which one I'D pick.
Try
Try with this upgrade Tools
-put nk.nbf file on this folder
-put your device to bootloader mode
-deactive active sync on your computer
-connect to USB
-Run upgrade tools
cheers

Right, don't panic, not being able to flash isn't such a big deal.
First, get an official update package for your QTek, and for your friends an I-Mate update package.
Next, hold the power button and the light-button (next to the volume slider), and stick the stylus in the little reset hole in the back. Hold the keys for a little longer, untill you vaguely see "Serial" or "USB" on the bottom part of the screen (put a little light on the screen, as the backlight will not be lit).
At this point make sure it's connected to your PC through the USB cable.
Right-click the MS ActiveSync icon (on your PC) and choose connection settings, make sure "Allow USB Connections" is unticked.
Next run the update utility, and everything should be fine again
If this doesn't help, ask again and state clearly that you've tried this already.

b4 attempting to flash
b4 attempting to flash,
chk if the 3 steps with mtty work,
if u don't get any error,
plz get ur battrey charged fully from a friend.
then attempt a flash by downloading a different rom from the one u r presently using
disable ur pc firewall
also disable ur anti virus [dont know if this is really required...but i read it in quite a few forums & it worked for me...]
flash only the rom
no extended rom or radio
use the MaUpgradeUt_noID
hopefully this should sort out ur problem....
i know coz i had the same problem....
frz
Another suggestion....
before making any other test, if it's possible, try on another PC, using a fresh rom (not the same used...) .... can be a PC problem, so test the procedure on another host ....
... sorry, again...
have you checked the bootloader version on the devices ? ... verify it before any other tentative ....
I did a rom upgrade on an hx2110 - installed successfully, but now the only thing I can get the pda to do is go into Pre bootloader mode (i.e. Pre-BL 1.00.02 blue screen). SO I tried the universal bootloader method - makes it all the way to the flashing portion but then does NOTHING - the terminal simply sits there saying "ready" and does not upload anything - the program sees the correct communication port (ie. usb01 or whatever). HOW do I force an upload???
Thanks!
Rusty
On another note - I had purchased a working 2110 with a good mobo to replace this one if the flash is not repairable - is that a difficult procedure? Unfortunately, the 2110 I purchased was not working, but this may still be in the books at a later time, so some info would help.
Thanks!

Rusty,
You are so lucky that I experienced this problem and solved it on my own. You did not specify what ROM you were loading, but here is the fix:
First you need to get another pocketpc, hx2000 series like yours that is working.
Put that device into white screen bootloader or pre-BL mode (depending on which device you got to borrow)
Ensure that the battery on that device is 100% charged.
Run the original ROM upgrade for the ROM you wish to install (use PDAViet if it's WM6 and use the HP SP32408 to Run it)
Hit all the Ok screens until it brings you to the one that has the "UPDATE" button.
Remove the working Ipaq from the cradle and place it's 100% battery in you own.
Put your Ipaq into pre-BL mode and put it on the cradle. Press the calendar button to activate the usb drivers.
Once it says "USB", Hit the "UPDATE" button and it will load the proper ROM to your IPaq.
When It is done, perform a hard reset by formatting the PS on the device.
Voila!! Your Ipaq is Un-Bricked!! Put in your original battery and charge it up!
Enjoy!!

hi Rustmonkey,
i have the similar things - i made my hx2110 brick when i flashed it with a different language ROM, it went 100% when i flashed the ROM but didn't work at all after that.
the problem is i can get it in the bootloader mode after trying many ways, at the same time the pc can't find any USB device at all.
how to make it work again?
thanks.

You're going to need another hx2000 series to make sure the battery is fully charged - put the battery in and then use the bootloader keystrokes immediately (contacts+itask+reset) - you made need to tap reset a few times while holding the other two to get it to work. After it is in bootloader mode, push the calander button while it is connected to the cradle/usb to get the pc to recognize it

really amazing !!!!!!
I just saved my hx2110 as per your step by step instruction now.
Thank you very much.
ok, well, I thought they were fixed... now one of them freezes at the bootup screen, even when I do a clean reset... I've tried reflashing multiple times to no avail... any ideas whats going on?
ok, got everything working - reflashed the non-working one back to an original 2003 rom - which made if freeze at boot - then upgraded it via pre-bl to 1.00.00.L - from here, it wouldn't do anything after filling the bar at the boot screen, but it didn't CRASH (as in lights out) - so I ran the pre-bl again and ran the flash program for 1.00.00.L again WITHOUT swapping between the 2495 and the 2110 - just put the 2110 in pre-bl and away we went - flashed, formatted, and booted - then proceed to upgrade to WM6 via 1.00.00.H --> 1.02.00.H --> WM6 - works GREAT!!!
Thanks for the help everyone!
Dear All,
I`ve got the same problem but i don`t have a second ipaq.. is there anyway to repair it with out the second device???
Thank you very much
Abs
Hello,
I have run into some problems with a bricked hx2110.
I was flashing the IPAQ to a new ROM WM5 (Battery was full and I read all the instructions 10 times prior to flashing). While flashing, the progress bar went to 100% then faded out immediately and it wouldn't reset (clean reset). I put the battery in my friends hx3000 series and the battery I used was completely dead. It did flash to 100% though, but not matter how many times I try 1 + 3 + reset, it doesn't reboot. If I can figure out how to get it to boot, that would be great, but I can't get anything to come up with any key combinations.
To this point all I can do is get into Pre-BL mode 1.00.04. I have tried the below scenarios on two machines, both running windows XP SP2 (USB 2.0) with the firewall and virus software disabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382&page=4
1) I have tried the above links directions and used the the Universal Bootloader (Bootloader.exe). It gets to the point where it says "The PDA should be updating now" or something similar but nothing happens. I don't get any errors regarding communications (it sees the device when I hold the "Calendar" button until it says USB; windows then recognizes the device as "HP USB ..." so I know it's communicating).
2) I tried to use the Bootloader_GUI.exe beta so that I can watch the progress indicator but it just sits at 0%. There are no error messages so it is communicating but for some reason, the device won't let it flash (and the flash utility thinks it's doing something).
3) I tried the original ROM flash from HP (SP29856.EXE) and it recognizes the device, but because the current ROM on the PDA is hosed, when it does it's "verifying" process, it comes up with "?" marks as the model number and when it goes to flash it starts at .1% then says "FINISHED" immediately. The ROM utility thinks it flashed it correctly but it didn't flash anything. I'm guessing that the verification of the PDA failed and forced the utility to not flash.
Does anyone have ANY ideas of what to try? I wish I had another HX2000 series PDA and try the "swap" thing prior to hitting the update button but I don't. All I have to work off of it my sad bricked PDA and a full battery (friend keeps charging it). His PDA is an HX3000 series.
Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks!
Are you using a the HP flash program that is specified for your device?
2nd - you might be able to use your buddies device in a swap as well - not sure but its worth a shot - use HPs upgrade program, let it verify, then swap your device onto the same cable - overwrite the firmware in the update program for HIS device with firmware compatible with yours and then hit update - let us know if this works...
I am using the "official" HP flash program specific for the HX2110 (from their website - SP29856), bootloader.exe, and bootloader_gui.exe
I wanted to try my friends, but he won't let me touch his because I bricked mine lol (I swore nothing would happen to his but he still won't let me try it).
Anyway, I just copied over the ROM image (from HP) and stripped out the header (now showing 64 bytes before the ECEC). The ROM is for WM2003. I copied the ROM in binary using psdwrite.exe to an 256 MB SD card. As soon as I can get the battery back, I'm going to try to flash it from the SD card. If this fails, I am going to try to play around with MTTY / USB and manually call the ROM flash and see what happens.
Having another HX2000 series would make this easy (maybe a little TO easy )!
Bootloader never worked for me - but if you can get it to manually call the flash, more power to you good luck!
Well it was worth a shot. After spending the better part of the day with the PDA, I have made no more progress (can't get Pre-Bl to update). The only option I have now is to find someone with another hx2000 series that is willing to resurrect it from the dead for me (PM me if you can help - I will pay two way fare). Until that happens, it's going in the "broken" drawer with all my old comp stuff .
Thanks to all the tips and tricks that is posted on these forums and brighthand! There is a wealth of information on this topic and without them, I would have gotten nowhere in trying to repair the device (granted, I wouldn't have been intrigued to upgrade the ROM in the first place and would still have a working PDA, but that's besides the point ).

HKKSL, YOUR ADVISE IS REALLY HELP,THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Upgrading HX2110 to WM6
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I've finally got WM6 on my HX2110.
Good luck

I have succeed in upgrading my hx2110 to wm6.1 as per the above instruction.
I am wondering why there's extra files and folders in that package that we never used it?
Does anybody know if there is a way to boot N560 using SD card? I think I killed my FS with some "rom killer" and all I get now is FS boot screen, no other activities.
Any way to start it from SD card and flash it from there?
Perhaps any other way to bring it back to life?
i have the same problem
is there anybody for help???
SOS please

You cannot burn the ROM from an SD card.
If the device has had the anti-theft password set at some stage then you cannot reburn the ROM! This might be the problem?
A hard reset on the N560 followed by running the Loox burn program on a PC with ActiveSync connection to the N560 cradle is the only answer i.e. a normal ROM burn.

Theft protection is not a problem here. It was wrong ROM and now it is stuck on boot screen, active sync does not see it at all, maybe there is a trick to somehow anable burn, flash, service mode on it? So far nothing helps....

Thanks ever so much! You are real HELP!!!!
You should close process "wcescomm.exe" on PC in task manager. Then hold button record, power and puch reset after that you will come in boot loader. Run the program mtty.1.42 and select usb connect. If You will see the any error just start again mtty. Put command l c:\os_213u.nbf (You should put correct flash file in c:\ or use correct path to os_213u.nbf, l - like L but small). When it will done You should start PocketLOOX5xxFlashTool.exe and flash you PDA.

You can if you use an translator like www.windowslivetranslator.com or translate.google.com
then it is pretty easy.
I've resolved...
Fully functional WM6.0 newplowe in English...
now I'm searching for editing it in Italian/French but I need to edit the rom part of the XIP (just that).
For doing that, I need to open decrypt the file .nbh file (don't really know howto, and newplow doesn't answer about that... ).
Hi everybody, I need your help. I spent 2 hours to read several posts about N560 brick recover, and I still can't figure how to do it.
I flashed the N560 with the WM 6.1 and then I tried to flash the backup Rom Image ... which failed. Now is stucked in the climbing image ... and is not reacting to nothing. I didn't try the mitty sol because I don't have a clear ideea about using it, I am still a newbie ...
Please, I am begging for help if you can , thanks

Try this?
Take the N560 off the cradle. Remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. Reinsert battery and back cover. Do not worry if the screen shows the dolphins again. Do a full hard reset to get back to factory setting i.e Simultaneously press and hold the Suspend/Resume button (1) and the Calendar application button (2). Briefly press the stylus tip into the soft reset opening (3). Continue to hold down the Suspend/Resume button and the Calendar application button for a few seconds. The reset can take a few minutes. At the end an acoustic signal sounds. Please follow the further instructions on the display.
A hard reset should put the device back to the existing (last burned ROM) and you can try the burn again.
You probably do not know why the burn originally failed. The most common reason is some interrupt of the processor (internet access, switch of all internet access) but more likely something is polling the USB port, which might be shared in the PC. My external USB TV tuner constantly polls the USB port and interrupts any transfers on other ports! I suggest that you disconnect all other USB devices and make sure that your N560 cradle is connected to a USB port directly on the motherboard of the PC (not a USB hub or expansion card with multiple USB ports).
Hope this helps.

I think you have received a reply from Newplow on his guestbook....
Hi
I tried to upgrade to 128mb but after restart I see only climbing. I tried everything here but on dolphins afterr line is blue it is finished. that I am unpluging device. starting looxflastool for 560 and first is trying to connect by active sync and that when no connection made I see dolphins on left screen of flash tool window. than I am pluging again and after couple secs I see that: Error"The language in this Flash Image update (ENGLISH) differs from that on your device. I tried to change rom on every language but not working as well. PLEASE HELP!!
if that helps than i will add than on top when delfins i see on 560 is two lines. first is typed 2.14.G4 on second directly below is 2.15.
and when mtty 1.42 finishing flashing i see following:
Image Download Finish
OEMFlashWrite(A0000000h,8C200000h,0224002Ah)
Download Fails !!!
OEMFlashWrite error(12)
Error : DownloadImage return error (code = 0xFFFFFFFF)
I've done already procedure You've mentioned here with taking of the battery for at least 30 secs with hard reset afterwards but it is still climibing screen. Can U manage this as well???
THX
The most common error with the procedure is NOT making a proper or true hard reset, or back to factory settings reset. If you do it wrong, you will only achieve a soft reset, the same as you get if you just put the stylus in the reset hole in the base of the N560.
The correct procedure is to hold Power/Resume/Suspend button (on/off button) and the Calendar button simultaneously. Keep holding them and with the other hand press in the reset hole with the stylus. The screen should blank out. KEEP holding the other two buttons all this time, and release the stylus. KEEP holding those two buttons until the screen display returns, only then release them.
This should allow another burn.
I hope this is the problem. It has happened to me and others, so I think I am right. But if this fails, you may need another approach.
