Some thing to clear about BlueAngel - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I have planned to buy O2 XDA IIs from my frnd (2nd hand for sure)
Does it comes under the name, blueangel???
also please tell me pros and cons about this dmobile device
I already own O2 xda exec, typhoon and voyager
what about this one???
cud U, experienced users please guide me....am i gonna upgrade its rom to WM6 or not??

It's a great device, you won't make a mistake It has Intel PXA263 400mhz processor (This is the only thing i don't like in blueangel. It is not so fast. If you plan to play 3d games it is not very good for this. But you can easily overclock it with pocket master to 530mhz. With this frequency it handles everything without Snow Rally - there's a little lag and you can't play Playstation 1 games even if you overclock it to 590. I got 21-23fps in Tony Hawk Pro Skater with @530mhz and Frameskip - 2), 128 ram (This is great! With so much ram you don't need real close button. But there are no applications that wants more than 32 ram, so this is not a big advantage), Big screen and the best design for games(The screen is perfect. It wouldn't be bad if there was VGA screen but QVGA is not so bad either. In web browsing the qvga resolution is a big dissadvantage. You have to scrool a lot. But now there are browsers now that supports Zoom function. With it the browsing is good even on qvga device. When Opera 9.5 comes out it will rock And the design is great for games. It's like joystick when you handle it in landscape position and there are many buttons), 64mb Flash Storage(It's not much but you don't need more. There are SD Cards for that), SD/MMC expansion slot( The bad thing here is that it doesn't support SDHC, there are no drivers for that and there won't be in future ), CIF camera (It is really badd. The image quality is similar. If you try to record video it lags. I don't know why :/ It does it wven in the lowest quality), WiFi( No problems here), Bluetooth (No problems here either), IrDA( It can't be used as a remote controller because the irda range is around 3 meters)
And finally the PocketPC comes with WM2003. You can install WM6.1 but I recommend you to wait for explode's WM6.1. His roms are the best With the new windows the pocket becmoes really fast and stable. That's all, it's a great device

Nice choice. I recently picked up a hermes and while it is very nice, there are some things I miss from the Angel.

I don't quite understand this question. If you are asking if it was sold under the name of Blue Angel, no. Blue Angel is the HTC internal name for the phone. It was never sold by HTC directly, but to the various cell carriers who rebadged it with their own plastics and ROM/applications.

Pros:
Good CPU speed (the keiser runs at the same speed, 400 mhz)
The CPU has been around for a while, so 3rd party apps that are designed for the CPU work well.
Good physical size on the screen
Lots of storage and program memory when the extended ROM is resized/removed.
Cons:
Since it is an older platform, any MW version after 2003 is a hack. The drivers are generally ported from other phones and there are various bugs that will probably never be fixed due to a lack of hardware drivers. Everything does work, there are just various quirks.
Radio range (bluetooth, wifi, etc) are not the best. Heck, they often tend to be down right crappy.
Unless someone is able to write and release a SDHC driver for the card slot, it will never support SDHC cards, which will limit the phone to 4 gig cards. 2 gig is the official spec for SD, but there are a few 4 gig non-SDHC cards out there.

I would. MW6 is a huge improvement over 2003 and 5. The latest ROM builds out there work very well, if not 99% perfectly, and are fast.
In my opinion, Hemli releasing wm6 for the angel breathed new life into the device.
Really, I wish HTC would revive the device, make an updated version of it. The form factor, while is a bit big for a phone, is great for usability as a PDA.

I second that! Just ditched my Hermes for my old trusty Blue Angel, which blows the pants off it! I forgot how much I loved the 3.5 inch screen!

Rookie as well with the Blue Angel
I am getting started with the Blue angel as well (O2 Xda IIs)
I like it a lot this will probably become my best buddy during my travels
I got a couple of complementary questions about it.
I intend to use it for business purposes, mainly Internet through
Wifi and GPRS, pdf and offices documents.
I saw on this forum that you advise to change from WM 2003SE to Windows Mobile 6 (the last published by Microsoft)
-My question is: This PDA is already a bit old now, is it going to work smoothly wit the very last OS, which is designed for more recent PDAs (i.e which should be more efficient).
I mainly want to use it for Internet, wich browser do you recommend ?
Internet explorer? Opera Mobile? Opera Mini? other browser?
By the way what is the difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini

you should go with opera mobile, as it is better suited for pda's. opera mini is suited for java based mobile phones.

man i wish they would do that, or release a device with the same glorious screen but with contemporary features, all in all the blu angel is still a killer device 4 years on.

Absolutely right. I had been using the subj for 4 years in nearly extremal conditions, uprading and downgrading firmware dozen times. But, unfortunately it died as hero. Really great gadget, legend of HTC platform challenging ages.

Hi
Well with WM 6.1 it does everything I need and thats for sure I have my pick of devices and always come back to this one - and the 11i which is just about as good
I cant think of a time I have been upset with what it does or doesn't do. I intend keep one for as long as it will run....

hp ipaq 6315

Does anybody have an idea if this is a xda
http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/...e_type=product_detail&script_name=product.cgi
HP/XDA
Its an XDA like device but from HP.
iPAQ and XDA are model names from their respective manufacturers.
Hope this helps
I think that h6300 is much much better than XDA II and of course there is no comparison between XDA and the h6300, it has WiFi, BT Manager from Widcomm, Keyboard, 3600mAh optional battery and it is much mych cheaper that XDA II which all not available in XDA II...
Best regards,,,
yes. I love this pda phone. HP is the best pocket pc ever. I will buy this pda phone. Thanks for your mention. HP ALWAYS PROVIDE GREAT SUPPORT. THE BEST COMPANY THAT WE TRUST.
You must be joking, hp renowned for its lack of support, no wm2003se for it's existing ipaq range ( paq 5550) poor quality hardware etc.
I personally wouldnt buy hp kit ever, it's great kit while it's working, but wait till something goes wrong!!!!
My company supplies IT hardware, we have no end of problems with hp, you should see their laptop warrantey requirements.

Battery, bluetooth(stack) and Wifi there good, BUT memory, speed wise and looks I like MDA2/XDA2 (I just dont like antenna specially holding it on landscape mode).. I guess its using OMAP (TI) 200MHZ I am not sure how to compare but memory(RAM/ROM) 64Megs is kinda small. But well wait how this two compare its other side by side. Keyboard its kind of ugly and bulky to carry with you all the time. If I want keyboard I'll wait for MDA III.. Just my opinion.
If you do buy the HP, you'll be really suprised at how slow it is,
That processor just isnt fast enough for most apps nowdays, and if you turn on wifi, it just turns into a slug!,
Stick with you XDA2's at the moment, i dont think there is an upcomming better device at the moment
Actually ....
.... although not the blazing speed of a 400Mhz XScale, the 200 Mhz TI actually held it's own, and never felt discomfortingly slow, and actually quite good in some areas (in my pre-prod sample).
My main reasons for switching from my XDA II to the 6300 will be size and autonomy ... the 200 Mhz CPU made that the battery simply lasted and lasted and lasted .... HP, imho, made a sensible trade-off between speed and autonomy.
Thanks. I will try to check on more information before I decide to it it or not. Thanks you guys!
Wiz,
What was the refresh speed like once you had wifi running?, this is where it will tax the processor and my biggest annoyance
I find the speed of my XDA2 adequate rather than blazing, we probably have different needs on device speed, but i would have rather seen 256meg inbuilt memory and the new 624mhz processor in the ipaq 6315
I'm not too worried about battery life as i am happy to carry a spare battery in my pocket as i do with my XDA2, i would much rather have speed and lots of memory than a long battery life
I suppose once it gets released and users start posting about the HP then we will see if most people are happy with it!
HP quality and support
I had 5 different iPAQs during last several years. From 3650 to 5550...
What I can say... In my case support was for 10 out of 10, but quality was 1 out of 10. HP EXCHANGED 4 times my 5550!!!!! I think so it is good example of service/quality...
About HP6315 - as long as we will be able to use BT stack from HP6315 on our I-Mate - I do not think there will be better handheld PPC Phone Edition on the market. For sure I am not mentioning for AWAITING for Windows Mobile Second Edition…
That was my brick in this discussion
The HP simply delivers what the masses want most: Cheapness, some simple extra functionality, and battery life. General users don't much care about speed, as they aren't going to add much to it nor ask much of it. Most PPC-PE users never load anything on it more than what is included--statistical fact.
We here are an anomaly--power users who demand the most of their devices. Most of us wouldn't settle for the limitations of the HP, but we need to realize that most of the general public considers the XDA II very limited. Simply because they'd never use its great capabilities, but would be annoyed at the shorter battery life and lack of things like voice dialing from BT headsets.

Check the CPU of HP. It's Texas Instrument and not Intel based. It is not that I am loyal to Intel but I used several HP and Compaq Pocket PCs before that were cheaper because the CPU is not Intel. (Hitachi and Samsung CPU)
The problem with non Intel Pocket PCs' was compatibility with most softwares. Most of the softwares for PPCs' were optimized for Intel based.
So I preferred the XDAII because of the Intel processor and it is "Sexier" than the HP design and I don't like Stub Antennaes.

New HTC Diamond, will this be nice into trinity !

Hi all,
HTC Touch Diamond is out and u can see in these links the beatiful new touchflow 3D that will be very welcome on our trinity
TouchFlow 3D
Video
"The most important factor of this new device is HTC's new Touch Flo 3D interface. The new interface aims to compete against Apple's iPhone touch interface. From a video demonstration by MoDaCo it appears that the technology suffers from some common drawbacks to Windows Mobile's own interface and system. Occasionally freezing and not always responding to screen taps correctly. Checkout the video below to see what I am referring to. HTC has integrated Opera's mobile browser into the device and it appears to offer an improved interface for web browsing on Windows Mobile devices. A YouTube specific application features on the device almost like the iPhone equivalent."
(neowin.net)
This may be discussed on xda, sorry if dble post.
WOOOOW, ITS AMAZING..waiting for it to come to egypt )
the bad thing about HTC Diamond that its VGA not QVGA
BUT i hope that we can put the 3d home screen on P3600
Yes the Diamond looks like a nice phone, it's even smaller than a HTC Touch. BUT, it is only triband so if you live or travel to north america it won't get reception in some country areas. Even though it has 4gb of built-in memory it would have been nice if there was a microSD slot since they will soon be up to 16 and 32gb.
Otherwise I'd be the first in line for this tiny brother of the Trinity. Maybe the next model called the Raphael which is a Diamond w/keyboard will be quad band.

also elia said me that manilla is too slow unlucky....
Finally HTC seem to have realized the importance of RAM amount to keep WM running smooth: 192 MB DDR SDRAM.
This interface will not come to our trinity's

our video card is not badly, but we haven't got 3d driver!
many applications 3d that they turn on our device are simulated by some dll librery.

[Q]FPSEce (Play Station One) for WVGA on WM 6.5.3

Hello everybody!!!
I think many HD users looked for good games for their devices. There are some really nice applications like Resco Bubbles, Experiment 13 etc. Also We can run Nintendo, Sega and other old games on HTC HD(with sortware multitouch support).
However, for my device I want at least psx games...(I am final fantasy and takken fan) I found emulators such as PocketISO and FPSEce, which allowed you run games from PS1. BUT I cant install it properly(I read many articles about it before start a new thread, but still cant find solution). Furthermore, I read, that FPSEce is not support WVGA(((
On Youtube I found many videos about FPSEce 0.10 working on Samsung Omnia and running psx games with full speed. I don't think that HTC HD is less powefull in turms of CPU and RAM than Omnia(maybe I am wrong).
So, can anybody explain me how to install it and (if possible) how to make it multitouch (like Morphgear with some skins and fix)?
I am using WM 6.5.3 by T2M(28004)
Thx in advance.
I try to run fpsece many times, but always whit poor result. The site appear old and no update. However, This progr starting directly from the executable file and work in the hd wvga, but can't start games for me
the point is simple really, the resolution aint supported. omnia has a far less screen res, thus delivering better application experience/smoothness. moreover, it seems fpsece has been discontinued or at least not updated in the last, well, year, so i fear your request is d00med from the start.

Not really. Project is not dead!!! Check video on YouTube, it is amazing!!! Driver 2 with "touch" control and full speed. G-sensor is working, nice on-screen buttons, sylus mode etc. Now it is even better than real PS1!!!
By the way, I had chat with moderator from FPSE forum, and he said, that new version will probably released before Xmas! I hope it will fully compatible with our device.

I've been waiting for FPSCE all year now, and every week we've been told "It's a few weeks away". I've purposely put it out of my mind for weeks now as I can't be bothered with the continual delays (although it does seem a lot of progress has been made recently and it looks a fantastic app).
I had 0.96 running on my HD no problems, except the FPS (frames per second) was about 17 for even simple games like Ridge Racer = unplayable. However vers 1.0 promises to work a lot quicker.
There is also a thread on their forum about the Touch HD, and I think it will work and be playable if/when released. They are also working on multitouch-faking controllers, otherwise bluetooth controlllers work well.
So I'm a little ambivalent over the project, mainly because I got sick of waiting for it, but I'm ready to eat my hat if/when it is released (probably in 2011 )

Well, I hope you are wrong about release date...
About FPS: I have tried Final Fantasy 8 and during first video it worked with 25-35 frames per second. However, I can't start the game - I can see FF boot screen, but I can't move to the main menu. I pressed all buttons("x", "start" etc.) with no result, only "select" buttons works fine. What I did wrong? I have tried other games with the same result.

Exactly why I wanted to see the videos myself... You can't compare the TG01 with the HD! The HD doesn't even have half the Toshiba's speed!
(Even when running a SnapDragon processor at the same frequency as the HD's processor, the former is faster than the latter...)

I know that TG01 in terms of speed and performance much better than our device.
I just posted this links as an example of what new version can do....
About speed:
This is DELL X50v
On this device FPSEce runs many games with 30-40 frames per second.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBSgNJlq38Q&feature=related
I don't think that X50v(processor 624 MHz Intel PXA 270, 64 RAM, VGA) is more powerfull than HD(processor 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A, 288 MB RAM, WVGA)
BTW, on this video it seems to be an old version of FPSEce, however authors said that new version will run games much faster and smoother.....

hi guys i think fpsece looks really good im tired of the low quality mobile games they keep bringing out and this looks like it will be decent. just need to find out how to get all my favourite ps1 games on my storage card. i read on the oficial forum that the developer is thinking about charging £5 for the emulator when its available on wvga devices. well im sure he/ shes done alot of work and i for one think thats fair. i think it will be free if you dont want to save your game or something like that. just cant wait.

Win seven rom for s620

Dear All,
Can we expect that in future we will have the ROM of win7 for Excalibure?
Thanks
Little something to read regards HD2

As you will see windows mobile 7 hasn't even been developed...
And considering the new phones will only be supported since processors and amount of RAM has changed substantially since the Excalibur, we will probably never see it running on our old beloved devices...

I hear you!, even though the Dash is still an awesome device, it will be more like a touch pro 2 , or a different new device that will have the 7.0, shoot M$ just released 6.5 not even 4 or 5 months ago, I'm sure it will be a while and, we'll have a beta version of the 7 way before it will be released.

never say never. we've seen how programmers and cooks have taken windows xp and customized it into usable os's for low end pc's. tiny xp being just one example of this.
so i have full confidence that our cooks here can create a recipe that will be usable on our excaliburs. good luck guys.
I hate to be a downer, but with under 100 MB of ram (68 MB I believe, most of which is used already by the OS and other functions, leaving the user with around 20 MB) and a very small ROM size (newer OS = more space taken) AND a processor clocking in at no more than 250 Mhz OVERCLOCKED, it doesn't seem possible for a Windows 7 ROM to run on our beloved phones.
Notice how with every new OS, the space requirements go up and up (this applies to all devices) whereas XP used somewhere around 6GB I believe and 7 now uses up to 17GB ... If Win7 Mobile proves to be a GREAT (and I mean phenomenal) OS, then there is the chance, but I wouldn't get hopes up too high [especially since our Excaliburs are becoming yesterday's model and chefs are scarce in these parts].
you do relise the newq os takes less space then old xp right? the old xp is so bloated now with updates that if they can slim it down they can slim down win 7 not to mention there is a starter version of 7 made for netbooks, however even the full version runs well on my small netbook, and it has only 1 gig total ram. infact im typing this on my win7 home premium netbook right now.
after a bit of googling i realized you're probably right. the specs required for the new windows mobile 7 OS as reported, will be too much for the excalibur to handle. i still think there are people that could size it down but it would be a job for sure. you'd still need to have those core windows system files.... but as with other OS' they always include bloatware that can be removed to improve functionality. guess we'll have to wait and see...
on the plus side, there is a work in progress attempting to port the new android OS over to the excalibur. it is based on a linux kernal. from what i've read it's bootable but they still have some work to do on it. more on that can be read about here...

this will probably be my future OS for this phone when they get it to a workable beta stage. hopefully soon

As you will see windows mobile 7 hasn't even been developed...
And considering the new phones will only be supported since processors and amount of RAM has changed substantially since the Excalibur, we will probably never see it running on our old beloved devices...

How do u think about this video? this device is like HTC Elf which has only 64MB of RAM and 200 MHz of CPU.
Anyways, i hope Windows Mobile 7 can be similar to Windows 7 that can run faster event 1GB of RAM if we compare with Vista.
i think as a company, microsofts target market is the user with a newer smartphone/ppc. i wouldnt be surprised if they had some deal with the cell phone makers that requires you to have to buy a new cell phone to be able to use the newer OS. however, i still hold out hope that the hackers will break down the Mobile OS itself and get it running like a pro.
vid still looks nice though. the date on the upload was 2008 so im sure there has been much work on it since then. beta testing anyone?

I agree that M$ will require the user to buy new phone with new OS but here, xda site, is ROM testing place before the final product is out on the market.

I think that a 201MHz CPU /64MB RAM device is more than capable of running WAD Since they can run M2D fine
Info:
Device: HTC Touch (elf)
Skin name: Windows Mobile 7 i3
(i3 = 3 interface)
Skin version: QVGA
Used: WAD2 and WA3

Haha Stylez, I was just about to comment on that video.
Regarding the user who mentioned that Win7 is smaller than XP, I would like you to double-check that, or maybe check it for the first time, becuase I am more than 99% sure that due to the immense amount of Hardware Acceleration and other optimizational code in the Win7 core, the size of it is larger than XP. You can see this also by the fact that Win7 asks if you want to make a partition for the OS alone (which turns out to be 16-17GB) while XP (which I have installed on my own HDD) takes up no more than 18GB on my 75GB HDD and that is with all my usual apps installed (3Ds Max, Visual Studio (Full), Adobe suite ALTERNATIVES, Firewall/AV, plus all the other random freeware I tend to install for the heck of it) [I estimated around 6-7 because of the apps installed]...Also realize that the hacked XP (coined MiniXP) fits on a CD, so OBVIOUSLY there was enough to take out that it could shrink down immensely and still keep its functions... So i am pretty sure than XP doesn't take too much space...
SEMI-EDIT:: I left this window open and forgot to post, so i googled the size of an XP installation...refer to http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/size-of-xp-install/154115.html where people claim to install XP with only 1.5GB of HDD....i think that settles that...

lol spot on all you need to do is notice XP Pro comes on CD & Windows 7 on DVD.. There is a reason for that
Also my XP Pro SP3 Slipstream comes in @ 1.3GB after i remove the page file "solidstate disk" so 3.3GB before
Windows 7 comes in from 5.5GB+
I don't think that it will ever get to run on the dash, just because all of the animation, interfaces, plugin's, and all the ram that's gonna be needed for newer OS's.
I'm only speaking my opinion, but aren't almost all new Win Mo devices coming out with touch screens. I think if there was any older device that would get a version of WM 7 will be the Htc Tilt/Kaiser that has 112mb storage and 101mb ram, or the Htc Fuze/Raphael that has even more, around 294mb storage and 187mb ram.
I think that it would be awesome if someone would have that much skills to make it happen but, like TouchFLO on dash never happened, Android has been on the works since october 2008 and still hasn't happened.
But anyways who knows!
I just found this vid about WinMo7 .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAVg2z-SCw4&feature=related
found a very recent report on it, read up! http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=12237
Also read this thread, I think Fuze has more of a chance on getting this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618567

All speculation we have very well informed user that is stating it's based on Ce Os 7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620477
Think the Kaiser will be left behind due to the lack of storage space and also think accelerometer gyrator going to come into play alot more with WM7 from what been reading.
But like i say all speculation, one thing i can say is the Excalibur won't as it's just too slow too small "not regards size" and it's turned out that HTC now are really a PPC adventure even though they have SP's still in the market place....
Oh i love speculation but is till have an extra kidney if need to place bets

Eazy roloracer,
Yeah it's an advert future concept cloud network. But i can see the likely hood of porting since it's still very well specked and people are stating the snapdragon doesn't add an amazing amount of difference in feel from the Qualcomm MSM750xx, but we will all have to wait and see.
Good ol speculation

Keep more than your fingers crossed "it's not going to happen if you look @ all the videos floating around it's highly gui intensive" unless they bring out a version for SP that can work on very old equipment to which considering all SP's are now about 500MHz and have far more storage & RAM it's highly unlikely...

Windows 7 on TouchPro2

Seems like a dumb question, but does anyone know where I can get it for the TouchPro2?
Thanks for any input
Uhm, ahem....yes.
Do you mean Windows Phone 7 perhaps? If that is the case then no, you cannot and likley never will (save for some truely herculean effort by some xda dev) be able to get that running on your TP2.
If you meant regular Windows 7, you might want to pick up a laptop...
Well, I had Windows Mobile 6.5 atm, and I was just wanting to upgrade to 7. Is this possible?

"7" isn't going to be released for months yet, and even when it is, there won't be an official version for the TP2, the only way you'll be able to get it is if some xda developers manage to stuff it into this hardware, which is well below the minimum specs MS has said 7 will require to run.
Currently of course no because WP7 is not out for any phone yet.
But as I said even in the future this is unlikely as WP7 has strict hardware requirements (specifically the 1ghz snapdragon cpu and capacitive multi-touch screen) that the TP2 does not meet. It is perhaps conceivable that someone here will manage a hacked port with minimal functionality at some point, but I doubt if it would ever be complete or usable.
If you had an HD2 on the other hand, I'd say there's a good chance of being able to upgrade at some point.
Oh, maybe putting windows 7 in there was the wrong word. Is there anyway to update to the latest version of windows? Cause I installed something, and it said I needed the later version of it. Any ideas?
If you want latest 6x windows find your fav ROM n flash it. 6.5 is at 21901 and 6.5.5 is at 23563. I dont think a higher number is a later build between the two. 21xxx ROM's in my opinion r more stable. Its all in taste
What did you install? You probably just need the latest version of the .NET Compact Framework, which you can grab here.
I would like to know where to get Windows 7 OS on my Touch Pro 2. I need it because it will support my graphics card better.

C'mon rory, let's not be rediculous now...you know the only way to get more out of your video card on the TP2 is to use liquid cooling

Also looking for Touch Pro 2 drivers for my 5.25 floppy drive.
Rory, why don't you design a HTC HD4 that has WP7 or higher, HTC TouchFlo 3.5 or higher, CDMA-GSM- WiMax, 100GB LAN, 1GB RAM, 1GB ROM, 32 GB Storage, support for up to 10TB Micro SDXC Card, full 1080P video, Holographic Display, at least a 2 GHZ Quad core CPU, USB 3.0 or higher, HDMI, Bluetooth 2.0 or higher, 2 GB video card, full sliding and tilting keyboard, and a 10,000 MAH battery. And while you are at it, have it cooled with Liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Helium. Then maby this might satisfy your needs. And yes I know this is a wise crack, but all in fun though.

That doesn't supply a solution for the need of liquid cooling. Stir iced tea with it instead.

Well Norman, If you have learned anything from this I hope that it's do your research on your own before coming out and asking something that... well, as you can see is a little goofy to ask. Even searching windows 7 on tp2 in google you would have seen its not possible right now.
