Hey there,
is anyone else experiencing problems trying to connect to the internet using the GPRS Line in the O2 Network?
It was working all finde and then, from one day to the other, my phone kept losing GPRS, the "G" disappeared and it was unable to establish an internet connection. I can only get the "G" again by going to the Phone settings and manually select the O2 Network again. Then it works for about 5 minutes and i lose the signal again. So, to all german members with O2, anyone else having these problems?
Edit: Sorry for wrong board, realised it to late, but since i have Meshles 3.01 Touch installed, i guess its also right here in the WM6 Forum

My BA running WM2003 used to work fine on US T-Mobile data service. I could browse the web, email, etc...
A couple of months back, I could not connect to a website through Pocket IE. I kinda pushed it aside, figuring it was a temporary problem. I checked again the other day, and still no web access...
This entire time I have been able to retrieve my email fine, and Pocket IE works when connected through a Wi-Fi connection.
Has anyone had this problem w/ the BA before? w/ T-Mobile USA? What did you do to fix it?
Thanks!
Same problem
Hi,
i got the same problem only im trying to use the Dutch T-mobile GPRS service...
I got this problem since upgrading from wm2003 to wm5.
Unfortunatly I cannot attribute mine to a software upgrade. It just stopped working - I have hard reset since then, and it reinstalled my Ext ROM, but I did not put anything in there that should be offensive to IE...
Did you ever resolve your issue?
Anyone able to help me with this, or suggest some places I can look for additional research?
problem GPRS connection in Italy
Also I' ve got the same problem of connection first with WIND's flat ISP and now (more frequently) with VODAFONE OMNITEL's flat ISP
As of a few days ago my EDGE/3G connection stopped connecting. All the settings are correct, even re-entered them manually a few times, still get the 'cannot connect' error, even though signal strength is more than adequate.
Even stranger, however, is when I use a .cab to automatically inject the settings everything works fine for a matter of minutes, then the connection problems resume.
Running CUSTEL's 2.5, problem started a couple weeks after the flash, and the only thing I have installed since is the Palm Threader, which makes no sense that it would be the culprit.
So this is not a WM6 issue correct? Its an issue with you messing up your connection settings... WRONG THREAD
Pardon me, it is not an issue with my settings, as I said in the first post even if I use a Settings Cab to inject them the data connection still quits after a few minutes even if i have not changed any settings. This never happend with WM5 and it is the first time it's happened with WM6, I would take it into a Cingular store, but I'm concerned the reps would see WM6 and just nullify any support.
Need more info to diagnose. What apps are you experiencing the problem in? Which cingular plan are you on? Which cab did you use to inject the settings.
There is some problem with the lastest wm6 roms for using cingular and pie if you are on the isp plan. Make sure your DNS is hard coded and it will fix it if its the same problem. Seach the forums and like most probs you will find your answer.
connection problems
just to let you know I have been having trouble connecting I connect and then get kicked off I had to use the isp connection settings my friend works for them and he told me it had to do with towers and the cingular and att thing
Edge and 3G
cingy had issues today had the same issue earlier all better now
yeah pure data access seems to be going alright, but for some bizarre reason i can't send/receive email without a synch error (will have to see if this relates to the Palm SMS Threader app though).
thanks guys.
I´ve experienced problem when loosing connection to 3G Network. When I loose the connection it will not connect again. Many times I´ve been forced to softreset the device to be able to get signal again.
I have tried different radio versions.
Perhaps this is due to local network comviq. Im not sure.
Anyone got a clue how to solve this?
Im using a Vario II with Black Shadow and radio 1.41 on Comviq, everything works like a charm. Might depend on where you are? I've had some connection problems in the UK (mainly crashes when the phone switches between 2G and 3G) but nothing at all in Sweden.
Hi,
I am using a T-mobile vario 2 in the UK. I recently flashed the radio rom to version 1.43 and replaced the operator rom with the official dopod wm6 rom. Most things are working ok but I have run into a few problems; hopefully someone here can help me.
First (minor) problem when the phone is first turned on it asks you to select a country. UK is not on the list, only countries in south pacific area. Does this prevent me from connecting properly to my local provider? ie do I show up as roaming?
Next problem is that I can't receive my voicemail. I phoned T-Mobile to check the number and setup etc but everything is correct. The phone just tells me "The number you have dialed is not recognised" or something to that effect.
Finally my phone frequently looses its data connection. When you open internet explorer a popup message shows saying: "Unable to connect to network for an unknown reason..." I checked all of the settings and they are ok. The only thing that fixes the data connection is to reset the phone. Probably I am also dropping calls whilst the phone is in this state.
So can anyone help? I think it is most likely the radio rom at fault but it could be related to not being able to select the correct county.
Thanks for your help
Matt

try radio 1.47 which comes with the dopod wm6
Ok I followed the suggestion and have upgraded to radio 1.47 but I still get the same problems. At least I have only checked the voicemail so far but get the same message. It actually says "You have dialed an incorrect number..."
Any other suggestions?
Download and install the provider Cab settings for your provider.
Search the wiki for more information
I have already done this. The settings are correct.
Hmm, thanks for the advice... now sms doesn't work either. PS. whilst flashing radio rom I also changed to JJ's black satin.
Please can somebody suggest a radio rom that is known to work well on T-Mobile in the UK. ie. no dropped calls, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA all working, voicmail and sms working, I don't care about video calling.
Thanks
Matt
Mat,
I am on TyTn and I had the same problem after installing Dopod WM6 version + 1.47 radio - on the second day majority of programs requiring internet connection were returning in message 'Unable to connect due to unknown reason...'. Even Wi-Fi was not responding. Only Resco Radio was working ?!?!
Solved this by removing the GRPS Internet settings and updating them manually.
As to the dropping calls, did you try to switch to GSM (instead of 3G). This is a common problem if your 3G covergae is bad?
Since upgrading the radio rom from 1.43 to 1.47 I have not had the "Unable to connect.. for an unknown reason" message. So I guess this was either due to some screwed up settings before, or some bug that has been fixed between releases.
I don't know how to switch from 3G to GSM but I am not convinced that this is the problem since my push email works just fine.
Incidentally I have noticed that my phone seems to default to 3G but as soon as I open a page in explorer it jumps into HSDPA, once it finishes it goes back to 3G. Is there a way to make it stay in HSDPA or is this a bad idea for some reason?
With the above observation in mind I could be wrong in thinking 3G was not my problem. Perhaps my phone jumps into HSDPA to receive push email.
So how do you force GSM or even GPRS over 3G?
Please forgive my ignorance.
Matt
Ok found a setting in com manager/phone/bands/ changed from auto which was putting me on umts to gsm. Was this what you meant? I have gone from 2 bars of 3G and 2 bars of HSDPA when in use to full bars of GPRS. Internet browsing was definitely faster with HSDPA but do you think I should be able to receive texts now? I know I have missed some and they still have not come through.
This is weird, after changing to GSM my htc home plugin reports 2 unread text messages but when I open up the SMS/MMS folder ther are no messages at all.
???
I find the best radio rom for Tmobile UK is 1.27 - see the wiki.
For your voicemail, set the phone to dial your own number, it works.
Ive tried all the new radios and always go back to 1.27. I am currently running Schaps lates WM6 rom (3.57a I think)

I must admitt Ive always end up going back to 1.27 too
Hi i'm on T-Mobile Uk Vario II currently using Black Satin & Radio 1.43 3g, hsdpa, sms, mms, voicemail all working.
Can only suggest reflash rom with somthing like Schaps 3.57a use his operator setting tool to set T-Mobile settings and use radio 1.43 and see what happens.
Cheers
It would appear that WM6 dialer strips the leading zero from the T-Mobile voicemail number +440507... giving +44507...
I have not figured out how to fix it yet.
For the voicemail thing, the dialer does indeed strip out the leading zero on the voicemail number - I spent hours trying to fix this and in the end, it was easy - just put an extra zero in the number (in network services) ;-)
I use Black Satin with Radio 1.47.00.10 and have no problems whatsoever but I'm still evaluating - I don't know if I've tried 1.27 yet so I think I'll look into that and report back the comparison.
You say you were having problems with data "unable to connect..." - I used to have this a lot and invariably, it was because my conection had somehow developed a proxy server - turned this off and it work after that (it usually happened after I synced it with my work computer)
Could the SMS messages be on your SIM or something? Not had this problem but have a look in SIM manager see if that can find anything.
The thing about HSDPA is that it isn't on all the time - the phone will stay in 3G until you or your phone initiates a data connection, then HSDPA will kick in for the duration of the connection then fall back to 3G - this is normal as your phone cannot receive calls and stuff while HSDPA is connected (I think - i'll look for clarification on this point - the phone will should drop the HSDPA when a call comes in).
Some people do report that data speeds etc seem faster when they mess with the band settings but I've not been able to confirm this and just leave it as it is.
If you don't get anywhere with your SMS problem, you could try the threaded apps that I've customised for t-mobile (links in my SIG) but be warned - any texts you have in your current SMS inbox will be inaccessible until you uninstall the threaded app. I'm using the WM6 one on mine at the moment and it works just fine for SMS and MMS.
Smiffy
Thanks for the replies guys!
I am now very happily running the 'normal' version of JJ's Black Satin rom and radio rom 1.48.
Everything seems to be working fine now. Adding the extra 0 into my voicemail number did the trick; so easy once you know how!
The data connection can still be slow occasionally. I think this is because if you have a weak 3G signal this overrides a stronger GPRS one. Sometimes the 3G signal is so weak it can't transfer any data and the phone just keeps trying in 3G rather than switching to the stronger GPRS signal which would work. This is easy the fix, just go into com manager and disable 3G (on the black satin rom at least).
Generally I am very happy and my device is finally working the way I wanted it to.
Once again, thanks for your help
Cheers

I use whats in my sig and it works well. I get the 3g/gprs battle at my house alot. Complain to tmobile regularly and they'll sort it out eventually.
After upgrading from my XDA IIs to my new 8525 I immediately flashed the Schaps 3.54b WM6 ROM. After setting up the connection settings just as I had had them on my BA I noticed the internet didn't work. I thought it might be a T-Mobile issue since with the T-MobileWeb service you must use the proxy server to route HTTP traffic. I put my SIM back into my BA and the internet works! Next my thoughts are that this being a new Edge capable device that they could detect this and block service. Well just today I flashed the Dopod Lite rom, internet still broke. But then I flashed Black X b2 and low and behold its working! I did think that the Dopod Lite "6mb PP" was a bit faster than black so I'd like to use it but why won't the net work on those two roms? Any ideas?
I Got near same Problem,
I was a Happy user with an old WM5 Black Rom. I checked the forums and found a discussion About a WM6 Black od Schnap's Rom. Schnap's in is favour. I tried the 3.54b Full Rom and wasn;t able to connect to the T-Mobile atenna. I kept on searching, when i changed to Manual Network selection I was able to connect.
When I tried GPRS it worked, when i went outside to get 3G you see the switch of reception from G to 3G in the Topbar, butt when trying to surf it doesn't work. Looks like some kind of block or setting.
I also tried 3.57a Full Rom it will connect butt then again no Data is comming in the Browser Windows. When i Switch to GPRS only it works.. I was ble to use the automatec network selection.
Very Strange and annoying...
Regards Tom
fyi...T-Mobile USA has no 3G; only EDGE access. They told me they plan on having 3G later this year and they are testing it. My EDGE gprs internet access works great with schaps 3.54c.
When trying another SIM from KPN I have no problems.
It's strange, i flashed to another ROM 3.54c from Schap's again I ran into trouble. When i poppe in a SIM from another provider KPN, it worked inmediately. This KPN provider has gprs / umts and hsdpa.. You see the icon performing seamless handover for the data connection. When creating traffic if switches to hsdpa and when there is no or less traffic it goed back to UMTS, you see the icon switcing between 3G and H.
When putting back the T-Mobile SIM i have trouble connecting with the GSM antenna's you see the Antenna symbol seraching. Normally it fixes to the provider within 3-10 seconds. T-mobile only has GPRS and UMTS, also my UMTS subscription is trothled down to max 224 kb/sec (This is cheaper for monthly costs). Maybe the trotheling is the problem?
When it does connect sometimes, after driving to my home or after several warm resets it's hard to connect to 3G. My work is situated in a building which has coated windows. So inside the building I only have GPRS reception. GPRS is no problem, when i walk outside, it switches to 3G (UMTS) allmost instantly except there is no data connection handover. I'm unable to get any bit from the 3G connection. It appears to be a solid connection because you see the solid 3G above the reception indicators.
Puting back the KPN sim and everything works as it should.
Regards Tom
