Synchronization Failed.

I'm having this problem with windows live on my dopod 838 pro.
Here's the problem.
Whenever i click on the Sync tab on my today screen, it will start synchronizing all the folders in my email, download whatever emails, upload whatever emails and then it goes to "personal settings" and fails.
I get this message on my today screen in the windows live tab saying "Synchronization Failed.". Anyone experiencing this problem?
Its not that i have never synced before cause the last successful sync was on the 15 of april 2007 at 11:39Pm.
So i am quite boggled by this. I was thinking it was because i was connecting thru wifi, but even when i have it docked to my pc, it fails. I don't know where to start. I've checked my settings both on my dopod and also on my pc and also in windows live settings.
Anyone know anything about this issue i'm having?

I guess no one has encountered this problem....
I need to find out. Also, does anyone know how to merge contacts. Example:
Outlook contact: Smith,John
Windows Live Messenger: Smith,John
How to merge these 2?

I've got the same problem, whether I connect via WiFi or GPRS/UMTS
It used to work perfectly at all times, then it started working for only a few hours after a soft-reset, now it doesn't work at all bo matter what I do.
I noticed that sync is done automatically while I'm connected to messenger (and mails and contacts are synchronized ok), so everytime I want to check my emails I just connect to messenger for a while and then sign out...
any help is welcome !!
problem occurs using Black 2.0 ROM (didn't try on LVSW yet)

I found the cause of this issue... if u go to ur msn (windows live) on ur pc and get rid of your display picture then the sync will be successful on your PDA, however if u display a pic and then sync, it will fail... it doesnt seem to like exporting ur picture, however it will be down I think as Windows Live is merging with Xbox Live in may on the xbox 360, so it may be something which is being done at the moment! otherwise everything else will sync.

sync works for me now, with or without display pic
maybe it was a server problem...

Thanx man.. Your suggestion really worked. Also, do you know how i can merge my contacts? I have duplicate.. I tried renaming all of the contacts in MSN on my PC to suit my outlook.. but it still shows up different...

I found a way to merge contacts. Make sure the Name, IM and Email are exactly the same. And delete your windows live account, and then resync it again. it should then merge everything.

you could also try clearing the ie cache and temp files if you are not saving them the the storage card. I had the same problem I could only sync after a soft reset and usually only once. I noticed my mem had dropped to around 25mB or so when it is usually around 41mB. After clearing cache and temp files I very rarely have that problem and if I do, I free up more mem. Hope that helps

it just failed again but worked without the display picture, you were right !!

it just failed again - but worked without the display picture, you were right !!

I have problems with syncing my live contacts with Outlook 2007 in Vista..
Live contacts just don`t appier in the outlook, when I re-flash my device, I loose all the live contacts but on the next windows live sync my contacts just appier back with phone numbers and everything.. I wonder where is all the data keept, phone numbers and everything.. if it isn`t in outlook 2007 ??

I had this problem too! Will try what you suggested. Strange that it works for a few hours then stops. I found that signing in and out helped.
Does anyone know how to change the reply to address?

I get this error too but it still downloads my emails ? I think thats strange and alot of the time Messenger wont signin I get some weird error about it.

It's stopped working for me. Deleted my profile pic, still no joy.

same for me, removed the display pic, works only sometimes...

Please don't shout at me coz I've Googled and searched this forum but can't see anyone with my problem (which I guess means it is my problem?)
I can sync wirelessly with our hosted Exchange server and Calendar items and Contact items sync from Exchange to my Black 2.0 Tytn OK. Emails however do not. They just appear to be ignored completely. I think it worked OK with Black 1.2 but I can't be absolutely sure.
Is there some email setting I have missed somewhere?

what's wrong with the WLM synchronisation? :S it's been doing this for days now.
EDIT: for me, i can seem to get my WLM to fully synchronise if i don't synchronise my email.. i think the problem (in my case) is because my Live messenger address is not a real email address (it's a forwarding address which is linked to my real email account).

I'll toss my hat in the ring alongside those getting this 'synchronization failed' error. I receive all my emails ok, however messenger shows all my contacts as offline (but I must be logged in, as people can message me), and my display name only shows my email address. This has only begun in the last day or so. I am running Windows Mobile 6 Black 2.5 Telstra.
I have tried a soft reset and also using 'switch account' to see if that would recreate the connection, but no go. I'm not sure if it covers mobiles but Microsofts MSN status pages shows no known issues.
A colleague of mine has his working fine on the same device/software I have.
This is driving me nuts!

I find if I clear the password and login again it works.
Activesync has very nice logging, does anyone know how to turn logging on for Live?

I have my domain hosted by live i.e. my mx records point to live. Wonder if this kind of account is a problem?

Buggy Exchange email - emails keep vanishing

Can someone help me here please?
I have Exchange set up on my Desire. Occasionally, the last day or so's emails will not show on the phone under the inbox. They are there on the PC which is also on exchange but not the phone!
If I move the lost emails using the pc to a subfolder then back to the inbox and then resync the phone, the emails reappear on the phone's email app!
Any clues about what is going on here?

Are you sure none of the clients are removing the mail from the server after reading?
We have been having this problem in our office as well, without the use of phones. Some computers see all emails and others tend to make a selection. Really really annoying.
Couldn't figure it out.

I was getting this the first few days that I had the phone, in desperation I deleted the account each time and added it again. I think I did this three times in all, but I've not had it happen for sometime now. It's my own Exchange server running Exchange 2007 - I couldn't find anything in the logs to indicate a problem, and as it's not happened since I not bothered to look any further.

My wife's phone has done it a couple of times. Mine never has. We both use Activesync against my own 2010 Exchange server.
Deleting the account and re-adding seems to sort it, but is a pain. The mails are definitely there on the Exchange side. The mails seem to appear initially on the phone and then some time after (during another sync) disappear completely from the phone.

You mention you are syncing with an Exchange 2010 server. Does your Calendar also get synced?

What makes it really weird is that touchdown running on the phone doesnt bugger it up! I may email HTC just to get really annoyed and fobbed off by them....

Yep - the Calendar syncs.
Unfortunately the Desire doesn't support stuff like setting appointments to free/busy/out of office and if you create a repeated appointment on the phone you can't set an end date.
These are issues with the phone as a whole though, not just Exchange 2010.

[GMail] Mail taking forever to arrive...

When I get mail its taking long periods of time (2 + hours) before the phone syncs and alerts me. Should this not be instant? If I perform a manual sync mail always comes in at that point.
Im using the built in gmail app (not mail). Background data, and Auto sync are checked. Sync Calendar/contacts/Gmail are checked. Gmail account does have IMAP and POP enabled, I had no issue with instant email sync with the PRE.
Is there a setting im missing? I really need email to be more instant than hours.

There are several of us that are having this problem today...If your phone just started doing this today it's likely that this is a problem with a gmail server somewhere.

Mine's been working fine lately. Is your Gmail set to sync as mail arrives, or is it timed?

This has been an issue since I got the device, mail delivery has always been very delayed.

Maybe I'm slow but where is this setting?

[Q] Exchange ActiveSync - Connection socket timeout

I just got the DHD and am pretty stoked it has Exchange ActiveSync. My problem is that it seems to be very unstable and give "connection socket timeout" and is totally unreliable.
I've added and deleted the account twice and it starts out nicely with the Sync. Now my contacts are at 90% and keeps getting this friggin' error!..
I used HD, HD2 previously and never had these exchange sync issues.
Anyone else having these probs with Exchange ActiveSync on DHD?

I am trying so sync for a month now with no real success
I have tried several workarounds and third party apps (ImproveEmail, Roadsync) but none of them worked well.
I am now back to stock HTC client.
Now emails sync well but calendar is a disaster!
Calendar used to sync 10% of my appointments and was showing SSL error.
Now since I, one more time, deleted account-purged calendar-recreated my account, calendar is not syncing at all (SSL error).
And Logcat is not very helpful.
I spent days on net trying to find fixes or workarounds; many people are complaining, and there is no 'true' fix.
That pisses me off when I see that Windows mobile phone or IPhone can sync with no problem !!!

Same as you, I had lot of sync problems with Exchange. It was completely unreliable, until I discovered Laurie's blog !

I installed the Google stock 2.2 email apk (as described in the blog) and after few minutes my calendar was fully synchronized and I receive emails in push. That's great
I am not sure that would solve your issue but it is worth trying it.
(make sure to delete the HTC exchange account).

I have tried so many different things. It seems that using Moxier Mail is the only thing that seems to work. I've been going back to all the message board posts that I came across to share my solution. I hope it works for you.

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I find that turning the phone off for 10 minutes and then on again fixes the problem for a while, but it always comes back.

I`ve tried the solution from lauries blog and it worked.
The only thing i' ve changed is that i backed up the whole rom, installed the apk and imediatly opened it.
The program isn' t as handy as the new one but atm it works.

I can confirm that the 2.2 google stock mail APK is working for me too. (solution described above)
I have 4 hotmail accounts and no pb to synchronize them (with push settings). Calendar and Contacts are OK too.
I give you the APK below. You can install it without root like any other APK.
You'll be able to uninstall it also, as the app name isn't the same as the htc mail client.

WP7 Mango Beta - Facebook Chat

So i installed the Mango Beta, but i have had trouble setting up Facebook chat.
Every time i go to, it try to do it, it clearly tries to do some oAuth authentication. Most of the time i get a "The address is not valid" in a browser control. Sometimes i get another weird error (it hasn't come up in a while).
So I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this, if they have had they had any success, or if they have found a way around it?
I have tried over both 3g and Wifi.

Same problem on my wp, and i still haven't had success

It seems that you have to add the Facebook Service via Live so that the Facebook Chat gets enabled. I have managed to activate FB Chat on my phone now, but still there are no contacts online. Gonna have to look into that.

Some people said to delete the Facebook account from the phone and add it again but it didn't work for me, same error :/

I already had it set up with live for 9months or so now.
But i just checked it now, and it enabled its self and is working AFTER (about 30minutes after) i went to account settings and syncronised my facebook account...
Its must just be a werid beta issue

I don't think it is a WP issue (well the whole page loading error is) but my contacts aren't populating the desktop client. Everyone has reported that once the desktop client populated with FB chat friends, that it immediately started working on their phone. So there is some issue going on between IM and FB.

Ya i guess that's the problem once you're connected.
My contacts are also not shown in the Windows Live Messenger. (I have to admit - I do not have the Messenger installed, but the contacts are not shown on the Windows Live Website neither)

yup i forgot about it until a friend messaged me and i was surpised it came in my sms box haha

I was able to force my Windows Live and Facebook accounts to sync up by just going to accounts and pressing them and choosing 'sync'. Did Windows Live first, then Facebook and a minute later all was well.

I was also able to get mine to work doing this.

Took a bunch of hours, but Facebook Chat finally works perfectly.

Mine says "error0" or something like that when go to my Facebook account in Email+Accounts, can't use Facebook chat.

Tried everything I can. Went into FB on my computer, deleted the Live Messenger client, re-installed. Everything, but nothing. When add friends, it says I either have no friends, or that I already invited them.

Set everything up, and just sit tight for a day. Let is all sink in.

I just got my fb chat working this is how you do it!
Disable facebook chat in the message settings.
Login to your live.com account you used for your phone.
add facebook if it's not under services already. it is click on it anyways and just then click on save. Back on live.com you should now see messenger friends, and it should show all the people facebook available for chat.
Now go to your phone, settings, email accounts, and sync the live account first, then sync your facebook account.
Go back to messaging and settingsm turn fb chat on and everyone should show up! Atleast this is what worked for me, but you have to login to live.com on your laptop, not your phone.
