I have searched mutiple ways. I have found just about every baked, half baked, dumped and changed wm6 ROM's out there. I have seen posts saying that what they had was the official wm6 AT&T ROM *but they had removed this or that.
I WOULd LIKE PURE!!!! Put plain and simply, the exact same OEM WM6 AT&T ROM that I would get if I bought a new device from my local AT&T store without have to buy a new device.
I have a Cingular (AT&T) 8125.
What I am NOT looking for in posts back:
Suggestions telling me to "stick it".
Telling me to search harder. (I have. And I have used google)
Someone telling me to go buy a new device.
Suggestion to try someone's half baked or modified ROM.
Just the original, unmodified or tarnished by what someone thinks is best.
Thanks,
Curious George
There's no such thing as an official wm6 ROM for the wizard from AT&T or any other carrier. If there was, you could download it directly from the AT&T website or the HTC website.
As for the "half baked" ROM's you can find in the wizard section, they were based on leaked versions that came from micrsoft and each had a whole lot of bugs in them that a lot of people here spent a a whole lot of time working out. If you don't want to use them, then don't, but don't go bad mouthing the work that so many people donated their time and effort to give to you free of charge.
They didn't GIVE me anything because I did NOT accept it. Half baked refers to those ROMS that people customize to their specific needs but make no sense to a general user. Removing important items and filling them up with unimportant trash. My first post was a tongue and cheek remark of not suggesting those. I don't need a principal or admonishment here.
Thanks,
what you DO need is to WAKE UP and crawl out of that box labeled "OFFICIAL".
(isn't the "OFFICIAL ROM" what "someone" THINKS is best?)
If you don't like the wm6 roms available, then get a vanilla rom and cook your own. That way it will have just what YOU want.
BTW they HAD to remove stuff from the leaked WM6 to make the rom fit the Wizards memory, also, if you didn't accept the cooked roms then how do you know they're half baked?
Since there ISN'T an official WM6 rom for the Wizard, your options (short of buying a new device) are:
Continue to use WM5 (official or not)
use an "unofficial" WM6 rom
cook your own WM5 rom
cook your own WM6 rom <- Best Option IMHO
I just doesn't make any sense to rant and rave about the useless stuff in other peoples roms when all the tools, packages, tutorials, and kitchens are available for you to make a custom rom to suit your specific needs.

hi curious george
I think you missunderstand the whole thing about cooking roms. and what an Offical rom is. these cooked roms are all made by people that have spesific needs and an official wm6 from AT&T would also contain alot of junk that you might never need.
It's the same with OEM pc's when you buy a HP or A Dell you will get the basic OS + what HP or Dell think you would also need.
so an offical AT&T rom would not have the same apps as an offical O2 or a offical HTC rom.. but they would all still be offical roms but by 3 differant companies.
and romcookers do the job (for free) that AT&T,O2 and HTC would need to hire people to do for money.

@everybody_else: I'm growing increasingly intolerant of newbie bashing so I deleted your posts. If you can't post something constructive, expect this to happen.
Sorry for my noob bash. I just though the post was funny given the topic below was "Finally! HTC Official WM6 Download Site posted".
Anywho here is a noob question as I am new to WM6 and flashing my phone myself. Will the official HTC TyTN ROM be any better than any of the cooked ROMs? Do HTC have access to newer official Microsoft WM6 components that ROM cooks don't already have access to? HTC also obviously produce their own software to be added to the ROM such as the video dialer and X-Button. Do current ROM cooks have access to the latest versions of these?
I know I'll be able to answer my own question in a short while when the TyTN ROM becomes available but I'm just curious.
Sleuth255--I applaud your stance on noob bashing and would encourage more mods and Sr mbrs do the same. Taking the higher ground is always the better way to go. Quite simply, if one does not like the question, one is not obligated to respond, so there's no need for flaming. There should only be 2 options to questions-- 1.)answers with/without some education and 2.)ignore the post and move on to something more to your liking. If you feel that someone is wasting bandwidth with a stupid question, WHY compound that by wasting MORE bandwidth with a worthless flaming response????
@DTheTank: Indications are that the TyTN ROM may be AKU1.0 which would indicate a newer build than what we currently have for Hermes. I believe we are current on the CE core however.

Thanks Sleuth. Your ROM is the quickest and most stable of the ROMs I've tried. It would take something new and seriously cool in an official ROM to make me switch over away from my current ROM.
Simple question I want all opinions, I just got my 2nd 8525, and this time I am gonna do it RIGHT!! (last 1 i had I was super n00b and kiled it within 48hrs I cried for a week) Anyways I just want the simplest answer or opinion I want my 8525 to last forever. SO I will flash it to the BEST WM6 ROM once and never again will I change it.
SO I am looking for just the BEST GENERAL OVERALL WM6 ROM, I am just gonna be using it as phone and only use the WiFI to connect to the NET, so the ROM I am looking for needs to be STABLE and needs to NOT ruin me or my 8525, I have been reading everyones SIGs to see what ROMs ya'll use, but I just WANT the Opinions of the regulars here
WHAT Windows Mobile 6 ROM should I upgrade to?? I will take ALL suggestions PLEASE help me, I dont wanna kill my 8525 again, I just want to flash it and leave it at that!!
THANK YOU EVERYONE
P.S I'm not a complete n00b if u read the whole thread you'll see I do my homework
the number one advise which everyone has been giving which has been pounded into everyone's mind, which you somehow manage to avoid listening to, is to first install hardspl. Hardspl is a must if you want to upgrade your rom.
as for the best rom recommendation, i will tell you this, there is no such thing as a best rom, everyone will have their own preferences, what works for one may not work for another person. just see any thread on ppl asking for best roms and you will see many many different replies.
just by the fact that you are making this post i will assume you want the easy way out, you rather have ppl do the recommendations for you than read and learn on your own, so i will give you the easy way out solution. Install the official at&t wm6 rom, and just soft reset before the customization starts and there you go, all done. its either that or return you phone and get a firefly. or a symbian phone. but i highly recommend the firefly.

Still don't believe noobs don't read the guides before installing. As test7875 said above you need to go through the upgrade guide, and possibly wiki pages before you do anything to your phone.

this is my 2nd time around if you Wouldnt MIND checking out the attached jpeg of my 8525 Bookmarks you would see that I do DO MY homework, I have read the wiki over and over, and I already have DONE the HARSPL V7 first .. (from olipro).
Once you've got HardSPL on, it's up to you really. Some are good and some are...flaky, to be polite.
I would start with the official one from your carrier and use that for a day or two so you have a good, hopefully stable, benchmark to measure the competition up against.
Bang all your apps on it and see how it runs then try the same thing on the cooked ones.
Smiffy.
I Phrased my Subject of the Thread and my actual question WRONG, I know that ther is NO best ROM is all about what features u want, be I want the opinions of you guys, the ones that call me a n00b, I value your opinion, I did my homework, I just want to flash my 8525 ONCE to a WM6 ROM that will last me the life of the phone. Heres what I like 1. theme skins 2. stability 3. good wifi 4. and I guess I want no bloatware so it will be a FAST ROM
So basically I just want to know what you guys (the experts) can suggest to me. Just want 1 ROM that will enable me to use my 8525 to the best of its capabilities!!
thank you

i have used the offical ROM on my last 8525, and thats the one that got me i n troube and killed my 1st 8525

its hard to pick a ROM for you. Generally you can't go wrong with Farias/Dr Puttinghams/schaps to name a few. As for applications, be careful not to overload your phone with .cab's as this will slow it down.
There are a number of ROM's out there which are stripped of applications and built more for speed (though right now I'm having a complete blond moment and can't remeber one of them....doh!!!), and from there you can add to your own personal preferences.
Hey SPARTAN, I noticed u are using WM6.1, but before that what ROM did you use, and better yet what was the ROM that you used the absolute LONGEST??? or what is your personal favorite??
I'm a bit of a ROM freak, as I never keep the same ROM for any real length of time. Think I've used pretty much everything with little tweaks here and there.
Mostly used Schaps, as he tends to provide very stable ROM’s and eagerly awaiting Schaps 6.1 full version, but currently using Faria-R32 / Dr Puttingham WM6.1
Well I am close to going thru with the ROM flash, I just did my weekly REINSTALL of my operating system (been using XP lately) and I just installed the necessary drivers and programs to keep my computer from messing up or having ANY sort of error while the flash process is going on, just the very basics installed, thats really what the cause of death was for my first AT&T 8525(HERMES100) I got sloppy and was then a n00b, did a real n00bish thing and KILLED my 1st 8525. The funny thing with that was I had it for only 48hrs, and I cried for a week after. I still have it, might send it to HTC USA for repair.
But getting back to the todays upgrade, I am still in the process of deciding what ROM I will install, so I gotta ask are there ANY last recommendations on which WM6 ROM I should use?? I just wanna hear any and all last opinions
1st : Shamanix Ultimate v2 Final and 2nd : Kinokin WM6 Final.
I'm valuing ALL opinions
I know, I know this getting annoying and I keep asking dumb questions but I wanna decide, so here is the question
Which is better and/or more stable Schap's WM6 Pro 4.00 or 4.01???
and how good is Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31 cause I am almost leaning towards 4.31, but I like I have said before I want stability and something thats gonna keep my 8525 running longest and strongest
This is gonna be it NO more stupidity coming from ME, I just want last opinions on Schap's WM6 Pro 4.00 - 4.01 and 4.31
and THANK YOU everyone who took the time to help me, I know members like me get annoying, but I do my homework, I just wanted a little help
THANKS
Opinions, eh? I'm opinionated AND drunk...
Here's mine: go with 6.0 instead of 6.1.
People experienced in dealing with little niggles and issues by altering registry entries or installing lots of small cabs get on fine with 6.1, depending on which ROM of course. If you're new to upgrading then the issues that have yet to ironed out of 6.1 in such as a way as to make it a simple 1-click-to-install-and-you're-done job will probably annoy you too much. Smiffy's advice was really good mate: start with a ROM you can rely on, which basically means your own carrier's. If they haven't produced a WM6 yet (mine, OrangeUK, haven't and probably won't as they do lag rather badly in that area) then go for the most basic, cut-down and reportedly stable 6.0.
After you've got used to using your carrier's mobile you'll notice when the phone's faster or not when using different things on a new ROM. Only move up to 6.1 when you're well-used to how your phone fares with 6.0. (I'm assuming you won't install any benchmarking software. Not calling you lazy as I don't either - I just judge the 'feel' of it.)
I heartily recommend using mattk_r's Pandora Naked 6.0 - it's stable as any ROM I've ever used, including official ROMs. Give me a minute, I'l fetch the link.
Here you go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1731669
I use a ROM based on the kitchen with a lot of my own kit thrown in. But I didn't start out like that; I started out like you, needing a few pointers, doing a lot of reading and occasionally annoying the hell out of myself.
By the way, if you're not using an SDHC card (which I assume you're not from the sounds of things) do me a favour and stick a copy of the original carrier's ROM on your SD card after renaming it HERIMG.nbh. Should you do a ChunkyMonkey Special and temporarily brick your phone (I used to do it all the time mate) it's an easy out in many cases, even if you can't boot past your bootloader.
(But take the SD card out when you flash your ROM. Although that's good practice anyway, so just do it.. )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359917&highlight=ultimate
As you can see (if you checked!) Ultimate is based on Schaps 4.31 ROM and more refined.
I'd go for LVSW.
Seriously man, you're asking the impossible. If you've read the forum so throroughly as you've claimed, you'd know that once you start, you'll not stop. Each of the ROMs, whilst good in their own way, has some kind o prolems with it that will make you change it for something else.
For example - Schaps 4.31 - an excellent rom but you have to install a fix for button 5 plus a couple of other gripes. Nothing major but enough to make me eventually keep looking once something different comes along.
You're not going to find the "one" rom.
The only place you'll find the one is in the matrix. Flashing is like the red pill. You're free of restraint but it comes at a cost.
I know I am asking for a "DREAM" I really just wanted opinions of what would be a GOOD, solid WM6 ROM, cause I am gonna flash it ONCE to the ROM I pick and that s IT, not more flashing or trying out new ROMs and this or that.
Put it this way IF you all had to CHOOSE just 1 WM6 ROM to flash and the fate of the world was riding on your choice of ROM, it had to be stable and save humanity, What ROM would that be??
thats the kinda opinions I want to help me make my choice
For the last 2 weeks, I've been reading the forum and waiting delivery on a unlocked/unbranded HTC TYTN with WM 5.0.
It appears the disadvantage of the AT&T release ROMs are speed and bloatware. I haven't seen any comments on the advantages or disadvantages of the official HTC WM 6.0 ROMs versus the cooked 6.0/6.1 ROMs.
Can anyone provide any comments on the official HTC ROMs? Sorry, if I missed it, but, I've been trying to cram as much knowledge as possible about this device and trying to make a decision on a cooked ROM or the official HTC one.
Thanks!

NEW THREAD on Opinions on the default HTC TYTN WM 6.0 ROM
I bet you didn't read anything on the open forums and you just asked your humble question...
GUIDE: on this website there is something called WIKI which has all answers to all Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I kindly ask the moderators to do 2 important things for our forum to keep it updated:
1- open a new thread and give it the name "SPAQ" (Seldom and Personal Asked Questions) to avoid openning new threads for questions like this one.
2- we have now 258 threads opened for Hermes and that makes searching for a solution never easy unless we delete the dead and inactive threads which exceed the 150 threads... unbelievable, isn't it?
thanks
PS sorry mate, I have nothing against you personally
Wow, it took all of 18 posts to obtain that attitude? I have bookmarked and read over 50 threads. I read the wiki, I read the AT&T HTC forums, I read the Howardforums, Aximsite/MobilitySite, this site and even joined HTC Club.
Many threads, tell you how fast a cooked ROM is or what apps are in the ROM, I don't see anyone saying anything about the performance of the default HTC ROMs besides AT&T ROMs stink. I haven't seen any threads on why some people actually prefer the default to cooked ROMs or vice versa.
Nothing against you, but if searching for a solution is never easy for a savvy veteran like yourself, what makes you think every visitor or new member will find exactly what they are looking for? Even in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390603&page=4, you mentioned sticking to the default HTC ROM, you didn't go into details? If you would have just given the reasons why you picked the default ROM, that would have been extremely helpful, instead you assume I'm lazy and went on your soapbox.
I hope you gain some tolerance by your 25th post.
Cheers
I've been running the default 6.0 since November. I've been thinking of going to a cooked 6.0 or 6.1 ROM but have not taken the plunge. I have yet to see one thread regarding any that did not have several "It HR every XXXX days/hrs/min etc.. "
As of now I've had my share of lockups but nothing that a soft reset did not fix. While the AT&T 6.0 may be full of bloat it is the most reliable as I have not seen anyone complain that it Hard Resets.
Hope that helps.
HeyKrop, thanks for the feedback. ExactlyThat was my concern and wondering if the default HTC ROM would be better than AT&T, but not equal to a cooked version.
Right now, I'm leading to HTC's ROM and was hoping to find a definitive difference between that version and any cooked ROM. I'll continue "searching the threads" before making my final decision.
Thanks for taking time out to help a newbie.
(sigh) yes another thread on noob flashing.. guess it's my turn!
Hello,
i've been flashin my hermes for a year now and my advice would be.:
JUMP IN! the water is great my friend.
if your into flashin roms and learning from (experience). This is a good place to be.
There is wonderful talent here in xda, and the share their findings for us to learn and try out.
Don't be scared man! Just flash away!!
I recommend start with stock rom.. the move up to cooked wm6, theeeennn to 6.1's.. by then you should know the in's and outs
of your phone.
check some of the older schaaps roms. also search for my personal fav blackdragon.. he did a masterful job on a wm6 rom.
then graduate to 6.1..
-peace and happy flashing!
also...
If i remember correctly if you do flash the official ATT rom, you can soft reset the device right before the Carrier specific customization begins and interrupt all the att bloat.
I repeat again my dear friend/brother/... I really have nothing against you personally, and I am myself not that expert to answer all questions from everybody. I have a device and I'm trying almost everything on it because I know I'm dealing with software issues and I can reset whenever I want... so no risk at all in "jumping into the water" (thanks Joshkoss) as long as you read the necessary step-by-step guides.
I'm sorry for my intolerance, I surely didn't mean it to be.
PS I'm not counting my posts
Dude,
Come to think of it, When i got my phone, I didn't read one wiki before I started flashing... It's that safe!! Just make sure you have HARD SPL!!

he he he he , same here. i also did the same and after i installed hard spl. bcoz i wasn't aware of hardspl and i didn't read the deatils available in wiki section of hermes at that time.
also i agree with josh koss quote "jump in, water is great". i really do agree with him. but in my opinion there are alway some sort of bugs available in cooked roms and they are not perfect but the official roms are perfect and there is rare chance that there will be any bug in it. i've tried many cooked roms of 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5, but rite now i am using official HTC rom from last 3 weeks and i haven't face any problem yet.
but the decision is yours, so cheers
It is remarkable that we cannot get a custom ROM for the Epix.
The only non ATT Rom I have access to that I could put on my Epix is a Beta Windows Mobile 7 build which cannot easily be rolled back and is not completely functional.
It is Ironic that Microsoft is using the Epix and the T8285 (Touch HD with 850 UMTS) as the prototype devices for WM7, yet no one has built native custom roms for these phones.
(The Touch HD Roms are designed for the T8282 which kills the US 3G support)

WM7 ?! Care to share? If the Epix is more or less similar to the i780 maybe something will be possible.... but I need an EXE updater or BINARY of the PDA..... what's worse I cannot test it....
edit: Sooooo... not interested?
Isn't it typical that cooked ROMs don't show up until after an "official" one has been put out there? I'm guessing once ATT does an update (if they ever do) there will be a bunch that are born shortly after.
I've also read that the Epix actually has more in common with the Omnia than the i780, although obviously has aspects of both.
My big question is whether or not the Epix will get the 6.5 upgrade. It has the specs to handle it for sure, and now that Microsoft has greenlighted phones that meet minimum specs it's up to ATT. Unfortunately I have little faith they'll go to the trouble of doing it instead of just releasing new phones that already come with 6.5. You'd think that support for phones would last as long as the contracts (2 years), but the real cycle seems more like 9 months!

Actually the dump from the Epix that is available is cook-able, however I would like to try the WM7 ROM that is mentioned in the first post... the poster hasn't replied to my PM yet
I appologize for the delay.
I work at microsoft and it turns out that my name and employee info is in there in various places (I have to key in to get a build and it modifies various bits so that if I "loose" the phone, they know how to remotely wipe + hard reset it. it. If I were to share the file and someone were to find out about it, that would be a bad thing.
I would love to share it, but I don't want to take the personal risk.

I have an i907 and want to cook a basic ROM for it. My goal for a first ROM is to remove some of the AT&T crapware, add the new notification style (à la showthread.php?t=513924), and flash it back. I'll share any working ROMs here.
Heads up: this is my first attempt at cooking anything for WM so please bear with me. However, I've been reading the forums and I think I have a reasonable understanding of the process of cooking.
If someone can help me with a few questions to get me started, that would be greatly appreciated. Once I get going, I should be able to learn the rest on my own; I promise not to post 1000 annoying noob questions at every step of the way.
+ inertiax3, which kitchen tools work with the Epix? I read some speculation that the i780 kit could work. Can a resulting ROM be flashed to the Epix?
+ Should I use the ROM dump from this forum or would it be better to dump my own?
+ Do I need to flash any special loaders/etc before I can flash a cooked ROM?
Thanks loads! I really hope that we Epix users can finally have custom ROMs.
THANK YOU! Happy to help out however I can. I don't know anything about ROM cooking, but I know the Epix pretty well and am really glad to see someone taking this on!

EFN's tools should work pretty well..
It's up to you if you wish to use the already available dump or create your own, the latter would be especially useful if your device shipped with a newer release. To cook a ROM you also need the XIP from your device and I think the dump someone posted doesen't include this
No, you don't need to flash anything, but make sure you device can enter the BOOTLOADER mode and has a HARD RESET key combo
I have a iphone 3gs jailbroken. Im getting a Tilt 2 for xmas. I want to know what i can do to get the phone to run as smoothly as possible, meaning is it possible to get ride of all the software that ATT includes in it? what woud be the best rom to put on it and are there walkthroughs to get that done? Also is there a site like appulous for windows mobile like for the iphone?
Welcome to forums
You have made a great choice moving from iphone to Rhodium!
1st I would recommend is to flash a cooked ROM from our great chefs, stock ROM´s are full of crap and slow the entire system.
Here to learn how to:

Once you know how, enter to ROM section and select your preferred ROM
Good luck and happy flashing!

If you want to remove the AT&T garbage and have your device run at its fastest, you might want to try a custom ROM. If you are interested in flashing a custom ROM, directions on how to do that are here.
As for the best ROM, that's kind of tricky to decide. All the ROMs are very different, and appeal to different people. I personally like EnergyROM (link is in my signature), but other people may prefer different ROMs. I highly suggest flashing many different ROMs until you find one you like the looks of.
As for freeware sites, there are loads of them. I like freewarepocketpc, but 1800pocketpc and XDA-Developers (this site) also have many great freeware apps.
Lastly, since you're new with this device, I recommend reading the stickies (which can be found at the top of each subforum) and taking a look at the XDA-Wiki page concerning the Rhodium, found here. Now that I've said all that, I'd like to welcome you to XDA-Developers!
