REPLACING AT&T Tilt ROM - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello!
I just got an unlocked at&t and I would like to install a new HTC TYTN II WM6
ROM...even the original one.
In fact, I am in France and I have a bouygues telecom contract that has
a bug with HTC TYTN II/ Tilt.....but to fix the error I need to have an HTC
TYTN II ROM. Besides the problem of the keyboard, do you think I can replace
it?
Sorry for probably the stupid questions but I am VERY NAIVE with WM programming...
Thanks!

Best version for Vario II?

OK. I'm ready to take the plunge since I'm not expecting T-Mobile to release an official upgrade any time soon (if ever). Before I upgrade my Vario II from WM5 to WM6, can someone answer the following questions (yes, I have read the wiki about flashing and upgrading).
1. What version is "best" for T-Mobile Vario II?
2. Can I go back to WM5 if I need to return my phone under warranty?
My desktop PC runs Vista if that makes any difference re. the choice of WM6 to use (I think some programs require ActiveSync?).
Re. 2, I see that there is a copy of the ROM on this site - does that mean I just download and install over WM6 if I need to?
Cheers.

1. Personal taste - try them out! Black Pro 2.5 has a separate T-mobile edition so I would try this first
2. Yes

HTC Diamond ROM on MDA Compact IV

Maybe a stupid question...
I've used the search function, but dit not find any related article about my question.
Question:
Is it possible to install and run one of the HTC Diamond ROMs on this forum on a T-Mobile MDA Compact IV (the HTC Diamond from T-Mobile) or will this be the end of the MDA?
I read that the hardware of the MDA is the same as the Diamond, but that doesn't answer the question. Maybe someone already succeeded with installing and running a HTC Diamond ROM on the MDA.
Thanks for the answers!
I am new to flashing ROMs and have been reading the forums here to try and work out how to do it.
As far as I am aware, yes you can flash any ROM to your device. I believe you will need something called Hard SPL - and your updated ROM.
Still not sure what 'Radios' are though lol...
Yes it is possible to install htc roms on mda compact 4 because it is basically the same device, not 100% same but you can use all software from the diamond on your device. But read below the important things.
HARD SPL IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO INSTALL OTHERWISE YOU WILL BRICK / DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE. CLICK HERE FOR LINK
2ND- you can choose an updated/cooked rom. whichever you like and follow the instruction given to flash basically simillar to hard spl.
From what I can work out I need the signed Hard SPL for ROMs which have been 'checked' and unsinged for anything else.
Can anyone shed any light on why I would need to flash a 'radio'?
OK! All of the stock Roms include the radio and most of the cooked Roms include one. But the radio is the software that allows your device to function as a phone/communications device. It is the GSM/GPRS/EDGE/3G/... communicator. So you will definitely want the radio ROM. If the radio is not included in the ROM that you flash, you can always flash the radio ROM by itself afterward (or before).
So did any of you manage to flash a Diamond ROM to MDA Compact?
I'm contemplating grabbing a German MDA unit and trying to flash a Diamond WWE into it.
Any suggestions?
yes it works fine.. as long as you carefully read and follow the steps you will be fine.
My mda compact 4 works well with 1.00.25.07 radio and rom which one you use of personal preference.. need to try a few and see which one you like.
I've just applied HardSPL 1.40 and the TLR Diamond Rom v3 to my UK T-mobile MDA Compact IV, no problems at all.
Applying this seems to have increased the amount of internal main storage to the same as the Diamond. as I understand it, the difference between the Diamond and the compact IV is the internal memory (not the 4Gb).
The Compact IV has 96mb for storage and the Diamond 128mb. This shows up as more like 117mb of usable on mine now i've flashed it, up from about 85mb.
Maybe someone else can confirm there's also increased, or is it a false reading?
The compact IV and diamond are identical. Only the shape is different. The reason why mda has less storage in ram is due to the crap tmobile put on.
flashed my MDA with the latest HTC ROM .. works perfectly .. didnt checked the rom
I'm also considering upgrading my stock UK T-Mobile MDA IV rom and really the only thing I'm worried about is that once done I won't have the correct settings to connect to the internet, etc. Are these settings retained? In other words will I be able to use my phone as normal straight after upgrading the ROM and/or radio?
Those settings are the least of your worries, they can be easily re-added.
Just to clarify, I'm not talking about general internet preferences (like font size, homepage and all that) but the settings t-mobile set for the phone to connect to their network (and GPRS, SMS, 3G network settings). For instance if I go into 'Connections' in the settings it says "T-Mobile Internet...This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified" Will these connection settings be retained after the ROM upgrade?
I also upgraded successfully my MDA with the latest HTC ROM. I used the unsigned HardSPL, with the signed one I did not manage.
After installation the phone asked me if I want to automatically reconfigure the internet access (or something like that), after that the T-Mobile Internet connection was back again. I guess this is a feature of the network/provider and it is not necessary something you need in your ROM.

The Network Connection wizard make that happend, because its in the Rom, so its very handy because its make your networks settings for you! And you can flash a new rom every day if you want
the Wizard make the settings(not your network/provider)

[Q]Vodafone branded HTC Touch Diamond

Hello friendly people!
I got a sweet HTC Touch Diamond this x-mas.
However I want to flash it to MightyRom or Juicy.
The point is, my phone is Vodafone branded and all of you are talking about Telus, Sprint, etc.
I quote from the MightyROM topic:
"Compatibility List: TELUS, Bell, Sprint, Alltel"
Does this mean my phone could crash if I try unlocking and flashing it?
Also, how far can I go without loosing my warranty?
Thank you in advance
You should be asking this in those threads. I myself cant help you cuz im not sure.
Research And if your not sure and dont want to take a risk then DONT DO IT!!
If your comfortable with unlocking your phone and not sure about cooked ROMS. Id recommend installing the official 2.03 ROM that's if you don't have it already since you got if in Dec. But if you don't its a big improvement over the 1.93
As far as warranty. You would be Voiding it rite from the start by unlocking it.
but on the german vodafone-homepage i could only load the 1.97 version.
know somebody when the vodafone rom comes out. i also don't want to loose my warrenty.
could i install the orginal rom from htc??
i don't want to try something with changing the bootloader or so.
(btw: how bad is my english?? )
I just flashed my Vodafone branded HTC Touch Diamond to Duttys!

MDA TOUCH PLUS - WM 6.1/6.5 Upgrade...?

Hi folks!
Sorry - I am a complete novice to ROM upgrades etc...
I have an MDA Touch Plus Mobile with T-Mobile, running Windows Mobile 6.0.
I want to upgrade to WM 6.1 or 6.5, however the HTC website suggest that my phone (via S/N number) is not valid for the 6.1 upgrade...
T-Mobile support is worse than pathetic and offer no advice at all...
Can anyone suggest if it's possible to get the upgrade for my phone and how I would go about it...?
( Remember I'm a novice to Rom upgrades!)
P.S.
Many thanks and aplogies to those guru's out there who have gone through this issue a million times with folk like me...
- As a Db Progress developer I can relate - Give me a Progress DB and I'm happy, give me a car with a broken Altenator and I pass....
Cheers
Ron
First install the Hard SPL boot loader, after that install a custom rom with wether wm6.1 or wm6.5.
Take a deep look http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=404 here.
Everything you need can be found THERE.
Check out the HardSPL thread and then start reading about custom roms.
If you have any questions : read again. If you still have any questions : read again...
