Curiosity - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I was wonder if theres a way that I can get a hold of individual apps. I wanna run a lite rom and just add what Id like. Ive been trying to figure out how to cook roms. If it would be easier to just cook my own. I would appreciate any help there. Thanks alot

look in the wiki for hermes under cab files and you will find most of the programs and tweaks and extras.

Did you bother to search either this site or google?
Distefano's Cab Thread !!!

I did a basic search for cab files on both. I found a lot of stuff I already had.

Try post 2 of this thread.

I can't find the files,i searched all 3DES threads.
Maybe it has been removed.
Well, i really understand using the search function, and that nobody needs to open threads with the very same topic all the time, BUT it's very difficult to find anything right to the point in this forum, because there's a hell of a lot information and threads. Also it seems like a desease or something going around in the forum, if someone's asking a question the next answer ALWAYS is "use the search function". Mind about helping people and just give an answer? Takes you guys another 10 seconds, max.

It's not the cab file that you asked for though. We just have to figure out how to make that 2k7 folder into a cab.
you cant make it into a cab the files have to be cooked into the romas well as editing the default.hv file (thats the reg) this was talked about in the des 3.5 thread so go read it and you will see that its almost impossable to do. just upgrade to a rom that has it in it. i dont see the issue here i have made a lite version of almost every rom there is with out all the extra apps the cooks put in
I totally agree with austinsync, learn how to search! Freak'n A people.
mikechannon even posted a nice sticky SEARCH XDA-Developers Using GOOGLE in the main Hermes forum for those that know not how to search.... of course a lot of folks don't look anywhere but the WM6 forum it would appear.
There is no way that I know of that adding O2K7 as a cab could be stable. I can remove it, but, adding it as a cab is a pita. It would be a very complicated cab, at best, and at worst, be very unstable.
Thanks to you all in this forum.
I found the files and integrated them succefully in the rom and added the fix.
It works like a charm, very fast.
I am using arabic fonts to support installing the i-mate arabic suite.
Now building the exteded rom.
Again thank you all and best regards.
Grow up austinsync and puttingham! Your childish responses are necessary. If nothing else, ignore questions which you think are stupid. When you attack new, ignorant users and use the language you have used in this thread, it not only makes you look pathetic, but you tarnish the image of professionalism and cheapen the talents of the real gurus that have given so much to all.
Yaaa Dr Hafezzz
Plz upload your new rom ,by the way good work , and why cant use the search belive me u have to learn
Hey
I never complained.
He was right,i should search first b4 i open a new thread .
That is why when we search we never find what we want because there are too many un-neccessary threads in the forum

Naked and unaltered kitchens

Hey peeps, I have done some searching and have been unsuccessful in finding what I'm looking for. Essentially, I'm looking for naked kitchen files. Unaltered ROM, SYS, and OEM folders. Am I blind? I find a lot of chef kitchens, but I would like one that is plain with the basics that I can build from scratch. Any chefs have the builds they would mind posting? Thanks guys. I appreciate the work you all do.
the only way to really do it now is to port your own. i dont have the knowledge of doing it or learning so i just use others...
good luck as i would like a bare minimum sys and rom too.
if you go into starbase64 4shared. he has an all in one oem zip file. there is a lot of useful things in that. also you can make your own too. i use a file called OEMizer.

Thanks for the quick reply. This cooking stuff is getting addictive. I recently worked with the AT&T WM6 and stripped the crap out of it. It's super quick and built like I want it. I don't think my wife likes it very much. I'm supposed to be remodeling the house.

When I bought my first PPC, I didn't have a clue on how to mod it, or do any of the cool stuff I saw other people were doing. I read the forums for a good week, and tried to find out all the info I could. Afterwards, I tried a few mods and they worked! There were a couple of times where I couldn't figure something out, THATS when I posted and asked questions that were answered by forum members. You have to do some reading, research & experimentation about things first, you can't just post a general question and expect everyone to spoon-feed you the information. Read a few threads dealing with how to do what you want to do, use the search, and you will see someone has asked the same questions you have now. Download the .CAB files you need, and happy modding!
thanks mate
all i want to know is if i am using the right software i download something name the diamondtf3d i can chage the skin but the skin comes like half way down the screen i guess that because it was design for the diamond which has a small screen so i want to know if there is a version for the blackstone
Depends on the theme. Some themes can be obtained by just replacing manilla files in your Windows folder. Search for instructions in the appropriate theme thread.
Regards,
Carty..
thanks mate
well right now i am using a program name diamond tf3d config and the themes are coming like half way in the screen can some one help me plz
can the diamond TF3D config used to edit/add themes for HTC HD / blackstone? will there be any problem?
Using a Diamond tool on your Blackstone/HD could cause trouble because the screen resolution and size are way different (Blackstone 480x800, Diamond 640x480)

I'm cooking a rom. Read this post for my thoughts...

I've decided to cook a rom. Cooking is such a silly word for it though (sorry but I mean really...)
Now here are my questions...
I've downloaded the 6.5 Kitchen that Josh has created. I'm a little fuddled (used to nsis and VB) so its a little odd thinking of things in a new way.
I want to get down in the dirt of the OS. I want to be able to change things at the very core, but there really is no guideline for 'what is what'. Its easy enough to include certain apps, and not others, but what about how windows functions? Where is the explanation of that?
Lets get this rom going. I'm sure its gonna be great. I'm used to creating large community based software projects (see http://www.mediaengine.org). I'm sure I can really get a good one going.
Please post with assistance on rom creation. I've googled and searched here, but I haven't found anything about what I want to learn.
You can change settings in the rgu files, pretty much the entire registry.
As for getting in and editing dll's and exe's, that's something I still need to learn.

[REQ]Tutorial, how to cook your own ROM (WM6.1/6.5)

Dear cookers on XDA,
I am a kinda rookie on the cooking area. And i would love to make my own ROM with my stuff and etc in it. But its pretty hard with minimum info on the internet. I have searched many times on the internet for a good tutorial how to cook your own rom, or how to edit a rom. Only found 1 pretty good tutorial but it wasnt a perfect one with the needed details.
Now my question is, can somebody make a good tutorial how to edit/make/cook a rom?
With like everything in it, like add/remove your apps/cabs change your splash screen etc. I would realy love that!
I think im not the only one who likes this, a good tutorial about cooking!
So i hope that somebody can make one!
Yours,
Ruubs
(Sorry for my bad english)
The Tutorials exist in this very thread. A simple search would allow you to see them.
Here is one for 6.1.
For 6.5, not really a tutorial but it can get you started HERE
Thank you,
but i allready used that tutorial, and that one is not the best one, much bugs in it. and i also need a tutorial or instructions how to edit an already cooked rom.
and i also used that 6.5 kitchen, its a nice one but the kitchen issnt ready yet. and i cant edit an already cooked rom with it.

not all cooked roms are for edit.
some cookers minimize it so much for performance or ram,
that the roms cant be edit.
and some cookers dont want that other people edits .... why? dont know.

Would you like your work to be ripped off, retagged so someody can pass it as their own?
you got a point, but some people like me, just want their own apps and other crap in it, just made for your own.

In the Diamond ROM development section is a thread 'noob kitchen'.
It started about someone asking for a light ROM and how to add his own stuff, it ended up me and him discovering how to cook and describing the first steps at how to start and the things to do afterwards.
The short answer:
Get a simple kitchen to start with, bebe's own kitchen on platformrebuilder is a good start (visual-kitchen is complete but can be complex if you just start).
Dump a stock rom with it (bebe has excellent example-videos on his forum) and start playing.
With the new rom-unlocker you can dump more existing roms, but it is VERY important to remember the wishes of the original cook. Don't go posting it around.
If you get into the more 'advanced' stuff like porting os-builds a complex kitchen with more tools ready like ervius visual-kitchen is good.

no problem.
if i could make a people happy with a rom that was generated by deleting files/entries here and there or putting files/entries here and there by respecting the syntax, that was finding out by really roots, than is o.k. for me.
if we look back than we have to say that we all marked roms with our names.
only some people, not much, are the really cookers (roots). the most of them stopped their works and change it back to their life (study finished, wife comes back from hospital, but not alone, a small think, i think it called baby
we need people like you describe ... cause changing my name to his name means that their spend time to learn/understand structure and syntax. some new ideas can grown up.
the new kind of kitchens can do seperate languages, xips, roms, syss and oems by using "grafical interface". but when we do a snapshot of this kitchens, you get a better dos-optic by using more mouse for adding/deleting completly folders. no details. enough good for beginners, but a step back for not-beginners. i think, its time to say, that kitchens couldn't be a one-man-project, lets help you and seperate the works. with deep-detail-love.
for beginners i say "respect the search-functions, dont use a specified devicename like diamond touch blablabla. but use htc as devicename for more tips. the cook-rules/syntax are nearly the same for all htc's"
for no-beginners with strong answers i want to say "if you angry to reading a question now for 100 times ... nobody kills you, if you NOT answer!!!"
