Latest/Best ROM? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Which is the latest or best/most stable ROM to use at present?
Currently using Schaps_WM6Pro_WWE_4.20_Full.exe
Any advice welcome
cheers

I'm on Schaps 4.01 and I will change to 4.21 when released if the majority of bugs has been fixed since 4.20.

Any ideas when 4.21 is going to be released?

You know how to bring on the wrath of touchy members! You just wait for the onslaught of "there is no BEST" or "try them all and find out for yourself" oh so helpful answers.
Personally I've been through all the custels Blacks etc and ended up with Schaps 4.2 but have moved Radio from 1.54 to 1.48 to get better battery life, which seem to offer an improvement.

strangely enough, thats actually what I have as well
SPVM3100
Schaps 4.20
Radio 1.48

I'm on Schaps 4.01 still, tried 4.2 but wasn't quite as stable Imo. Using radio 1.48 too as that seems to give me the best reception.

I just updated my radio and it seems ok but I will be going back to work tomorrow and the reception in La. is not so good in port so I will be able to tell if 1.48 gets better reception. I'll get back in a couple of days after testing how far offshore each gets....

Actually Schaps 4.21 already released under Kaiser upgrading so dunno if its works well on TyTN or not . I'm using Schaps 4.01 currently I like it better than 4.20

[BENCHMARK] - LVSW vs. WM Black 1.1 vs. WMXL 0.2

Hi Everyone,
To give xda lovers an idea on the performance characteristics of the most popular 3 WM6 releases, i have just spent the last few hours doing a benchmark using SPB.
The test set up was:
1. OS Flash only
2. No additional Apps after fresh Hard Reset (except SPB Benchmark)
3. Imate Jasjam HT647
4. Main test completed only (no storage card or battery life)
The results speak for themselves (the highest achieving score is marked in red)
EDIT: I forgot the Vanilla ROM. Will update tomorrow, time for sleep, its 5am GMT+10. and only 5 hours sleep in the last 2.75 days.
Thanks,
I know everyone was looking for something like this. Now I know I choose the right OS flavor
Excellent work!!! the dark side wins! wow... maybe I should try it after all
I have a request for all rom cooker and publisher:
PLEASE, once relased a rom, write in the FIRST post:
All possible information about used memory at HR (RAM & Programs).
All reg tweaks included
All external programs installed
Other tweaks like video drivers etc.
All new issues resolved (like VoIP & others)
Someone has done it, someone not. Please post yours cooked rom in this way, so we all can do the right choice, in base at our necessity.
regards
Every time I think I have seen just how resourceful this group is someone comes out of the woodwork and does the yet another thing to surprise me.
(That and a friendly act of one-up-manship )
Many thanks i've been wondering if there was much difference in the speed of the ROMs, now i know. Does any one know how the WM6 ROMs compare to WM5 ROMs speeds?
Yeah - the results do speak for themselves. In my humble opinion, they demonstrate that there is almost nothing to choose between the ROMs in this test because the differences are really tiny. I wonder if you'd even get the same results if you ran the tests a second time?
Thanks for running the tests - interesting stuff!

Sanity! A valuable exercise, but no meaningful difference. Is there en equivalent table for some WM5 ROMS? I keep hearing that WM6 is quicker.
The tables we saw for the different WM5 roms (especially comparing the stock TyTN rom with the south africa and AKU3.3 test roms) were VERY helpfull and the differences were quite noticeable (stability-wise aswell as speed), the WM6 comparisons are all pretty much the same, did the Vanilla rom get a mention at all??
Once we see a full Hermes WM6 rom (from iMate, HTC, Dopod et all) cooked for LVSW,Black or WMXL i predict we may see a noticeable difference from these current ones.
Good thread
What's really frackin kewl about this whole thing is
1. All the roms kick arse.
2. We have a WM6 ROM
3. Have multiple WM6 roms to choose from
4. Start @ 1. and repeat
Don't you just want to laugh! XDA LIVES and it is livin in WM6!
now i personally havent tried any of the wm6, as me and a few others are currently cooking a rom with PTT, i cant go without this feature so i am being patient... I have loaded a few up on my test phone, but havent fully given them a test drive yet... so im not putting anyone or any rom down with this comment, but its something you must realize... fastest doesnt necessarily mean its the most stable. and even if you find one that is stable with your apps doesnt mean its going to be stable for the next guy, its all trial and error
LSVW seems to be the one that runs the most stable without issue and pretty speedy
WM Black runs the fastest, but most unstable for me. Maybe it just the applications I installed having issues. I will works on it again tonight. (After 5 flash......)
WMXL 2.0 has really good features and runs pretty stable too, but somehow it runs slower than other two. A very good custom ROM.
Again, I am not a preofessional give a fair overview. This is just my experience with all 3.

i completely agree with you...i tried all three and lsvw seems to be the most stable
Same OS, the test results didn't show any significant different..........just a little bit.
It will be better and perfect test ,if u compare with WM5.
Thk
Hi guys,
the benchmarks I did last night for the 3 roms were done after a clean HR with no additional hacks patches, hence, as they were release by the chef's.
There isnt a significant difference in speed between the three but you will notice that WMXL has around 20mb of free RAM on a fresh HR as it loads more UI data etc in RAM to provide a faster response (this was checked with SKTOOLS).
It will be interesting to see how these roms compare against an official WM6 hermes ROM if one will ever be released.
Nonetheless, as these roms are cooked, expect to find bugs or undisclosed features. If bugs are found, the chefs will try and resolve them etc. Also remember that even though our HERMES are essentially the same, some ROMS wonts work on som devices, so you might have to see what works for you. luckily my JASJAM is compatible with all the roms posted so far so it is pretty universal.
Enjoy the contributions guys and if you can, please donate the xda-developers for the help it has iven you.
I agree that LSVW ROM is the most stable among 3 WM6 ROMs

Ping Jasjammin, did you do the WM6 v WM% benchmark? Be good to see how they compare on a fresh comparable install

Black Dymond 3.5 giving me very poor battery life any suggestions?

Hi I'm running Black Dymond v3.5
Radio version 1.41.00.10
Protocol version 32.74.7020.18H
And my battery is giving me around 12 hours standby...
There is really bad compated to Windows Mobile 5.
Any suggestions on what I can do?
Or is there a better WM6 image that i can use to give me better battery
life?
Update to black shadow instead?
http://wmblack.info
Hi,
I thought about that. But read Black Shadow gave crap 3G coverage.
I'm on the UK's 3 network and I need 3G for calls..
What do you think? And any news on battery life?
Rather than upgrade the image would updating the Radio version help to RADIO: 1.43.00.00 to save battery life?
Otherwise the image works great...

Whoever posted that really has no idea about how the Hermes works, the ROM has no bearing on reception....the radio stack is responsible for coverage issues. Black Shadow is far superior to dymond as it is very stable and supports the latest SDHC cards as a bonus.
Try updating your radio stack first, give 1.43.00.00 a try.
I'm downloading 1.43 now and see how I get on....
Need to charge the phone though...
I hope it fixes it.... else Black Shadow here i come..
what's up with HTC, release your WM6 image...!!

Telstra Australia Radio Rom

Hey guys,
I just moved from the Netherlands to Australia and I got a contract on the Next G network from Telstra. I am currently running Radio 1.54.00.1 which is not bad, but it can be better I think. I was wondering if there are other people here that are on this network and if you have any recommendations?
Thank a lot

Welcome to the Land of Oz!
Best I've found so far is 1.40.30.00 running with Black RC rom, tried all the others but always end up back here. With a newer rom base 3.61 or 3.62 a newer radio may???? be better, but until I find a better rom than Black RC (haven't yet) this is the radio that seems to give the best all round performance.
i am using htc original based rom (hacked) which i find extremely stable and reliable.
I use 1.43 which is an awesome radio and designed for australias conditions, fast internet, fast lock on, little switching, good reception.
battery is pretty good unless u use hspda a lot ( eg messenger constant 4 2 hours will suck ur battery quicker than talk time)
i updated to 1.54 but it sucked big time and wnt back to stable fast reliable 1.43 never failed me yet.
my recommendation, try this combination.
hey mate,
I use 1.20.31.10 that was the original that came with my handset, i have tried others but this gives me the best reception, batt power and speed. Im in vic.
pdajas
1.48 working great for me. 54 was chewing up a ridiculous amount of battery life!
Another vote for 1.40.30.00 working well on NextG in Melbourne!
Using 1.43 in Melbourne. No problems at all.
Must admit that I havent tried any others so cant say how well it compares with others.
Thaks guys, I'll give your recommendations a go!
Cheers

[Q] WM6.1 that's similar to Schaps'?

It seems that schaps has fallen behind with releasing the latest 6.1 (due to personal things that he has to deal with), and I've been looking to install a new release on my phone. Which version out today comes closest to what schaps had?
I'm currently using Pays v3.05 lite and I would say its pretty close to schaps ROM's.

My clean version is similar to Schaps'. See link here:

I have to say thats a bit unfair. My battery life is much better since I upgraded from WM5 std ROM to Schaps 4.31.
It seems each of us has a different experience and that can be as simple as installed apps location or as random as brand of storage card.
The Chefs put in a lot of effort and to slate a whole series of ROMS from one Chef is unfair and quite probably unjust as I know of several people who are also using Schaps ROMS and experience no such issue.
did you noticed the WM6.1 build number of 4.40 rom by schaps ? is by far the highest ....
Not behind ... just the opposite
Schaps 4.40 - BETA!
Did you noticed, that Schaps 4.40 is not stable BETA version? There are newer and better WM6.1 ROMs. Pays and ShadoW are very good.
I've also been looking for something...waiting for Schaps really. So, should I go Pays?
Faria / Dr Puttingham WM6.1 Collaboration rom
Haven't tried K's or Pays wm6.1 roms but i have to say the Faria/Dr Puttingham collaboration has been my favourite so far.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368317
Currently waiting for their latest release which should be out in a couple of days.
I am waiting for a good Schaps 6.1 ROM as well, but I need something new. I might install 4.3x just to get some touchflo going. I am still on 4.0.
what's the advantage of using wm6.1 over wm6?

Which WM6.1 for T-Mobile UK MDA Vario II..?

Hello All,
I currently have a WM6 T-Mobile UK MDA Vario II and I'm wondering where I can get the v6.1 update that will work with my Hermes?

I have the same phone as you, and any of the WM6.1 roms here will work.
There is no official WM6.1 rom out there.
Follow the FAQ in my sig, flash HardSPL, then pick a rom. (CRC's V13 has been rock solid for me).
Thank you..
Sir... You are a friend indeed! I have since installed the WM6.1 version you have and I must say it's very, very good and stable too (like you said).
Many thanks for getting back to my thread. Your help is very much appreciated..
ps. at last, no more hideous T-Mobile graphics on my phone!
Tmibile mda vario II
I too have this mobile. I have tried around 20 ROMS on this. If you want a full fledged extended ROM for this device use MRH 8.4 sunflower version. If you want a totally naked ROM where you add the softwares later on use 'RBSC V7_CustomNak3d_20753 or PDAVIET V24 Black lite. Both give around 85 mb storage on MDA vario II. MRH will give lot less around 35 - 40 mb but it is fully loaded with all sorts of software including google maps. I vouch that these three work very well with MDA. Schaps ROM are more colourful but slow. CRC is no good. PDAcoerner pro 25 is also a runner up and fully loaded.
My choice is of course MRH 8.4
take your pick.
hmmm..
May I ask why you say CRC is no good..? It seems to work without error on my phone!
Never had any problems with CRC's here, his have always been the best for me!
another vote for CRC
CRC update
In earlier CRC versions I had problems with USB connectivity and wifi dropping frequently. I tested CRC 13 yesterday. It is better and stable no doubt. Even today I have problems with wifi drop with CRC 13. I can not find the reason. I find other ROMs I mentioned earlier to be much faster than CRC ON MY MACHINE. My RADIO is 1.54.30.10 if that has something to do with problems
The MRH 8.4 works smoothly on my machine. However very few post show is as great ROM. It is not even included in the list of great ROMs for some reason.
I would keep testing CRC on and off and it may work great one day.
What do you say about PDAVIET and PDACorner pro latest ROMS on MDA varioII?

MRH 8.4 is CRC V12.7 I think btw
And PDACorners roms have always worked well on my phone, I just dont like the graphics!
crc and mrh
If MRH 8.4 is crc 12.7 then a modified CRC works well for me it seems. However, i read somewhere that there are subtle differences betwwen hermis 100, 200, 300 that may be working well or against a particular ROM.
Well, all the ROM makers are doing great work for us and I am sure all of us are grateful to them.
On the other side Tmobile hardly ever solved my problems and never gave any updates. What was the experiance of other Tmobile MDA vario II users?
