Remapping Home Key For Voice Command - HTC Excalibur

I'm having the same issue with my Excalibur.
I am trying to find a way to remap the Home button when it is held down. It currently runs the Voice Dial/Tag, and I want it to run Voice Command 1.6.
I am currently running HTC_S620_WWE_1.27.405.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship ROM
Voice Command Setup has button assignments Record, App 1, App 2, App 3, App 4, App 5, & App 6. I've tried all of them and none of them seem to work. Through my research I noticed that the record button was the held-down Home key (just as I thought all along...).
So here lies my dillemma: I believe (aka hypothesise) that the Dash - or at least the ROM- has a registry key pre-assigned to the Home key and cannot be over-ridden by an external program. Does anyone know what key this is, or if there is a work around?
Any suggestions?
I also wanted to say, I love you xda-dev because I had minor experience with flashing phones (old Nokia's), and your forums helped me use my first WM phone to it's fullest. from locked & branded to lean-mean all-in-one machine. Much appreciated.

App3 Button assigned my Home Key for Voice Command
Poppa_John,
I was having the same issue, trying to guess which button to use. I selected app3, and my Home button now selects the voice command when I press it down, like the voice tag button used to do. I can also select the voice command when connected via bluetooth through my headset by depressing the button momentarily on the headset itself.
Here's my phone's info.
Windows Mobile 6 Standard
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
CE ROM Version: 5.2.1238.17745

I'm trying to figure out which of these "APP" buttons correspond to the buttons on the phone? Anyone have a diagram or something?

Voice Command 1.6 & Dash Command Button

For those users of Microsoft Voice command on the Excalibur / Dash, I have found that "App 3" can be selected as the command button (selected thorugh voice command setup) and this will configure the home button as the voice command activation button (a long key press is needed). This substitutes the built-in voice dialing capacity with VC 1.6.
"App 6" maps to the end call button which can also be used, but you can no longer use this button as a key lock.

Hmmm... It doesn't work for me
Oh, wait!
It works, only if BT headset is disabled, not connected!
reboot needed
perhaps you need to first reboot. After I rebooted, it worked but I did not try it with my bluetooth was connected.
Now it works all the time. Weird
odd call waiting behavior
At times, when I receive a call waiting, the phone has disconnected my first caller to take the new call. The behavior is erratic and i have wondered if VC was responsible. Have you seen this behavior?
great tip -- it didn't work at first for me either, but after i reset and tried a few more times it worked. thanks.

Voice Command 1.6 button on Dash
I remapped the pink 't' button on the bottom right-hand side of the keyboard to start Voice Command. The pink button previously opened t-zones, which I have no need for. It works perfectly and is easy to find without looking since it's the second to last button in the bottom row.

Black Majik with Cyberon Voice Dial Enchantment

Has anyone gotte the Voice dialer in the Enchantment pack to work correctly under Majik? I've assigned the button as normal and although I can run the application directly from Programs, calling it via the button results in an error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename.
Yes I've gotten it to work correctly. I've map button 5 (press and hold) to Voice Speed Dial.
Hmmm. Did you use the one in Enchantments.zip or the one from the old Shadow archive?
Yes I had the same problem ,I assigned the button (PTT) the quick one and it worked about twice and then the error. I then reassigned it to the push and hold
button and it has worked for me fine ever since about 4 days I will say I also tried that same button combination with Microsoft Voice Command got the same results so I don't think it has anything with the programs.

I also found this bug if you asign PTT button to something it will work fine untill you change another button (or even if you just open the "buttons" program), then you'll have to change PTT button to something else, and change it back to what you want, after that it will work fine untill you change something else again.

[REF] Sky's Remote Record Service on Touch HD

I've always been frustrated that sky have never released remote record for windows mobile, and recently even more frustrated when i noticed they've released an official iphone version!
It's ok to use the java version if you have a keyboard on your phone but i've never managed to log-in using just a touchscreen, until not. Here's how:
Before doing the following make sure you have activated remote record from your sky account.
Firstly download and install AE-Button Plus. Set it up in the following way:
Volume Up:
1: Press Up arrow key
2: Press Left arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Left SoftKey
Volume Down:
1: Press Down arrow key
2: Press Right arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Right SoftKey
Next download and instal the attached file (SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar), it's the java version of sky remote record.
Once it's installed run it and you'll be presented with a login screen. The username field should be highlighted in yellow. Press the volume up key 3 times. Your keyboard should pop up. Enter your username and press ok.
now pres the volume down key once to highlight password then press again 3 times. Now enter your password and press ok. Press the volume up key for a few seconds to login. It should take a few seconds and you'll be logged in to sky's remote record service.
To navigate around it just use the key mappings from above.
Got everything as you detailed......But trying to log in gives "Make sure tyou are connected" I thought logging in would instruct a connection! Connected to the internet and tried again! Same error message. Any suggestions? Ta

Trice,
I had solved this a couple of weeks ago on www.coolsmartphone.com , where it had been discussed for the Kaiser, but could not get it to work simply by mapping the buttons as you mention (Left & Right Soft keys would not work even when mapped in aebutton plus). Had meant to post the solution here, but forgot!!
The built in java did not work for me, so i had to install the java software they provided...and there was a registry key change needed as well.
See http://www.coolsmartphone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13782&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 for my solution, I've posted it below as well.
Firstly, follow the instructions in the original article posted by gears ie. register on the web for sky mobile and download and install the java software and SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar file.
Also register for "Remote Record" via your Sky+ box (instructions on the Sky.com website)
Next, as the HD does not have a hardware keyboard, we need to "spoof" the OS into thinking the HD does have one. This is done in one key in the
registry (which I found completely by accident while looking for a different one!).
Goto... "HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Shell" and change the value of "HasKeyboard" to 1
Soft Reset the phone.
We will then need to map some of the buttons to give us up/down/left/right, Enter and Left/Right Soft keys. As NickMilner suggests above, i use "AE Button Plus" and my mapping instructions assume that's what you will use. (the program does cost but i don't know of any other one that provides double, triple and long press options for each key and appears to work well enough in free/trial mode anyway!)
Map the following in AE Button Plus
Volume Up button: Single press - Volume Up
Double press - Press Up Arrow
Triple press - Press Left Arrow
Long press - Press Left Soft Key
Volume Down Button: Single press - Volume Down
Double press - Press Down Arrow
Triple press - Press Right Arrow
Long press - Press Right Soft Key
Green Phone Button: Single Press - Press Green Button
Double Press - Press Enter
I would have liked to use the Red Phone button, but whatever selection i made, the red button always acted as an "Exit" button in the java app, so I went with the above. It's a bit complicated I know with all those double and triple presses, but IT WORKS and i've soon got used to it. I'm sure you could chose your own combination of presses, but the above ones work.
Well, there you go, see if it works for you (I Bl**dy hope so...this has taken me ages to write!!)

Slightly different key mappings than yours (mine keeps vol up/down on the same keys), but the effect is the same!
I would suggest people try whichever works for them.

I was getting a connection error when i was trying to login while connected to activesync. I disconnected and tried again through 3g and it worked fine. Are you trying to connect through 3g?
I've downloaded the file, SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar.zip - and an app to open it, but I can't actually get it to run? I know it's bound to be something really simple, but can someone tell me what I'm likely to be doing wrong? Thanks.

You have to extract SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar from the zip file. Once you've done that move SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar to your HD and install it using the java client that should already be installed on the HD.
That helped me get a bit further thanks, only now, when I actually try to install it, I get the message, " The archive file (.jar) for /_SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar appears to be corrupt. -36".
Any ideas?
Can you not write a Dpad program to run the Jar program inside it???

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been interested in the above problem for a while. I'm using the Xperia X1 Phone and have recently installed a windows mobile 6.5 rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508057
Previously I was using 6.1 and unable to connect to the application, receiving the message:
'The data connection has failed. Please check the network coverage'
From reading the previous comments and other threads I wasn't the only one. However, after installing the above rom, everything seems to be working perfectly (including remote record). I didn't even have to do any button mapping.
I think the internet config settings applied by my network provider (vodafone) was stopping the application from connecting. Installing the new rom applied default settings and eliminated what was causing the connection problems. I also tried via my WIFI connection, but it wouldn’t connect using this methos.
Hope some of this helps,
MJ
Followed the instructions as per OP, but seem to be struggling with AE Button Plus. I thought I'd mapped the buttons correctly, but they still don't work! Does anyone have any suggestions? (using v 2.6.6)
An update that might help some. I couldn't get AE Button to work with the CAB mentioned in this thread - so no Sky on my mobile! - but a different approach saw me try to access Sky Player using Skyfire ................ and it worked! A little bit fiddly, but useable.

Button remapping question

Alright, so I've tried AEButton plus, and dug around here for 2 days and haven't been able to find a solution.
I'd like to remap the "Home" and "Back" hardware buttons on my T-Mo TP2 to Arrow Down (for the Home) and Ok/Select for the Back. Since neither of those functions are an "application" I don't see how that would work.
A friend of mine wrote an app for the ATT Fuze that allows the PTT button to be visible in the standard button mapping area, but I don't know what the scan codes are for the Home and the Back buttons are. Anyone have an idea?
Otherwise, I'd love an application that actually... you know ... worked.
AEBplus can map to key strokes. I have Volume Up mapped to the Up arrow and Volume Down mapped to down arrow.
So I think you just need to:
* Add Button in AEBPlus
* Press the appropraite hardware button
* Select the new hardware button and edit it (I think you hit enter while it is selected).
* Choose the action as a keypress of Up Arrow or whatever you want.
when I try to add the volume buttons as a remap I just get the volume changed... any solution for that?
When I attempt to remap the Home and Back buttons on my T-Mobile TP2, it fails to map them. I've tried everything.
Volume kind of works, but I want those ... for the volume

Aebutton Plus no longer maps vol keys w stock 6.5
Someone else in this thread is reporting what I'm seeing -
Before the 6.5 upgrade, Aebutton plus would let me remap the volume keys to do nothing on single or double press, then execute the volume change on the third press. I liked this because I've always found that I tend to turn the volume off inadvertently - and not just on this phone.
Now, it won't do this, and I can't disable the single or double press.
I've tried it with simplemode set in registry (one volume control, vs. ring and system) in either setting.
Does anyone have an idea as to what they've changed? I'd really like to be able to put this back the way it was.
try to use the program on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240. This is the one I am using right now to map my home key into start menu button.
Im having the same issue. I need something to remap my buttons in order to scroll up and down and open task manager. I have Sprint TP2 with the 6.5 update and tried AEB already, any solutions?

Remapping hardware keys

Hi,
I have a German htc Touch Pro 2 (from O2) and I am still using the ROM it came with.
After a bit of tweaking, it is working great and there are a few minor tweaks I have not worked out how to do yet even after searching this forum.
1. After previously having the Hermes (Trion) and Artemis (Orbit) phones with lots of programmable keys, I find it a setback to only have one such key on the TP2 (hold call button). I am looking for a way of at least adding the Windows key to the list of programmable buttons (preferably both normal and hold modes). Being able to reprogramme the up/down buttons would be great as well (with hold mode).
2. On the main keyboard, the Ctrl key appears to me to be underused. I would like to use ctrl-T (or ctrl-messaging) as a tab-key - a button sadly omitted on the otherwise excellent keyboard.
Is there a registry hack to do this?
I currently have the hold phone key mapped to "messaging" so that I can easily switch messaging accounts when viewing my email. Holding the Windows key would be used by me to activate Microsoft Voice Command 1.6.
Additionally, I noticed that htc has omitted the Google Maps page on Touch Flow. Can this be hacked back in?
Regards
Peter
Good question
I was looking for this answer myself. So far I haven't found anything, but I'm still looking.
I am in the need of something like that, too.
I have a German-Version of Touch Pro2, everything is standard. The only thing I want this device to do is to type in russian (with the hardware keyboard).
But I guess thats not really your concern, Peter Walker.
However, I would appreciate any help.

You could try the Rhodium Keyboard Controller found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240. It lets you reconfigure all hardware keys.
