Through my recent purchase and aggrevations with the O2/MWG/ XDA Flame (love, hate, need wm6)relationship, it is unlikely the new owners will step up to the plate and release Wm6 or similar fixes to their new to some markets phone.
Calls to O2 appear now to be fruitless, with polite, nothing we can do support responses.
The issues are mainly 2 fold SHDC limitation on some 2GB, cards, and of course everything above 2GB
Issues with BT Radio cut-outs. etc.
These are the same EXACT issues hermes owners had pre-wm6 ROM.
So in my course of whinging, blogs and more whinging, I have a pretty good list of O2 Flamers all interested in sponsoring a ROM fix.
Up to the challange, let me know
digg(dot)this(at)gmail(dot)com
Interested in paying towards such a ROM email me there as well.

We had a chance to peep an "eyes-only" presentation from AT&T with the dirty details on WM6 for current and future devices, with the newly-branded Cingular apparently poised to introduce patches for three of its hottest handsets. The word is that the Treo 750, 8525, and the Blackjack will see downloadable updates released for current owners, and that WM6 will be pre-installed on all devices launched in 2007. In a separate tip, our peeps tell us that the Blackjack update should be in Cingular's hot hands by May 26; with an expected eight week soak period for testing, this could hit by late July this year. We suppose that if the ROMs prove bulletproof, the cheering masses could theoretically get this update sooner, but until then we can only sit and wait. No word on timing for the other two devices, but we are seriously hoping that Blue has its ducks in a row and that they are on an similar schedule.

I don't really care cuz the best roms are from here but still. Apparently all our complaining has not fallen on deaf ears!

Yes, it seems that a couple of people have posted this news today. I guess it is good for the Cingular/AT&T people who do not want to upgrade to the current WM6 rom's here.
And maybe, someone here could use it as base rom once it is released.
At least they are going to upgrade some current devices.

No need to lock, you provided a different view...
I already have WM6 on my 8525 - Cingular needs to release it for my 3525 No but really this is great - this will at least if nothing else ensure we get an official RTM version that we can tinker with
we all knew it was coming -- but until we actually heard from somebody at Samsung or Cing, I couldn't post about it.. but after getting the roadmap yesterday and speaking to a samsung rep -- I just had to post it up
Good news, since the (fairly quiet) news about the updated base for WM6 cooked roms on here will be getting much much better, theyve been great since the first releases but this will help the chefs a hell of alot more.

Don't you know that we've been beta testing the new WM6 ROMs?
Those ROMs were intended to *leaked* for us to test and report errors so they can fix those errors before releasing to the rest of the consumers.
Well, mine runs great so hurry up and release it Cingular. Yes I'm talking to you.

ah its always good to be the bastard step children
does anyone happen to have the cingular wm6 rom that they cant share with me ??? if so discreetly pm me... i am looking for something in particular with this rom....
I had all but given up
I had put my Cingular 8125 in the corner of my office, and decided not to use it at all. I started using a Treo 750, and it was great, so I just stuck with it. Then I upgraded my 8125 to WM6 (LVSW Edition), and now it is finally usable. The 8125 would CONSTANTLY lock up on me with the "official" WM5 ROM, but with WM6 it is rock solid. I now wish someone would leak a Treo 750 WM6 ROM.
(Anxiously waiting for the WM6 ROM)

O2 Asia is about to offer free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the Xda Atom Life! This free update will be available to all current Atom Life users, and will involve either a download from the O2 Web site or a visit to one of its service centers. The upgrade will change the operating system on the Atom Life from Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) Professional.
Since its availability from May 12, the Atom Life will become one of the first commercially-available Windows Mobile products to sport the newer OS. Atom Life handhelds sold in stores from June onwards will also be preloaded with WM6. In comparison, Dopod, which will be acquired by HTC, will be upgrading its selected devices to WM6 in July.
O2 Atom Life will still feature its enhancements, the O2 SMS Plus and O2 MediaPlus. They have been tested on the new OS, and will still be available on the Atom Life after the upgrade. O2 added that they are currently testing WM6 on its upcoming Xda Flame (Specifications) and all of their phones which will be launched in 2007 will be opearting with WM6. The only thing left is to hear about an upgrade for the Xda Zinc and Xda Graphite soon.

Im hopeful, but o2 is generally slow at this type of thing so I would not be to impatient. For my uses WM6 doesn't offer much more either. But its always nice to have the latest...
I found this while googling other sites about the flame.
"Wm5 disapointed but i made the sales person call his friend who works at the o2 shop in hong kong and he said that wm6 will be available in a month. They are still testing it and i will have an update as soon as it is released."
I don't know how realiable this is but who knows.

Dear Jim,
Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
You may wish to be advised that O2 has recently released the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for Xda Atom Life users. Aside from that, O2 Asia currently has no plans of providing WM6 for current models including XDA Flame. You may wish to refer time and again in the near future to www.seeo2.com for further information on the devices with Windows Mobile 6.
Please inform me of any other assistance that you may require. I wish you success in your future endeavours.
Sincerely,

Overall, faster and stable. Better than wm6 838pro. I use spb full keyboard, just as good as a qwert kb. Batteris bad, cannot stand for one day for normal use, also the volumn of speaker is weak that cannot always hear phone rings. hope can improve in near future. I do not need wm6 as no material difference with wm5, I do not use office in pda....
I wouldnt give up just yet fellas, I mean think about how much HTC and Dopod denied they would do WM6 ROM or even a GPS ROM for the trinity, and sure enough eventually both of those were announced etc.
Im just thinking come next month when alot more WM6 Roms roll out, O2 might jump onboard as well, whats the point of having a pretty powerful device, but being too cheap to give consumers a WM6 Rom?

I agree. I'm sure something like this would happen. It's pretty stupid to release such a powerful PDA with an outdated OS...

This is some idiot who is responding from O2.
Today wm6 for zinc has been announced, check out msmobiles / seeo2.com for details.
I think flame is the flagship model of the company and they will surely release wm6 for it.
Reply from O2 Asia Pacific
Dear Flame Users,
I'm using XDA flame and whoever posted that reply tried to discourage Flame users.
Because i got an offical reply from O2 that they are currently testing Flame upgrade and will release soon
i got following message from O2
kindly note that O2 has a policy of testing new software and applications thoroughly to ensure that potential faults and issues are mitigated so that the customer experience and enjoyment of the new device is not affected. I'm using XDA Zinc ... and prior to wm 6.0 launched, I asked O2 about the upcoming wm 6.0 but they answered exactly like the one posted above that they were not providing wm 6.0 for zinc ... but guess what now they have it ...
I guess it is standard answer for someone that asked about availability of wm 6.0 ... i believe wm 6.0 will be available for flame also ... just wait patiently ... after all it is the current flagship of o2 ...
From the information above, some may conlude that O2 would finally release the WM6 rom, just as I do. Actually I think, maybe there're still something imperfect of the WM6 drivers for the indepent graphic card in FLAME, so it is still being tested time and again.
Nowadays, I noticed in a Chinese online shopping website, that they have the unique FLAME to sold with WM6(simplified Chinese edition)!!!
http://auction1.taobao.com/auction/0/item_detail-0db2-7bbf4068423ebb333ff1cd39fb0804c1.jhtml
I wonder where they got it, is that a signal? Oh, the seller also claim that they have a forum which is the official one of O2(www.iio2.com).
NOT ADs! cauz I'm not quite believe that.

I looked around that website-iio2, and found that it is not an official verison, as it is replanted from D900. Amazing! But I guess there is not a proper driver for the independent graphic card in this version.
Having watched the p3300 for sometime now I have become skeptical, (especially now there is a WM6 rom) about it ever supporting high capacity memory cards. Being new, it is very easy for me to do this however, as I am looking at buying a PDA now but will be wanting to use my PDA for mp3/video playback (within a few months) can you see it being likely that the p3300 will support SDHC? I have become easily confused over the threads where there have been debates over if it is firmware related or what not.
Many thanks,
JC
Well the long and short of it is we don't know.
Is there WM6 rom for O2 Flame?
Not yet officially.
I can't wait
I hope that WM6 for Flame comes out soon. Does anyone have any idea when?
O2 Hints at no WM6 for XDA Flame
from

Howdy
I asked O2 about the SDHC issues above 2mb I told them I can use a 2GB Sandisk 100% perfectly but a WM6 fix will normally natively allow larger cards to be used (and why I care) so therefore is WM6 days, weeks, months or years away as I want to buy a few Flames (or alternative) for the office (12) only if SDHC is sorted and the WM5 BT radio issues are fixed i.e. WM6).
What this also seems to say is I might put in a formal fault on my brand new phone as the Bluetooth Radio keeps popping in and out with my brand new car's smart package.
A known issue that was resolved for the Hermes at least with various radio ROM's updates and was a standard fix by WM6. I don't like their answers, but at least they answered
Fingers crossed and contributions forthcoming for you cookers out there, that fix this (I need easy).

Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
With regards to your query above,
We appreciate your interest in our devices.
However, we are sorry to inform you that O2 Asia has not release any news with regards to the launch date and specification of Windows Mobile 6 for O2 Xda Flame yet sad or if there will be WM6 for the flame mad No further news at the moment but in the near future announcement will be made.
From time to time, O2 Asia will provide upgrades of the radio code or upgrades of the operating system, otherwise known as ROM build. (DOH! really *cynic*) These upgrades can mean release of new software, or fixes to certain bugs or limitations. O2 Asia will keep users (login required) informed via our official website (www.seeo2.com) once any upgrades or patches are ready to be released to the public.
And also, kindly note that our engineers have tested the XDA Flame with MicroSD memory cards up to 2GB.
Using a higher capacity (Eg: 4GB / High Speed) memory card with the XDA Flame may possibly cause some conflict. (*yeah doesn't work*)
Kindly note that as these memory card are developed and belong to the 3rd party developer, O2 (Asia) Technical support may not able to provide full support on these software/hardware. Users will have to contact the vendor for more information regarding the compatibility of the software/hardware with the O2 Xda Flame (WM 2005 OS).
**NOTE:-
Sandisk 2G Memory card may have some compatiblility issue, you can actually still purchase Sandisk memory card that are of not 2G. (*but it works so why would I*)
Hope this information is useful. Thank You.

Every one of us, is full aware, that since imate & HTC products being put in the market; we used to download posted upgrades from time to time from the sites of manufacturer.
for examples, the JasJam (or what called hermes), since it was placed in market (about a year ago or more) we haven’t received any claim from imate that an available WM6 is available at their site !! right?! While if we get back in our memory three years ago (to the age of Magician – imate jam ) all magician users knew that a lot of upgrades were posted authentically on imateclub.com
So why this is happen? Why imate or any other manufactures try to hide the authenticated WM6 versions from being posted on their sites?
does that because all posted WM6 as well as TNT, Shape's…etc are all FAKE!! Or in other words COOKED!!, does that means that it is very probable to get incompatibe technical errors for using the above WM6 versions???
For me, I have been using TNT SE WM6 for three months; and no notifications or mistakes reported ….. especially that I'm one of Pocket PCs for 5 years ago!!
So the point is: does our discussion point (which is the stoppage of these manufacturer from posting UPGRADES for users) is that might be as a marketing trick from imate, HTC….whatever!! I mean, that all of us knew how users were longing to use WM6 on their PDA's but at the same time not satisfied to change the set !!! right?
In other words, to do change in SOFTWARE not HARDWARE !! right?
So is it possible that imate or HTC ….etc and other manufacturer of PDA's ((with originally built in Windows Mobile 6)) were afraid from sales fall?
Because posting an authenticated WM6 for PDA's with originally WM5 could affect the users -to an extent- from purchasing the new one (which is originally WM6) ….. does any one thought that way??
I really wish to discuss this together and if someone has any information, please comment
it was kinda hard to read what you said but yea, those are all companies with the purpose of making money, not of making ppl happy
i m confident they would release any requested update if customers would massive ask for them, but if you think of it, it s not like EVERYONE who bought an htc device knows about software updates and such
I think you make a valid point, but who really cares. I would guess that most of the users on this forum who are using cooked roms have tried the official manufactures release, and were less than satisfied.
In many cases, after 1 or 2 generations of OS upgrades, hardware advances and continual price declines make a new phone more appealing to a user than an OS upgrade to a potentially underpowered device.
