I basic newb question about wm6 rom upgrading - P3600 ROM Development

if I upgrade to Karmba_a_6.2_EN-18548, do I lose all my phones network settings?
Or will this just upgrade the OS and leave the orange network settings, and installed programs intact?
Sorry if this is a basic newbie question.
I have he original Orange rom that was kindly listed for backing out if needed, and I understand that my warrenty will be invalid if I brick it and can't back it out.
I love the look of the touchflo cube stuff and how much cooler the WM6 interface looks, and the reports of better performance under WM6, and apparently how Orange won't officially make an upgrade rom.
I just want to outdo my bosses new iPhone

Yes it's a newbie question
If you flash any ROM you will loose EVERITHING
If you flash you will loose warranty
But you always can "downgrade" and get warranty again

Thanks. I knew it had to be asked before.
Just finding where to start was the tricky part.
So much useful stuff from so many knowledgeable people.

have fun with your new toy

Is there a backup solution that allows the operator settings to be backed up?
I installed SettingSaviour but I'm not sure exactley what itsaves?
Does Spritebackup do that?

Dont worry......Karmba has network wizard in his ROM, you can find it in start/settings/connection, so it will automatically detect your network & set everything for you......

That is even better.
Excellent news.
I guess I shall give it a go tonight.

The Auto detect network settings option found in WM6 Roms is "all well and good" but it does miss certain Orange UK customised settings so I would advise that you install this Orange UK Settings CAB v1.6. by rabdo . The file configures default orange custom settings to name but a few.
Description: -Installs Internet and MMS settings for Orange UK
-changes UMTS prefix to 3G when on 3G networks
-fixes voicemail icon
-fixes user agent ID (for orangeworld)
-changes regional settings to UK
-Black-IV-Shadow compliant!!! (contains sdkcerts)
-Adds Pocket IE shortcut to orangeworld

I shall add that to the list of things to add.
I've already backed up with SettingSaviour.
So I guess it is
Unlock
Flash
add the cab for the orange custom operator settings
re-install tomtom
restore the backup I have of data and settings.

I have installed Karmba into my D810, but the new rom unable to retrieve contact from my SIM. Now i force to copy all the Sim contacts to phones inorder to use it.
Any idea how to fix this ?

Edit your registry to change the ShowSim key in HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone to value: 1 (dword) for showing SIM contacts.
You can turn it off by changing the key to 0 (dword).

Well, it is flashed and running and my settings are back.
I had to reflash the radio rom back to a higher one, to get GPS back, but SettingSaviour/Pimbackup and the Orange settings cab did the job.
Still need to work out why Touchflo isn't so sensitive, but minor things.

Thanks for your useful information. But I already copied my SIM contacts to phone, now if i ShowSim the contacts will be duplicated.
Any way i can del all my phone contact ?
I unable to see "select all" in phone contact option.
Thanks again.

Make your X01HT a WM6 Device (for Gaijins)

You just got your X01HT and would like to use the latest WM6 ROM in English with your Softbank account ?
Here is a quick guide, gathering information that has been exchanged and spread accross many threads on this forum (Searches can be fastidious, I know that well...)
I have been reading this forum a lot, keeping on asking questions to everybody, so it's time I contribute a bit to help by describing step by step how I switched my Japanese WM5 Softbank X01HT to a WM6 English device
This post is target at Gaijins who want an English WM6, but still want to be able to use Japanese with it. For a Japanese MUI or ROM, I guess Asukal will probably publish something
***EDIT: for a 100% Japanese ROM, you can now have it here: http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option...um_query=read,40,30486,30597,page=2#msg-30597 ***
I was first willing to cook a ROM including all these, in order to spare some space on my HERMES. I had already cooked an "intermediary" one when Tadzio issued his method to make a "shrinked" OS ROM that would allow you to use the spare space from the ROM
Since this, no point in adding all these mods in my ROM
First: making flashing safe
Download Hard-SPL-V2 from the great Olipro to avoid bricking your device. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Install it
Then, get your ROM.
Download the_passenger ROM shrink version of LVSW 20070320 ROM (More space available) and install it (Read threads about flashing ROMs if you are not familiar with that...)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8YJATBPG
Install the Softbank AP Settings for your internet connection. You really WANT that. Big thanks to itamae without whom we'd be stuck on first of April this year... (Or I'd still be using WM5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031
Now you need a Registry editor
I am used to PHM Regedit. You can find it there for free:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
To map properly your Softbank Keyboard, do the following registry modifications:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty] "Layout"= 30411 (Hexadecimal base)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload] "Default"= e0010411
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1] "Default"= e0010411
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286787&highlight=keyboard+x01HT
To allow the video Call key to appear on your phone keypad, modify the registry as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin] Enabled = 1
Optional: getting rid of useless trayapp (It looks nice... but it Slows down the Hermes and you can replace it with better apps)
Delete TrayApp key from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
Fix the disappearing micro SD (Doesnt really work for mine... But could work for yours...)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPUnloadDelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPWaitIODelay" = dword:8196 (Decimal base)
More details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324
Now time to have your Hermes speak Japanese
Japanese fonts
Use the excellent work from Asukal, that you can find here:
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5.zip
I did have a problem with it: once I executed it, I could not sync with my Exchange server (Quite a pain for my push email account...)
Asukal found the solution: edit the registry, and change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mobem\CE-Star] "MyNLS" = "\windows\wince.nls"
Japanese input
Not using for myself, but these work perfectly (I tried):
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/BagojsINPUT.zip
*** EDIT
If you prefer a Japanese input without the annoying "Floating bar", ie just the same input way as your original WM5 Softbank ROM, just downlaod and install the "MS IME31 J" link from Asukal's page:
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip
*** /EDIT
Silent mode switch
You're going to be missing the Softbank unique way of switching to silent mode (Only available in Softbank ROM)
The way to go around this is by using Vibra
Details available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277811&highlight=vibra
Download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31657&d=1164714506
MMS
Softbank's MMS System is a pain because it's incompatible with "classic" MMS systems...
You can download Softbank's software... But... it's slow, big, bulky, ugly, etc... If you dont mind missing the emoticons, you should go for MMSLite
Regedit, Look for Arcsoft. Delete all references to Arcsoft (Sometimes need to be done in several times, some entries being in use if you have by mistake launched MMS Composer once since your flash of the OS...)
If you dont do these eletions, MMSLite will actually not install...
Downlaod and install MMSLite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33982&d=1170599400
It should work perfectly !
I you have enough courage (And ONLY after having installed Hard-SPL 1.11 !!!), you can try flashing your radio
You dont have to... but the latest 1.38 does seem to grant an improved battery life
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297925
Now you're done, you have a great phone with a faster OS, more storage space, improved battery life, that works perfectly with Softbank AP, can use Softbank proprietary MMS system, and can read and write Japanese
After, there are lots of other things you can do, like mounting your Extended ROM to gain extra space, Unlock the SIM, etc, etc... But it is not the purpose of this thread. Have fun reading the forum, it is well documented in other threads
Have fun !!

you mean to say, sim unlocking is done after the wm6 flash? why would some do that before the flash?
Hello,
The only problem when upgrading is the Japanese input. I used sometimes (so I need it), but I I install Japanese input package you told in your post the I have a really annoying floating bat anywhere, and it's really unnoying.
There is no way to have same kind of input in enlish ROM?

Try Asukal's IME package (see bottom of page):
http://asukal.net/blog/?cat=8&paged=3
... it includes the input method from WM5 (or one extremely similar). I'm using it with WM6 Black Edition 1.2 and have had no problems with input so far.
As for other Japanese/Japan-conversion-related issues:
- I found that when the Japanese wince.nls file is loaded, .NET CF programs crash with a 'PlatformNotSupportedException' error.
- With MMSLite installed, I can receive MMS, but not send.

I actually installed the Japanese ROM you linked to, it works like a charm, but I have a question to SoftBank users :
I'm going to work in Japan soon (1st of April) but I want to use my Hermes as my primary phone, etc. Is it possible to go to a SoftBank shop and tell them basically "Don't ask me how, but this phone is SoftBank-compatible. Now please register it into the SoftBank network and gimme a standard phone subscription. Thanks".
Meaning how can I register my phone (SIM card ? I looked and they seem to have only outrageously expensive SIM cards on loan for 108円 a day, with no 3G connectivity. Or is it possible to get a standard subscription?)?
Thanks for your help

Really? I don't get a floating bar.
Did you try it on a clean installation of WM6, or did you install it after installing the Bagojs IME? Maybe some settings in the registry are causing the bar to appear.
Also, did you set your locale to Japanese in "Control Panel->System->Regional Settings"?

You shouldn't need to install both BagojsIME and Asukal's IME package, just Asukal's. BagojsIME provides an older version of the MS IME.
Use you own phone with SB
You can pick a ZERO Yen phone to do a new contract with SB. Then change the sime card to your onw phone. Suppose you have a sim-unlock phone.

I didnt have to install anything to get the Manner mode working. I think this is implemented in WMXL. But when i set the phone skin security to 1
my phone pad disappears, turns white. Renders unusable. The only fix for me is to set it back to 0.
This might be due to the carrier setting, it happens immediately after running SB external rom carrier info.
Any ideas?

Super Mapple v6 installation issues, japanese

I Need some help with the installation of Super Mapple v6 on my WM6 devie.
I have followed this page:
http://aimakidechi.hp.infoseek.co.jp/jasjar/0050_apps/pocket_mapple_v6.html
I have replaced the MsgStore.dll file in the windows dir.
Installed the MultiByteCab.
But I still get the same error when I run PocketMappleD6. It says: Could not be installed, choose a different location.
And I´ve tried bouth device, and sd card.
Thanx!
Uhm, I think you may be in the wrong place. Perhaps you should contact the software developer?
well, they say that it only works with -> wm2003se. But since people get it to work with WM5, I thought that WM6 also would be possible...
Is there a common way of installing wm2003 programs on wm6?
i have my PocketMappleD7 on my device WM6 OS and it is running fine.
I switched to v7, today, And it works! Tnx
Could you please to tell me where i can get Pocket Mapple V7. Im looking for it. thanks in advance
hope someone can help. i can't find too much english help on pocket mapple setup. i have v7 installed on my X01ht with original softbank rom. for some reason though, the map i have installed (osaka) has blocks and squiggles instead of kanji. is there something i'm missing or didn't install correctly? any chance that it could be the English MUI i have installed that's affecting it?
@swordfishjp - you have to purchase or order the software at any Local japanese electronics shop (ie. LAOX, etc ...)
@shunsai - verify your device Regional Settings is set to Japanese (Japan). the menu path is Start-Settings-System-Regional Settings. Do a Restart the device. and run your application again.

WM5 to WM6

guys i recently bought a dash (dopod c720w GSM sim free is what we get here in India). Will i be able to upgrade it from WM5 to 6. also, in my start/menu screen there is no 2d-3d menu switching option (as has been shown in some reviews). how do i get it..?? all comments welcome...
thanx
nindo
Yes, with one of the flash's posted here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327757
This is one of the best guides to upgrading you can find.
D.
I am also from India and have successfully flashed WM6 to my WM5 Dopod c720w. While the phone is sim free, it is still CID locked. You need to get it CID unlocked first by going to www.imei-check.co.uk. Only after its CID unlocked can you install WM6.
The above posted guide is excellent.
This is my post about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1479203#post1479203
After you upgrade, it will remain on the Windows Mobile screen for quite some time. Don't panic, it just takes a lot of time to configure itself, etc.
After you upgrade to WM6, you will have to change the keyboard settings as the HTC rom's keyboard keys are a bit differen to the Dopod's. It's simple and its posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326683
thanx guys...will try n do it...will come back with the resuts...
by da way abt the 2d-3d menu option..i got the required files from my frend whos got htc s710 (wm6)...but dunno where to install them...the files seem to be workin individually...but when i try to change the settings it doent work...
i ve got the following files: 1) htc3D.dll.409 2) htc3D.exe 3) htc3Dsettings 4) MenuSelect.dll.409...where to paste them...???
There was no 2D/3D menu in my Dopod, neither is it there in the HTC rom. I don't think the files would work off the s710.
the files are working in my phone...in one of the reviews on the net they ve shown this feature in c720w...
there is an .exe file - htc3D which runs but shows all icons as 'messaging'...even the settings work...i mean i can switch from 'windows default' to '3d menu' from the 'htc3Dsettings.exe' file. when i apply 3d and restart the phone the menu systems works in the 3d mode but as mentioned earlier all icons are replaced by 'messaging'. i guess there are 2 '.dll.409' files which have to be pasted into a specific system folder for it show the correct icons in the menu...but i dunno where...???

Telstra WM6.1 Rom?

Hey Folks,
Can Anyone who can cook up a rom please make a Telstra Branded one? one that already has modded registry so we can view foxtel, The Proxy Manager software and all the stuff the other telstra roms have? I think us Aussie Telstra Users would highly appreciate it!
Thanks!
you can set all those things up yourself you know!
And i doubt we should expect a 6.1 telstra/imate rom again considering they dropped the phone before christmas.
ok .. then why dont you post all the reg settings / mods etc?
well mine works cause i hunted down the solutions myself and got them, like you should do instead of expecting someone else to do it for you!
its really not that hard! the vid stuff i got from whirlpool.
Search and ye shall find
Attached is a zip file containing the entire telstra ext-rom, this should contain any of the cabs you need.

Some rom's do support telstra, eg crc's 6.1.
You can "add" the telstra 3g bands manually however to any rom i believe, as I do, eg on tnt's rom I needed to add.
You then need to use the telstra proxy to access the sites etc(my place and such), BUT depending on what you want to do you may need to switch it on/off, very easy to do anyway.
Search for telstra 3g and you will find all info, otherwise use this: Telstra settings for 3g
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all, been down the same road with 3g Telstra.
There is a fix to set up all settings etc fairly easy when flashing with wm6.
1. do your flash...
2. need to edit the bands to allow our phone to use Telstra's frequencys
(see below)
3. run Telstra's own setup cab that they use in the original imate ext_rom
4. just go into settings/phone/band...select "auto" on network type
select "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
thats about it
Works for me everytime I've flashed, get wap when its out of range for 3g and get telstra internet 3g every other time
E=Edge average, 3g=Umts=H on connections
notes:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Telstra "odd" bands (must do some reg exports for next time, and to share), use a reg editor like resco's etc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(taken from XDA site) if anyone else needs them, This Registry patch works for the Hermes.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandT ype]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005
You really just need to add ItemName5 and 6, and ItemValue5 and 6, and change the ItemCount from 4 to 6 (as you added two options) using your favorite Registry Editor.
Do a soft reboot of the phone. Now you can select the NextG option GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. copy the telstra cab onto your phone then run, this sets up the Telstra Wap and Teletra Internet connection, as well as the proxy manager.
It does load some other junk onto the system like telstra bussiness etc , but this is easy to delete or move to another start menu group.
sometimes when setting up email accounts and such you may have to fiddle with the programmes "connect with " network setting and point it to :telstra internet or as in my case use "work" connection.
hope this helps
Fadge
Attached Files Telstra_V5.2.CAB (224.5 KB, 13 views)
you only need the reg fix (if not already enabled) then choose the band then load in the gprs/3g modem settings and the proxy.
that telstra cab loads a tsk and sets the home page to the old wap site, the proxy manager is kind of cute if you are too lazy to load the proxy back in although the only thing you need the proxy for is to use whereis and some of the other crap telstra services.
The proxy will just slow down msn and general internet use.

2. Telstra "odd" bands (must do some reg exports for next time, and to share), use a reg editor like resco's etc

(taken from XDA site) if anyone else needs them, This Registry patch works for the Hermes.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandT ype]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005

3. copy the telstra cab onto your phone then run, this sets up the Telstra Wap and Teletra Internet connection, as well as the proxy manager.

RE:
hey guys, sorry I haven't replied until now, I've been fairly busy with work and the family.
OK Lets say I wanted to cook up a rom myself. Where can I find a clean wm6.1 rom and a kitchen to cook it in? I would have already probably cooked up a rom myself by now but it's hard to find a nice clean ROM and kitchen to use.

What directory in the phone do you copy it to? Is it supposed to recognise it straight away or do you have to execute the file in the phone once you've copied it over??

HTC KeyTouch (Japanese) on Rhodium?

has anybody been able to get the Japanese KeyTouch SIP working on their Rhodium? i'm on an Asian WWE ROM and it's a no go for me. i've heard some people have gotten it working on theirs. can you please share what ROM it's working on and maybe how you got it working?
the program i'm referring to is included in Zgembo's Japanese Advanced IME
<<RESERVED>>
just because...
close but still no cigar.
i can get KeyTouch and emoji working temporarily on my Rhodium. On a fresh install, I first install Softbank MMS, then LetsJapan6 then restart.
After I restart, I install the Advanced IME but no restart after that.
If I do it that way, I can open up Softbank MMS and both English and Japanese prediction work, japanese input works, emoji works, and Japanese keytouch works. only english keypad is doesn't work correctly (outputs numbers only).
but this is temporary. after installing Enable_IME and restarting the system, none of the keyboards work properly anymore.
any help would be kindly appreciated.
i've finally gotten Keytouch working on my Rhodium! but I'm still running into a snag.
when the KeyTouch cab is installed, two of the registry changes it makes are:
Code:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409 > Ime File = compime.dll
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010411 > Ime File = M5ImeMgr.dll
however, after a soft reset, the e0010411 value doesn't stay M5ImeMgr.dll. Rather, after a soft reset, it changes to compime.dll.
it seems like a rather simple issue to resolve. after my rhodium boots up, i input "M5ImeMgr.dll" manually, but so far everytime i reset, it goes right back to "compime.dll". any suggestions?
further research has shown that the e0010411 is simply mimicking whatever values are entered for e0010409. does anyone have any idea why? how can i make these two have separate IMEs?
seems either no one cared, or no one else in japan with a touch pro 2 had this problem, but i think i've finally found a solution. in my previous post, i mentioned that after a soft reset, the e0010411 value doesn't stay M5ImeMgr.dll, but that instead, it changes to whatever value is in Ime File is entered for e0010409. the simple solution (although i don't fully know its ramifications yet) is to just delete the Ime File value of e0010409 altogether. once i deleted that, my "Ime File = M5ImeMgr.dll" value of e0010411 no longer changes with a soft reset.
i hope this will be useful to others in the future... feel free to post any questions in here
did the softbank version come with a qrcode reader and stuff like that? can i flash my sprint cdma with the softbank firmware and somehow get it working on sprint with japanese cell phone features? can it work with the pay by your cellphone feature on japanese trains? or vending machenes??
Now, that WOULD be a cool feature, if anybody knows. I have never heard of this feature on WM phones in Japan. Torou, did you find anything?
not really. and ワ is wa torowa
Ive been using the cab from this thread on my TP2 and it works just fine:
