Strange error - wifi down when I connect Orbit - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Urm, really odd error
Wifi goes down, completely -other pcs cannot see my wireless router- when I sync my WM6 orbit.
This is reproduce-able, every time I connect the Orbit to the laptop. But if I turn off Wifi on the laptop & then sync, no problem -the router is visible to all.
Is this wierd or what??? Any ideas people?

How to activesync by WiFi

Hello,
I can easyly syncronize with USB or Bluetooth.
I've set a WiFi connection to my ADSL router, it works fine, I can scan the LAN (with ScanIP) and see my PC, but no way to sync...
Though Active Sync 3.8 is installed.
Some of you succeeded, what's the magic ? ? ?
Thanks for sharing,

Cool link, added to my Favorites, thnks for shareing that with us
Superb
Excellent, if only everything was explained like this, keep it up!!!!
It was already here...
I had actually found it on this forum a few months ago...
But since I had put it into my favourites I figured it would have taken me about the same time to give it you than to tell you "go and and look for it"!
Glad it helped.

I struggled with this for awhile and could not get it working. The issue was I had was in the PC WINS setting I had left the LMHOSTS Lookup enabled. As soon as I unchecked that and had the Netbios tab checked it synced up. Thanks for the link. Now I can wifi sync.
another gotcha
I read every thread I could find on several forums regarding activesync via wifi and yet I could not get it to work. Then I finally read on a thread that the PPC network card "My network card connects to:"should be set to connect to WORK not The INTERNET. I changed that one setting and bingo, activesync instantly connected via wifi (I already had a partnership created while connected via USB). Of course to have the PPC connect to the Internet via wifi, you have to set it back but that is easy enough to accomplish.

On my SX66, I don't have to change back to "the Internet" to surf; I just leave it set to "Work".
New problem...activesync connects but
Well, I had everything working, now I have a new issue. I can successfully sync via usb and BT connects. When turn off BT and then tell activesync running on the BA to sync, activesync on both the PC and the BA indicate that they are connected (as BT is off and the BA is out of the cradle, it is obvious that they are connected via WiFi at this point). Then the "looking for changes" meter starts advancing and when it gets about 1/3 of the way finished, it just stops. Both the PC and the BA still show connected and activesync still indicates that it is trying. After several minutes of the no more progress, the PC side activesync indicates that there was a synchronization error.
Any ideas. I have uninstalled activesync 3.8 and reinstalled. I have run the outlook repair utility just in case there was something weird with my outlook pst file (it was clean).
Thanks
David
I have this problem too - I find if i soft reset the unit (and sometimes my computer too) then it works fine. anyone got any ideas?
Tried the soft reset ....
I tried the soft reset on the PPC as well as rebooting the PC and still activesync stops progressing during the sync process about 1/3 of the way thru and eventually reports the synchronization error. I have noted that during BT or usb syncing, the process pauses at the same place for just a split second and then zooms thru the remaining 2/3s of the process. It is like activesync is waiting for somekind of a handshake or acknowledgement from the PPC. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Have you tried turning off synchronise 'Files' in the activesync options? sometimes funny files can cause this problem?
Only syncing...
The only things I am trying to sync are my contacts, tasks and calendar. I even tried unchecking even those items so that I was essentially NOT syncing anything but activesync via WiFi still stalls at about 1/3 complete. As I did have WiFi/ActiveSync working for a day or so with NO issues and nothing has changed (or I guess I should say, I changed nothing), this is a real mystery.

PLEASE HELP WITH NETWORK ADAPTERS for Blue Angel

I was attempting to discover what the problem is as far as adding my Blue Angel WM2005 to my home network. I would like to be able to share files between my Pocket PC and other computers in my home in the normal way. Anyways....... I changed a setting within the Settings/Conections/Network Cards, folder. Problem is that I cant remember which adapter it was that I changed. Although my WIFI internet link still seems to work OK. I am totaly unable to connect with my desktop now and obviousley Active Sync wont work at all. Everytime I plug my Pocket PC into its stand. The computer displays a caution symbol in the conections list and says that there is a problem it. I also noticed that the IP adress on the desktop icon for the Pocket PC does not match the one on my Pocket PC.
If anyone knows the correct settings so that the IP adress will yet again be automaticaly detected and a link will establish. So that Active sync will work correctly, could they Please Please post a full and complete list of the settings for both the Desktop PC and my Pocket PC.
Thankyou
following on
Ok well, I still cant get active sync working at all. But my Conections folder on the desktop does at least show a good conection with the pocket PC. As for the WLAN conection to the wierless router, it seems to be a somewhat tempremental and connects ok sometimes and then refuses totaly other times. Also previousley the thing would automaticaly connect to the internet via the WLAN as soon as I enterd a web adress in Pocket Internet Explorer. Now I have to manualy connect the WLAN everytime, even so it only works about 40% of the time.
All this I would like to point out is as a result of me doing somthing in the conections folder on my Pocket PC. Because it all worked perfectly before hand. So I am 100% sure that all is needed is for the settings to be set correctly and it will all work great again.
folow on
I seem to have fixed pretty much all the problems on my WM2005 equiped SPVM200. However It was necesary to Hard boot again and reinstall everything. But the good thing is that now not only do all my netwok adapters work correctly, but the Ring Tones are at a good volume also. The one and only problem I have left is that I still cant get my back light sliders to work and full power on the backlight realy eats the battery. So if anyone has any solutions to that problem, please post them here.
Rob, I am thinking about upgrading my SPV M2000 to the windows pocket 2005 op system. Does this improve the bluetooth system. I currently have problems connecting my SPV to an integrated Bluetooth car kit and wondered i this upgrade would help. I think that I need Bluetooth vers 2.0 and also a sim access profile. Is thids included oin the 2005 op system? You may have guessed that I am new to this!!
Cheers

WIFI - O2 Orbit problems

Hi,
I can conect to my home wi-fi ok and it gets an ip address. i can ping an address but after 30 seconds or so it stops working. it still thinks its connected but cant ping or navigate to any websites
any help greatly apreciated
Hi
I also have a similar problem
I have a 802.11b broadband router (linksys) which works fine with my two wifi PC's and my Wifi XDA Exec to access the Internet and collect e-mail
I just got an XDA Orbit and although it "sees" and connects to the Broadband router it will NOT allow access to the internet or e-mail (apart from one very short half page of ntlworld.com home page on one occasion)
WORST than that - it HANGS the wi-fi router and I have to reset it before I can access the Internet from any other PC's !!
What am I doing WRONG ???
Any suggestions welcomed
just noticed there is another post about this problem
Take a look Here. This worked for me
I originally had trouble connecting to the internet. I connected to my router and added a device registering my Orbit MAC address and the other info required and bingo works a treat. I checked the other link from jamin100, personally didnt have to do this!!
SOLUTION!
Hi @ll..
i had the same Problem..
I connect per WLAN to my accesspoint, then i can open Websites with any Browser.. but after about 30seconds it seems, that the connection is down.
Here i have a solution, that works great at my XDA Orbit
Goto Settings->Connections
Change the Power-Settings of WLAN to Power optimized--> MAX
then the Problem should be solved ;-)
GREAT
This fixed it
Why ???
I should not need extra power - I am 3 feet from the WiFi router ??
XDA Orbit now get hot after 20 mins use onWiFi !!
Hi,
I Am Able To Connect And Browse The Internet At Home Perfectly well However When I Am at University I Try To Connect To The Wifi. It Will Connect but After A Bit It Will Not Load Up Any Pages although It Still Shows I Am Connected! Furthermore my Mate who Has A Mini S And P990i Is Able To Connect And Browse Perfectly.
Another Thing Is That When I Try To Search For Networks It Will Not Show Anything But When I Restart The Orbit It Will Show The Available Wifi!
Finaly I Cant Stop That "Message Sent" Notification, I Have Tried To Do All The Tweaks But Nothing Works
Any Help Will Be Much Appreciated
@eddieorz:
it´s the same at my orbit. it get very hot after some time "online" ;-)
i hope, this will be fixed at the new Update in summer 2007 (WM6)
I know I know, me digging in some old threads.....
Somebody has the solution already???
Thanks again.

PPC is breaking PC WiFi: NOT a muppet post

Guys,
This WiFi problem affects 3 guys in my office, each with different PC's (IBM vs HP) and WM devices (Hermes vs TyTn) and network routers (LinkSys vs others).
It's taken MONTHS to figure out what's going on, but here it is:
- On a non-secured WiFi network, PPC devices can connect to WiFi, their companion PC's connect to WiFi, and activesync works fine between the PPC and PC in every way one could want.
- HOWEVER, on WPA WiFi networks, any PC that has had a PPC device connected to it at any time since the last PC reboot does the following: Network is found and is immediately (5-30 seconds) closed down such that no PC in the office can connect for a few mins, then cycle repeats. ie WPA network is crippled for use by any and all PC's, let alone PPC's. Note that it's the PC's crippling the network, PPC's are all turned off at this stage of the game.
- Provided PPC and PC are not USB activesync'd since last PC reboot, all devices access WPA WiFi network perfectly; the PC's and the PPC's
- A side symptom: PC's list of networks ("View Wireless Networks") will show that you are not connected when you are, and connected when you are not. ie connection status gets inverted.
Clean rebooted PC' all work fine, until someone does a USB activesync and then their PC is screwed and HAS to be rebooted. If they don't reboot, they can go home and their home WPA network will immedaitely collapse as they turn on their PC. Once a PPC has been USB'd to the PC, that PC is screwed no matter where the PPC is, and no matter whether the PPC has wifi turned on or not. We see this when guys come from home (non-secured network) and turn on PC at work, the work WiFi collapses, even tho no PPC is trying to access the network at all.
Once again, different PC's, different PPC's, different WM5/6 PPC ROM's (TyTn WM6 Black, JasJar WM5 AKU 3.5). ALL FAIL ALL THE TIME on a WPA network. We even changed the office router - no better. Besides, we all have different ADSL routers at home.
There are many other Hermes posts where I can see the user is having EXACTLY the same issue, but haven't yet gotten the insight I have from playing with so many devices on so many networks. ie I am not alone...

I've been working on this for months and only now fully understand the issue such that I can avoid it (unsecured networks at home, rebooted PC's after Activesync). Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Wi-Fi Disconnects

Hello,
I have an issue with my TyTN that's been bugging me for some time. I've searched the forum with no avail.
Everytime I connect to my college's wireless network using PEAP authentication (WPA2), the wireless connection is dropped after a couple of minutes. From then on, I can't connect to any wireless network (the list of available wireless networks is empty even though there are access points around me). I have to soft reset to get it working again. I never have this problem with my router at home. The problem is reproduced both using then newest WM6 ROM from HTC and the i-mate/Telstra WM6 ROM.
Anyone can help?
