does anyone know if its possible to unlock your phone to the network 3 in the UK? i mean 3g, or hutchinson 3, www.three.co.uk?
i had my phone unlocked to put orange etc on it but my 3 sim card still doesnt work
anyone?............
The Artemis is a 2.5g phone. 3 is a 3g only network. Older 3 USIM's used to work in 2.5g phones, but that ment you were roaming all the time and incurred a cost to 3, so they clamped down on it, and suspended all accounts that appeared to be permanently roaming and issued out the new USIM cards which just don't work on 2.5g phones.
If you want to be on 3, you need a new phone like the Kaiser or any other UMTS capable HTC device.
thats what i thought oo but i have my new 3 sim working in an unlocked nokia 6230i??? thast why i thought it was still possible somehow

Anyone tried this? My Excalibur is SIM unlocked and works with a selection of non-3 SIMs, but using a PAYG SIM from 3 says SIM not found (or words to that effect). But, the 3 PAYG SIM works fine in my Nokia N95. I notice that the SIM pinout is different (3 has only 6, but Vodafone and tmobile have 8). I confess I didn't realise that there were still 2 types on SIM in circulation 'cos I thought that all SIMs would work in all mobiles (assuming they're unlocked and all that) these days? I am I just being naive?
Yeh I believe the 3 SIM is for 3G phones only. Whereas the other carriers' sims work in 2G and 3G phones.
When there are no 3G cells in range a 3 phone is supposed to revert to T-mobile's 2G network however I guess they decided to prevent 2G phones doing this as it could get expensive for them if too many customers are using the out-sourced network perhaps.
Cheers for the reply. I since also tried it in an unlocked N73 (a phone that 3 sell or used to anyway) and that can't see the SIM either. So, I reckon it's time to call 3 and tell them I have a dud!
The think that gets me is that the SIM is a different layout to all those I've seen before, but the SIM-only deal says "if you want to keep your existing phone, get a SIM-onloy deal and provided the phone is unlocked, you're good to go" (or words to that effect). Hmmm... I'm not so sure.
One final question: I've hunted around for SIM specs but all I can find is a Russian site giving the PIN layouts of a couple of SIMs. But, can someone point me to a site that lists what kind of SIM (pin layout) is used with which kinds of phone?
EDIT:
Ahh - I thought I was getting one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USIM
but I actually got one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RUIM
I have an HTC TouchPro 2 that I bought from T-Mobile here in the US. While I now have an account with T-Mobile, I was able to get this with no contractual committment. I also happen to have an AT&T Fuze with an account at AT&T. Originally, I wanted to move my cell service to T-Mobile, as I can get the same service for about $30-$40 less per month from T-Mobile than I pay AT&T. However, I have discovered that T-Mobile does not have nearly the data network speed that AT&T does. I can get 3G from T-Mobile, but not nearly as widely as I can with my AT&T phone and service. Consequently, I would like to convert the phone to AT&T. I have unlocked the phone, and upon moving the SIM card from the Fuze to the TP2 I can make AT&T calls with my AT&T number, but moving the SIM card doesn't get me connected to the AT&T data network. I finally figured out how to connect, but I can't get 3G to work.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
AT&T and T-Mobile use different 3G frequencies. So your T-Mobile TP2 is not compatible with AT&T 3g frequencies. The best you will get with your AT&T sim in there is EDGE.
Same problem in Oz...
Telstra uses Next-g network - 850Mhz...
Everyone else uses 3G - 900Mhz...
We have the Touchpro 2 Model 7373 (3G) and the 7381 (Next-G)...
Telstra sim in a 7373 variant means edge service but another carrier uses 3G.
Vice Versa in a 7381 model...
Bloody annoying... Should use ALL frequencies, that would be easier, especially as it say 850 - 1800 Mhz on the band page...
Oh, well....
Not exactly what I had hoped to hear. Thanks for the answer. I guess my next step should be to see if there is any hope for T-Mobile to improve their data coverage.
Hi there,
I'm totally confused as to what I need to do to get my Touch Pro 2 (currently activated on Boost CDMA) to work abroad, specifically Canada.
It is flashed with Energy ROM, Reference version.
Do I need to do a Radio flash? Do I need to tweak some settings? Both? Neither?
I'm going to be in Canada for 3 weeks and plan to use either Rogers or Fido's GSM Pay as You Go (already have the SIM cards), or Telus's CDMA Pay as You Go.
I've read the FAQs and generally understand that this is possible -- just not clear the route.
Thanks,
Simmy
The biggest problem with Canada is our carriers don't want people coming in and using their networks without paying for it, and that usually means your first born here.
The hardware problem is, the TP2 will not work on the frequencies in Canada that Telus has used for the HSPA / 4G network. And using the current CDMA network is not possible either because Telus and Bell will not allow you to put branded phones from other companies on the old network and CDMA systems don't use SIM cards. So if your planning on bringing the TP2 up here I think you may be out of luck.
I took the TP2 to Ireland and was able to use the frequencies there on the O2 network, but to do that I had to unlock the phone and as i have the "world edition" with the SIM card slot once unlocked it worked over there no issue, and returned working over here with no SIM card in it. But again this is a frequency issue and telus tells us it won't work.
Now if when you get here, and you plug a sim card in and it does work, please share, because it means we can manually add frequencies and hook to both the old and new network. And some of us with the original unlimited data contracts (no 10 gig cap) would be really happy to know this.
As for Rogers, i can't tell you. I don't know if they have ever had the TP2 and have no clue what frequency they are using for their phones, though i'm sure it's similar.
Flashing the radio does nothing to add radios or affect your ability to connect to the network while abroad. Its usually just done to improve reception and/or battery life.
You will need your phone SIM unlocked. Then, as the post above suggests, either putting in the SIM works, or it doesn't.
Thanks to both of you for your reply.
So the TP2 won't work on any Canadian CDMA networks, but since it also has GSM, if I stick a Rogers or Fido SIM card in it, it *may* work. In fact, I believe it *should* work. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
And thanks for answering my question re: radio ROMs, Redpoint -- that's what I thought, but was still confused about.
So, with respect to unlocking, is the Olipro page that charges 11 pounds / 14 euros / $20 my best/cheapest option? (unfortunately, i can't link to it here because I'm a new member)
Thank muchly,
Simmy
The device should have no trouble connecting to a normal GSM network in Canada. The Canadian GSM networks use the GSM-1900 and GSM-850 bands. The CDMA Rhodiums use a quad band frequency that spans all of 850/900/1800/1900 MHz channels. You should have no problems in Canada. Enjoy your trip.
You do not need to flash a new radio to have it work in Canada.
Yes I am from nooberia not knowing basic information about sim stuff is the normality for me.
I read places the V note 4 is factory unlocked, even tmobile the other day told me that I can use it in their network just not a tmobile note 4 on verizon. so I tried to put in an active sprint sim and well I figured like on the tmobile note 3 I would get a screen asking for the unlock code. Nooooo. LOL booted up like normal except icon at the notification bar says "unrecognized sim"
anyways to use V. Note 4 on sprint network?
I think the problem is with Sprint because Sprints network is not gsm.
Neither is Verizon
My 2 cents on Verizon sim card versatility on other carriers
First post and first up at bat, so let me too proclaim softly that I too am like a citizen of nooberia and a remote village as well metaphorically , but thanks to internet access I recently read that the FCC mandated that Verizon phones that are 4 g LTE capable have gsm sim card compatibility. The FCC allocates a range of bandwidth frequencies to the various carriers which are made accessible through carrier specific sim cards for a mobile phone. Any further clarification and/or corrections on this matter is always sought and appreciated .
Sought out this forum to discover the benefits of rooting a Galaxy Note 4. from those who know much more than I...
I have a kingdom now?
Was wondering if anyone here with a 3 subscription in Ireland or the UK can use data on the 2nd sim when abroad (with the 3 sim in slot 1)? I'm currently a 3 customer and had an LG G4 dual sim phone before and it wasn't possible to use 3G or 4G on the 2nd sim because 3 can't run on 2G or Edge. So the 3 sim always had to have data access enabled.

You can only have data access on one sim at a time. You can switch which sim has the data access but the one with data access will have 4g/3g/2g and the other sim will be 3g/2g. I use EE and Three in mine both are able to get a signal and use calls and texts. EE is the data sim on mine and Three can still make and receive calls and texts.

I used to have this problem with my dual sim HTC M8 - because only one sim could be run in 3G/4G.
Be reassured, I now can run a 3 sim happily as second sim, the OP3 allows the second sim to run in 3G.
Many thanks for the replies! Just wanted to make sure I can use the local sim for data access as the 3 Like Home option is not very good for data speed
