Hi All!
Hope someone can help me with this, I haven't been able to locate any resource for my issue. I have successfully updated my O2 Orbit to WM6, and all works fine.
The only niggling issue that I have is that - there seems to be a delay introduced between the Micro SD card and the phone - let me explain further:
From my understanding - the contact details are stored on my microSD card (The ones I sync to Outlook). Frequently, when I receive an incoming call, the name of the contact will not appear - even though the contact exists on my phone/memory card. If it is a missed call for example, the name appears after the phone stops ringing or sometimes doesn't appear at all - only the number is shown in the last received calls.
This has started only after I upgraded from WM5. Besides this - everything about WM6 is absolutely excellent! Could anyone educate me further as to why I experience this issue?
Many thanks to all in advance!!

Contacts are never stored in the SD card - if they are then you are boung to have Time lag issues. Secondly, this will happen if you have a large amount of contacts in your database. When I say large I mean about 1000++
In my contacts - I have over 300++ and dont face any such issue...What ROM are you using? Maybe you should try re-flashing and see how it goes.
Cheers
Hi!
I have less than 200 contacts. also I am using 3.4.206.2 as the ROM version.
Ideally I wouldnt want to re-flash because of the amount of customization that I have done.... any other suggestions?
sugestion nr 2 will be i think.:
just backup backup your customizations and upgrade
and there restore the customizations.

2 totally separate phones (dash's) one with Rogers and one with stock Tmo WM6. Hard restart all contacts disappear! Since in their infinite wisdom you cant disable the sim contacts from showing, I rely on them STAYING in the phone memory! Anyone else with this issue? It has happened only twice in maybe 4 months, but is very frustrating!
Thanks for any advice!
A hard reset will restore the phone to factory default (no contact list). It's supposed to do that. Keep your contacts synchronized via outlook and activesync.
Sorry, I was lying when I typed hard reset. I yanked the battery so it wasnt exactly a soft reset but I did not do the clear storage either I guess next time it locks up I will be more patient!

You should be syncing your phone with your contact list on your PC or exchange server if you are lucky enough to have one. This is one of the most basic things you can do on a smartphone. What if you lost your phone???
I do sync. But I dont take my computer with me either. So today, all day, I was without contacts. Now they are back caused I sync'd.
I guess we should be telling people that want louder call volume to get a hearing aid and people that want to run another ROM to buy the right phone
backup
I use Sprite Backup for said problem and its golden. Simply make backups of your data on the go and when things happen like say an impossible to stop boot loop or a data error, you can still restore everything.
I guess I am just the kind of person that would rather look at the root of the problem, not the band-aid repair after it happens again. I will look into the backup, but I will probably just carry my spare deactivated sim card so I can transfer stuff back if it fails me again.
So does anyone know a way to KEEP the contacts on the sim, yet hide them from view on the contacts list? It surpirses me that something my 8 year old Nokia does WM6 wont let you do . I have never accidentally lost my sim contacts- but the duplicate thing is annoying
The rogers rom for the htc s621 (dash) allows you to hide sim contacts without a registry edit. goto settings then phone... you'll find it there.
also there is a reg edit for said issue for roms that don't offer this option. I have not personally found a smartphone rom without this option but the regedit is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.
Now you can keep your contacts on your activated SIM.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized Rogers did this!
Found the check box under Settings/Phone/Call Options
This is a culmination of my previous threads. I've realised I'm not going to get an answer to each of my current problems so I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch. Which is just what I needed.
Summary of my problems:
- Speed dial numbers tell me the number doesn't exist, but then calls it anyway
- Can't add new speed dial numbers
- Can't add new contacts full stop
- MSN doesn't work
- Can't sync contacts (or anything for that matter)
So I am going to hard reset - but my problem is I need a way to back up my contacts, I don't want to be manually typing in dozens upon dozens of names and numbers. I have tried PPCPimBackup, but this doesn't seem to back up those stored on my SIM (most of my contacts are on my SIM). I can't find a way to move my contacts to the phone from the SIM - "Save to contacts" in SIM Manager tells me it was successfully added, but it wasn't - there is no Outlook version of that contact.
What can I do about this? Is there a way I can back up my contacts, bearing in mind that syncing doesn't seem to copy them onto my computer and PPCPimBackup only seems to back up Outlook contacts? I do have an SPB Backup of my PIM stuff from when I was on WM5, but that's what has caused this problem, trying to restore it. I have tried searching these forums for other ways to back them up but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Is there a program that can read PIM.vol?
What on earth should I do? Or is physically writing down all my 100+ contacts then typing them in (and losing all my stored SMS) my only option?
Device: O2 XDA Orbit, as out of the box in July, then upgraded to WM6 with the O2 official thing.
Computer: Vista Ultimate x32, Outlook 2007.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but surly if your numbers are on your SIM they shouldn't be effected by a hard reset.
If your worried take the sim out before you try it??
hard reset won't remove anything from your SIM
I'm getting a fair bit of slowdown recently on my MDA Compact lll. For instance, I'll reboot and then find I get very delayed response if I click on something, ( such as contacts, sim card, tomtom, etc) like it's thinking about it and working hard to bring up the information. It can take forever. Sometimes the tomtom logo on the desktop doesn't appear. And sometimes the contact list shows up empty even though the scroll bar is working on the right, so it knows there's a list of contacts but they're invisible until I reboot.
It can take up to 3 reboots before everything is back to normal and responding fast again. I've done several hard resets recently so it's not like it needs formatting. Could something be corrupted? I was thinking maybe corruption of the storage card, but then why would it affect the contacts list which is not on the storage card.
Yet another thread that gets no replies. Seriously, this forum is ****.
Only just seen this..
When monitoring the startup of my XDA Orbit it uses around 85-90% memory for at least a minute until it settles down to 50%.
What contacts software are you using and do you have SPB Pocket Plus installed?

Hi. No contacts software other than the default WM5. I just transferred my 118 phone contacts from my sim card to the phones own contact list. Nope, I don't have SPB Pocket Plus on my phone.
Hi, I have been searching for a solution to this all week so sorry if I've missed something...
I have my TP2 ROM version Euro 1.19.401.1 running the SMS Hotfix.
I was using Sprite Backup ver 6.5.4 build 14 on my Kaiser. When I got the TP2 I used the Sprite Backup saved on my SD Card to move my contacts and IE bookmarks across which seemed to work fine.
All my contacts are there and I can select and dial/sms them with no problems.
However when people call/sms me it doesn't show the contacts name - only the number.
I have discovered that if I go to a contact, edit it and then without changing any details click done it will show me the person who is calling/sms.
I really don't want to have to open and close the hundreds of contacts on my device - does anyone have a work around for this ?
Also - does your TP2 have a lens built into the battery cover - mine came with none (I can put the stylus through the back with no problem) and I'm wondering if this isn't just going to cause it to fill with unmentionables
I read elsewhere that Diamond2 units are also suffering from the caller ID issue, even a hard reset to factory defaults won't help.
As for the lens cover - it's on back of the device and not on the back cover.
Hi all,
for a while back I had a problem with my Desire where it suddenly started asking for my PIN code continuously, loosing connections and all. I did a full reset on the phone then synced it with my PC again (Outlook 2007).
After this I don't know what's happened but all phone numbers that used to be in international format, i.e. +31631231231 turned into numbers like 31631231231, i.e. without the +, and in a number of cases spaces were added, making it look like 31 631231231. Some of these seem to work as they are, but many are giving me error when I try to call the contact or send an sms or so.
In addition I noticed that many of my contacts somehow are doubles, linked to eachother
No idea how this happened or why, anybody who does? And, more importantly, anybody who knows how to solve it?
Cheers

Did I run into a unique problem (again) ?
i would do from scratch, write all contacts down and delete all contacts on phone, and retype them as google contacts.
with over 250 contacts...
What's the advantage with Google contacts over SIM/Phone contacts?
One part of the problem might be that the phone during it's previous installation at some point imported info from Facebook as well I think - sucks.
i feel the pain
advantage is: better sync **** etc.....
