fastest wm6 version - HTC Excalibur

Hi guys, im just trying to figure out which wm6 is the fastest for my T-mo Dash.
Is it the Rogers WM6, HTC generic WM6 or T-mobile's WM6?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Ive tried the tmo6 and rogers. The rogers is way faster to me.

Yeah, without a doubt the Rogers ROM got Superman speed (faster than a speeding bullet).

The HTC rom and Rogers rom are almost identical in speed, but the HTC rom doesnt have the stupid Rogers flash screen and loaded programs as the Rogers rom. Both roms however are way faster than the T-mobile rom

The rogers rom is noticably faster than the HTC rom.

I went from Tmo to HTC to Rogers, and I will say Tmo is by FAR the slowest, but has the most stuff built in too. Live search, Voice commands, etc. HTC and Rogers both seemed equally fast, but the HTC had incorrect key mapping and some other minor things I didnt like. I am now on the Rogers, and it is my favorite. I was able to install Live Search seperately to my storage card, keeping the system memory free. I also used this .CAB file to fix the application unlock that Rogers uses. My only real complaint it is the alpha dialing is gone. I need that fixed! The rest of the stuff is all the same. I immediately change the home screen and layout, as well as the in call screen to suit my taste.
BTW, all my links were found here...on the XDA site. This site ROCKS

I have two S-620. I've tried all the roms. Now I have one Rogers and one RUS rom.
The russian rom is faster ! and better !

HTC's roms are usually the fastest and cleanest which is why I am using it and don't have any problems. I haven't tried Rodgers though so it may well be newer.

Ok now we have:
Rogers = 3
HTC Rus = 1
Tmo = 0
I'll try the HTC Rus because it's more clean that the others.

is the key mapping correct on the rus rom?

Can anyone confirm that the Rogers rom is faster/better/more reliable when using Internet Explorer? I constantly have hangups using tmo wm6, and had the same issues with wm5. Whenever Im loading a webpage that is large, like bestbuy.com or ign.com, I get a script warning: "A scriopt is causing the device to run slowly. If it continues to run, your device may become..." click abort or contiune. Anyone know of any solutions to this PIE script warning?

I was wondering how using a different ROM will affect the use of TMO specific items such as MyFavs? Does it still work, you just do not get the interface on your phone?

Off topic: What about battery life?

I am using Rogers Rom and i like it.. I had TMo Rom it was ok, but had memory leaks and a little sluggish.. I have also used HTC Rom too, which was good too.. so either HTC or Roger's is better than TMO Rom.. hope that helps!

Now I'm using the German version of HTC.. I think it's better than Tmo but is not as fast as I expected.

My battery seems to last all day with the Rodgers ROM with moderate music playing from time to time. I had two bars when I came home if that helps. Usually my T-Mo ROM would be at 1 bar or just dead but back then, I listened to more music on my Dash as I traveled.
JAmerican

I had T-Mobile stock WM6 and it was barely adequate. I went back and forth between the WM5 and WM6 rom several times, before I finally decided to stick with WM6. The deciding factor keeping me on WM6 was that Voice Command 1.6 is included in the T-Mobile WM6 rom.
I ran the HTC rom for a week or so, but Office Mobile and Voice Command weren't in that ROM, so I reverted to the T-Mobile ROM.
I have been using the Rogers ROM for about a week and I am SOLD. I know that it does not have Voice Command, but I am almost willing to shell out $40 to get that functionality back so that I can stick with the Rogers ROM.
Rogers (quick fast, with features, while staying lean)
T-Mobile (features but bloated and slow)
HTC (fast, very lean - too lean on features for me)

I'm with HTC German version and Bestbut.com still show me that a script is causing the device to run slowly ..
I think that bestbuy have to much flash animation and the Dash don't have flash player.

Why Roger's ROM is faster than HTC?
Can anyone tell me why Roger's ROM is faster? Does it unload some built-in features in HTC ROM? Can I unload the component from my HTC ROM by myself ?

Roger's screenshots
Would anyone post some screenshots of Roger's ROM? I want to know how ugly it is.

WM6 Rom Comparisons/Feedback

Hi,
I would like to get some peoples thoughts/feedback on the different WM6 ROMs available.
I have a Dopod 838 Pro and am probably going to flash it purely to see if any extra functionality can be gained out of it & seeing as i have Windows Vista on my Laptop, it seems logical to have WM6 on my XDA
XDA Live & LVSW seem to be looking the most populat of the current flavors around?
Any comments?
I'm actually just flashing the device now with LVSW but was reading some of the posts about XDA Live & it seems tempting...
I guess i may aswell mention i'm also testing out Telstra NextG at work, so anything which will make the radio more responsive & reliable is going to go down well in my books.
If mine goes good, then i might have to do the same for one of the managers at work who has the i-mate jasjam but with the current Telstra ROM on there it is performing like a snail in a sand pit.
All comments appreciated, seeing as i'm the guinea pig at work for most of this stuff.
Thanks.
I tried first LVSW, and run into installation trouble. I got the infamous white screen, and after I made it work, it was really slow. Maybe all my mistake, don't know. I tried than XDA Live 2, and that installed like a charm, and works like a charm, very fast. I am using it since 3 days now, and did not have a single time to soft re-set - and that was necessary with WM5 at least 3 twice a day.
Hi there,
I have notice many users with i-Mate JasJam have upgraded to WM6 Black Edition V1.2.
Anyone have any comments or comparison to the other two?
I am currently own a JasJam with WM5 - this thing runs like a dog and having to soft re-set almost everyday - I am currently considering upgrade to WM6 but really not sure which one to go for.
Any advice would be really appreciated - thanks.

You may have to do that reg hack to enable nextg.. that was the first thing I noticed after flashing a non standard rom.. less band options.. being on plain ole gsm, it didn't bother me.. but that's the only place I've seen mention of it.
I flashed my Dopod 838Pro with Black 1.2 and couldn't be happier. It's really quick, as stable as I noticed WM5 to be, and (being an Aussie) I prefer to have a rom which was cooked here and has carrier settings for here. This was my first experience with flashing a ROM but I only intend to flash again with a later version of the Black ROM. I'd highly recommend it.
I began with the WM6 vanilla and then went to an earlier LSVW ROM. The earlier LSVW took 25 min to flash. I hear newer version takes 40 min to flash. Some have paniced and unpluged their phones temporarily bricking them.
I went back to the vanilla ROM. It takes a little tweaking to get it right but takes only a few minutes to flash. It's also stable. One does have to move the windows office icons around to use MS office.
Remember to SIM and CID unlock your hermes before flashing. Also, you'll have to use the keyboard fix cab for certain hermes versions.

nope...I installed the OS only version and it took about only 6 minutes to install.
you need an 'OS only' rom if you have already flashed the radio to the latest version.
WM6 Black 1.2 is the best IMHO. I used XDA Live for several weeks, but find Black more quicker and more stable, less soft resets etc.
My preference is with the latest LSVW. It has less baggage than WMBE but if you need the functionality of the extra software provided with WMBE then you should chose that.
I think there is not much difference in terms of stability between the two although there has been issues with white screen (more apparent with the LSVW apparently) tho I haven't been cursed with that yet. Most of the instability/compatibility issues lie within the software installed after flashing the OS.
If I'm correct, LSVW has not had the OS version number editted to allow BBC/GOODLINK to work on it but WMBE has. This is not an issue for me since I have no use for these programs.
There is also some more recent additions to the variety of WM6 roms tho they are based on the LSVW version.
I'm looking forwards to Jasjammings WMBE 2.0 which he claims to be based on a final version of WM6. This should be very promising and despite the various added features which I won't need I'll definately be installing.
I was using Vanilla at first, sometimes my TyTN hung up but not too often. Then XDA Live v.10, without any problems. Then I've tried Black Edition v.1.2 but it had issues with SPB Software, sop that was no good for me at all.. Now I'm trying LVSW 2007-03-26, so far so good.. but probably i will flash again to XDA Live v.30 when it's avalaible

Agreed. I installed the New radio out of it, and thats going strong, but i havent tested the full rom.
A SUPER DUPER Rom From Imate & Telstra
A super fine Rom without any call dropouts or hangs. Newest radio delivers optimum performance in connectivity and speed , just the ROM you are looking for ! Though the storage is less ( just 33.73MB ) but on deleting some unwanted games and programs you can push up storage. The details of ROM are : Windows Mobile6 Pro build 18125.0.4.2 ; Rom version 3.62.305.5
Rom date : 6th Nov 2007 ; Radio version : 1.54.30.10 ; Ext Rom : 3.62.305.116. I have been testing the ROM since last 2 Days and found it to be more superior than those cooked ones . It also contains the latest version of MS mobile Office 2007. It also has PV player for razor sharp video playback. Overall who ever has discovered this ROM must be a perfomance freak and not only applications freak.
Great job by sharing this fine ROM !!!!! Also Imate customers can upgrade to this ROM alongwith other users of Hermes 100 series ppcs.
So ugly, it has to be a genuine Telstra upgrade
Installed the new Telstra ROM and it does appear to be official except that it was so boring compared to cooked ROMs I have used from Custel and Black.
My evening got a lot more interesting after I flashed Schapps latest release over the top of the ugly Telstra one.
Of interest was a Telstra 5.5 cab in the extended ROM. Now that it's erased, silly me, I would like to know how to extract it from the installer to share.
i'm also in Australia and want to know more about this ROM. Does anyone know anything......?
I am installing new rom now will have a bit of a play and see how it goes
dont install this if you are in UK,its has weak signal reception and also often disconnect call half way through.now switch back to 1.47

..hey nothing strange there.. caxio does work his magic all the time to bring us here the latest of the stock ROMs available all the time...
Have installed, and it seems stable and quick.
Note if you're not with Telstra (Australia) you'll probably need to change the band settings (GSM 900/1800 and UMTS 850).
I liked the Black roms, except I never got bluetooth issues resolved and it'd crash when answering calls via car kit. I stuck with TNT for a while as bluetooth worked fine, but unhappy it'd randomly crash on me every few days. Not good for a phone used for after-hours support. Most other ROMs would drop ActiveSync connection after just 10 minutes.
So far so good on this one, will add the (very few) apps I'm missing and see how it survives over the week.
I think im going to try and strip some of the stuff out of it, and see how it goes.
So far so good though. Seems nice and quick, stable and good phone connectivity.
I installed this yesterday and so far it's been great.
As others have said, not a lot of storage after installation (with my programs all installed I'm down to about 17 mb free).
Radio seems really good, however if you're in a fringe area it will chew your battery up. In CBD battery usage is very similar to 1.47.
I'm thinking of re-flashing this one and soft-resetting prior to the customisation (which is where most of the bloat comes from). This should improve the memory situation somewhat and as all the customisation cabs are on extented memory I can pick only the ones I need.

Good Stable Rom i dont think there is one!?!

Alright i have tried about every rom on this site now i have had alot of good runs with some but some of them i have bad runs with some now i am going to ask some people...which rom is the best one for Texting and MMS...i would also like it to be fast and stable does anyone know of a rom like it lol
Thanks!
P.S - Some roms would restart on there own I HATE THAT!
I've use this one since it's arrival, and it's fast and reliable.

I find this one incredibly stable, just as long as you don't stupidly add the x-button program on top of what's already there. It'll create a conflict in the software and force a reset.
I don't text, so I'd advise reading through to gauge what other people think.

What RADIO version are you using ?
CRCs ROM
I too have tried every ROM on this board I could find. The one liked the best was CRC's r9.2. It seemed to load the fastest, from the get go. I noticed right away in the screen alignment. Here is the link.

For texting the WM6.1 is a must, with threaded TXT, it's amazing. Like you I am running the AT&T 8525. I had problems with my internet connection, then I updated my radio, here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/73390245/HERM_Radio_Only_1.54.30.10_CustomRUU.zip.html
After that, no problems.
I liked this one the best because it had everything I wanted, Task Manager, Office Mobile, Flashlite, and the auto-network config worked better than others I tried.
It will be this ROM for me, or the Offical ROM from AT&T. I CANNOT wait for his 10.4 release.
Agree CRC's are the go

I agree with this. IMHO CRC's Stable roms have all the features that are required. I have played with many but always come back to his stable versions when I want to use my hermes for work.
Stable and fast
Hi
I have tried most of the roms released here, and just 2 months ago came across DVH roms. This Vietnamese guy is really finding speed and reliability in my Hermes. It is the only roms that didn't mess up no matter what I install. All the others fail sooner or later or they are too slow compared to the roms of this guy

If you are on your 6th one in a month then how do you know they are stable? You dont seem to use them long enough to find out.
Most of the 6.1 roms out there are stable, however you need to follow the rules and flash a carrier rom before flashing. - some require a good radio rom etc.
i saw you posted in binkys 3.9 thread.. well im using that rom and have been using it pre-release and its fine.. no problems what so ever.. so theres something wrong with the way your running your roms.
So far I found Pay's last one to work the best for me. I have kept it longer then any ROM including the stock one so far. I will probably try one of the 6.1 roms again now that they are getting figured out more, but that will be after I come back from Greece.
All I do is text, MMS, make phone calls, and check the weather or check my email from time to time and the best IMHO is the MRH ROMs followed closely by the Binkey11's ROM. The MRH one is my favorite because it has most the features and apps but Binky's is really good for being light and fast. I am bouncing back and forth between them and I like them the most right now.
I am also a HUGE fan of Schaps ROMs so be sure to look for that one here in the next little bit. I would venture to guess it will probably be the benchmark all other WM6.1 ROMs are measured by.

If u flash often, then u know u'r device's feel, behavior, apps, etc. So, it doesn't take that long to evaluate if u'r own device is stable, buggy, quick, slow, etc.
I find most of these cooks roms (from hard work & revised versions) very stable...
This is how to go about?

i believe it has something to do with the storage, and the carrier rom returns the device to the original settings.
CRC's ROM's are the best in my opinion & I think I've tried most of the others.
Been running CRC 10.4 since release with no issues.
I find it's only add-ons or bad CABs that may make them unstable.
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite or Berd's 4.31 SS (=Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite with 3.62 SuperStorage).
Have been running this ROM for months now, zero issues and very very fast.

I dont understand all these roms :(

hi all, if im right then my warrenty on my TP2 finishes in september.
So what im looking to do is stick a new cooked rom on there.
im pi55ed off with my phone because its sooo slow and it keeps failing on me but i dont want to get rid of it really because 99% of my friends either have crackberrys or ipoones and i want to be different.
i am a complete n00b with all the techy stuff like tweeking the phone.
I have a few questions for people with cooked roms
1 - what sort of memory does your rom run at?
2 - how long does your battery last and on what type of usage?
3 - do you need to keep doing soft re-sets?
4 - is your new rom quick and reliable?
5 - are all the features quick and realiable such as bluetooth?
i think thats it for now, i will start looking into the roms more from now on so i can hopefully just do it once and do it right the first time.
however if there are any chefs in london who are willing to build me a complete custom rom then PM me and we will discuss it further about the rom and pricing for your time ect...
THANKS in advance!!
1. The memory of some chef's ROMs can run as low as 40% on startup, moving up to about 50-60%. It depends. Look for the "lite" or "clean" ROMs for better memory.
2. The battery lasts me all day, heavy use through texting, phone calls, and internet. Using GPS, I'd imagine your battery would die fast, and phone calls don't seem to last longer than 3 hours before needing to be recharged.
3. Sadly, soft resets are needed for almost every WinMo device. That's the downside of all WinMo devices, though on the plus side, you get infinite customizability.
4. One of the most reliable ROMs with the most features is Valkyrie's ROM by Agent_47. I'm honestly no fanboy, but I have tried everyone else's ROMs, normal version, not lite or clean, and they all lack, or are crippled.
5. I don't use bluetooth, but wifi, phone signal, and GPS signal depend really on what radio you use. The different radios can be found in the ROM section. I use the most current one, .77, and I get good strength on all of the above.
thanks for the info, heres a bit more about my phone and its uage atm...
on the stock rom im using with using cleanram my phone runs around 60% - 70% but startup is just over 40%
Also i found my battery lasted 2 days when i had a 2gb card and now just over a day if im lucky with the 8gb card, so i may change it for a 4gb card which should be enough space for me.
Well, some clean and lite ROMs have as much as 80 MB free at start up (meaning, I believe that you would only have 20% on startup; any members can correct me if I'm wrong). I have only had 40% at most at startup, because I use feature packed ROMs.
I don't know anything about the SD card using more phone power, but you can give the 4 GB card a try. I get over 2 days on minimum usage with an 8 GB SD card. With max usage, as I said, I get about a full days use, with around 40-50% of battery life left.
also if anyone is local to me and wouldnt mind letting me have a quick play with there tp2 with a cooked rom to see how different it is to stock then please PM me
i went into a vodafone store today to double check about my warrenty, but after the 12 months manufacturer warrenty is over then vodafone have their own warrenty to cover the phone untill my contract is over.
now i know this im unsure if i should flash my rom now incase i do have anymore problems with the phone ??
what do you all suggest?
Just do the flash and get it over with You only have ONE first flash and then after that everything wont be as stressfull..
Also.. if you want to see what custom roms look like running on the phone just search for some custom roms on youtube. I'm sure you'll see some there. You'd get a more thurough view of what they do then if you were just bumbling around with it for 5 minutes on your own.
fair enough, i need to get my compuuter working then i guess to flash it!!

Because custom ROM's don't have the critical "signature" that can only come from the manufacturer or carriers themselves. The stock SPL won't allow ROM's that don't have that signature, so that's why you have to replace SPL with a custom one when you want to flash ROM's issued by anybody than the carriers or HTC.
Sorry for the threadjack... but i was wondering the same things as the topic starter...
May i just add a few more questions?
*Roms like Energy, do they support BT and GPS?
*Is the problem with the sms lag (phone not waking on receiving) solved by a cooked rom?
*What are the major drawbacks when switching for standard to cooked? Ok the waranty is cancelled but anymore?
*I have a WWE version with WM6.5 ==> can i only install rom for 6.5 or can i install roms based on 6.1?

I don't know about two cabs to make it run faster, but there's two that will help with the memory management and help keep more of it free for you, is that what you're thinking about? They're called the SSK Dynamic Resource Proxy cab and the no push internet cab.
I recently flashed deepshining x7 rom and I can't believe I waited so long. My TP2 feels faster and I love all the options available such as Cookie's home tabe editor and the such. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you flash. You can always flash back to the original if you don't like it.

You bet! And yeah, these are the first two cabs I recommend all new Rhodium owners run...I don't know if they'll clear up all your issues, but you should at least see a significant change in available RAM.
Ive just put them onto my phone and doing a soft reset!
Ive also changed to the windows today menu last night and its running a bit better with that!!

Slow performance after WM6.5 upgrade

Hi, I have a Verzion TP2 and finally took the plunge to do the VZW WM6.5 upgrade.
Bad decision! I'm experiencing really slow performance and reduced battery life.
I like some of the new features, but the slow performance is not acceptable.
Anyone have any good advice for speeding things up? I know disabling sense UI will help, but then it would just be another crappy WM UI phone.
I did some searching here and wasn't able to find much. (Admittedly I didn't spent tons of time looking.)
Help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Just put a custom rom on your phone and most of your problems are solved. And believe me, you never want to go back to stock.
THanks for the info. Not certain that I want to go away from stock because my carrier (Verizon) may get quite cranky & not want to support me or service my phone if something goes wrong.
I have an unbranded European version of the phone on the UK Vodafone network, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. But I thought I would offer some advice based on my own experiences.
Firstly I assume the version of WM6.5 you upgraded to is the Sense 2.1 version and not Sense 2.5? I remember when I first upgraded I immediately noticed a big slowdown in comparison to the WM6.1 version which flew. If it's any help, you'll soon learn to live with the slowdown and eventually it will become "normal" and it's only when you downgrade you'll realise the difference.
In terms of speeding up the device there is not much you can do, apart from reduce the ram usage. There are a couple of cabs which significantly lower the ram usage.

Secondly you might want to install an app called "memmaid" or "sktools" and disable certain processes and apps from starting up. Admittedly I don't really know what most of these processes do, but I've generally found these ones are ok to disable:
certenroll
notificationmanager
htcsipsrvc
gpsprivacy
softwaredisable
htcservices
dtpt
sqmupload
btagsvc
ssw
ussd
htcap
The same goes for startup applications where I have found these are ok to disable. (ignore the apps that are not installed on your device)
poutlook
speedbmonitor
delwmptempfolder
htcstartup
pkg
spbmobileshell (I have a switcher between this and Sense interface so dont need it on startup)
memmaidtweaks
superstarter.exe
Also, I remember seeing certain apps u can download from here that strip certain branded roms of all the bloatware. As my Touch Pro 2 is not branded, I've never used one and don't have any knowledge on them. But I'm sure someone on here will gladly point you in the right direction for a Verizon one. (If it indeed exists)
You might also want to install "advancedconfig" where you can tweak certain things in your phone to speed it up a bit.
I realise you don't want to go down the custom rom route, but unfortunately it may the only way to achieve what you want. I've now customised my official WM6.5 Sense 2.1 rom to how I want it (whilst waiting for my upgrade so I can switch to something like the HTC Desire on Android) and therefore don't use a custom rom, but I've tested the vast majority of the custom roms and I'm sure you'll find something you like. In your case, I'd suggest a hybrid of WM6.1 with the Sense 2.5 interface. If you can get your head around the lack of smooth scrolling in certain apps and what-not, you'll find a nice balance of speed and a very pretty sense 2.5 interface. (I personally couldn't get my head around it haha!)
I'd very much like to use a custom rom as I quite like Sense 2.5, but there was always a problem with the text message app. Be it the very slow "HTC Messaging" or the problem with the unread count after disabling it. I haven't tried a custom rom in a few months now so I'm not sure if this has been resolved. If so, can someone please let me know as I can't keep hard resetting my phone to test.
Anywayz good luck, and I hope this helped a bit. I don't come on this site too often but I will bookmark this page and try and remember to check it so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks fade to black for your well laid out response.
I am also waiting to upgrade to the Desire next month but I am not sure I want to get rid of my Touch pro 2. I am so used to the hardware keyboard plus even though I would have had the phone for 1 year by 30 July, it looks brand new. Carrying 2 smartphones about is not an option for me. I have also just had the screen replaced under warranty after it developed newton rings. HTC returned the phone with the latest WM6.5 i.e. with Sense 2.5 and it seems very smooth. No crashes or nothing since I have had it back about a week now.
You're very lucky then as I still have a year left on my contract :-( Lol..
Yeah losing the hardware keyboard is a bit worrying, but i've not had the HTC Wizard, then the Kaiser, and then the Touch Pro 2. So to be honest I'm quite looking forward to a "thin" device for once. Hopefully will be able to get used to the onscreen keyboard.
You could always try waiting a few more months until HTC release an android device with a keyboard? Tbh it's quite surprising how they haven't already.
@Fade2Black101 Thanks for the suggestions! I have begun looking at things and immediately went for disabling the push internet because my memory is a bit tight. Well, instead of installing the CAB file I went in to manually edit the registry and found that it was not enabled in my ROM. :-(
I'm going to try some of the other stuf you suggested, but have not had time as of yet.
I probably shouldn't be, but I am shocked that Verizon released an update that brings the phone to it's knees in terms of performance.
was there a noticable difference in ram usage after editing the push setting? I remember when I tried doing it manually and it didnt have the same effect as installing the cab. So unless you noticed a big change, i'd suggest using the cab.
I don't have Verizon, but, if the rom's out there for Verizon are like the GSM ones, you can probably download the "stock" Verizon Rom, in case you need warranty service. Just flash back to the stock version before returning it.
Of course, if you phone is unbootable, then, you're pretty much screwed

I checked the registry and the settings weren't even there except for one and it was set to disabled. Also when I check the task manager under processes, opera isn't there. So I'm pretty sure that push internet is not running on my phone.
