Does anyone know haw to add the GPRS disconnect button??? - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

It seems like no one knows or no one is willing to share the ref hack to enable the disconnect button in the balloon when you are connected to net, the only rom ive seen that has this button is Toms B&B roms, so i know it is possible.

This works in my Rom NewArtemis 2.3
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Phone]
"Flags2"=dword:00000008

Press red key for about 8 secs (works on official release), no need of the disconnect button

That reg hack doesnt work

NewArtemis 2.3?!

Fracoon, please, share your new rom with us!
(And I noticed too that nowadays you appear very rarely here...)
Best regards,

hi,
if you want to automatically stop edge connection (web and email) after 1 minute, try phone alarm, there is an option on advanced menu that turns off automatically data connection,

Do most people close their GPRS connection, or leave it open?
Is it correct that you only have to pay for downloaded data? So you can leave it open all the time at no cost?
What are the advantages of shutting down the GPRS conection every time?
Thanks

It depends on the mobile provider and your contract with it, but yes, in most cases you pay only for the down- and uploaded data.

The advantage is prolonged battery life! The phone, with GPRS open, eats more energy.
And regarding the original question:
If you have SKTools (very useful prog) go to 'Tune Up!' menu item, go to 'Phone edition' and there you will find the possibility to create a Disconnect button for your bubble.
Good luck!

so it's normal that the data connections stays open until a manul stop happens?
no way to avoid this problem without installing 3rd parts software?

Turn off GPRS

Anyone know how to turn the GPRS off so that it never comes on?
What you need is this ......... creates an icon called No Data, with it you can toggle on and off your GPRS, I've been using for a while and it is excellent, stops GPRS connections altogether until you want it...
Activesync it somewhere on your orbit and then click on it within File Explorer
Ah! Stew! Saviour! A million thanks... exactly what I was looking for...
Why?
Hi
Why turn GPS totally off? does it use more battery when your not using it?
MicTh
Hi there MicTh...
I'm with O2 and their data tarrifs are somewhat expensive.
I use wifi a lot so don't need GPRS. There has been the odd occasion where I've lost wifi signal and the phone started connecting with GPRS...
The above program put a stop to this!
SG
Ohhh.. stupid me :O)
I thought u were talkin about turning GPS off.... My bad
thanks i have also been looking for app like this

This can be done easily by:
Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks->(in the first ComboBox) select "My Work Network" and click OK
No GPRS does it much simpler, simply toggling between on and off....GPRS can sometimes connect on demand, the phones demand not yours when receiving messages or when Quick GOS has become outdated, NO GPRS is the simplest solution I've found.......
Thanks - I've installed this - one question
I have disabled Mobile Web and O2 Active
Will I still receive MMS messages ???

Copy it to you memory card and run the program. It will install itself.

thanks for your help ive got it sorted
now ive installed it and i click on the nodata icon it shows gprs as deactivated but if im usin wifii it says connecting to gprs is that normal or have i done something wrong.
also if it says connecting to gprs while nodata is installed does it still run up the bill, orbit is all new to me so im still trying to find my way around it im used to normal phone.
Hi,
just a question on this wifi-gprs. Is there a way to include a priority on one of the two?
I would like my phone to connect through wifi is it finds free or known connections, otherwise it should use wifi.
Anybody know of a setting to get this done?
Patrick
I have a Hermes and I can stop my GPRS connection instantly.
Please try this (also on other HTC models)...
When you still have a GPRS connection press and hold down the hangup button for 3 to 6 secs. (the red phone you use the end a phonecall) until the little GPRS icon disappears.
GPRS as a service will stay available.
Hi.
I'm sorry but I am having a noobie moment.
I have transferred the 3 NOGPRS files into My Music (cos I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it) and clicked on the "setup" file which opens revealing lines of code. But that's it, how do I install it? Where do I find the icon?
Sorry, this might seem basic to you but it is very complicated and difficult to understand for me.

Looking for an app to initiate and stop a 3G Connection

Hello,
I'm using schap's WM6 ROM 3.30a
I was wondering if someone knows an app to initiate a 3G/GPRS/EDGE connection.
I use radio streaming programs that don't initiate the connection by themselves. So I would love that kind of button to connect/disconnect easily from my 3G ISP.
If you think it's possible...
Thanks !

Schap's CommManager has a button to do this
I've downloaded schap's comm manager ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310650 ), but I don't see any button to do that. There is a button to switch between 2G and 3G. But I dont' see a button to start or stop the connection.
Thanks
How about BandSwitch...

As I understand you want a way to disconnect a 3G connection... right?
If so, you want something like the HTCustom Tweak Application... it allows you to display the GPRS/3G Disconnect and Timer option!

It's the 4th button down on the right - looks like a computer with a globe behind it - press that and then 'connect' on the left softkey (under network connection it should show your default 3G connection)

The left and right softkeys are the buttons on the bottom of the screen which also have hardware buttons below them
does the button I mentioned in the comm manager not work for you?
sorry I found it out.
But I would prefer something faster, with one click only
First off this has nothing to do with WM6... second all of the tweak apps have a setting for connection always on! and the option to show a dissconnect button on the top! third in most commangers there is a data connection button that you simply tap and turn the data on and off... searching the forum would have been a much easier way to find your answer it seems that people love to be spoon feed around here and are not willing to go through the trial and error that real devs do to get what they want. until senior member stop feeding into this the problem will never stop. I know everyone wants to be a nice guy but damn if we don't stop this no we might as well change the name to HoFo2...

My first thought would be to look at a program called 'mortscript' in which you can create scripts and attach them to shortcuts or hardware buttons. You can do just about anything with these scripts so is probably your best bet for a 1-click option
Be happy with what is out there. If you feel you want something faster and one click, you might be better off writting your own apps to fit your needs.

Sorry for Hijacking this thread.
After I got the WM6 image on my device I lack the button / link for initiating the 3G/UMTS-Connection (before I was able to click on the "U" (="3G") logo in the menubar, and the Connectivity-Bubble gave me the option to initiate the data-connection. With the new image it only shows me a text that "there are no data-connections active. If necessary applications will initiate a connection. Go into "Settings" to change your connection settings." (Freely translated from the german version)
Anybody know how I can get them back? I'm aware of the reg-hack to get the disconnect-button in HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2, what are the settings of Flag2 and Flag of people who are able to initiate the connection from the menu bar?
TIA, Ulf
PhoneAlarm can include a button to initiate or stop a data connection (as well as BT or WiFi buttons), with one click. It's also an awesome program for other reasons if you haven't used it yet.
Hi!
I live in Europe and flashed the Dopod rom..
The thing is, ever since the upgrade when I connect to (mobile) internet, it doesn't show the UMTS sign, but the Edge/3g sign. Internet is a lot slower than before as well.
Does this have anything to do with the fact I get an error when I boot saying it's for Asia only, or do I need to do something to connect to the UMTS network?

can wifi be always on ?

i'm using wm6 bepe 0.76 with radio 1.46
i was just wondering if there is a way to keep the wifi connection always on (mainly to keep skype always connected)
is it possible guys ?
Sure but it eats you power, and borthers you when new AP are detected... if you can live with this no prob...
Personally I switch it off when I go out and switch it on when I arrive at home or office...

You can change your power settings to never let your device go automatically into standby mode which would allow the wifi to stay connected. I wouldn't recommend this unless you have it plugged into the power supply because the battery won't last the whole day with wifi always activated.

thanks so much !
searching for the prog right NOW !
A little late but someone maybe finds it usefull, no need for programs, all you have to do is this:
The solution to have "always on" wi-fi, is applying three registry hacks. Please note that you must apply all three registry edits and soft reset your device before this takes effect. If you're looking for a free and reliable registry editor for your Windows Mobile device, you can take a look at the PHM Registry Editor.
The necessary registry edits are:
1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} - change to 1
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} change to 1
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} change to 1
Now the wi-fi connection will stay on even while your device is suspended. Remember that you'll have to re-enable the wi-fi connection if you soft-reset your device, though.
Tested and it works!

Auto disconnect GPRS/WiFi when not in use?

Hi!
Is there something that could auto disconnect GPRS/WiFi, lets say after 10 min, if it wasn't used?
I wanted setup to check for new mail every 2 hours, and it connects to GPRS and then it stays connected forever, draining the battery without purpose...
Thank you.
I found one for WM5, and not sure if it will work for WM6...

Yes, this is the first and I must add the most annoying thing that I've experienced in WM6 (never had this in WM5), especially when you don't have unlimited data plan - that reconnection is just ridiculous.
It actually made me go back to WM5 for a while, until I decided give WM6 another chance. Hopefully I was able pinpoint what make it connect all the time - Windows Live service, specifically Windows Live Messenger. Basically you have to manually logout from the messenger before you close it, otherwise it will just minimize itself when you thought you closed it.
Or just don't use it...
@Sane:
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't use Outlook and that app is pretty much useless for me, but sure it might be useful for others.
Speaking of Outlook, is there another good alternative to it which we could use to manage contacts? (not necessarily use it to sync with WM6 contacts directly, but perhaps be able export them to another format that later could be imported in WM6)
I've tryed NSContacts which is pretty good, if you can remmember all the time how to avoid some very nasty bugs in it that could make your 1 hour organizing contact be waste of time and you have to start over.
the best options
bandswitch or commgrpro by dan herrerra.
commmgrpro.com
these are both excellent.

this program is not working on my HTC P3600 with WM6.1...
have someone encountered the same problem?
try reading this : http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2008/03/19/auto-disconnect-gprs-on-ppc.html

Very very simple question. ANSWER???

I've been using two PRophets and my last adquisition was a Trinity (Qtek S300) - HTC 3600.
The magic question is:
Is there any WM6 ROM (including originals...) that let me USE EMAILS, AND USER PASSWORD without loosing it after a soft reset?
How can everybody uses WM6 with these GREAT bugs?
I don't understand....
Thank you early.
Disappearing wifi and email accounts is a wm6 issue there's some thread about it,just use the search feature.
Thank you, i use to use search as much as you can imagine. No clear response to this problem anywhere. Give me an example.
Examples: Wm6 issue (just take a look.. Nothin related directly. so much ****)
WM6 Bugs--> Nothing.
Maybe i don't know how to search...
So, finally (for future people who use SEARCH...):
Is this a bug, and there is no solution. We have to **** up with it, dont we?
Nothin related directly. so much ****???
Come on give me a break.
Let's see if this helps you:

[!] For prevent password and account dissapearing u should (you should make this procedure immidiatly after first soft reset ):
1. Set up your connection settings
2. Open IExplorer / Set up Ineternet connection / Open some internet page
3. Click Disconnect button to close internet connection
4. Hold power button and turn off your phone
5. Power on your phone.
After that procedure your password wont dissapear. I think that you should repeat the same for mail account (set up mail account / try to send or recieve your mail / hold disconnect button / turn off your phone)
Thanks to mun_rus
Yes. trought your first search link i founded that.
I'm gonna flash just now and try it. It'll impress me. After so many months... a solution
Sorry dude i'm bad tempered.
Thank you.

Dont know with CIDs devices, on my Triny that never hapens to me, I m using now Mary 3.6 and is working fine...
I personally never encountered any problem with disappearing stuff after poking the reset hole on my non-SuperCID Trinity - but then it's actually quite seldom for me to poke that hole anyway since the cooks here produce quality roms. When I need reset, I usually did it the soft way.
THE solution !

My solution:
1. Always use power off->on reset
2. NEVER use hardware reset (stylus reset or remove battery)
3. If some installation program asks you to reboot, ALWAYS say NO, and power off->on yourself
4. If your Trinity halts for some reason (maybe ATI video chip bug), and the power off button does not work, just bind the Button 1 (Hold) to <Soft-Reset>. It always WORKS!
And you settings are there after.
I just used to live with this bug.
Maybe gurus can help with this issue, maybe not, maybe it's hardware malfunction, and it's time to change HTC to some other brand
