Can't uninstall many programs - what am I missing here? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hey everyone - I've had my Hermes for around a month now, and this forum has made it so much more fun than it would have been otherwise.
In the past, I've run VP3G's 2.0, 3.0, and 3.61, and now I'm running Shamanix's 3.57 with a 6 mb pool. Whenever I go to uninstall a program with the 'remove programs' tool, a message pops up that says 'program was not completely removed.' SKtools will sometimes remove them then, but not often. It's not just one particular program, and it's happened in every ROM i've used. It's aggravating, having to hard reset or reflash every time I want to remove a program. What am I doing wrong here?

you know I just had that same issue with super d lite, never had it happen before. It said after it couldnt be removed would you like to remove it from this list and then I was unable to reselect it so I had to hard reset. It was Custels cing apps. no other program gave me this issue. Im thinking It might be because it was a very light rom and I didnt reflash a carrier rom first went from vp3g to it and didnt do the carrier flash. That is the only thing I could come up with but havent had the time to test it by reflashing a carrier rom, then reflashing super lite and reinstalling custels apps and then trying to unistall to check.

So are you saying going from one custom ROM to another custom ROM without going to a carrier ROM in between may be causing the problem?

it is a possibility, i have not explored it yet but its the only thing that i have noticed that i did different

If WinMobile works the same as WinXP or Win Vista then all the message means is that some elements of the programme were not removed.
Most times this has happened to me I simply go into the program files folder, find the folder that contained the proramme I just deleted (be careful here), delete it, and job's a good un.
No need for hard resets, flashing carrier roms in betweem cooked roms, praying at the temple of your god before reflashing, and so on.

Problem Installing Apps in Official WWE English WM6 rom.

Hey y'all,
I have decided to update my device to WM6, to which purpose I downloaded the official version after registering for the e-club thing.
Anyways, I was struggling with making BlackBerry Connect live along with syncing to Missing Sync for mac the whole day and got it all figured out... (if anyone needs the answer on how to make BlackBerry Connect 4.0.0.90 and Missing Sync 4.0.0.415 work together give me a shout and I'll post a separate how-to on it to the forum)
So I had it all figured out and wanted to do a clean install of everything mind you this after about 20 or so hard resets. After this point all apps stop installing!!! Pretty much anything which needs some complicated install procedure does not install and just spews up the following:
"Installation was unsuccessfull. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate."
So now I am thoroughly confused on how to get around this. I have tried more hard resets and even reflashed with the same version of the ROM two more times, each time the result is exactly the same.
The strange thing is that some things do seem to get through like the PHM RegEdit and TaskManager and one of the JPL4 Dialer Skins... all installed without a hitch...
Trying to install Opera, BBConnect, SecureGSM and HTC Phone Pad brings up the aforementioned message although the install processes mostly seems to get to the aforementioned message. 5/6 hours ago all of these installed without a hitch, although sometimes I did have to try installing two or three times.
I am trying to install to the Storage Card, but the effect is the same if I try built in memory too.
Any one got any ideas? can it be that some certificate went out of date on the 1st of August or something? How could I cure all this?

build a rom from a phone that has been setup?

Hello,
I was wondering if i can somehow make a rom off of a running phone....
Basically here is my thinking...
I have a tilt (kaiser), and i want to setup something like sprite terminator (possibly something else) on it as well as some other apps, once it is all customized the way i like it, i want to backup the device into a rom, then use it to flash my phone..... that way should anyone ever steal my phone even if they did a hard reset it would only flash back to my rom and therefore my terminator already be setup again....

Sort of - you can extract a ROM from an HTC device but, as said above, it won't include any changes made by you after hardreset. All it will do is to take the ROM that sets up Windows, etc. for you. It will only do the same job if you then take that ROM and install it on the same device or elsewhere.
What you probably want to do get a kitchen and cook in these apps. In most cases you can also cook in all your personal settings for those programs and for windows itself.
If you go far enough into cooking kitchens, you'll eventually be able to make a ROM which is, after a hard reset, already set up precisely the way it would be if you hard reset and install all your apps and change all of the setting both in Control Panel items and in your apps. All that could be there smiling at you after a hard reset as you want it to be, but you'll have to cook a ROM to make it so.
Another option is to use an auto-installer for cabs, although that would only make setup easier and can be circumvented pre soft resetting before the installs kick off so it wouldn't have the security of having your name and theft-prevention software already set up.
In my case, my Hermes does come completely setup with all my preferred windows and apps settings, as if I'd spent hours setting up after a hard reset. Mostly this is done by a big cab in Preconfig and most settings in the ROM's registry from cooking with a rgu file. A big one.
(I'm working - albeit slowly - on some simple tools that can help in creating one's own single, personal OEM to add into a kitchen and has all of your settings and apps in it. I just need to work out how to automate some cabwiz functions that currently I'm using some expensive-ish software for which I can't expect others to buy. Can't give out my own 'big cab' even to help as an example I'm afraid as it's got all kinds of paid-for or private stuff in and it'll take ages to unpick. Should I not get this simple tool going as I want, I'll probably just write a page on wiki or something as it's still easier than going through the whole process of cooking in many apps and your windows folder wil be much, much cleaner and your phone a lot faster if you do it this way.)
Great thanks so much for all the help.... BTW tried sprite and it only caused my tilt to not download emails from exchange so it came off and time for another hard reset

Tytn keeps hard reseting himself

Hi,
I've flashed my HTC Tytn a couple of times, with a "slim" wm6 in order to get rid of all the operator related stuff. Everything went fine, until 2 days after, the PDA jamed, i soft reset it, and when it started up, it asked me to align the screen. It was completly empty (same thing as a hard reset).
Then, i flashed the latest TNT series ROM to it, and, next day, same thing.
But today i've seen what happened. When i clicked the start button, it only showed the "recent programs" list. I soft reseted it, and, align the screen, once again.
This is really anoying.... any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Any kind of help appreciated....
This has been discussed in many threads.
you will need to flash a manufacturers rom (AT&T seems the best) and then flash your rom of choice.
it is best to flash via activesync, not sd card.
if it continues to cause problems, then let us know.
Oh... ok! I'll try that..
Thanks,
Fonzi

Touch Diamond - Hard Reset Issue

I've read lots of comments, these very unwanted random hard-resets are suppose to be a common bug, however the suggested fixes dont seem to work for me, anyone else having the same issue?
Note: The issue must be software related, it only started happening to me immediately after a ROM update a few months back.
What usually happens:
- Install a ROM -> Configure It -> Install Apps... all looks good
- At some random point (could be days or weeks) the phone will lock up (usually on the password screen)
- A soft reset is required to rectify the lock-up
(i.e. the red button on back of phone)
- Phone hard-resets itself
Suggested Solutions:
1) Upgrade to HardSPL 1.93 - made no difference
2) I have tried running MTTY a few times, also no difference
3) Try different ROM's, I thought it might be just a bug with the WWE ROM, but it happens with the Energy ROM too
Just out of interest:
Interestingly, my wifes phone, which I do exactly the same updates on (same phone, same ROM, same Radio, etc), is working completely fine...
Hi
i had the same problem...for solve the problem, just flash the stock rom...you can download from htc website...than you can flash any rom you like and everytjing will work fine.
for any help just ask!

Hi, thanks for suggestion, although yep I tried that too. There is no stock ROM for an imported phone on Optus, but I just used the stock Telstra one that was on the forums, then after a while went back to the WWE ROM, and the same issue still occurs.
No other ideas for resolving the hard reset issues?
Next time it happens, I might try pulling the battery out instead of using the reset button on the back of the phone.. but clearly something is wrong :-/
i have had this a couple of times, about 6 months ago and last week. i just flashed a different ROM, flashing the same one again didnt help, so just downloaded a different one and went with that.
seems to be ok now
flash this rom and do a hard reset after flashing:

Thanks again for suggestions so far, but above fix only lasted about 5 days before another intermittent phone crash & subsequent hard reset, much the same as I have had experimenting with a range of stock and other ROM's :-/
I don't think the fix is as simple as just putting a Stock Rom -> Hard Reset -> MTTY -> New Rom -> Hard Reset. Im pretty sure its a software problem, but I dont see how the problem can survive such rigorous formatting...
Is noone else having the problem? Sounds like most are solved with 1 use of MTTY.
I searched a lot and found your thread.
I was upgrading my friend's Diamond, when he tells me that it hard resets itself without a reason. At first I thought it was the ROM's problem, so I switched to another one. But after I flashed the ROM, during the process of setting up the phone (settings, softwares), at some random point of installing random software, the phone says that the software was not installed successfully. After several re-flash, re-install, and ROM switching, it appears to me it's not a software problem.
It seems that it's at some point when the internal storage (not the NaviNAND) reaches a specific size, the device would fail and hangs (or not, randomly, but you can't install anything further), after a soft-reset, it will hard resets itself instead, it looks like some "badblocks" (sort of) on the internal storage NAND to me.
Is there a way to figure out if my theory's correct? I'm wondering if there is any tool that can run some diagnose on the internal NAND. If I'm correct and there is tool that can do so, it must have the ability to mask the bad pages on the NAND, right?
EDIT: There's a way to re-produce the situation. Just download some big apps (several MBs big) and install them in order. It will almost always hang at the same point.
The only solution is:
1st MTTY and run task 29 to format the device to make it clean and no left over stuff from the last ROM.
2nd Install different ROM
If you have bad sectors in the device, MTTY might not help much here, I guess.
Hi maddie, yes you might be onto something, I assume you already tried the usual fixes: (Stock Rom -> Hard Reset -> MTTY -> New Rom -> Hard Reset)? You can tell it to format the NaviNAND during the hard reset.
I think my issue might be different to yours though, as mine does not happen 'when installing software' mine happens days/weeks after setting up the phone.. It usually goes down like this: I pull the phone out of my pocket -> its locked on the password screen usually (cant type) -> pull the battery out or press the soft-reset button -> bang.. phone hard-resets.
I will make 1 suggestion though, instead of using all the nice fancy mods, and SPB Mobile Shell (looks like sense ui), I went back to a boring old stock rom, and well after 1 month its still going.. I absolutely hate it, but I dont want to buy another phone quite yet, so gonna go old-skool.
Let me know how you go, and as above if you did all the standard suggestions? It sounds like you need to somehow instruct the phone not to use those bad memory spots, but ive no idea if such a tool exists im afraid.

I got the same problem recently and I am still trying different way to solve it.
My Hard-reset happen:
After flashing new rom -> Installation of software ->
-> launching programs -> when some got may holding or loading without response
-> Soft-reset (red bottom) -> It automatically Hard-reset....
Similar thinking with you, I think that maybe one of those reasons leading the hard reset:
1. Device got bad sector while flashing for different roms;
2. New Radios got bug and crash with the new version of roms;
3. Too many things stored in Internal Storage;

I like this logic, im in the position of owning 2 HTC Diamonds with identical ROM, Radio, Applications, 1 works perfectly, 1 is resetting.
It 'probably' indicates that its hardware related, I doubt its Radio (due to the other phone working fine), so could be Internal Storage or Bad Sector.
Im not even close to filling up my internal storage though, so if its storage related, perhaps a particular sector is the problem (like maddie was mentioning).
Thanks for all your opinions!
It's the first time for me to think it's the Radio's problem. It comes to me now it seems this situation starts when I flashed the 1.15.25.14 radio. I will try another radio and update here.
I dont 'think' its Radio, but worth a shot.
I cant consistently reproduce my issue, so it could take me a month to find out if ive fixed the issue.. and there are a lot of variables in a month. But sounds like you have a way of reproducing it consistently, gl.
OK, it doesn't seem to work. I think that's it..
Maybe I should start looking at the bootloader commands..
ive got the same issue, but only with some ROMs, for example, the AZTOR X3 and GEN.Y D2 didnt work, but gen.y 1.4 worked for me.
I tried MTTY method to re-flashing, it seems fine to my diamond right now.
i have the same problem, i have tried about 10 different roms, but i don't think it's software related, i think it might be the phone overheating causing a faulty component, it started 2 days ago for me and usually after 5-10 min it crashes, and it started happening when the weather heated up and it will crash quicker if i try to charge it, anyone notice this?
Has anyone found a solution to this?
For me it started when I installed the Gen Y rom with the android dual booter (but not android itself). I have tried MTTY, Stock ROM but Im still experiencing the problem. I suspect it has something to do with the dual boot.
I get the same thing. soft reset = hard reset.
I have tried several ROMs but now the phone hangs on the loading screen

help please

just a quick question for a stupid noob, ive flashed my diamond to Gen.Y TouchFlo3Dv2.1 VGA and im loving it, its taken a while but ive got it just how i want now, if i change the radio will i have to set up all my apps again
no.....
when i run the program its a ruu and i thought that would wipe all my apps and i would have to re install my apps, but your saying no, all my programs will stay and all the reg tweaks ive made will stay untouched .
It will wipe programs from your "phone" memory, not from the "internal" memory I think. But I think that the old ones will not be visible. Settings after flashing new rom will be removed. That's my oppinion
Radio...
Flashing a radio won't touch any of your programs or settings... it's in a different part of the ROM
Flashing a Radio..

Hi Bazz..
What Benko said, short but sweet , is absolutely right.. Just use the CustomRUU.exe (flashing utility) and the radio file you want and flash as is (I have HardSPL on my phone allowing me to flash anything).. I applied the same Gen2.1 ROM (my compliments to Yozgatg for a great ROM ) not more than a week ago, tried the Radio 1.13.25.24 and then decided to go back to 1.15.25.14 (search on forums and you'll find it). I've been using that Radio for a good number or months and it's pretty reliable and good on battery (for HTC Diamond) so you might want to have a look and see what others have said about it
BTW - I flashed it as is and didn't have to re-enter any settings at all and my phone booted as normal after. If you sync your phone with your desktop PC make sure you get a sync BEFORE you upgrade just in case as it's better to be safe but like grahamkdt said I doubt you'll need it.
Yeah SRY, I ment the full rom flashing
