Tytn keeps hard reseting himself - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi,
I've flashed my HTC Tytn a couple of times, with a "slim" wm6 in order to get rid of all the operator related stuff. Everything went fine, until 2 days after, the PDA jamed, i soft reset it, and when it started up, it asked me to align the screen. It was completly empty (same thing as a hard reset).
Then, i flashed the latest TNT series ROM to it, and, next day, same thing.
But today i've seen what happened. When i clicked the start button, it only showed the "recent programs" list. I soft reseted it, and, align the screen, once again.
This is really anoying.... any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Any kind of help appreciated....

This has been discussed in many threads.
you will need to flash a manufacturers rom (AT&T seems the best) and then flash your rom of choice.
it is best to flash via activesync, not sd card.
if it continues to cause problems, then let us know.

Oh... ok! I'll try that..
Thanks,
Fonzi

Unable to access start menu

I have just upgraded to Artemis touch 4.02 so far so good apart from the fact i can't access the start menu. Every time i click on start a blank window opens where the menu would appear in all it's glory! I had to do a soft reset to get things back to normal. all help would be much appreiciated.
Do you have access to a file explorer (via activesync perhaps) and can you verify if the windows\start menu folder has any icons in it? Can you make one and have it show up?
But really, this is such a basic problem, maybe you should just reflash the same ROM. There are many posts saying good form when it comes to flashing is to hard reset your device. Flash the new rom and then flash again. I've done it both ways (flashing once, and flashing twice) and had it be perfect or had it not work. I also had a rom never boot when I'd read hundreds of posts about how great it was. I ended up with a different rom 'cuz it never would work on my phone. You could try a different rom if all else fails.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice, i did a hard reset and so far so good and am loving the firmware! should have done it ages ago

It got SO HARD..................... of a Reset :)

The subject was just to make you laugh, there is no Pron in this story.
For the short version minus the story, skip down to the 2nd paragraph, otherwise read below.
Well I have been running my Hermes for over a year, have flashed it dozens of times, about 10 Roms ago, I ran across one that caused a hard reset, so I quickly dumped it and moved on. I went back to flashing like normal. Then running M2D I got a hard reset that was so bad, it froze the machine and could not even boot. I gave up on the M2D based Roms and went back to old and trusty CRC's stuff. Yesterday again when I really needed my phone to work perfect, on a car club drive, 100 miles from home with people calling me to arrange times they are meeting me and to ask exactly where our group was in the run, my phone locked up. I was able to get it to load back up long enough to quickly hit the call forward to my wifes phone who was along with me. I had her fiddle with it, and reset it. Right back to fresh install of CRC 14.1 On a good note, I found that when needing too, I can install TomTom and even configure my Bluetooth GPS with one hand while driving at 90mph on a backroad chasing other car guys.
Ok during my random flashing of Roms over the last year or so, I have never once flashed it back to stock. I installed Hard SPL, upgraded the radio to 1.54 and never looked back.
Could someone give me a quick brush up on Re-Flashing back to an OEM rom, what is the "Proper" rom that I should be using. Will the OEM rom screw with my radio. Why is this even necessary?

You can use any OEM rom, theres a stripped one in my 4shared, this means it wont flash over your radio, so its safer.
And this is necessary because of the way BS roms are made, they mess with the internal memmory structure (combinging the ext rom and the main storage), flashing a OEM is like a spring clean

Help with Touch flash, please!

Hey guys, I just want to reflash my Touch back to factory form, and was wondering if I can get any help. The reason:
Went to a conference today, phone stopped receiving signal in conference room. I changed it to airplane mode, to stop from wasting battery searching for a signal. After leaving, it just hasn't received a signal again, and now refuses to boot up into windows, and the few times it does (after about 15 - 20 minutes), it won't allow me to do anything.
My question: Is there any way I can flash this? I'm having trouble, as I can't get to Activesync to run the factory-HTC-flasher.
ANY help appreciated, as I need to get it going again for work!
PS: I apologize for posting in 2 sections, but I'm not sure where this would belong, and am in dire need of getting this flashed so I can load my backup to it, ASAP.

have you tried to hard reset?
try holding the green call and the red end call keys while soft resetting your device, then follow on-screen instructions and see if that solves your problems

Don't bother hard-reseting if you have a custom rom,(no offense to raybond)
but there's a chance it can still have the problem or the problem can reoccur after you hard reset with the same rom.
If I were you, I would put my phone in bootloader mode
(bootloader mode = pressing power+camera+stylus reset button at the same time)
It should go to a 3 color screen,
then plug your phone into the usb cable to your computer,
on the bottom of the screen it should switch to usb instead of serial
(takes like 30secs to a minute.)
then just click the standard RomUpdateUtility.exe program for the stock rom,
and it'll start flashing your phone just like normal.
You should always flash from bootloader mode instead of activesync,
it's a lot safer/better.
Thanks guys! I just came across the hard reset on my way to check this, and ran it, and it seems to have worked. I don't have a custom ROM (never bothered to go that far, got most of the stuff I needed working from the new HTC released 6.1 ROM when it came out, not really new anymore).
EDIT: Hard reset worked, now just loading my backup.
Another question, is there anyway to save backups in such a way your text messages/call logs are saved?

if you use a program called PIMbackup, you can backup just your contacts and messages and emails. this is better if you're installing a custom ROM because if you go to a custom ROM then load a full backup it'll undo a lot of registry edits that are made and could mess with your performance a little bit.
glad the hard reset worked for you, just and FYI i would recommend flashing a custom ROM, it'll really help you get more out of your device performance-wise.

Custom ROM's will not work on my HTC Touch Diamond! HELP

Hi there guys,
this is pretty much my first post, although i've used this site a LOT since i got my phone
I have been trying to install various WM 6.5 ROM packages onto my phone over the past two days (about 8 or 9 hours in total), only to be met by failiure every time! (i have never attempted to install a Cutsom ROM on my phone before)
My Phone will Start, although it will just Hang on the "TOUCH Diamond" Screen, meaning i have to boot to the Tri Colour screen to revert back and install official rom!
I have tried FuFu 4.1.4, Ghetto, Miri etc etc..
i started off using 1.40 OliNex Hard-slp, and as i tried every possible WWE Diamond WM 6.5 ROM i could find, until i realised, it really wasnt working, after installing custom ROM, Hard resetting, and then reverting to the Official every time; multiple times!
I have now installed the 1.34 HardSLP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621) using "Jump=slp" (and checked that it is installed) and have found that this does not work either!
I really have no clue as to why it wont work, as i have searched and searched google, and done a load of searches on xda Dev. too and cant find anything!
I also noticed, that every time i went to revert back to the official ROM (2.03) The RUU shows "From: (blank space)" "To: 2.03......."
Any enlightenment on the subject would be great, as i think i've spent a bit too much time trying to get it to work to suddenly turn back now!
P.S, to all developers out there, THANKS for all of you great work! Keep it up guys, there's so much great stuff coming out!
Problem fixed, was cos i was doing the flashing on a stupidly crap laptop lol!
ahh well...
WM 6.5 is a bit better than 6.1 haha
same problem
hi
could you explain step by step how you solve it , i have the same problem " touch diamond" is on screen with nothing happens, i tred allmost everything including a diffrend compuer ...
have you flashed your phone with a hardslp??

Touch Diamond - Hard Reset Issue

I've read lots of comments, these very unwanted random hard-resets are suppose to be a common bug, however the suggested fixes dont seem to work for me, anyone else having the same issue?
Note: The issue must be software related, it only started happening to me immediately after a ROM update a few months back.
What usually happens:
- Install a ROM -> Configure It -> Install Apps... all looks good
- At some random point (could be days or weeks) the phone will lock up (usually on the password screen)
- A soft reset is required to rectify the lock-up
(i.e. the red button on back of phone)
- Phone hard-resets itself
Suggested Solutions:
1) Upgrade to HardSPL 1.93 - made no difference
2) I have tried running MTTY a few times, also no difference
3) Try different ROM's, I thought it might be just a bug with the WWE ROM, but it happens with the Energy ROM too
Just out of interest:
Interestingly, my wifes phone, which I do exactly the same updates on (same phone, same ROM, same Radio, etc), is working completely fine...
Hi
i had the same problem...for solve the problem, just flash the stock rom...you can download from htc website...than you can flash any rom you like and everytjing will work fine.
for any help just ask!

Hi, thanks for suggestion, although yep I tried that too. There is no stock ROM for an imported phone on Optus, but I just used the stock Telstra one that was on the forums, then after a while went back to the WWE ROM, and the same issue still occurs.
No other ideas for resolving the hard reset issues?
Next time it happens, I might try pulling the battery out instead of using the reset button on the back of the phone.. but clearly something is wrong :-/
i have had this a couple of times, about 6 months ago and last week. i just flashed a different ROM, flashing the same one again didnt help, so just downloaded a different one and went with that.
seems to be ok now
flash this rom and do a hard reset after flashing:

Thanks again for suggestions so far, but above fix only lasted about 5 days before another intermittent phone crash & subsequent hard reset, much the same as I have had experimenting with a range of stock and other ROM's :-/
I don't think the fix is as simple as just putting a Stock Rom -> Hard Reset -> MTTY -> New Rom -> Hard Reset. Im pretty sure its a software problem, but I dont see how the problem can survive such rigorous formatting...
Is noone else having the problem? Sounds like most are solved with 1 use of MTTY.
I searched a lot and found your thread.
I was upgrading my friend's Diamond, when he tells me that it hard resets itself without a reason. At first I thought it was the ROM's problem, so I switched to another one. But after I flashed the ROM, during the process of setting up the phone (settings, softwares), at some random point of installing random software, the phone says that the software was not installed successfully. After several re-flash, re-install, and ROM switching, it appears to me it's not a software problem.
It seems that it's at some point when the internal storage (not the NaviNAND) reaches a specific size, the device would fail and hangs (or not, randomly, but you can't install anything further), after a soft-reset, it will hard resets itself instead, it looks like some "badblocks" (sort of) on the internal storage NAND to me.
Is there a way to figure out if my theory's correct? I'm wondering if there is any tool that can run some diagnose on the internal NAND. If I'm correct and there is tool that can do so, it must have the ability to mask the bad pages on the NAND, right?
EDIT: There's a way to re-produce the situation. Just download some big apps (several MBs big) and install them in order. It will almost always hang at the same point.
The only solution is:
1st MTTY and run task 29 to format the device to make it clean and no left over stuff from the last ROM.
2nd Install different ROM
If you have bad sectors in the device, MTTY might not help much here, I guess.
Hi maddie, yes you might be onto something, I assume you already tried the usual fixes: (Stock Rom -> Hard Reset -> MTTY -> New Rom -> Hard Reset)? You can tell it to format the NaviNAND during the hard reset.
I think my issue might be different to yours though, as mine does not happen 'when installing software' mine happens days/weeks after setting up the phone.. It usually goes down like this: I pull the phone out of my pocket -> its locked on the password screen usually (cant type) -> pull the battery out or press the soft-reset button -> bang.. phone hard-resets.
I will make 1 suggestion though, instead of using all the nice fancy mods, and SPB Mobile Shell (looks like sense ui), I went back to a boring old stock rom, and well after 1 month its still going.. I absolutely hate it, but I dont want to buy another phone quite yet, so gonna go old-skool.
Let me know how you go, and as above if you did all the standard suggestions? It sounds like you need to somehow instruct the phone not to use those bad memory spots, but ive no idea if such a tool exists im afraid.

I got the same problem recently and I am still trying different way to solve it.
My Hard-reset happen:
After flashing new rom -> Installation of software ->
-> launching programs -> when some got may holding or loading without response
-> Soft-reset (red bottom) -> It automatically Hard-reset....
Similar thinking with you, I think that maybe one of those reasons leading the hard reset:
1. Device got bad sector while flashing for different roms;
2. New Radios got bug and crash with the new version of roms;
3. Too many things stored in Internal Storage;

I like this logic, im in the position of owning 2 HTC Diamonds with identical ROM, Radio, Applications, 1 works perfectly, 1 is resetting.
It 'probably' indicates that its hardware related, I doubt its Radio (due to the other phone working fine), so could be Internal Storage or Bad Sector.
Im not even close to filling up my internal storage though, so if its storage related, perhaps a particular sector is the problem (like maddie was mentioning).
Thanks for all your opinions!
It's the first time for me to think it's the Radio's problem. It comes to me now it seems this situation starts when I flashed the 1.15.25.14 radio. I will try another radio and update here.
I dont 'think' its Radio, but worth a shot.
I cant consistently reproduce my issue, so it could take me a month to find out if ive fixed the issue.. and there are a lot of variables in a month. But sounds like you have a way of reproducing it consistently, gl.
OK, it doesn't seem to work. I think that's it..
Maybe I should start looking at the bootloader commands..
ive got the same issue, but only with some ROMs, for example, the AZTOR X3 and GEN.Y D2 didnt work, but gen.y 1.4 worked for me.
I tried MTTY method to re-flashing, it seems fine to my diamond right now.
i have the same problem, i have tried about 10 different roms, but i don't think it's software related, i think it might be the phone overheating causing a faulty component, it started 2 days ago for me and usually after 5-10 min it crashes, and it started happening when the weather heated up and it will crash quicker if i try to charge it, anyone notice this?
Has anyone found a solution to this?
For me it started when I installed the Gen Y rom with the android dual booter (but not android itself). I have tried MTTY, Stock ROM but Im still experiencing the problem. I suspect it has something to do with the dual boot.
I get the same thing. soft reset = hard reset.
I have tried several ROMs but now the phone hangs on the loading screen
