Hello all
I would like to cook my own rom...
I have downloaded RomDonalds and have tried to get a rom started
but have had probs, I spoke to bennec83 who has helped me as much as he can so far but works with hermes more....thanks for your help bennec83
My questions are
what base rom to use?
how to extract roms from "officail" releases?
Tips and tricks..
Lets keep the knowledge flowing
To the Chefs.....what would you recommend as a starting point..or method..
I started with a rom and when editing the default-boot.rgu there were so many @="" in the wrong place, it would take me a week to update...

hi there, try this.
download a official rom first, then use winrar extract all files, you will find ruu_sighed.nbh. use NBHextract or ROMbaker you can extract .nb file from this .nbh one. that is your os!

I have a question here.. if I download the official rom from my vendor (TIM) italian it's in a .exe and once it lunches it does the rest.. is there a way to extract it from there.

You can unpack it with Winrar..
Open winrar and point to the .exe file, and u will be able to unpack all the files, as were it a normal rar archive.
How would i got about this????
You try to search Custom Splash Screen in the forum. You should find the thread.
You also need Windows XP instead of Vista.
You can also find a picture you like 240x320 and rename it "welcomehead.96.PNG"... This will overwrite the 2nd splash screen that comes up... I use resco 2007 to overwrite this file in the wibndows directory as it is part of the rom and the base file explorer WON'T do this. Total Commander will also overwrite, or so I've heard(never tried cos I LOVE resco)...

If you there is already a startup screen in a ROM that you like and you want to use it in another ROM then you can always use Dutty NBHTool and extract it then just include it in the ROM you want.
Also once you've got the startup screen you like, then for any subsequent ROM you do do load then you can use the NBHtool to get rid of the startup screens and just repackage the NHB with just the OS.

Does anyone have a copy of the basic plain HTC logo screens? I believe there's a black version and a white version.

If I have a rom already installed and I only want to change the splash screen can I use nbhtool without overwriting what I've already set up? Or do I have to flash the new rom and lose anything i've got setup right now?

attached is the Splash Screen tool. Make your splash screens self.
create a bitmap (sample.bmp), with 240x320 pixel
open "nb_image_converter.exe"
load your bitmap
save as *.nb file (sample.nb)
open the new *.nb with "SplashTool.exe", convert to new format
create with dutty nbh tool a *.nbh file with you splash screen
flash the nbh file

Probably a multi-part archive. 7-zip is free, with better compression than rar.

its like the parts of an RAR archive... this is in "7-zip" format.. download that software.. and keep the 3 parts in a same folder..

its multiple archive
unpack with 7zip... install 7zip after right click on file then 7-Zip option then extract... simpel like that

I've downloaded the file.. topaz.rar and after extracting I'm having 3 files with .raw extension. Pls anybody let me know how to use these files to flash rom. I've always used DIAMIMG.nbh files to flash it.
Pls also confirm if this ROM can be flashed on HTC Touch Diamond.
i'm using a mac...so don't know if its windows recognisable format..

The rom is for Topaz. You cannot flash it to your Diamond.
What you can do is grabbing the packages extracted and adding theim to an existing Diamond kitchen.
The rom is posted only for porting purpose !

If you go into windows and delete the file and then soft reset it gets replaced with an original from the root of the ROM.

i tried that but it seems the file cannot be deleted cause its a rom file.i used recso explorer and total commander same message! any other ideas? i'm able to replace the file with another one which i did to change the cursor icon forgeting to backup the origional.now i want to switch back to the origional and can't cause i no longer have the file!

You may not like it but a hard reset would be your option. There may be differences with other peoples ROM which could cause more problems than you want.

hey thanks allot....but i found that file on the forum already it does not work, for my hd it was allot larger than that! was this extracted from your hd?
anyone else can help me without me having to hard reset my hd? the only thing i want is the origional wait cursor file...help!

what rom are you using? i.e. is it wm6.1 or is wm6.5 based?
I've got stock taskbar icons cab install for both wm6.1 and wm6.5 which will revert your device back to original state i.e. the default taskbar icons saving you the hassel of not hard reseting! is this any good to you? if so I can upload here or give you download link!

Ok here you go find attched cab You may need to install sdkcerts.cab first and then install the wm6.5 taskbar cab!

ROM version: 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE wm6.1...would it be possible to have the shellres.192.dll file only?
All i'm trying to achieve is to get back the origional wait cursor and the start menu icon!the shellres.192.dll file i installed over the origional had those two items modified.everything else is fine just those two items i want to get back, thats why i need the origional shellres.192.dll file.

You can always rename the file and put .bak at the end.
Hello guys after much request, i asked harshal if he let me released the rom he made for me using the 1.00 oem drivers.

With this flash and extrom package i ran into the eternal clean boot, setup, customize, reset....over and over.... i tried flashing it twice... i even tried replacing the extrom but no luck....guess third try was not a charm

I forgot to mention dont use the included appsboot.mbn, use the default one in the 23506 flashing tools.

What files from this download do we copy over to the 23506 firmware directory other than Flash.bin file?
I have done something wrong. Here is what I have done so far.
1-Downloaded Beta 3 Flashing Tool
2-Downloaded S200_28002_B3
3-Downloaded EUU_Acer_s200_28002_Rafel
4-Downloaded EXTROM from the Beta 3 forum page
5-Placed the EXTROM in the Rafel folder along with the appsboot.mbn from the Beta 3 flashing tools.
6-Installed ROM
Now I seem to be in a boot loop. The first thing that shows is Clean Boot then the newer windows screen(not the orange one) and then it wants to install Acer Cabs. After everything is installed it reboots and starts all over.
So, what file did I not put in the Rafel folder or should I have used a different EXTROM or appsboot?

I just put the flash and extrom from the download to the 23506 flash tools by hdubli.

I don't understand why you don't upload full and correct files?
Why we must use other files? It's no so hard but all right files together and upload them. Every time it's like puzzle. Think witch parts are correct together.

Is anyone having the issue where the HTC Sense screen is about 1/8" to low? I tried disabling Sense, installing the Suite file posted on the Beta 3 page, restarting and then reenable sense, but nothing changed.
Any ideas..?
How hard is to dowload the rom, then dowload the hdubli 23506, extract it to a folder, then extract the flash.bin from the 1.00 beta 3 rom,place it in the same folder were you extract it the 23506 FILES and flash, is that hard?

No it's not hard, if I understand which files are tools and which ones rom. One time you write: "also use the provided partition.mbn". Second time: "dont use the included appsboot.mbn".
