Device Stuck in Windows Mobile Screen - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

First of all: I read the Wiki, I followed the instructions, and I could once get it back to life.
But I want to know WHY this happens over and over again.
The story:
I have a MDA Vario II (Hermes, Tytn) for a long time to sync my business mails and calendar- entries. Some Time ago I found this Forum and updated the Device to Windows Mobile 6 (i'm Using Schaps 3.54b) and everything works like a charm.
A few weeks ago my boss as well got the same device, and unfortunately he saw me using Windows Mobile 6 while he was using the T-Mobile Windows Mobile 5.
He wanted me to update his device as well. As I did not have ANY Problems with WM6, I did not hesitate to update his device as well.
The devices are like "clones":
Same Radio- Version 1.51
Same OS - Schaps
Same Applications: Onebridge Mobile Client as the only "non-schaps" - App
Same Configuration: HTC Home without Sound- Tab, no other Extensions on Home.
Same Provider (T-Mobile)
Of course they have different IMEI and different MAC_ Adresses, but that is what it is supposed to be.
But since I gave the device to my boss, he already had the problem the second time: The device will not go over the Windows- Mobile- Splash- Screen. The first time I did not search the WIKI / Forum and just did a Hard- reset and everything was fine again.
Today problems started the second time: First of all the device was not recognized by his laptop (and my laptop eather) any more: It said "Unknown device". And while it always charges (orange led on) for the first few seconds after re- pluggin, it stopps charging after the error- Message on the laptop.
So I thought: Maybe an akku- problem and interchanged his akku with mine.
And now i have the Windows- Boot- Stuck- Thing again.
It's not that I could not reanimate the device by Hard- resetting it, but I want to understand the reason:
How can it be, that exactly the same hardware with exactly the same software reacts that different.
By the way: This already is the second device for my boss, the first one has already been exchanged... After it had Boot- Problems (I reflashed original Radio, Firmware, so that they did not say anything)
Can anyone help ?
EDIT:
I tried leaving the battery out for 20 Minutes -> no success
I tried leaving it in Boot- Screen for 10 Minutes (or even more) -> No Access
I connected it to my PC and it can be found and gets an IP- Adfress that I can ping, but ActiveSync does not connect and the Screen is still a Windows mobile Boot- Screen.
At the Moment I'am trieing to get a log via USB- Monitor. I'm gona post it when I get it...
EDIT2:
OK, cause it's the device of my boss I now gave him mine (after a hard-reset and reinstalltion of the needed application) and reanimated his one by just doing a hard- reset. It came back to live instantly and now I will try to reproduce this hang with his device whilest him using mine. Seems that everybody knows how to reanimate, but nobody knows, why this happens... I'll try to find out and report it back if I can find the reason.

I have the same problem after installing the new HTC Plus plug in.
My ROM is the supa dupa lite one.
Now i need to remember how to do a hard reset!
edit - hard reset go tme back to 'normal'

i tried supa dupa and superstorage dlite, my phone stuck same as you are. .... at last i put any stable .nbh in microsd. then pushed power+ok+soft rest button... reflash back. successful!

Mine with Schaps 4.31 & Radio 1.54 also stucks in Windows Mobile screen after a few day upgrading ROM & radio then installing HTC Plus.
Hard reset does the cure, but I lost all the data.
So what's the culprit ?

i had the same problem, i understood the problem is the calendar.
if you have a schedule in the calendar, with a reminder or with nothing, and you turn off the pda, it will freeze in the windows splash screen when you try to turn it on. Until the schedule is ended.
i had the shap's rom 3.54b, and i resolve installing the 4.30 rom.
bye!

everytime I have had such issues..........was a corrupt installation.
when I am flashing I no touch anything anymore........just gun shy now.

having the same problem, any solutions yet?

Help / Advice Needed Regarding o2 Rom Upgrade for XDA IIi

Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading my rom using the rom upgrade from the o2 www site.
Its been stuck on the
'checking the information on your device....Please wait.....Please do not disconnect your device from the PC or power supply until the upgrade is complete'
window for some time now. I dont know if its hung / crashed or in the middle of upgrading.
I dont want to chance it by removing the unit from the sync cradle but at the same time i dont wanna just leave it there for hours if its not doing anything.
Can anyone help ?
Steve
ps - the window I am speaking about came after the big window stating what your current rom / radio stack was and what they would be updated to giving you the option to click 'update' or 'cancel' I chose 'update' and got the message which I described earlier
Try this on a different PC...I'm assuming the phone itself is still functioning.
I had this a while back with the XDA2 and found that by attempting the upgrade on a laptop I had, it worked great without the hang.
I would then remove ASync completely (including registry items) and then reinstall it.
Cheers
Ant
I had this happen, I just shut down and restarted the installer program

Bluetooth manager doesn't start until I soft reset

Hi all,
I have a strange problem: bluetooth manager works fine after a soft reset. I can my PPC the whole day and it will always start normally (read: the screen that shows BT shortcuts shows up). The problem occurs when I turn off the phone over night (flight mode). The next day I can't get the BT manager to show the shortcuts screen - BT can be switched on and off but neither the BT manager or the BT settings screen will show up (there is no error message!!!). After I do a soft reset everything starts working...
Has anyone come across this kind of a problem in the past? I couldn't find anything using search on this forum...
My device info is (DutchRetail ROM):
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Ext ROM: 1.40.556 WWE
I have tried uninstalling almost all extra software that I have installed after a hard reset but the issue is still here.
Thanks for all suggestions on what else I can try.
Hi Poga,
Yep, I get exactly the same problem :-(

ROM (i-Mate) 1.40.00 WWE

ExtROM 1.40.176

Do either of you have Goodlink software on your device?
same problem no goodlink
Same problem but no goodlink software
I also get another funny problem where sometimes I go to connect to my bluetooth access point from my phone and it just has the little pie icon saying it's doing something, then it stops and it hasn't connected (the connection icon stays the same) and I can't make any sort of connection. It then does this everytime I try to connect.
I don't know how i fix it, but I combination of many soft resets various flight mode turn ons and fiddling it eventually works. It's very frustrating and it's happened on every software version. Right now i"m running 2.04.00. I have a CDMA from Telecom NZ running radio HA_01_151 right now (but I've tried other radios).
Somebody else had this problem I noticed but nobody replied to his posts.
I've got the same problem I hope someday that someone makes a fix for it. I run the XDA IIs BlueAngel 1.40.00 Asian O2 ROM WWE. =/.
Same problem here - only solution I had was to go into settings/memory and then stop all programs running - then the bluetooth manager appears without the need for a softboot..
Pain in the arse. :!:

I do and I have the same problem. I've been suspecting that it may have something to do with that because when I reset and I can start the manager just fine before I start Goodlink, but after I start goodlink it's a pain. Once, I tried to start BT manager then it didnt... i forgot all about it then suddenly some 11 hours later it just popped up by itself. Goodlink had been running continuously.
Any ideas???
I sometimes have the same effect.
What I usually do to resolve it (without soft reset):
- I installed PocketNav (kills programs which run in the background)
- I select 'Close all but Ative' in PocketNav
Then the Bluetooth Manager works again.
Hope it helps.

This is due to memory limitation in WM2003SE. When it finds that the memory is not sufficient it wont run Bluetooth Manager or Wifi. I had this problem a lot until i have shifted to WM5 which has more than 100 mb when the device starts. I guess that is why M$ has built WM5 for that reason and also for persisten storage of course.
The "memory limitation" is indirectly the problem. The Goodlink, which is more than three times the memory hog as any other 3rd party app out there, is the direct problem. I could write a college discertation on the amount of bugs in this awful software. And yes, it is good for push email...but at the expense of everything else that is good about these multimedia devices we own. The typical "close-when-you-tap-the-X" software utilities don't shut down Goodlink on my device even though they successfully shut down every other software I own (over 40 titles). So I have to use MemMaid to kill its process. But Goodlink will restore itself in a matter of minutes as it ventures out to the server looking to synch mail, calendar, contacts. If there was ever a reason to bring back public hangings, it would be for the Goodlink windows OS development team.
I don't really see any issues with Goodlink eating my memory. Then again, I've converted from a strictly fun user to a strictly business user so the whole gaming and multimedia thing doesn't quite do it for me anymore.
Steiner,
I tried PocketNav to see if it would truly close GoodApp.exe. Although it does seem to shut the application down, the 6+MB exe still is open in memory. Using MemMaid it shows that it never really closes.
I also didn't have the Goodlink software installed . My solution to the problem was: I installed the Sprite Backup software and set it to automatically restart my PPC @ 6 am after creating a backup. So in a way, this problem was very benifical to me - I now have a fresh backup of all the software every morning and the device reboots every morning without my intervention (no BT errors, no WiFi errors, etc).

Updating JASJAR

Hi all,
I have been trying to check out the forum here, to try and solve my problem, I literally bought my JASJAR today, and it was giving some wierd behaviour. In an attempt to reload the software (I prefere to reload the entire ROM), something went wrong, now all thats on my screen is "USB" and a lil lower down "v1.01".
ActiveSync obviously not connecting now bcos the OS is not on the JASJAR no more, in my device manager is a "Microsoft USB Sync" under my mobile devices.
I downloaded what I am guessing is WM6, 'JASJAR_WWE_20106_20301_11300_wwe_ship' from another thread in this forum, tried to load that but cant communicate with device cos no activesync.
I have tried the different reset options, like the 2 function keys and the reset on the back, I push 0 to clear, and then it jus goes back to the USB v1.01 thing.
I am running windows vista home basic, with the Windows Mobile Device Center, it synced perfectly with this software, communicated properly with the update tool, until my device reset and activsync lost connection, then i was stuffed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it is your first time with the upgrade. What you are seeing on the screen is the bootloader, which is what we use for flashing new ROMs.
ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (how come you have both on Vista?) will therefore not respond. This is fine, because we use a different program to load the new ROMs.
If you look at the folder you downloaded, chances are that there should be a program called "ROMUpgradeUt" or something similar. Provided that you have not changed anything in the folder, you should be able to flash the new ROM by simply following the instructions in the program.
You can also read this link for more information: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Here is an instruction guide on ROM upgrading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269118
how come you have both on Vista?
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I have both, I recently moved to Vista, and am used to calling it activesync and not WMDC.
Thanks, will have a look
Ok, well I have got it up and running again, only problem now is activsync keeps freezing when I try and sync the device...any ideas?
I landed up using my work computer, which has XP on it, and then used MTTY and that connected fine, on Vista it simply didnt wanna work.
I ran the utility for those 'stuck on serial/usb', and that fixed it. Now I would like to load up WM6, but it keeps getting communication failures.
Thanks for the help guys....I got it working...running on WM6 now...whoo!!

O2 Orbit German to english

Hello friends,
I am not new but this is my first thread.
I have just bought a sim-free O2 Orbit from germany and it is working fine.
How can I turn the OS language into english? and I also get a failure connection to the internet since I arrived home in australia. it is 0x8007278.
Please the experts any advice is appreciated. thanks for sharing the science.
I was in the exact situation as you, this is how you change your ROM to English.
Get this program called USPL, it was created by a member of this bard called Bepe. Look on the first post for the program AND the instructions...read them.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403
What this program does is it unlocks the phones carrier lock so that it will take a ROM that is not OEM.
Once you have this, look for the ROM you want to run, I can personally recommend Bepes WM6 or WM6 Black and Blue v3.
Bepes rom...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309702
PDA Viet WM6 ROM (super freaking cool, way better than I thought it would be)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314568
Once you have these two things, put them all on the desktop for easy access, then run the USPL according to the instructions. You MUST have Active Sync installed, running and sync'd with your phone (plus its a great idea t have all your contacts backed up with Outlook). Once the USPL program has completed its process and the phone has restarted, you can then load any ROM you want. Simply plug in your phone via USB to your computer, then run the Rom Upgrade Utility that installs on your desktop when you download the ROM. It will show a progress bar, once you make it past 3 or 4 percent you know you are in the clear and the ROM will load right.
I cannot stress enough the importance of running USPL, if you dont you run an almost guaranteed risk of turning your phone into a cool looking paper weight.
If you follow these instructions, read a little in the Upgrading and the WM6 sections of this board, you will have an English phone in your hands by the time you go to bed tonight. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you need and help.
Oh and PS - For the data, once you have changed you ROM to English, you need to either find the settings or the CAB file for your data connection. Most of the time these can be found on your service provenders site, if not, run a search of this bard, almost anything you need - world wide - is on here somewhere.
THANK YOU Itschcase. your responce was brilliantly quick.
I was trying since yesterday. read most of the eplanatory threads. tried not to bother you again. but I am stuck at the USPL. after fist step the screen goes black or grey and the activeSync disconnects and it remains like that. if I continue the process nothing happened if I soft reset then continue I get error 270 "image file corrupted" and the pda reboots automatically and goes back to its state. tried 10 times. reinstalled my xp after formatting the computer. tried on my other computer vista . still no change.
any ideas please

error [260] message every time

Firstly I would like to say thanks to this site and the trinityguides.info site for the great work people have being doing and making available to everybody, it is great being able to use my trinity with wm6, keep the good work going!
Now the issue I seem to be hitting the same "error [260] connection" every time I attempt to update anything on my Trinity. I have followed the advice on the trinityguides site regarding being stuck in bootloader mode to no avail, and I can't seem to find anything in the posts on the xda site which will rectify the issue.
Previously I have been able to update to AX3L v2.8.01 version without any problems, but I decided to update to sammy's ultra light, it initially kicks into des' crashproof sspl, but then it can't connect to the pc. even when I manually enter olipro's hard-spl it does the same. I have tried to re-install hard-spl, but can't. Disconnecting the usb option in the activesync settings doesn't do anything either. Does anybody have any suggestions for me please?
I am not even too sure if my trinity should have both Des' crashproof and hard-spl on it at the same time? Could someone advise me on whether this is alright please?
the tech details:
Trinity
AX3L_OS_v2.0.8.2
radio - 1.46.30 (even though it doesn't say this in the device info, or boot screen after soft reset)
Home PC - XP (just in case)
Did you also try flashing it again, the ROM I mean. I have this error also but as soon as I execute the ROM flash again it finds the device and starts flashing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1449597&postcount=2
I am assuming you mean flash with the new ROM, sammy's in my case?
yes, as described in the link I posted before. As soon as the error occurs, do not touch the phone, leave it, just start the ROM flash procedure again. (execute ROMUpdateUtility.exe)
No, I am in the same situation. The first attempt puts the device in 'ipl-sspl by des' bootloader mode then after about 10 seconds or so the error[260] is displayed on the pc. If I exit the ruu app and attempt again, nothing new happens on the trinity (i.e. it is still in Des bootloader) and the message is displayed again.
the thing is that when it first goes into des bootloader mode, the white strip doesn't have any text in it. If I pull the usb cable out then put it back in, 'serial' is then displayed in the white bar, but I am still in the same situation as before.
What operating system en activesync are you using?
On the PC I am using XP and Activesync 4.5
Check your connection settings to accept USB connections. Also, try using Hard-SPL 1.30 before flashing the ROM again.

In your PC, try another USB connection.
BLOODY HELL!!! It is the simplest things which we often forget to try. Thanks Jotam for pointing out an obvious point, it must have needed a re-plug of the usb cable into another port for the pc to pick up the device again. I will remember that for future updates so I don't make a dumb ass of myself again. Thanks guys/gals.
Vista
Using Vista? if so which version?
Hi I asked this question yesterday, I am a noob :-[ but the only difference is I'm using Vista Ultimate.
Just for others who have the problem.
When you replug into another USB port (Luckly I've got two on my laptop..)
I used the Vista drivers from TrintyGuides and bingo !
now I try and flash a WM6.....English or Italian...maybe French.
Thanks for the help I keep you posted.
Richard
It works
Now to discover the joys of WM6 after only having WM5 for two weeks....
/i am getting the same only rom update 3.14.4.1 now sees the phone..
has the device name changed???
evene exploit no longer sees the phone
sorry, can you be a little more clear.. what ROM are you flashing, and what exactly is happening?
by the way... i thought error 246 was the connection error... am i mixed up? which is 260?
This seems to be on any rom bar the Dopod roms
and it says 260 connection error
Error 260 connection error - the phone is not going in to bootloader mode - and the RUU cannot seem to initiate communication with the phone.
I'm getting this a lot recently trying to flash.
However, Hold the power and camera buttons while resetting with the stylus (keep them buttons held down).
When you get to the bootloader - plug the phone in - wait till you see the USB at the bottom of the bootloader screen - then run the RUU again - it WILL work - every time.
I used to get this error message alot. sometimes the programs you install don't allow you to update even if you force the phone into bootloader mode so you have to hardreset the device and then upgrade.....hope this helps
