Random freezing during use - P3300, MDA Compact III General

My five month old artemis started apparently randomly freezing a few weeks ago. Usually it just freezes with the screen off, you can tell that there's power to it as there's a slight glow apparent round the edges of the screen in low light, although it does sometimes freeze with the screen and backlight on.
I've tried several of the WM6 roms including the 02 official WM6 rom and it seems to do the same thing. (I was getting the boot screen freeze on the BB4.0 rom though).
It seems to freeze more when I have it in my pocket than when it's sat around on a table and doesn't seem to be related to software installed.
Any ideas whether I am looking at a hardware problem, dodgy contacts etc?
thanks

Update: I've just noticed that if you press gently on the front of the phone, at the left-hand surround round the screen about two-thirds of the way down it makes the phone freeze. Explains why it freezes in the pocket and not on the table - Looks like it's a hardware fault...

Hello my friend,
I guess you are not the first nor the last to have the same problems. Mine was freezing too, in the same ways you describe here, but take some time to check this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320922
In Greece where I come from, it seems that many of us are experiencing the same problems and the company service is changing the motherboard (in my case the first time I sent it, they just upgraded the operating system and worked only a couple of days before it starts the same again), so I think we should start worrying about technical imperfections on our device.

Touch Screen Problem

Hi All,
I am using an IMATE Pocket PC 2003 since the last 6-8 months. Over the last few weeks I am facing a problem with the Touch Screen. ALl of a sudden the Touch Screen fails to respond although the buttons are still working.
Sometimes after several reboots, the Touch Screen responds sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I just keep it IDLE for 2-3 Hours and the Touch Screen starts responding. There is no fixed time of the error also the error is random. Sometimes everything is normal for one week and there is no problem at all. Sometimes the problem persists continously.
I have Hard Resetted it atleast 4 times but the status still remains the same.
If anybody has experienced this, do share your thoughts.
Regards
Jinesh
I read somewhere that if you re-align your screen it may help.
Do your hardware buttons still work? You could try mapping tpenable.exe to a hardware button and select this when the screen locks up.
Touch screen problem
Jinesh,
did you ever manage to fix this?? This is exactly the problem I've been having on my MDA Compact (Magician) for ages: screen unresponsive, buttons still working. I started a thread on this topic as well and got some suggestions, but never managed to sort it out. I'm a bit wary to resort to flashing a new ROM or something like that since it seems to open up a whole new set of potential problems and will cost me my warranty with T-Mobile at the least (Not that they're much help, but still)...
Thanx,
Joost
Maybe the cover
The Qtek9090-screen is sometimes locked (e.g. when it's in a car holder which causes too much pressure on both sides of the display.) The same happens sometimes without any cause - pressing on both sides unlocks the screen.
Hi,
I am using an O2 Mini now and have sold off that Imate. But what I came to know that the touch screen problem was due to the irregularities in the network. The screen stops responding fast when network is weak and the device keeps on searching the network.
I have faced this problem once or twice in my O2 mini also.
Regards
Jinesh, I don't know if you checked out my thread on this, but indeed this is the conclusion I've reached: bad network causes the unresponsive screen. I think it might have something to do with the priority windows gives to the screen routine compared to (searching for) network. As of yet I have been unable to find a way to increase priority for the screen or lower it for network, though I browsed through the registry pretty extensively. Suggestions from anyone on this would be most welcome.

M3100 thinks something is constantly tapping top right corner of screen

I've been trying some WM6 roms on my M3100 (Black and two versions from Faria so far, along with HardSPL and the latest radio rom). While they all seem to work very stably for the most part, I find that if I turn the wireless on after a few minutes the phone starts reading constant tapping on the top right corner. So if I'm in landscape mode, the Start menu keeps popping in and out, and if I'm in portrait it hits the close button and everything I've got open disappears.
I've read about some Hermes having alignment issues, but I'm not sure this is to do with alignment, it seems to read other taps correctly if I touch the screen while it's malfunctioning, but it doesn't stop reading tapping in the top right.
A soft reset or turning the wireless off usually cures it for a while, but as soon as the Wi-Fi is on it can start again. If I turn the phone off fully, it seems to last longer when the Wi-Fi is on. It's almost like it's overheating and turning it off means it starts off cooler and has longer to heat up. Black was much worse than Faria's for this, as it had more stuff running by default. I had a devil of a time getting it stable enough for ActiveSync to work so I could flash something else.
I've tried searching the forums and I couldn't see anything, but I might not be using the right search terms. Has anyone seen this before and can you offer any advice/fixes? If not I'll probably make the long slog back to WM5!
Thanks for any help you can give.
This is a common problem with the Hermes. Search for touchscreen problems and you'll find you're not the only one with the problem. My previous one had the exact same symtoms, only it did it when the ambient temp was about 90F or so. I'd advise you to either look at getting it repaired, or look for another one. It's not going to fix itself

also try the business card fix on your hermes maybe your screen protector is hitting or the foam liner inside has jammed itself. or maybe something like a piece if dirt has lodged itself in there. there are many things that could cause this some being hardware other being dirt dust chunks of stuff
If it appears when it heats up (sounds like it does), chances are you're looking at a repair/warranty. Just sent one in to HTC with the same problem. I replaced the screen myself and thought for a day or two it was fixed, but as soon as it went on the charger for the first time the phantom tapping returned.
Thanks for the help guys! I'll have a look and see if there's anything trapped in the corner or if the seal is pressing on it and if not I'll get it repaired/swapped.
unfortunately, my M3100 does the same problem as yours, photoboy..
i noticed the problem starts when the pda gets warm..
anyway, tomorrow i'll take the "toy" to warranty.. and see how it can be fixed

Stock Tab 3 - Screen Flickers

I just recently got a T217S from Sprint, had it about 2 weeks, running all stock, 4.42 Android. Ran fine the first week, then I noticed that the screen would start to flicker. Doesn't change colors, just flickers. Playing with the brightness can sometimes cause it to stop temporarily, but it starts again almost immediately. The level of brightness doesn't make a difference, neither does any applications I'm running. I've rebooted it into safe mode and without even touching it, it started flickering less than 30 seconds after booting. I've google the heck out of this and it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, but an Android problem. I would like to avoid a factor reset if I can, especially until I get solid proof that it would FIX the problem. So far, no one can even tell me WHY it's doing it.
HELP???

D850 Screen unresponsive randomly HELP!....please?

Hello everyone, I just recently got a G3 and it was working fine for the 1st 2 days, no issues. I was sending a text to a friend earlier today and after it sent, it completely froze. After doing a soft reset it took forever to boot up. Once it booted up, it seemed to be fine. about an hour of operation, the screen looked as if it was freezing because it wasn't recognizing any of my touches. i decide to flip the phone sideways to see if it was actually frozen but it changed to landscape just fine. Sometimes it comes back to life then goes off again shortly after, and other times, i have to soft reset. I've tried the following to no avail.
Took the phone apart and cleaned both connectors.
Re-flashing the rom.
Trying 4 other roms.
Returned to lollipop stock.
I can't figure this out for the life to me and worked my ass of to be able to buy this phone. Any help would be appreciated as I can't afford to spend any more money on it!
I also have this issue, it's been ongoing for a few weeks. There will be short periods where it can work just fine, then it just freezes up and does not register any inputs. The content on the screen continues to run as if nothing happened (videos and games keep playing). Turning the screen off, waiting a couple minutes, then turning it on can sometimes give me another minute of use until it freezes up again. Also of note, when the screen is unresponsive and I press the power, it will dim to very low levels for a few seconds before going fully black. When the screen is being responsive and I press the power, it goes straight to black, as is normal and expected. From my testing, I've concluded:
1. This issue is not app dependent. It can occur at any time, and is not caused by alarms or overlays, such as blue light filters.
2. The issue is not from the specific battery I use. I've switched out between multiple batteries and used different chargers, none seem to affect the frequency of freezes.
3. Temperature may have something to do with this. When waking the phone after it's been sitting out in the cold, there seems to be a higher likelihood that it will be unresponsive. This is not always the case, which makes concluding that the issue is hardware related difficult, but some correlation seems to exist.
4. This issue started occurring shortly before I began having the popular "SIM Card Removed" issue, which I've yet to resolve (though can sometimes get the SIM card to work)
I am running stock 6.0 D85030p AT&T. I will post here again if I figure something out, but I have been trying for weeks without much success.

my pixel c gone mad

Hi all,
I've recently got this tablet from Google store (and out of stock now).
After installed all things needed, a serious problem has appeared during in use. Its screen unexpectly trembles, pops notification out, runs and closes apps randomly then unable touchscreen at all. These make me crazy even in screen saver, and power button doesn't work sometimes to stop those happenings.
The device hasn't rooted and staying as 'pure' with only afew apps, so I've done erasing system cache partition on recovery mode and factory reset twice to solve this problem.
Nothing happened so far since reset the device but is still unsettling.. and now I just supposed touching screen badly (with sweaty fingers for example) or the screen protect film I affixed since unboxing might cause the problem.
Does anyone faces a problem like this?
Regards,
Allen
If it was greasy fingers my tablet would be completely unusable. Luckily a quick clean sorts any issues that causes.
My first suspicion would be the screen protector, as mine has done similar when there was something touching the screen. Maybe try taking it off and seeing how it goes? You can also turn on show taps in the Developer Options to be able to see what touches the tablet is detecting when it goes mad.
Better than before

Thanks for your reply. Now I've used a BT mouse to match with mine and less touch on the screen apparently. Nothing happened so far.
It's not a problem of hardware I supposed and pretty sure that the screen protector interferes a certain touch as you commented. Still my eyes are keeping on what caused the problem.
