Is there a cab file that will enable microSDHC on WM 6 release?
wm6 based roms support sdhc.
only thing to note is you may need to format it on your PC before the phone will recognize it - or so I read somewhere

Not sure about that. Mine was read by the phone straight out of the box. Bapski is correct WM6 supports 4gb SDHC. My XP Laptop doesn't recognise it Go figure.
I used Dopods Official WM6 Rom. Will that work?

AFAIK it should work out of the box with Dopod Official, though I use Schaps WM6 3.57...
does wm6 support the new 8gb micro sds from sandisk?
Lets hope so, although I suppose it´ll be a while before we´ll know as general release of these cards is not scheduled until early 2008... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318413&page=5
8GB?! OK, well this officially renders the iPhone as obsolete as far as I'm concerned
(I love my 8525 and I bump into people from time to time who have the iPhone thinking that they have the best thing around ... ... not that the 8525 is, but I certainly think it has more capabilities than the iPhone, aside from the storage ...)
If HTC did some advertising like Apple.. it would be a whole different story in my opinion.
So the general consensus is there is no cab file for microSDHC?
yes, there is no .cab file that will enable microsSDHC support.
The drivers themselves are part of the XIP which can't be changed or updated by a cab file.

Has anyone attempted to port the OS onto the XDA yet?
I know this is still very early days - but I was so happy with by Yorch ROM kitchen WM2003 upgrade for my XDA1 - I was wondering whether we are likely to see the second edition upgrade here at some point.
Is anyone looking into the feasability - I know certain IPAQ devices have already been given the upgrade by the OEM and that certain models are not compatable due to ROM size??
Also - is there the possibility that the windows media centre mobile OS may make it onto the XDA?? I only ask because I have read that the 4gb microdrive from the muvo2 works in the backpack CF slot - byebye mini Ipod.
I know there are legal issues involved - but I am more interested in the logistical factors and possibilities at the moment?
Let me know what you think.
Jayman
i dont think that any of the 2003 versions were portet from another type of pda
they were as far as i know all based on 2003 versions beta and otherwise from tmobile, o2 and siemens
not sure if one could port a rom from like an ipaq
since it may have a different hardware
maybe O2?
I've read several time on the web that O2 will release the WM2003SE upgrade. Seriously. Don't know how reliable this info is though :?
Does anyone know when O2 is likely, if ever, to release a AKU3 ROM? Heard some good things, and not so good things, but would welcome the upgrade.
Answers on a postcard please
Univerval is EOL so not shure we will see an official AKU3 ROM
EOL???????
What do you guys recommend then????
Nokia N95 looks pretty cool!!!
I have upgraded my exec to AKU 3.2 and it works a treat, I seem to have lost task manager but gained other apps such as usb hdd option, I've had no hick ups yet.
mark,
can you give me rough guide of how you did this?
Thanks
No further AKUs for O2 customers then...?????????

You did not miss an announcment, you just missed the obvious signs. The MDA Pro is dropped from T-Mobile's catalog, the Qtek 9000 is increasingly difficult to come by. The Universal device is around a year old. That's ancient for a PDA. It's successor has not been announced yet, but rumours are already to be heard ...
Manufacturers just rarely announce this kind of thing in order to make sure that old stocks can be sold.

How do you go about connecting a Mass Storage Device to the Univesal on AKu 3.2? Do i need any special cable or something?
Keen to know, before I even upgrade to it.
So where to now..... I like the VGA, I like the keyboard and I can live with the other problems to have the first 2????
So where do we go from here. Don't know about anyone else but I like the format of the XDA EXEC ie keyboard and VGA etc and can put up with the faults...........
Anyone in the know as to what would be considered an upgrade?

There is no way to directly connect a HDD to the Uni. It doesn't support USB hosting.
There is a topic of someone who says they have a Wi-Fi caddy connecting to the device and using it that way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280193
wait a second!
I e-mailed O2 to ask whether they are planning to release any new ROMS and got the following response:
"Thank you for your email.
At the moment we don’t have any information on whether or not a ROM version with the AKU3 will be available for the XDA Exec. We are usually advised of a new ROM for the XDA series 4-6 weeks prior to their release but we haven’t heard anything yet. As the XDA Exec hasn’t reached the end of its life cycle there should be a new ROM versions released.
If you have any further queries please contact us."

Could the XDA Flame be the replacment that we are all looking for??
"The Xda Flame encapsulates everything the O2 brand stands for - innovation and performance in a sleek, beautiful, desirable package. The Xda Flame breaks technology barriers by being the first dual processor PDA-phone, incorporating the powerful NVIDIA GoForce GPU for sublime screen graphics, movie playback, photo viewing, and gaming performance, on top of a 520MHz Intel processor chip. A large 3.6' VGA touchscreen and a host of multimedia features ensure that customers stay productive and are entertained while on the go."
Have there any devices running Windows Mobile 6 been announced?
If not, when will be most likely the time when we see devices with Windows Mobile 6? How likely will it be that Operators like T-Mobile will supply an WM6 upgrade for the HTC Universal ?

can you post a link or send me a link in PM , I'd like to try Xbow on universal
Cheers
I would like to try Crossbow tooo. Post the link or up the screenshot from uni, if you are not lier !
This has been said MANY times now.
People can't post links to Crossbow because the only people *supposed* to have it are OEM channel partners, and authorised developers.
The people that might have it other than these have obtained it from friends or colleagues, and do not want to get into trouble.
This was the same when WM5 came out, WM2003se, and WM2003.
If it gets posted here, the forum will get threatened with legal action, the same as when someone uploaded WM5 before it's release last year.
What we do here bends the rules, and Microsoft tollerate us because we provide support and a sense of community that the platform would miss quite badly if we were shut down.
Please don't keep forcing this people, you will get it when the time is right, just as we did with every other OS.
Some devices will get it, some won't. Just like WM5. Be patient.

Ye that would be good. I would like to discuss the bugs on this thing. Too many bugs as i see. Some of the noticed bugs.
1. WiFi can only be activated by going into start->settings or via the comm center. It cannot be activated/deactivated from the taskbar.
2. My 4GB and 8GB cards both got their MBR damaged.
3. Windows media player 10 usually hangs up or skips tracks on the SD card.
(SD card problem mostly)
These are the 3 bugs that i notice the most and ofcourse cant forget the video calling. It has MS Voice command installed on it which is a good thing. Also Smart dialing works in my crossbow ROM.

Nuclear,
Discussing features or supposed bugs for an unreleased product most likely run on an old unsupported device is akin to posting screen shots. It is advised that you avoid this on this or any board.
First off the news comes from MSMobiles.com (great site, bookmark it)
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6049.html
Check out the site for the full story but here is what I found to be interesting.
MSMobiles.com:
"Now it is not just a mention on a blog of some Microsoft employee but official story from Microsoft! Interestingly some Windows Mobile phones powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6, including T-Mobile Dash (i.e. HTC Excalibur)!"
From the Official MS Press Release:
"...By the second quarter of this year, the world will see the first Windows Mobile 6 powered devices available on the market. In Europe, Orange plans to deliver the SPV E650 smartphone from HTC, and in Japan, SoftBank Mobile Corp. will offer new devices from Toshiba and HTC. And in the United States, the popular T-Mobile Dash will be updated with Windows Mobile 6 and be available in the coming months. Current T-Mobile Dash owners will also be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6. "
Current T-Mobile Dash owners will be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6."
Again, all this info can be found at the link above so go check out the rest of it.

WM6 Standard does come with some Office editing, but not as much as WM6 Pro.
either way, it will be nice. it is very rare that a new os is being offered for an older device, but a good change of pace.
It's really not that old. It's had a very limited release and there hasn't been the first hint of a FW update.
I was hoping we would luck out. Looks like we did!

WD6 (STD) just made The Dash the best out!
You will be able to edit office documents with WM6 (STD)

I am sure that Microsoft is trying to establish the same flexibility with their PDA OS as they have with the PC OS. No reason why an OS should be upgradable.

There's nothing earth shattering in it. In the middle of his presentation he showed a bunch of stuff on his Dash (running generic excalibur WM6) which was cool but the rest was kind of old news for those of us running crossbow already.

Big props to kavana and others for their excellent work, but I'm always uneasy about installing unofficial/unintended ROMs. If I knew that an official 6.1 ROM was coming, say within the year, I might stick with 1.33 for now. Are there any rumors or rumblings at all about a possible release date? Or has it been confirmed NOT to be coming?

Be careful, especially if T-Mobile does not support SDHC cards. The US roms limit you to 2gb. The 1.33 rom allows at least 8gb (I use one).
I can not understand why T-Mobile US does not allow SDHC in their rom, when the actual OEM supplier of their phone supports SDHC with the Dash.
I would think it constrains their sales.

with respect the the SDHC and lack of support. and retro-support via new ROM. As far as marketing is concerned, if they release a new phone that supports SDHC and is more expensive than the DASH i would understand why they would choose not to retro-support SDHC for the dash since people won't be as apt to buy a new phone for the SDHC support if they already have a phone that already supports SDHC.....i don't like it, but i would understand their reasons

Are we getting Android on the S620? The pictures of a device running Android look more like an S640.
Back on topic: I will wait for someone to cook up something nice after the official drops.
this thread was started about an official 6.1 release, so we shouldn't get distracted with android.
I'm not sure why you would want a new unproven OS anyway. WM has zillions of applications and works quite nicely. I'll wait for 2 years after android is live before even considering it.
quite frankly I would like an official HTC 1.33 release, which doesn't seem to be around yet.
The Excalibur, although used much in practice isn't high on the support list i think. HTC will put its effeorts into the new devices and not the older ones ...
However I would also like to see an Official 6.1 ROM for it ...
Official release date
Apparently the official release date will be Apr 1.
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/13612/14636/windows-mobile-61-coming-april.phtml
Of course, that doesn't mean there will be an official update on that date or anytime near that date, but since the Dash is still a high profile T-Mobile phone, I'm going to guess it will be released soon.
Also, I had a quick conversation with some Windows mobile people at the MS booth during a recent event, they said to expect a release soon. (His words, 'don't worry, it's not going to be a September release, you'll see it much sooner')
Now that the dust had settled, does anyone know if we will ever get an official upgrade to 6.1 for the S620? It doesn't seem to appear in any of the official microsoft lists
(Thankfully cooked ROMs exist )
