BA touchscreen will not lineup - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

some how, some where I believe a file or setting has become corrupted or deleted.
I had to replace the touchscreen (which was successfully done) and then moved away from the BA to use some other devices. when I came back to my trusty ole BA the screen would not properly line up with where i was expecting it to. Worse, when I would try to re-align the screen, it would not take the settings and continue to revert to the beginning of the sequence until i did a hard reset.
I did a ton of serching in the registry and the windows folder in hopes of locating anything...but I'm at a loss. A perfectly good BA with a ganked touch alignment.
that makes me a sad panda.
any suggestions?

constant resets on O2 xda orbit

i've had my orbit for around a month and a half now, and it's brilliant other than a few problems.
firstly the only additional programs i've installed are:
SPB Diary
SPB Pocket Plus
I do have tomtom but i haven't re-installed that since my last hard reset.
so the problems are as follows:
every now and then when i try to unlock my phone, it seems to hang, with the screen staying bright but no response no matter what i try - the obvious solution is to soft reset which works 9/10 times
however, occasionally, i get a problem where the soft reset does not work correctly. The O2 screen appears (as expected) but about 1 second after the windows mobile screen appears, the screen goes completely dark and will not come on....
This has happened many times (sometimes on a daily basis) and the only solutaion i had worked out was to hard reset and take it back to factory settings - very annoying having to go through everything altering my settings so frequently following a hrd reset.
This problem also occured just a minute ago. i decided to do a hard reset and plugged the phone into my laptop so i could synchronise all my contacts back on. However i plugged it in before a hard reset was performed. Magically the screen lit back up! i was overjoyed, thinking i'd found a solution! so i unplugged it happily. thinking i wouldn't have to hard reset but the screen goes black as soon as i unplug it from the laptop...
i have since changed the brightness settings so that it's always on full brightness. this seems to have worked and avoided me the hassle of a hard reset. However i fear this is only a temporary solution
So my questions are:
is it common for the Orbit to hang regularly, causing me to perform around 1 soft reset per day??
Are the programs i have listed known to cause such problems?
Also has anyone else had such problems?
I've considered sending the phone back for an exchange for a new orbit? is this a good idea or may i expect the same with another, newer orbit (i've neverr really had a pda/phone before so i'm a little bit of a noob in this area!)
THANKS for any help, will be much appreciated!
CHEERS!
It sounds like a faulty Orbit to me. Although I did run SPB Pocket Plus on my Orbit I found it so sluggish with the Orbits slow processor that I removed it and haven't used it for months.
What happens if you:
1) Hard reset
2) Remove Active sync from your computer by the usual PC "add/remove" programs, and then go into the appropriate PC directory and manually remove what's left
3) Re-boot PC
4) Reinstall Active sync (which version are you using? I found AS 4.2 stable in a Win XP Home environment, syncing with Outlook 2002, then more latterly with Outlook 2007
5) Just synchronise your Outlook basics i.e. Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and nothing else.
6) If you use a Micro SD card install the HTC SD Card patch (see links elswhere in the forum for the patch)
If this setup is stable for a day or two, then try adding sometheng else back on, avoiding Pocket Plus for the moment.
If the basic setup is unstable, I suggest your Orbit is faulty. Mine runs quite stably, and currently running in a Vista Ultimate environment without problem.

Can a Moderator please remove this duplicate, I've no idea why it happened!
i have good news (kind of)! after upping the backlight in system settings the screen does not appear to go blank anymore.
i tested this by turning the brightness down - the screen (almost) instantly went blank and would not come back on after a soft reset.. however i took it home, plugged it in (my settings are for full brightness when attatched to a power source, in the test i only changed the brightness when not connected to a power source) re-adjusted the brightness and it works fine again now - in the past, this would have called for a hard reset due to the screen refusing to come on!
I've since found another thread on the forum from another user who seemed to have the screen going blank problem, he/she also cited turning up the brightness (even though that sounds obvious!) as the solution - which is strange as the screen doesn't go dimmer as such, it goes completely black, i cannot see anything at all!
however i have had a crash still...
to answer the above, i am running:
AS 4.2, as mentioned
XP media centre edition
AMD Turion 64 X2
and i have installed the SD corruption fix , even when i first got the phone and hadn't installed it SD never corrupted though (newer build maybe??)
I don't really use outlook to sync emails anyway - the only things i sync are the basics that u mentioned (including notes as well, sorry). i don't think there is much point in doing a hard reset as i think i only cleared everything around 2/3 days ago.
i will however remove spb pocket plus for the mean while, do u think i should also remove spb diary whilst i'm at it to ensure the device is completely clean?
i would like to point out however pocket plus is not running all that slow at all... the reason i installed pocket plus was for the closing of a program when the "x" is clicked, rather than minimising them (as is standard!).
Anybody know any registry fixes for this so i need not install any additional programs to access this feature? or at a push, a smaller program that offers only a minimal set of features including this specific one?
One thing i have noticed, is that the more programs i install the more likely it is to crash, this seems trend seems to occur irregardless of which particular software i have installed (which is why, for the moment, i havent even reinstalled tomtom - i'm just leaving all the installation and maps on my SD card for when i need them!)
The problem is, as of yet, i have not worked out whether previously i had to hard reset simply because the screen didn't come and i had not resolved this issue yet, on or due to something else - however, each time i had to hard reset the screen would go dark and unresponsive! As i said though, the stalls and soft resets continue for the time being!
thanks for the continued help
D'OH!
screen just went blank, and no response from device, guess my solution of upping the brightness settings has only improved the problem, not resolved it!
ARGH!

SMS not working anymore (and it happened already in the past but...)

Hi,
I have a VODAFONE 1605 (a plain Hermes 200, a TyTN). It had the original Italian Vodafone WM5 ROM until last month when I decided upgrading it.
I first tried the CH Vodafone version of WM6 ROM, but I had to remove it quickly because for no apparent reason, it was not working with SMS at all (no SMS out, no SMS in...).
I then decided to use HTC WM6 ITA ROM and to apply manually all the needed configurations to use it with my VODAFONE.
It run perfectly until yesterday, when it stopped sending and receiving SMS.
This is very strange as I did not install any program since one week (at least) and it seems difficult for me to be able to find any reason.
Probably the pim.vol file grew too much it is not anymore able to handle more SMS (provided the infos are inside there) ?
I have no explanations available to me and I was not able to find any kind of hint digging into the forum...
I was only able to find some other people with similar problems in the last few days but on different platforms...
Is this maybe a WM6 bug ???
Any hint appreciated.
I'll in the meaningwhile backup all of my infos and proceed to a HR... I'll keep my fingers crossed...
Dear Mix,
I wish I could give you a good answer, but... well, maybe the answer is not really an answer, but it could be at least an hint for other people like you (ME !!!).
You do not want to lose all of your settings, all of your received SMS, you do not want to waste a lot of time setting everything as it was before, so an HR is REALLY the LAST solution for you. You would like to find a tricky path to follow to bypass this unlucky situation...
You already tried to SOFT RESET your device but you did not succeed. The problem is still there...
Well, there seems to be another kind of RESET, before the HARD RESET.
I would define it the "DEEP SOFT RESET", which is something more than a SOFT RESET, but it is right before the HARD RESET.
This kind of reset solved the above problem. I don't know why, I don't know how. It only worked.
The DEEP SOFT RESET is this: press OK and ON button and while pressing those two buttons, put your stilus into the reset hole, pressing the recessed switch. This will place you into the BOOTLOADER MODE.
Keep the device there, showing all the colors and Bootloader information for around 20 seconds at least (obviously, not connected to any cable).
Then, put your stylus again into the hole for resetting and press the internal swith one time more (without pressing any other button).
Your device will reset again, your data will still be into your TyTN and your TyTN will start loading all the data it still has inside.
As soon as I did this, the waiting SMS started reaching their addressee and they moved to "sent" folder.
Again, I'M SURE THIS DID NOT WORK WITH A NORMAL SOFT RESET (I ALREADY DID THIS 20 TIMES !!!). And again, I don't know wither HOW and WHY.
It only worked.
Good luck.
UPDATE:
I've noticed that the problem aroused again and I did a DEEP investigation, with a complete reset of my Hermes...
I then placed all the same programs inside and again no problem...
Problem came back once I used a program called Hermes Tweaker v2.1b which tweaks some parameters around in the WM device...
Once I reset the parameters to default again, the problem went away.
I'll have to discover which parameter is creating the problem...
I'll post the results here (beside fit4cat's pm...)
Good luck.

hx2755

hey guys.. quick question.. I broke my screen for the hx2755 so I bought a new LCD for it. Installed it, etc.. Reloaded the OS tried WM6, WM2k3 problem is on the alignment screen it won't ever align. I go through the process and it keeps telling me to align constantly. Any ideas?
can you get passed the alignment state at all? If not:
Hook your PDA up to your computer. When activesync runs, just cancel out of the enrollment process and then explore your PDA.
Go to the /windows directory and then to the /startup directory.
Delete the welcome program out of there and soft reset.
Your screen may be damaged and unusable (touch wise). You will find that out very quickly!

sgh i780 screen can't align pls help

i make hard reset to my fhone, then i can't align my screen,i align my screen many times.nothing happen.

so,what hapen to you fhone now? my fhone still under waranty, and i send to fmg service centre and they said maybe touch panel problem, did you fix you fhone ready?
Screen Align problem
Me too having the same problem after hard reset
I think its a problem with the latest wm6.1 roms.
Align must be a bit "off" to work...although I havent found a pattern yet...
Download PHM RegEdit, install and create/modify this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="501,489 781,231 778,770 232,759 232,225"
These should work quite OK
sent back samsung is touch panel hardware problem so change a new touch panel... Thanks, it can not go in to windows at all so cant edit registry

I could have cooked a version that applies the necessary calibration data via provxml.. but alas it's too late now

You guys walking around one main problem.
Touchsreen of your phone appears to be broken, when allign test is not passed its becames by fault of touchscreen. Doesnt matter what firmware do you use. Its just warrancy repair, if you have it. Mostly is replacing of touchscreen.
Donst listen to advises to pass this test is hardware fault.

hi, "welcome.not" worked for my samsung sgh-i780 very good.
I could start my phone without any alignment, but i'm sure, that in near future i will need to change touch screen.

Thanks for this tip. Now I can use my phone till the touchscreen is replaced/repaired.
Yeap "welcome.not" worked for me. i connect the device with windows device center since i am using windows 7 . then i naviagte to the root folder of the phone and put a blank welcome.not file and reboot it starts with out asking the align screen and now my phone is working fine. no need of the touch since i have a full qwerty key and a senser mouse. thank you so much.
No way, it must work. It shouln't have 2 extensions 4 example : welcome.not.txt or similar. It should be just WELCOME.NOT.
@au22ru
It's not necessary to copying to root AND root of sd, it could be one root, but i preffer to have this file on sd, because after flash root of internal memory is deleted.
@yonylove
check the attachment. Unzip and copy to your sd.

hi heineken,
This thread started 2 years ago, but is still relevant for people like me..
My i780 also have TS problem.. at first, it started small only. Align Screen takes about 5x before it aligns, works for awhile, then misalign again. Then I Align again, maybe takes 10x now, work for a while, then not work again. I even re-Flashed ROM.
Now, I try to align it I must have tried tapping crosshairs 100x already, wont get aligned. And I cant quit the Alignment screen so I take out the battery to power off then on again.
From what I understand,
#1.. TS is now broken, Hardware (Screen) problem? no other fix, as you say above?
#2.. This "Welcome.not" solution at first gave me hope.. I thought there is simple fix, until I understand it now.. I think now if I REFLASH Rom, the phone will first ask you to Align Screen and since i cant, Ill be stuck there forever, right? Even if I take out the battery?
Therefore as long as my TS is broken, I SHOULD NOT REFLASH or I will be stuck? Am I right? And if I do get stuck then the solution is "Welcome.Not". (At least there's a way out) Did I get it?
I can still use mouse and keyboard, but Im not happy because I have lots of apps that use TS. Like GPS software when Im driving, as well as many games. It even makes swiping or reading sms hard with defective TS.
Fortinately, I think I may have a solution for me.
I still have that old bricked i780 (dead) somewhere. I bought a replacement and this one Im using now has the defective TS. (Maybe because I buy it 2nd hand.. although it was working fine the first few months)
QUESTION: Can I take the dead i780 to a celphone technician and ask him to replace the TS panel on my current one? That should work, yes? Problem is many celphone technicians are not familiar with the i780 model, but they work with a lot of Touchscreen phones. This should be easy for them to do and it should work, yes? (unless it is a chip issue or something more technical)
The reason Im asking for advice is I want to be careful now who I allow to open up my phone and mess with it. I suspect the last time maybe my 1st phone could still be revived properly but I showed it to many technicians maybe along the way someone permanently killed it.
Thanks for any advice!

[Q] Touch Screen Problem

Recently I began to notice a problem with my phone. Whenever I have the keyboard slid out the touch screen is almost non-responsive. So over the past few days I've tried observing what the exact problem is and I think it could be the cable/ribbon that connects the touch screen to the keyboard. I'll have to tilt the screen back and forth before it will actually recognize me touching it. And I've noticed when I rub that ribbon it seems to work. There's also a crease in the ribbon where it folds on it when you close it. I believe this is the problem but I'm not sure and I want any advice/tips I can get. If it is the cable can you order a new one and replace it yourself?
Thanks in advance
Any ideas anyone? I cant get it to half work so I can text and stuff but I have to press it hard and it still wont work at times so something somewhere or another is wrong.

Flash the stock ROM and SPL, and do a warranty exchange. This isn't a device you want to open up unless you really know what you're doing and are certain of the issue. If you really want to give it a go, then just buy a non-functioning unit from eBay to use for parts. They can normally be had for less than $40.
Wow, I cant believe that I finally found someone with the same problem as I have.
At first I thought that it was a software issue and I reloaded the software on my device.
The screen responds to presses with the keyboard in, but extended it doesnt respond and only the external keyboard works.
So to type a nice long sms I would have to start it on my display, flick out the keyboard to carry on and then flick it back in before I could press send or anything.
How frustrating.
But I did a test now and flicking the keyboard out and then slowly slowly pushing it back in I can get to a stage where both the external keyboard and screen responds at the same time again.
Definitely a ribbon problem or something.
Only had this phone for a few months now and if it already doing this then I am not feeling too obtimistic about its future.
Well, time to take it in for a warranty repair. I wonder how much greaf I am in for now.
Time to pull out my awesome trusty Artemis out the cuboard.

I had a friend that had this problem with his TP2 which I've successfully repaired. First thing if you want to do it yourself, go to youtube and look for the Rhodium disassembly video (this will help you a lot). It is not difficult to change any parts in the phone provided that you proceed with caution and take the necessary precautions.
If you are afraid or have never opened up a phone to fix parts, then I would suggest to send it to HTC - this would be devastating if you managed to break up the motherboard by mistake or any other parts in the process of fixing the flex cable.
Tripp --
Did you ever find resolution to your problem? Recently my phone started having the same problem, which I originally thought was related to messing up the calibration file when I put loaded xdandroid GBX0A.
However, it sounds like my problem is pretty similar to yours -- touchscreen works fine when the keyboard is closed, but when it is open it only registers on the bottom of the screen -- which is actually useful in some sense because I can still hit the soft keys in the messaging app and such, but not so useful if you want to scroll using the touch screen. If I play around with the z-hinge a bit, sometimes it starts working -- which sounds like the same thing that you described.
Sorry, I just seen your post but I never fixed mine as I went ahead and bought another phone (Evo) but I did research the problem quite extensively and the problem I believe lies in the ribbon that connects the two halves of the phone. If I remember correctly the motherboard is in the side with the keyboard and that's why when it's slide out, the touch screen won't respond correctly. You can find the part online and replace it yourself. I've taken mine apart and it's not that hard but as said, you need the right tools and to be very careful.
Hi guys
I have tried all the above
Last resort is i got sprite backyup to work
BUT HOW THE HELL DO YOU HIT "NEXT" OR "OK" FROM THE KEYBOARD AS SCREEN DOESNT WORK????
