I noticed that whenever you touch the screen, the device slows down BIG TIME. I mean if you try to use a CPU utilization app, it will show you that whenver you touch the screen, CPU utilization immediately jumps to 41-45%! And if you try, there is no way that you can actually play touchscreen games like Skyforce or KRally because of this problem.
I just want to know, is this problem ROM specific? for WM6? WM5? or is it really just a flaw in the device? I searched and found out here that the Trinity also suffers from this. I used to have a Himalaya and a Universal, and this was never a problem.
Is there a known solution for this?
I hope nobody will mention overclocking as a solution. Cause even overclocked, it is still slow.
HTC Advantage X7500 with 624Mhz CPU is suffering same problem.

Looks like it's an HTC problem, and don't hesitate to write to HTC support for complaining
cheers
I guess nobody really cares about this issue and nobody tried to fix it. Not even HTC.. oh well.. I guess Hermes devices are just not bound for stylus intensive type games.
same thing..

Dude, avoid speaking in tagalog.
I'm using WM6 TNT 2.0 Pro.. I also tried Schaps' ROMs, but it's a little slow for my taste. But regardless of the ROM, it still suffers from this issue. Also tried the ATI fix, no effect. It's either a bad hardware or driver design/fault.. and sadly, nobody could fix it.
I think Ill bring this topic back to life...anyone found a solution?
I've noticed this a lot in games like skyforce. Makes the game a lot easier though Hope someone comes up with a fix.
want just to bring this back to life again
as I know this haven't been fixed yet
Would be really cool if somebody has a solution
Other phones have this problem got fixed so why not ours too?

Yeah! really appreciate if someone already figured out the reason behind this..
I can't even play skyforce on my Hermes which I enjoy playing on my O2 XDA II mini.
I have the same problem, i try to remove "HTC Home", from Today Menu.
Now its work fine.
I hope that is the solution
I have TyTn II with WM 6.1
well you must know that We have a strong arm processor... samsung... very powerfull at 400mhz nice but the god dam ati accelerator makes the issue!
even tho in newer builds in 6.5.1... we are experiencing new issue touch response at repeatedly tapping...
So i think is a mix betwen Processor acelerator and the OS... If you are in winmo6.5.1 and you dislike that delay at tapping this key allows you to tap more fast not so fast as first 6.5 but good enogh to continue with the sip typing... the games are... games... Skyforce in a Universal with almost 600mhz has the same delay... in 6.1 and 6.5 so... in games the procesor is important but the stability and the PAGEPOOL is the meaning of our troubles. i have cook with 4 PP and the new IE cant works fine but skyfire works good... MSFT develops his PP at 15mb!!!!! to test the speed on IE... just to reinforce my point of view...
the reg to fix the delay at touch response ( alil fix )...

Well, with a raw CPU power test (using 7zip's built-in test) it comes as good as XScale at the same clock frequency so it seems it's really powerful.
Thank's for the response.
I try to find your key, but there isn't. I use PHM Registry Editor, i use also "Find", but nothing.
Thank you

Hello, I decided to get the XDA Orbit instead rather then the wifi less MDA. Ive searched but could not find a result. How can I change the new text message sound alert to something a bit more...well me?! Don't fancy a dog barking!!
change the mp3 into a wav and drop it into the windows folder
thanks for that I have more questions, please can you help me?
ive only had mine a little time but go ahead, im sure if I cant help someone else can!
My friend overclocks his orbit with some software but he won't tell me because hes being a meany:-( I know about overclocking the risks etc. Id just like to give mine a tiny boost. Anyone know any reliable free app?
ive just done it 5 mins ago, ill find the stuff for you, its in this section of the forum
this is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282006
direct link to software with instructions: http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
ive clokced mine to 260mhz and notice the difference immediatley when browsing, people have gone higher but I read one post on the thread said that over 273mhz and TomTom locks up
mine has been stable so far for the moment
I have tried omapclock and other overclocking apps but find them unstable and difficult to use (well im a newbie to overclocking).. till i found Anton Tomov Pocket Hack Master! It runs smoothly on my machine and it is very configurable... you can even set a specific speed to different applications... and it also does automatic scaling so you dont always run at full speed when using non demanding applications. It has automatic overclock testing and informs you that a certain Mhz setting is unstable on your machine.
Wass up guys and gals,
I've been happily using Imate Jasjar/cingular 8125 for the longest time but i just got the softbank version of HTC tytn. I must say that it feels very good using the tytn because of its size (specially if you are moving over from jasjar)
Anyways i upgraded my tytn to Schaps WM6 WWE version 3.54C but i am confused about the fact that my wizard still runs alot faster and stable then the tytn. i even get better signal on my wizard where as my tytn only gets 2 or 3 bars. I am also not able to play some vids in tcpmp even after trying this http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/htc-hermes/10022-updated-hermes-tcpmp-v0-81-unofficial-hybrid-media-player-all-codecs-here.html
Guys tytn is suppose to be an upgrade from wizard but it seems to me that wizard is a more stable device???
Let me know what you guys think about this and also are there any other ROMS better then the 1 i am currently running?? if so then pls do let me know u guys.
Thanks alot in advance
I'll be waiting for all your replies....

do you own a wizard with UMTS\HSDPA ?
I'm jocking , in many things you are right....
Well, I have not had the same experience. It is possible that some added apps you are running are causing conflicts. I would make sure you have the latest versin of whatever ROM you are using.
I have great stability with Black Satin and I hear that many are very good - Schaps (as you are using), VP3G, Sleuth (sorry if I missed any).
Try your rom with few other apps for a while and see if stability and responsiveness improve. Also, you probably do not want to judge reception based on bars, but rather by performance. Bars are just drawn on there - not really a strong indicator of reception quality.
Good luck.
Thanks alot for your replies u guys,
The only 3rd party software iam running is TCPMP and thats it nothing else.
I guess at this point my only and biggest issue is that iam not able to play some vids on tcpmp that played just fine on my jasjar
for example i have a 19 mb mpeg-4 clip that played just fine my on JJ but on my tytn it will play for about 5-10 secs and the gets stuck for 1-2 secs and so on...
I'll be a very happy man if there is a fix for this
Cheers
Anyone
Have you tried the ATIFix from Sleuth, take a look at

And try to get a copy of CorePlayer 1.1, better performance than TMPCP...

I've tried this keyboard on my P3300 but it made my device very slow. Even after a reset. I assume it just takes to much memory. I Personally would have enough by just heaving the full qwerty keyboard and not the other 2. This might even prevent the device from becoming to slow....
btw, removing it, took about 15 minutes!!!!!
I have same problem. My O2 Orbit is very slow with this keyboard.
I have a similar problem, my xda was really slow with the keyboard installed...... although the keyboard was good and worked fairly fast.
Like the above uninstalling took close to 15minutes.
I found that u-ninstalling the touch keypad/qwerty keyboard and then installing the diamond keyboard seemed to boost the speed a lot on my orbit

That does make sense, because a keyboard is put into the memory of the device. So putting in an extra kerboard, etc, would take even more memory, which results in a slow device.
How did you remove the Touch keypad/qweartykeyboard?

How I worked around the issue, however reflash was required.
For some reason even after uninstalling the keyboard my phone was still exceedingly slow i.e. going into the programs folder would take about 1 minute!!
This left me no choice but to reflash the device. After reflashing my phone with the Vanilla version of WM 6.1 the first thing I did was install the keyboard from the link ark666 suggested Link then I reinstalled all the other software I had on my phone Tom Tom, SPB etc. Phone now works fine and as fast as it used to be.
Really strange why it initially killed the phone, but guess it will be one of lifes many mysteries...................
I did create a post..asking if anyone had started work on this...
Got not one reply...
Seeing as i have them both.. x1 and HD..
So.. i thought.... Lets have a go....
Proof of concept only.....not a distributable version.
Sony Xperia X1 Panels.....Running on Touch HD
It's got a long way to go and lots of work needed... but it should
end up a very good addition to the Touch HD, and once done, work can commence on porting to different resolutions.
I like the look of this front end alot better than the TF3D
What do you guys reckon?

Staus Updates
11/12/2008
There has been advances but very slow ones, It has been very "finiky" getting those "right changes" to commit more "stability changes"
It is because the HD was never meant to host Panels, and thus, is causing me a real pain in the backside! I'm currently looking at different roms, and versions of software, to try alternate file versions, to see if a combination is what is needed. Once this part is done, it should address a great deal of issues. Upto about 3 Hard resets a night, I think i should have a special button to do it on the back!
03/12/2008
It has been brought to my attention, there is a Cab available on another thread, but i have no input on this.
It is at the same point i was about a month ago.
It is a simple copy and paste from a X1 and is unstable.
I did not put out a version like this, as It requires your phone be reset after running panels after about 5 times, and i am aware why.
I thought It would be unfair to users to give them something that would pretty much trash the stability of the HD.
You know where it is if you do not care about this, and just want to install it.
I will not be putting out my version till i know atleast it will not trash your phone. That would subtract from the work done, and after some of us spending 500GBP+ the last thing needed is a paperweight.

With the help of 'Keni'.. a new junior member... He has helped move us along also.. and produced...
The Panel icon on the titlebar.
It does need work.. and for it to function i need help again from nelshh
But he has no-doubt spent alot of time.. and got some code done.
I have to commend his effort.. and now wish to happily add him to the contributer list along with nelshh
See post 304 for pic and wmv
Thanks keni !
I am still working on te next alpha build and am struggling with the concurrence manager.
After using panels chooser anywhere from 5-10 times.. it egg timers out.. and batt out is the only recourse.

This has been such a painful last few days.... I have had unknown numbers of hard-resets trying to get the failing panels to operate properly.
2 developers are currently trying to help create the panel icon (see post 104) If anyone else can help aaswell...????
At the moment.. it's still doign my head in... but i am still working on this..

PS.. my wife also wants a developer to create a couple of buttons on her omnia.
One button = Husband puts down phones!
Two Button = Husband does not grunt when asked question by her.. cos he is engrossed in panels!
Three button = Husband does not buy another new phone ever ever ever again!
I told her.. this is impossible... but she still asked me to find out.

The Alpha Cab has gone out to 5 selected testers.
This is a test version.. with many bugs.
So far.. this is the feedback
It installs.
It launches
It works
However.
Media panel & Facebook panel don't work on Alpha 0.02
Panel launcher Working. 3 testers had issues with relaunches after 5 times. It then becomes unresponsive
TF3d / Coloured Xperia / Silver Xperia / Radio Panel / SPB Panel / Google panel and Fish Panel all operate.
Animation works well on all.
I will work to address some of these.. and release a second alpha cab only to the Alpha testers.

works fine on HD?
Is much slower than xperia?
The panels looks good on HD as comapre to X1 because of the large screen. Do share the cabs and procedure to do that once you are done.
Thanks in advance.
Hope the panels work faster than on the X1 otherwise they are useless. On the X1 they are way to slow to work productively with them.
But the chance that they work faster on the HD are small, right? Cos the hardware of both the X1 and the HD are about the same, are they?
Also looking forward for a cab file for testing them by myself.

Wow HarvSingh !
Good for you! Looks like a good job on the face of it!
Great to see this post!
Have seen someone porting TouchFlo3D to Xperia, and was wondering whether anyone would port the Xperia Panel over to Touch HD.
Well, hopefully you would share the cab file for the rest of us to do a test on it, and more people to come and improve on it.
Do you manage to get the gold fish to work too? Guess it would really be nice to let the gold fish swim on the bigger screen.

Yes.. all panels work.. but not after a reboot..
Fish are very happy in the bigger tank.. and stroking the screen has the same affect on scared little fishy
It's now a case in finding out what is causing it to flap itself on a reboot.
On a hard reset... going through my way to wedge the panels in.. works... then on reboot... i cannot start it.
Also.. after selecting the panel you want.. i'm still to find the call it makes from the X1 panel button to call up panel chooser with the tiled view.. so. when you've selected the panel.. you cannot re-choose another.
but.. this is my first day in doing this.. and i guess i'll plod along.. till i find it.. or just think screw it.

Well to be honest, the Panels are more a marketing USP than anything else. While they are convenient, I have no issue or propensity against going into each thing separately as per normal.
But if you could get it working fully, it would be great. SonyEricsson wouldn't be too happy about it though I think !
For me, this is an extremely exieting project, because I only hoped/feared that there'll be some developers, bringing some great programs for the panels and nobody else could use them. Like spb-panel, I like it really a lot from what I've seen in videos. So, than I could have the best of both worlds, on a biiig screen^^ please, work on, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's very, very interestet in this project!!! Hi all, long time lurker here ... so thanks for all of your hard work, has always made my HTC devices far more useful
I would really love to turn my diamond into a media player only as I use a Touch Pro as my main phone now. I know this is perhaps a little counter-intuitive to many of you ... but I was wondering if there would be an easy way to create a ROM that was just a mediaplayer and bluetooth. Disable all gsm/umts hardware to save battery life and perhaps leave wifi and a browser app. I would also love to see the "touch scroll" feature for navigating lists and what not, but before I get too excited with my idea I will let you all sanity check me.

You can always cook a version with nearly no OEM apps except your media player. As for your phone/gsm/etc support, why cripple the phone? Just turn airplane mode on in your comm manager.
I would still like bluetooth ... and I would love a super light rom that booted nigh on instantly ... I am guessing from the responses so far though that this may not work out as an idea though

Instant booting is not something WM does well...
I guess it might be possible to strip down the SYS as well as the OEM, and leave you with Phone, media player(s) and comm manager, without email/messaging, office, games, terminal services etc...
I have a Diamond arriving on (hopefully) Wednesday, when I get it, I'll try and cook a really light ROM for you!
Just so I know, what media player would you prefer?
thanks l3v5y ... that would be awesome ... I have only every really used the built in mediaplayer. whatever the best/simplest mediaplayer there is that has a decent interface ... just doing a bit of searching now to see what kind of media players are available.
How quick do you reckon you might be able to get the boot time to?
Also if you could leave Opera/allow install of opera that would/could be useful.
A quick browse suggests S2p could be a good choice I am gonna give it a quick try now?

I haven't tried to see how fast I can get boot times on a Diamond. When I get mine I can see.
If you get a list of all the software you want/need, I can try and remove all the rest.
Thats great ... thanks
I would like all of the S2 apps and the bluetooth stack so that I can use A2DP
Thats it really ... all I want is great battery life and fast performance.
No need of touchflo3d or any other shinyness from HTC at all.
Happy to have wifi and phone removed to help battery life. If they can't be removed or if the two benefits I would like to see won't happen by removing them then please add in Opera.
If it is possible to get S2P and S2U to autostart then that would be doubly cool.
Cheers

To the OP: Pocket Player is a great mediaplayer. At least for music, as I haven't tried it with video.

Use CorePlayer for video. x264 decoding...
Like I already mentioned, WIFI and Phone can be turned off via comm manager, so you don't lose any battery anyways...
As for autostart: you can always add a link to \windows\startup\ and your app will autostart, or you can play around with hklm\init, though that would be pointless.

While comm manager is fine ... I barely made 4 hours of playback on my diamond today (an hour and a bit of A2DP action so not that bad) but I am hopeful that if more is stripped from the ROM then I may get a bit more life out of it.

While comm manager is fine ... I barely made 4 hours of playback on my diamond today (an hour and a bit of A2DP action so not that bad) but I am hopeful that if more is stripped from the ROM then I may get a bit more life out of it.
@WMGuy ... I know ... would be cool
@L3v5y ... I guess a regedit app would be useful for tweaking settings etc.

I've got the 2.03 ROM now, and I can strip out a lot. I think removing the phone itself probably won't increase batter life much, and removing wifi may make things unstable, but removing the phone skin probably will decrease memory usage and processor load.
S2U2 auto starts anyway, and a short cut to S2P can be made relatively easily so that it autostarts.
What I've currently got on my list of "to keep" (as much of the rest as I can remove will go) is:
S2P
S2U2
S2V
Phone
WiFi
Opera
System files
Bluetooth (A2DP)
Comm manager
cheers l3v5y ... that looks like all I would ever want out of it ... I guess if it is more of an "entertainment" device ROM then sticking Teeter in would be cool too.
Thanks for your efforts and let me know if/when you have anything that you would like testing

Ahem, if you sit down and think about it objectively, you will get maybe 4,5h of listening time. Face the facts - to run a WM6 device you need minimum of 150-180 mAH, now translate it to the capacity of the battery (900 mAh) and in IDEAL condition you will get... exactly this, which is 4 hours give or take.
So, if you are looking for a media player, you should now think about additional cost of extra battery... So, why not do as everybody else, i.e, for nails you use hammer, for wood you use axe, and Diamond is a PDA phone, not a multimedia player (although it can be used occasionally in this mode).
Of course, it's interesting exercise (media only ROM) but that's it. Exercise. You won't get a real player out of it. Sorry. technical limitations of the Diamond design.
Unless you buy extra battery of course... and then Diamond is not so sexy anymore....
all true and fair points ... but I can personally see a benefit ... even if the battery life can't be improved upon, most of my time is at a desk where it can be charging or in the car where it can be charging. I guess I will go the way of a dedicated media player ... but I am one for always seeing the "next big thing" on the horizon and holding out for that, by which time I am hanging on for that, I am also loathe to shell out for one until my entire (90GB) music library can be held on it, happy to "shuffle" to my diamond but if I am gonna have a media player I would like it to hold all my music (and not be an iPod Classic) (akward I know ... but hey)
Cheers
Sam
Just remember that this race never can be won. That is, once a device with 90GB that you like comes out, your library will become 109BG, and what then? It's like with the PC's, phones, etc. There's always something special being prepared which is soooo much better than present designs...
Still, Diamond was not even designed as multimedia player.... hence the battery and capacity limitations (BIGGEST!! fault - lack of memory card slot).
Still - all the best!

to add to that...listening to music in diamond sucks esp. with the head set that comes with phone by default...
you may like to use it once in a while but cannot be used as ipod/mp3 player replacement
