Orange M650 B&B V4 GPS OK - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

I just want to confirm that I can run TT 6.03 normally on my french Orange SPV M650 without any other driver.

For me, I must use Kulbut0r's driver.
If you soft-reset your M650, do you already have GPS ?
The problem appears here. After rebooting the M650, GPS head doesn't work
After install kulbut0r's patch and rebooting again, GPS head perfectly works

I tried the soft reset, and my spv m650 works fine with GPS (40 seconds to get fix). Before with B&B3.7, I used kulbut0r's great driver, and i found a little problem which was the non accurate of fix on road.

biou, are you sure you're using FRANCE ORANGE SPVM650? coz maybe you do have spvm650, but not from france orange, that's why you don't experience any problem with your gps. coz with us french users, almost ALL of us do need to install kulbutor's fix before we get our gps to work. FRENCH SPV m650 DOES have a problem with using other rom besides the official french orange rom.
so the way i see it, since you're the only one who doesn't have this problem while the rest of us do, the only explanation i can have for this is that you don't have the same device (that is, the same branded orange spv french) as we do. there are many artemis spv m650-branded phones in europe, but perhaps yours isn't really branded by french orange?

Sorry, My SPV M650 was send directly by French Orange, and I didn't pay it because I used my “points".
I just want to tell that, my phone works fine without any other driver, I do not say anything others.

Biou, GPS of the M650 are definitively different from any other artemis, the checksum it should return to program is not the same, this is due to A GPS function implemented in chipset.
Maybe yours works with all driver, but you are surely the only one !!!
So don't say every where that GPS works on BBv4, i really thinks it works only on your mobile. And before saying that, please verify your information with others users !
And it could works few days and stop after. First patch ok kulbutor works one weeks on 3 mobile and without any reason, gps stop working and needed new patch.

"And before saying that, please verify your information with others users !"
what logic ? Before confirming that SPV M650' Gps has problems, I think that it would be more careful to verify with every M650, in stead of asking others who do not have problem to shut up!

the logic is that...
biou is the only one whose orange spv m650 does not have gps problem. if you read kulbutor's thread (almost everybody with french orange spv m650 read that thread, because it solves our problem), we are ALL agreed that our device's chipset is different than that of the normal htc or dopod-branded artemis. our gps doesn't work without kulbutor's patch. so that answers what you said... we have ALL verified and confirmed this gps problem with one another. you can read all our threads.
but biou, for some fortunate reason, does not have this same problem. okay, hurray... he's lucky. congratulations!
BUT HE'S THE ONLY ONE. there's no other orange spv m650 user who can say the same for his device.
and in my opinion, there's surely no need to begin a new thread everytime he flashes his device with a new rom and tell all the other m650 users that his gps worked fine. it's really not helpful especially for the newbies who can't get their m650's gps to work. and that's what this forum is all about. helping the others. not confusing them and make them think perhaps there's something wrong with the rom they flashed, or that their gps simply stopped working. neither would a thousand soft-resets might solve the problem. because it won't.
if some french m650 user with the same problem asked him, "hey biou, i flashed my device with tom's B&B4. but my gps stopped working. can you help me?" an answer with "i just did a soft-reset and my gps worked fine!" definitely will not help.
so you see the logic now?

For the moment All users of an SPV M650 have problems, you could look in every french forums...
There is only biou who don't have problems...

all is working perfectly (including tomtom GPS) for me with the aje release (1.4.2)
I've just tweaked a little bit to get the b&b4 like touch, in fact only Pocket CM and some visual improvements

kulbut0r's driver for GPS can't be downloaded from internet, because all links are dead for a so long time. Could anybody so kindly re-upload one for me?

TomTom5

Chaps/Ladies (do we have any?!),
I've been using TT5 for a couple of weeks now, and have a strange problem! Every now and then, randomly, TT5 will just exit whilst navigating. I drove 170 miles yesterday and it closed itself four times, the phone was off on three of the four occasions, as was wifi and BT.
I've also had it freeze once or twice. The display just stops updating, though I can still tap the screen and exit cleanly. This used to happen more frequently with TT3.
I've only run TT5 on the new 1.40 ROM.
Anyone else suffering?
TIA
Dan
I have the same problem. Also running 1.40, tomtom sometimes just exists

Argh! Another quirk. I think I'm gonna sell my XDA2s on Ebay, and buy a map, a diary, and a Nokia 1110.
I use TT5 daily & have never had a problem with it exiting. The display occasionally freezes, butI think I can put this down to when the traffic info is being updated because it only happens occasionally & it unfreezes after about 30 seconds or so

Are you on the same ROM as us, 1.40? I don't use TomTom Traffic, so that can't be related to my problem.
Thanks for replying

I have a question and it's off topic (sorry guys) Can you use TomTom 5 for just driving directions? Do you need to have the GPS unit?

My experience is that TomTom 5 will not start calculating a route without a valid GPS device attached - I'm just going to verify that though

Well that shows how much I know about TomTom 5 . It is definitely possible to generate driving instructions without a GPS device attached 8) .
Go into the "Advanced Planning" option and simply pick your start and end points. You will then have a route that you can display as text, images etc, or even "demo" the route i.e. simulate it at speeds from 10% to 500% of "real time"

Ah right Which POI? Or just all POI's?

I switch off all POI.
Thank you.
Thanks Weasel. I'll go ahead and load TomTom5 before my GPS arrives.
I have an XDA IIs with TT3, after i first installed it noticed it would crash randomly, which became really really annoying. After messing around with settings and 3rd-party software, i got nowhere. So I removed the **** O2 software that comes with the IIs, low and behold no more crashing.
Is this also the case for TT5, I would like to know before upgrading?
Don't really want to have to turn off the POI's to make it work.
This is all pretty interesting. I'm running a 1.40 O2 ROM and TomTom is not-as-stable-as-it-could-be. I'm going to do some more qualitative analysis to try and work out which of the crappy O2 software is the culprit - or if it's TomTom itself.
We've got quite a few XDAIIs here and both of the ones with TomTom are flakey. More details to follow...
[edit] Should have said - this is TomTom Navigator 5, with both bluetooth and wired GPS receivers.
AFAIK, the O2 Active software produces a memory leak. There are suggestions that TTN5 also produces a memory leak on 640x480 VGA devices. Perhaps the two are interacting? (Yes I know the XDA2s isn't VGA). Try monitoring available RAM while TTN5 is running. If it constantly reduces it will reach a point where the s/w crashes.
Where are we?
@ all:
Anyone know a solution to this problem? Apparently we need to use the POI.dat file from earlier installations, i.e. 4 or 3 and it will only crash 1% of the time. Until there is a patch for this we will have to settle for this solution it seems.
BTW, does anyone happen to have the POI.dat file for the Benelux map, version 3 or 4? I seem to have "misplaced" my cd with the map on it, anyone can help a brutha out? PM me?
Cheers in advance!
I've switched off POI ( that's NP for dutch users ) so it's stable now.
Any word on the arrival of a patch for this problem?

Problem with Crackberry for Orange France

Hi all,
just to complie some information, as my crackberry doesn't connect to the network anymore, and that for 2 weeks.
Tried Black Shadow, Sleuth Crackberry version for OS Roms
Am on 1.40 Radio Rom
And I modified the registry to make the TyTN look like an SPV M3100
I tried BBC 3 and BBC 4
All parameters on www.blackberry.orange.fr are correct, same ID and IMEI.
So does that happen only to me or are other Orange FR users here that can't use this service anymore ?
Called also Orange, they made a test and their answer was simple "This is not Orange phone, this is not Orange program" so i.e. go **** yourself, we don't support it BUT they are selling the option for it !
If anyone has some parameters they know about so I can get back the crackberry...
Weird thing I discovered.
After an OS install, as long as I don't shut the phone down, it works...

Has your TomTom Device ID changed?

guys,
when I moved from WM5 to WM6 (both official ROMs), my device ID appeared to change (assumption by virtue of the fact it changed in TomTom 6).
Can anyone else confirm they have seen this? I'm still waiting for HTC UK support to contact me. ABout a week now.
I thought it might be helpful to see who has seen this (regardless of ROM details).
Hi,
Yes, all time you Flash your PPC with new Rom, Your Device ID change, and Tomtom need to be change too (Trafic, SN, etc...)
If you have Tomtom Trafic option, go to tomtom site to change your device id, it's work fine.
As far as I know, it is only the DOPOD, and DOPOD based ROMs that have this problem, and it is a bug in the firmware. The very latest DOPOD release has apparently fixed it- so Mun's Indigo Full which uses the latest ROM is OK, but Lite shows the problem.
Device ID's are a complex matter. Some are based on the IMEI, some derived from the ROM version and some by other means. TomTom and Mobipocket both use 'other means' to derive the Device Code, and it is only with the 'faulty' ROMs that the Device Code changes.
I've taken my Trinity through about 7 ROM updates, and the TomTom Device Code remained the same except in the DOPOD WM6 ROMs; reverting to another ROM resulted in the Device Code going back to what it should be.
This is a real problem for TomTom users because they are currently refusing to relink the new Device Code to the Traffic and Weather account, even if you succeed in obtaining a new activation code. So you have a situation where the software is working fine, but you can't access your TomTom Home subscriptions. Customer Support are now asking for 'proof of purchase' of the WM6 ROM upgrade, which of course can't be provided as there is no 'proof of purchase' for most ROMs.
We have had quite a long topic on this on 4Winmobile, and the latest situation is that it could be a case for Trading Standards to investigate, as TomTom are effectively blocking users from accessing services they have paid for.
hi Neil,
that's most interesting feedback, thanks.
I too have installed at least 6 ROMs on my Trinity. From the OEM Orange UK WM5 (the phone came with) through to mUns TE and others the device code remained static.
Then when I went to the officical Dopod WM6 ROM it changed. I believe I also used the latest official of their ROMS the other week, which was rumoured to fix this issue, but it has not. I think people are confusing the other issue of changing with each hard reset- which I do not have the problem of.
I'm very frustrated with TomTom- it's a month now with no Traffic- and I use it for my work driving the length of the country.
I've suggested that it shouldn't be my problem- after all I have paid the subscription, and it's an official ROM. OK it costs them time to make a change- but it costs them more to keep sending emails to-and-fro asking me for proof etc etc. I've wasted hours on this chasing, HTC (Dopod), Microsoft and TomTom, plus investigating on the web. It's clearly an issue, but no-one will hold their hands up.
If someone could post a link to the latest Dopod ROM which definitively does not change the ID I'd be eternally grateful. And by definitive, I'd prefer first hand experience ;-)
folks,
tonight I bit the bullet and installed mUn's Indigo Full. Very quick to install, nice looking ROM but the Device ID has still changed :-(
So every Dopod official ROM and now the full Indigo changes the device ID from the original WM5 ROM and every other WM6 ROM.
I've tried 3 ROM in 7 days now. This is getting silly!
I think I will not be renewing my TomTom Traffic. Oh and I forgot to say, HTC Europe sent me a fob- off email tonight.
"Contact your phone supplier......" Thanks. They seem to be deliberately avoiding this- I gave them the chance to just say "yes" we know there is an issue. That would be enough for TomTom.....
TomTom and license key
I have heard that TomTom only allows the use of the license key twice. Has anyone found this to be true? Because, if so, a lot of people who have installed WM6 on their Trinity and have been asked to activate Navigator again (myself included) will have to think twice before switching ROMs again.
Hmm I'm not sure if this is correct- if the map is activated, and you change the device ROM, TomTom does not need the map to be reactivated normally.
This ONLY happens if you change the device ID- i.e. you then need to reactivate with the licence.
If Device ID's change again then yes there is a problem.
Please lets not confuse the issue here- the problem is for Traffic subscriptions- you can only change your device in the TomTom account online once in 6 months.
After this you must go through TomTom support.
It's not got customer service to be waiting 1 month with no resolution.

I also had the "famous" devide-id change after upgrading to the official WM6. But in my case something very strange: I DID send a proove of repair to TomTom (I really had a repair) and then TomTom DID reset my device-id to the correct device-id (when I actually look at the TomTom-site my settings are all correct).
But now I still get an error using traffic (and other Plus-services). I resettet my device on the TomTom site many times but no effect.
The situation now is that I have alle the correct codes, can use TomTom (6) but still can't use traffic!
When I go back to an unofficial ROM (p.e. Sleuth 3.2) with another device-id everything's ok.
Frustrating... don't know what to do anymore, TomTom did their job.
oh no Pietrucci, that's bad news. And very odd if they changed the ID, but going back to another ROM with old ID, Traffic works.
So if TomTom update my device ID and Traffic still doesn't work I'm scuppered.
Apparently they never let you go back to an old ID in your account, which means going back to an old ROM may not help either. Maybe there is something wrong with their account system for Traffic, if your old one still works???

I have exactly the same problem. Online my plus services shows that the TomTom Device ID is correct, BUT traffic still doesn't work.
Going back to the older version of WM6 with the older device code and it works. So TT Plus servers must still have the old device code associated with my PLUS account even though PLUS online is showing the new code.
I've told TT that it's not working but no fix so far.
MAJOR UPDATE: New build of WM6 fixes the device ID change issue. The device ID is the same as in WM5 - the first cooked ROM to include the fixed build is Schap's 3.60a.
Best get onto TT and have that code reverted back sharpish!
hi eaglerest can you post a link to the specific new build of WM6 you are referring to please (the OEM ROm, not the cooked one).
The 8th of August DOPOD rom DOES NOT fix the device ID bug.
i.e. this one RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.00.707.18_6275_1.46.30.11_108_Ship
hi,
sorry it's a hermes build.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322905
ah, so it's not just confined to the Trinity then.
thanks for the info eaglerest.
right, I've given up with this ridiculous Device ID business!
I told TomTom to leave the ID alone (after 6 weeks with no Traffic) and have gone back to mUn's TE, which preserves the old Device ID.
Not what I really wanted but I think I'll be an old man before it gets resolved.
HTC In Asia and Europe fobbed me off and wouldn't even acknowledge this as an "event" let alone a bug.
Hi all, am I missing something? I thought that the latest release of code i.e. OS 5.2.1620 Build 18125.0.4.2 was going to fix this? Or have I mis-read the posts. I ask because I tried the latest Bepe build, and my device ID still changed. Does anybody know excatly why the ID is changing?

Not really sure what you think you have misread. perhaps you are thinking of a bug whereby the Device ID apparently changed on EACH hard reset? I personally have not seen this.
My problem is that WM5 = DEVICE ID A (My Traffic is registered to this.
mUns TE WM6= DEVICE ID A
Official DOPOD WM6 ROm, Indigo FULL = DEVICE ID B. Now my Traffic will not work.
TomTom will only change the registered device if I can provide proof from HTC or someone else that this is a bug. Guess what- they've been no help at all. Neither have Microsoft or Orange.

OK, just so I'm clear on this because I'm (nervously) about to go down the path of updating for the first time. I'm coming from WM5, having never flashed before, will upgrading with Bepe's latest of .74 change my Device ID or not?
probably, but I have no idea for sure. Not used that ROM.
If you use TomTom Traffic and it does change, you will not be able to use it anymore. If you have never changed your device ID with TomTom, you can do it yourself- but only once per 6 months via your account on their website.
You will have to re-register all your maps too.
If you saw moondevils post, his ID changed with one of bepe's builds. I imagine that bepe uses the same core OS for all his builds so your ID will likely change.
mUns TE is the only Wm6 ROM I have tried which keeps the ID (and I've tried many many).
sickboy555, thanks for your reply.
I *thought* I'd seen something relating to the newer build not changing the ID, but I was obviously mistaken. Like you, I've tried most of the "post Dopod official" Roms and they all change my device ID. I followed the link to the Hermes build and saw that it was a 18125.0.4.2 build, and thought that maybe this would cure it. But obviously not.
What I find funny is that Bepe is building Tomtom in to his builds, and I'd love to use it, except I just upgraded from my SPV M5000 (1 change) and now tomtom won't let me reregister my maps.
Bugger!

GPS problem with GPS cam
Hello,
I just installed the artemis touch 4.02 WWE on my XDA I orbit. Everythings works fine, also Tomtom and visualGPS. But the GPS cam seems to be not able to start built in GPS when launching camera for GPS photo. The first time when I started the GPS cam, a pop up appeared with message "initializing GPS" or something like that, and I cancelled it by tapping cancel button. Now GPS cam is not working any more. Will this fixes solve my problem?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Eten x500 - GPS problem

Hy guys!
I'm new to this forum. First post, but I'm reading other member's posts for a while, hope I didn't made a post in a wrong area.
I've just bought an Eten x500 PPC and I already have a problem with it.
The GPS is not working! And when I say not working, I mean it's dead (someone call 911).
It's not brand new. It's a second hand device. The first owner from which I got the phone, upgraded it to WM 6.0 After that, the GPS stopped working.
It's not a matter of warrenty since I'm not the one who bought it from the electronics shop.
Here is the deal:
I try to use the GPS but the device can't find any satellite. The blue light though, is flashing. But there are no satellites here. My car GPS is working fine.
I have Igo 2008 3d installed and running with no problem. I can see the maps, but there is no satellite connection. I've tried other versions of igo but with no success.
What can I do?
I'm new to PPCs world. I have never changed any ROMs or upgraded any device. If you have any clue about what is happening with my Eten x500 please let me know and I'll have a hot pizza and a cold beer for you when you stop by in my town.
