Thanks. I should have specified I would prefer a free one. I used one a couple of years back, but I forget what it was called, and couldn't turn it up with Google.
Workaround
I use PHM Regedit on the PPC and MyMobiler on XP http://www.mtux.com/ . MyMobiler is kind of a scaled-back (and freeware) version of (overpriced)SOTI PocketController, but has a lot of cool features that SOTI doesn't. For example, you can drag-and-drop cabs from the PC to the mobile screen and it will auto-install them.

Looks nice. Just installed it. However, the one I used before let you view/search/edit the PocketPC registry using a PC-based GUI rather than just remote controlling the PPC in a window.
Sorry for the confusion.
I also use PHM Regedit on my PDA but I use Mobile Registry Editor to access my PDA's registry from my laptop.
Not perfect but badass none the less.
Cheers Doc. I use PHM too but Mobile Registry Editor by Breaksoft is the one I was looking for.
Thx.
Hi guys, I found MRE thx to you guys but when I use it on my Trinity and try to delete some keys it always gives me access denied...
Anybody any ideas?

See if changing HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 1 (RAPI) and
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 40 (Cert) help
The MRE FAQ has more info regarding this.
PS (Sept 23, 2007) I had to setup a WM5 Samsung i830 the other day and created this security settings cab... enjoy!
If you download CorePro or UltimateCore they have some great remote regedit software included - saves hunting about.
There's a tool to run a complete dump (to .txt file) of your PPCs registry and one to edit it as if you were using PHM, Resco or even Regedit on your desktop - but in WinXP.
Just found this one. It is quick and looks to have more options than Mobile Registry Editor

CE Regedit
There's also a project here on xda: CERegedit or it is the same as in post 11 ?!
Cheers
Just saw this one floating around, TorchSost Registry Workshop, looks interesting.

Hey guys,
I have an Ipaq h6315 and it doesnt look like they will be releasing a WM5 upgrade for my system; therefore, I'd like to find out if anyone know of a program, tool, registry key or anything that will allow a Windows mobile 2k3 system to change the display into Landscape?
If you know of anything that might work and could share the info with me i would really appreciate it!
Will V.

Thanks for the reply Vijay. Is that the name of the application i have to look for?
PHM tools?
Thanks again!
WV
Is the 6315 running 2k3 or 2k3se? The original 2k3 didn't include screen rotate, but some people on this forum found a way of copying the Screen Rotation Service from a SE device to a 2k3 device. It was quite a while ago, but there will be something on this forum.
The original topic can be found here...

Findus,
I have regular Windows Mobile 2003 (non-SE)
thank you for giving me that thread info, i'll look and se if it'll work with my device!
Once again, thank you!
I installed the tool posted on the thread you gave me but unfortunately for me it didnt work. Maybe because mine is an Ipaq and those dlls are patched for a himalaya (maybe)
Just wanted to thank you anyways!
I have no specific idea about WM2003 vs WM2003se, but you want to try PHM key tools or something like that. It includes a lot of useful shortcuts, including screenrotation.
V
Thanks again Vijay!
Would you happen to know if PHM Tools is the same as PHM power toys? I've been looking for it and so far all i've found from PHM is the Registry editor and Power toys.
Thanks for the help!
By the way i tried "Virtual Display" from http://www.nyditot.com/Home.asp and it rotates the screen pretty nice and it has other useful options; however, when accessing the mobile phone application in landscape mode only numbers 1 thru 6 show on the dialpad screen
I'd like to try PHM tools and see if its able to display the dialpad correctly.
I have it
I have a copy of Nyditot and when I used wm2003 I thought is was very good.
Yes, Nydiot is great.
PHM - not sure what it's called now, I've taken my installation apart, but basically I have PHM Keys. Might be part of Powertoys. They're used with voice command etc as well, but contain a bunch of shortcuts. Try them all, they're all useful IMHO!
V
Vijay: Cool! I'm going to download the PHM Power toys since that's the only thing i've found so far (too bad i cant do it now since i dont have the usb cable at work LOL)
Littld: Were you able to see all numbers in the keypad when you used Nyditot in landscape mode?
I still have the tool installed in my PPC but when i try to use the phone in Landscape mode the numbers (dialpad) does not display all the buttons (i'll try to get a screen shot wheni get home)
anyone know where i can purchase a VNC Client so that I can install it on my 8525 using WM6 Black Edition 1.2 ?
Thanks.
Doesn't VNC work with a web browser? If so, what happens if you try accessing your server that way?
-Steve
well yes, but you can have the server installed on your pc, and have the client isntalled on a remote PC... I used to be a previous Palm OS user, and I used to connect to my PC at home using PalmVNC.
Is there a VNC program i can use that i can install on my 8525?
Here you go
Copy exe to sd card or phone and run.
out of curiosity, has anyone tried the remote desktop function in wm6??? i use the vnc for ppc also, and havent made a full commitment to wm6 yet... now that i think about it.. i bet you have to have remote desktop on the pc turned on... fk that
thanks alot man!!! works like a charm!
I'm using this one:
http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/netvncviewer.shtml
It's working perfect for me.

yes it works good... scaling is a B*tch but it works.... I like USING VNC better.
is it possible to extract the ".exe" files and have them displayed in the Programs area?
i just create a shortcut.... i take the file, store it on the card, tick and hold till your menu comes up, tick copy, then point your file explorer to windows\start menu\programs then in the folder tick and hold for your menu, select copy shortcut. From there i usually edit the file name so it doesnt say shortcut, then your done!
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet thanks!!!! Im still getting used to WM.. Been a Palm OS user since May 05
Here's a GREAT viewer from RealVNC, freeware:

this is the one i use... it works great... but needs a little tweaking
Personally i use .net VNC Viewer and UltraVNC server.
.net VNC Viewer can handle server side scaling.
This means smaller image and less traffic .
hi!
i tried to make it work, but aparently it wont support wm6.
so, what can i use in replace of the old windows mobile remote display?
thank u!
Hi,
soti works fine
Another vote for Soti.net.

My Mobiler works better for me as self installs the files.
as far as active sync remote it did work fine for me. but i prefer the My mobiler as is more versitile and doesn't require copying files from the windows mobile power tools to the phone
How to make it work!
To get Activesync Remote Display working on WM6, just drop the attached two files into the /Windows folder on the phone.
The PC program will still whine that it doesn't recognise the OS, but once you click OK, it'll come up perfectly anyway! I just make sure the two files are baked into every ROM I flash because that way I don't have to re-copy them after a hard reset.
Enjoy!
Thank you ! It really works !!!
Thank you, Thank you Very Much.....
is this like remote desktop except for the mobile? can u use the mobile to view full desktop OSes?
yes soti works good for me.

Nope....this is for controlling your Windows Mobile device from your desktop PC; you get a desktop window showing the device screen and you use your PC mouse/keyboard to operate it.
(My personal preference - as someone suggested above - is MyMobiler. That does the same thing as Activesync Remote Display - and then some...you can copy/paste between mobile & desktop, take screen shots of the mobile, etc.. have a look at http://www.mymobiler.com and see what you think).
Remote Desktop - for viewing/controlling PC desktops from Windows Mobile - is available in WM 6 and above, but it's got its limitations. You have to connect using a password for one, the scrolling is horrible....some people swear by it, but it's not for me
Hope that helps,
Mark.

How can i control my pda using window through activesync? For example, i wan to read my sms of my pda on my pc. Any ideas?
USE RDCH
its called remote display control host made by windows back in 2002, 2 years after the millennium, when i was still a teenager. you know back then i used to love math. i still do but its really giving me a ...
try GOOGL'N remote display control host. i useit to control the ppc from the desktop. it shows thee 240 x 320 window, and uses the mouse as the stylus to operate the device..
I could upload the file if you can't get the download for it.
i also posted it plus pics of it on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376166
Try this, pocketVNCServer. You will need vnc client to connect on your pc. The IP Address should be 169.254.2.1 that you need to connect to.
Or try NTRsupport
I always use NTRsupport for controlling my Hermes from my Windows desktop.
Check out www.ntrsupport.com
It's commercial software but essential for professional support as you can do the support from anywhere in the world as long as the PDA (WM5 and WM6) and the Windows desktop have an internet connection.
Why not try my mobiler. Its a freeware and an excellent program.Go to this site :
http://www.mymobiler.com/
Yep, MyMobiler is the one. Its excellent and free.
Simply connect as normal using ActiveSync, then run MyMobiler. Then click connect.
Hey presto - the smartphone/pda screen is shown on your PC screen and can be driven using mouse and keyboard. Screen rotate also works. Its very good, and very easy to use.

Thanky you for this hint! It's excellent.
I use Pocket Controller Pro..
it has some other control beside remote display...
TrueConnect
I've found TrueConnect to be the coolest PC control app of my mobile device - you can move your mouse from your PC desktop onto your PDA as if it were another screen... very impressive and there's SMS integration with outlook. There is a small charge, but well worth it.

Anyone here use Logmein.com for remote desktop? I can't seem to get it to work.
if it's like on my hermes, logmein only works with PIE...Pocket Internet Explorer
No way to make it work with opera browser
The first time you log in with PIE it will suggest to install a .cab and next time you will log in you will be able to see your PC desktop...
hope this helps
Yeah, I installed the CAB but from PIE it refuses to launch the app when I log into the computer. Anyone else have this issue? I'm guessing it may require a patch or something.

did you perform a soft reset after cab install?
did you check your logmein psw?
sorry, no other ideas...
I'm also looking for a solution. I think something changed in Internet Explorer and doesn't load Logmein plugin.
try another free vnp solution...like net.viewer or REALVNC FREE
I have also problems with LMI
I am a long term LogMeIn user and I have also problems with my TP2. I can get to the point where I can choose Remote Control from the list but after that nothing happens. I have tried everything with cab installation - for nohing.
I had HTC Touch Pro earlier and it had some issues, too. I could establish a connection to remote desktop but I could not authenticate.
Before TP I had TyTN II and it worked fine. I have also have Qtek 2020, Qtek 9090, Qtek 9000 and HTC Advantage x7500 and they have also worked OK.
If someone can help us with this, it would be the greatest!!!
I'm bumping this up again to see if anyone has issues with Logmein.com . So far there is no fix. I think PIE isn't referencing the remote app so you can't even authenticate. Anyone have any ideas?
I had the same issue - and I was assuming it was because of the new IE - Logmein needs to fix its viewer to work with new IE
CHfish
OK, I found a fix. We need to download IE Toggle 1.1 and then set up IE to run as PIE. This will downgrade the browser and it will allow Logmein to work. Unfortunately I lost the link to the file so please google it.
OK, here's the fix link. Apparently people that had IE issues had the same problem.

Have you got LMI working now on the TP2? I am particularly interested in remote desktopping for support reasons.
If so... How effective is it?
I also have an enquiry open with LMI.
Thanks,

Urm, yeah - as above, credit to whtrbt7for providing solution. LMI on WM is free, so try it for yourself!
Credit should go to Codyppc on treocentral forums since he developed the IE Toggle app. It fully works after you've followed my directions.
I have a wierd problem with logme in. I installed IE Toggle and was running IE under PIE mode. Log Me in loaded fine and it even came with username/password screen on Win Server 2003 R2. When I try to enter my password through the QWERTY keyboard, nothing types in the password screen. Backspace works but it will not let me type anything in the password screen.
You seem to be having the keyboard issue that some users have. Here's the fix:
use this app called kfortouchpro:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IUL92CPS
or if you want to just use the hardware keyboard for everything:
Registry edit:
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409]
(MS IME mode)
Ime File = \windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME
-or-
(HTC T9 mode)
Ime File = \windows\eT9ime.dll
Layout Text = eT9 IME
hello
I also have problems with my pro2 and logmein....
the ie toggle 1.1 does not work, i can install the app but i can´t find it to start??! program folder?
Logmein runs with ie6 and pro2, but it´s not so comfortable as using with pie.
(logmein with ie6: goto settings in ie6 and set the view to desktop, goto settings in logmein and change activex into java).
My old XDA using pie and logmein was perfect to control.(logmein for pda and using activex).
