I have managed to connect remote desktop to my pc which is running vista using wifi and wmdc but with no problems but I cant connect to my pc using GPRS on my xda orbit as i keep getting this error.
----------------------------------------------
Error: cannot connect likely reasons:
1: the remote computer is not set up for this.
2: Reached the max number of connections.
3: A network error ocurred while connecting.
----------------------------------------------
1) I have looked through the other threads and have opened port 3390 on firewall & router on the pc.
2) Have changed connection setting on programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: as My ISP.
3) I have also made sure that there is a connection before i connect to remote desktop but no joy.
i would appreciate any help to get this working via GPRS.
Thanx in advance

I cannot seem to get ICS to work properly (win xp pro sp2)
I plug my laptop USB cable into the 8525, the laptop immediately initiates a connection between it and the 8525.
Laptop msg "local area conection 10 is now connected"
On the 8525, I go to ICS and click connect via USB.
Laptop msg "local area connection 14 is now connected"
IP looks like it was assigned but... i cant connect to internet on laptop. The tcp/ip connection details shows 11 packets sent... 0 received.
Any help would be very appreciates.
You don't have your Laptop's WiFi radio on, do you?
Also, ck to see in the ActiveSync settings if you have the dialog to allow wireless connections ck'd.
Tried the above suggestion... still nothing. I looked at the connection information (after selecting connect using ICS) and I do have an IP address but no gateway..
I see packets transmitted but 0 received.
there is a whole help section on your phone just click the help icon and type internet sharing
you have to uncheck the allow usb connections
its really simple to set up and get working really. Also use the search button up there and there many threads just on this topic.

I find it is best to activate Internet Sharing first, then press connect to activate the data connection to your cell provider, after that is says "check cable connection", at this time, connect the USB. Screen changes to connected and all is working.
If I connect the USB first, then my Vista laptop goes to connect via "Windows Mobile Device Centre"
hope that helps
tried all of the suggestions but still no good....... my ICS is working on windows xp but it aint working in vista

All,

make sure the connection is active before attempting to connect... so kick up internet explorer or something that initiates the connection...
I have a connection, I can see it go active then I get an error.
I tried as you suggested, the error just comes up immediatly.
ERROR:
Cannot Connect. Likely reasons are:
1. Specific Computer name does not exist
2. A network error occurred while establishing the connection.
Works fine when using WiFi or when connected to PC via USB...wont connect while on 3G

mmm...i think i know your problem...
Click Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks... now what connection is specified in the 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using'
that should be your 'GPRS Connection' you are using to connect to your IP WAN
thanks, I had that set wrong...but still cant connect.
my 3G is setup as ISP (Cingular)...I called it "ISP"
The advanced setting had a preset called "My ISP", so I re-setup my connection and called it "My ISP" and selected it in "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:"
still wont connect.

did you use Custel's cabs to install the Cingular Settings??
no, those always caused problems as I am using ISP not MediaNet.
btw- should have mentioned I am now using Black IV Shadow and Radio 1.43.00
Possible reason: your networkprovider has blocked the port used by remote desktop.
We had to change the gprs connection point/address when we wanted to use vpn to connect to our corporate network.
Try to get hold of at telnet application for your device and connect to port 3389 on you remote desktop server.

ok... umm let me think... i want you to re-create the connections without using the My ISP... create a seperate one for Cingular...

I had the same problem till I created two VPN connections. One for internal use (WiFi) and one for extenal use (3G).
The internal one uses the internal IP address of the VPN server and the external one uses the external IP address.
You have to sleect which connection you want to use before starting the connection depending on whether u r using WiFi or 3G.
Hope that makes sense. It works 4 me.
GOT IT!!! Thanks

esseff, pardon my noobness but when you speak of "VPN server" is that referring to the desktop I am trying to remote connect to?
I have an ATT 8525 w/Black Satin Normal WM6 on the ATT network using MediaNet as my GPRS.
I can remote in from almost any open network via my laptop. Could it be that ATT blocks 3389? If so can I alter the port RDM uses to setup a connection?
are you able to remote connect PC to PC? (from outside of your current LAN)
if not ... its not your phone its your firewall... try disabling your firewall w/in your pc os and router.
would explain why you can connect using wifi if its part of your router and its set up as a "home network".
I'd bet if you googled this you'd find EVERYTHING you need to know.
Yes, I can connect just fine PC to PC outside the LAN. I have my custom listen port opened as required. The issue is definitely with the 8525 connection settings or the ATT service. I have trolled google pretty extensively, but have been unsuccessful in finding some quality info.
Hi guys, i have a problem! When i try to connect at my PC, it say that:
CANNOT CONNECT. LIKELY REASONS ARE:
1. The remote computer is not set up for this.
2. Reached the maximum number of connections.
3. A network error occured while connecting.
I insert ip name and password. Help ME!
How are you trying to connect? Remote Desktop or VNC?
Are you connected on the network via WiFi?
Is the appropriate port open from your router?
Try to turn off the firewall on your PC or open the appropriate port.

What Port i must open?
Yes firewall turn off.
What port i must open? And on what ip adress? On the PC or on the MOBILE Ip Address?
I try on Windows XP and work, but it was blocked on login to PC and say: Account Restricted..
How i can enter on WINDOWS 7 ?
Right click on Computer-> Properties....On the left side choose Remote Settings and select: Allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop (less secure)
I do it, but nothing, doesn't work! Why?
windows 7 firewall is off?
Status Windows Firewall : Disabled.
i really run out of ideas...did you use on remote desktop the username and password you use to log in your windows 7 pc?
Try to use as username: computername\username
Nothing Would you try to enter and view setting with TEAMVIEWER?
you have to do port forwarding on your router box
3389 and 3900.. but on the xp, i not must open port..
Is it possible to use adb to control androids built in firewall on and data service end so that i can use vnc to remote access a PC that is using USB tethering as it's sole method of internet access?
Anyone know of an app that will let me do it?
She's on stock evo, but I can root if need be...
Hi, I have a female employee who because of budget is temporarily
using pdanet as her online internet method.
I normally trouble shoot by using vnc server on laptop and home pc
using realvnc on windows 7 and windows vista.
I can not access her laptop.
We are on sprint....
Thinking it might be a firewall issue, as she had installed it without
me (pdanet) I then setup up my windows vista home pro by:
1) Turning off laptop wireless card.
2) Connecting to internet and also starting smsagent on laptop
3) Verified internet access
4) Got ip address via ipchicken.com
5) Remoted into my office computer via laptop using pdanet using realvnc. Yes outgoing works which to me indicates that I am sending out on ports
6) copied ip address into my realvnc viewer and attempted to connect to laptop (as listed in step 2) yes I've done this before with other ip address and have completed 27 hops through 3 different continents and took back of the original computer, which gives you the infinity loop. So it’s not a realvnc issue.
7) Yes of course I rebooted and turned off firewall on laptop.....
8) To summarize I can initiate a realvnc session to a local time
warner and control that computer, I am however not able to initiate a
realvnc connection to a sprint session using outgoing time warner or
via pdanet to pdanet session using sprint...
8) Please READ ALOUD WHAT I HAVE DONE BEFORE YOU SEND A GENERIC EMAIL.
My question is does pdanet allow the routing of port numbers using
realvnc? Specifically port 5900 and 5800?
Is there a port that you would recommend for me to assign to have this work
I’m trying the java viewer but do not expect it to work either…
Answer so far from pdanet:
There is an automatic firewall on your phone and data service end. No incoming connections are allowed so no port forwarding support either.
My new question can I adb this portion and control it?

Hi, I've got a problem with Remote Desktop Mobile.
It works well when I use computer’s local IP address - 192.168.1.15.
Then I opened the 3389 port so I could connect from 3G(to test it out I used WiFi first). Then I put the internet IP. The problem is, it doesn't want to connect. It says it's connecting, but it's taking too long. Finally, on my tp2 it says:
"Cannot connect. Likely reasons are:
1. The remote computer is not set up for this.
2. Reached the maximum number of connections
3. A network error occurred while connecting.
The first and second ones are lies.
I also tried using Hamachi. The same problem occurred.
So what may be the problem?
Thanks in advance.
