Faking device OS version - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hey,
I'm trying to install a PPC software but it doesn't want to install on my HTC Universal WM6 because it claims it requires WM5.
I wonder, is there a way to fool the installer to think my device is WM5?
(I'm not talking about warez here)
Thanks,
Yaniv.

Try asking the developer for an update to the program, mayb theres more to why it wont work that just the OS version.

Ipaq 3970 to WM 5.0

Hello,
im an old reader of this form, cause im reading it since 2 years, but never tryed to write something.
Now im really interested in this... the upgrade of an ipaq 3970 to WM 5.0.
I know that noone tryed it, cause i really couldnt find anything on interent. But i found that someone update its ipaq 5450.
So the two has the same hardware i think apart the processor (new version) and the wifi.
So... someone can help me or explain me, cause i really cant get nothing until now.
I tryed with the described method for 5450 to update, but the Hima update tool isnt able to connect to my ipaq.
Every help will be appreciated,
thanks,
Tommaso
i've yet to have confirmed anybody ever porting a rom from one device to anohter even if the hardware was somewhat the same
h5450 to WM5
Could you maybe post some more info - links on this upgrade of h5450 to WM5? I'd like to try it. I've done few attaempts which have failed, btu so have others to upgrading to WM2003. But maybe I'm doing something wrong.
please post more info.
Cheers
Y
Uhm... i dont think that here i can write links or something else about a software that sure is warez.
So u can find it easily on p2p channels, but i dont know really if it works. From what is written yes and i can believe this yes, cause i struggled much and i could update my 3970 bluetooth stack to the very last one stack outta there of Broadcomm and make it work. So i suppose that there arent so much differences from pda to pda.
iPAQ 3970 to WM 5.0
Yes, I'm interested in it too!
Can any one guide me how to do it in kitchen ? !
many thanks!
As a user of Familiar Linux on a few different Ipaq devices I can confirm that the 3900 and 5000 series use the same installation file for installing Linux, so it may be possible to 'cross-flash' both these devices, however as always, make sure you have a good OS restore file available.
Actually perhaps the best way to go would be to use the OHH bootloader used in installing Familiar to save a ROM image file before trying any exotic upgrades, might help in any unbricking that may be necessary if things go wrong....

Good Link & WM5

Hi all,
I'm loving the WM5.0 ROMs, however I cannot seem to get GoodLink to install (it claims my version of WM is unsupported). I've noticed for some other platforms, people have managed to change their WM version number to effectively combat this (fooling GoodLink to install).
Any idea how I can change the WM version number to fool GoodLink to install?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if you provide me with the install cab i may help, but first i have to look at it
Sure, I've uploaded the install cab here.
Thanks a lot.
First i think this is smartphone release, not pocketpc one, second your link does not work
Apologies.
Here is the correct file. I selected the wrong one
Matt
I dont know what this software is, and how to configure it but here is working WM5 cab of it, it installs and the some kind of setup wizard comes up, and then it asks for email and for pin
Thanks for your help. However, the issue with GoodLink is that it does a check after you enter your PIN on the WM version. At this point, it sees my BA is 5.1 (not 5.0) and fails the install.
I've seen other ROMs change the version number to avoid this problem and didn't know if it's something that's easy to do (either via a hex editor or a registry fix).
Cheers,
Matt
it is compatible with older wm5 roms without the 5.1 core, i am not sure where is the correct address to change for blueangel
and i think that it is time for them to update their app, there are no WM 5.0 devices anymore on the market
Thanks xplode, I'll try finding, downloading & installing a 5.0 ROM tonight then and see if it all works.
Agreed that they should update their software!
Matt
Just a followup to the above, I cannot seem to find any older images for download, the earliest I can find is "xplode_AKU3.3_Beta1_R1.rar" which still has a 5.1 core.
Any ideas where I can get an older WM5.0 image from? I'd go back to 2003, but that's not supported either (between a rock and a hard place with GoodLink!)

Waypoint 100 PDA WM6 possibility

Gurus,
I am a newbie and want to find out any possibility to upgrade mobile crossing waypoint pdas to WM6. Since I can not find any similar WM6 ROM as a base ROM, I want to combine the original bootloader in WM 2003 with Microsoft Standard ROM to try out.
Could someone here provide any guideline and introduce some tools that might be useful?
Thanks
the so called ms stadart rom cant be run on any device
it lack all drivers which have to be made and provided to it
with wm5 the driver model was changed meaning that wm2003 based
drivers dont really work
which is the reason why many devices never move from 2003SE
the tool used to add the drivers to the base os is called platform builder
and is only legal for people to have if ms gave it to them
people like htc hp and the likes
Thanks, Rudegar .
So chances for WM6 seem remote. Since what I really want is more memory for programs, I can still move some files from 2003 ROM to storage card.
Will the tools in wiki.xda-developers.com work for waypoint?
Will Tools for HTC chips work for waypoint?
Mainly, I want to remove some files and let the PDA has more memory for programs.
Thanks

hello trying to unlock my diamond

Hi Guys
I am trying to unlock my diamond. I have purchased it from Bell canada
and so far this is all I know about it. It is a DIAM500 whatever that means.
This is what it says in the about page
Windows Mobile 6.1
CE OS 5.2.19972 (Build 19972.1.2.7)
2008 Microsoft Corp.
ROM Version 1.13.666.7
Rom Date 10/02/08
Radio Version 1.04.02v
Hardware version 0080
PRL Version 31402
PRI version 1.42_007
So anyway I am not sure but this is probably really outdated stuff. I am not even sure if this is a CDMA device and how can i figure that out? I downloaded a diamond unlocker but it says I should install Hard spl 1.40 first.
So with my current config is it safe to do so? Any help is much appreciated.
p.s. I tryed to update the ROM trough the official HTC website but it wont let me update since it doesnt recognise my serial
number.
Look at this and ask questions in there:

Pocket e-sword installation

Hello.
I have a t-mobile dash successfully unblocked and with the Kavana rom/wm6.1 in it.
I am now trying to install a program called pocket e-sword, it doesnt install because it says there is some error and the cab file was not meant for this device.
I have tried all their versions of the program and none of them are compatible?
Please help. The only reason I have a smartphone is pretty much for this.
Google "pocket e-sword" and you will see the first link. I can't post it since this is my first thread.
I didn't install the latest for wm6 only because its only for wvga phones, and as far as I'm concerned the T-dash isnt.
Thank you for your help in advance.
'You are welcome to install it on a supported PDA or phone, but if it doesn't work for you then there is no "fix" or help available.'
From the site it doesn't look promising..

Click to collapse
Then you should have bought a pocketpc or at minimum one of the phones listed in the "click here for a list of supported models" link at e-sword.net's website. Read the requirements - Strong Arm/XScale, PDA must have a "touch screen". Yes I know, noobs don't like to read instructions, they just want to click and go.
This won't work on the Dash.
