Hi,
Just got a shiny new Orbit and I'll be installing WM6 ASAP but meantime I just want to get rid of the O2 rubbish.
Hard-resetting the phone and formating results in the phone re-installing but the "Corporate Install" option never appears.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
N
They got rid of that.
Hard reset, then when you get the message "Customising in 3 seconds" soft reset again before it starts.
You'll need to enter the GPRS and MMS settings manually, although I think there is a .cab file of them floating around here somewhere.
Thanks. I'll give that a try and report back.

I figured this out by accident..
I upgraded to windows mobile 2003 SE 2.06 but after I found out that half of the programs (MMS composer, cammera, etc..) dont work, due to incompatibility (error message says they are incompatible) I wanted to downgrade.
I ran the same ROM instalation (2003 SE 2.06) and waited for it to erase my ROM, then I took the phone out of cradle. I was dead at that point. I removed main battery, put it back in. Reboot the phone in bootloader mode (hold down D pad in centre position, then power button and soft reset - all at the same time). Then I put the phone back into the cradle and ran the ROM instalation of my choice. No more problems.
Well, I think using SD card method may be saver.
However, I forgot how to do this.
Cheers,

hello people...
i desperately need to downgrade from wm2003se to wm2003. please tell me where can i find my original rom of wm2003. thanx you.
by the way... my ppc is an O2 Xda II.
please do help somebody... its kinda urgent...
I have an xda exec running fine with the rom it first came with. Should I upgrade to the new rom and if i do how will it improve the performance of the exec.As it seems to be working fine with tom tom etc. would i be best to leave to leave it as it is. Not being very technical i would really appreciate some advice.
If you are not very technical and your device is working fine then you should probably leave well alone. As the saying goes, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Sound advice, but I think the attitude of most of us here on this forum is more like "if it ain't broke, fix it anyway"!! On a more serious note, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the launch rom and the update, but it really is a very simple operation to update the rom, it's nothing to be afraid of.

I will stick with the first rom and wait a few weeks to see if itis upgraded again. Seriously i have already hadsome real disasters with rom upgrades particularywith theearly pocket pc's.Today i invested in the xda mini s whichi will run as mymain phone.we really got the exec for tom tom and its use in a motorhome.I have managed to upgrade an imate jam in the past but it was very hit and miss.If i need to upgrade the new device i will certainly ask for advice on this forum-its members are so helpful.
best wishes

Upgraded ROM last night.
Took about 20 mins as suggested onscreen.
Seems quicker now but have yet to reinstall all apps which will consume some memory even if forced to SD.
Gift 1 month ago. 'Evaluated' it just for testing purposes for a week you understand. But I have had to wrap it up for xmas again.

upgrade
Thanks for the information. I decided to upgrade tonight after you let me know how simple it was. It all went fine. I even managed to install tom tom and planmaker afterwards and all seemsto work fine. anyway it was really helpful to know you had managedthe upgrade so successfully.
best wishes

I'm glad it all went well!
Anyway happy christmas-thanks for all the support.xda exec is working fine.i certainly wouldn't have upgraded without the advice.the exec is an amazing bit of kit.
best wishes patricia
When I try to get the download file from the O2 website, I get as far as inputting my IMEI and phone number but then clicking 'proceed' gives a page not found error.
This happens even if I try a different XDA (I have an XDA IIi).
Any ideas please? I assume it's a problem at my end rather than the O2 site down?

Don't panic yet. I had trouble myself considering I even have an O2 EXEC who actually released the update. You are not the only one. It takes about 2-3 tries before the computer and the Universal becomes connected. Just follow the suggestions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36115
Upgraded finally but still screwed
My dopod900 finally upgraded by using MaUpgradeUt no ID on the xda exec .rom133.188 with the final screen CONGRATULATIONS....BUT as instructed to boot....on soft resets many times it is still remain in the bootloader screen
I tried many hard resets it is still likewise ie.stuck in the bootloader screen.
Please guide????What should I do for christmas to get my universal working again?????

I must convey my sincere thanks to all the wonderful people for trying to help.
It is definitely befitting in the spirit of xmas .
I reflash a 2nd time..and when I reset after finishing the flashing the screen reverts to the bootloader screen with top...serial and bottom...v1.00
I tried the hard reset after failing in the soft resets over 6 to 7 times. the screen also reverts to the same bootloader.
I had flash 4 times n the soft resets, cold resets n finally hard resets revert the screen to bootloader ie top-serial...bottom-v1.00.thanks once again
maybe on boxing day luck may be better....meanwhile xmas still remains very cold on my universal dopod

Normaly no problem: have you removed your SD and SIM-Card? And also use the original usb-cable!
It'll work => at least at the second try!

Hi,
Today I'm trying to update my T-Mob Vario 2. I want to put a new ROM on it. Anyway, I read it's better to upgrade using an SD card instead of using USB.
I don't know if the updating process really succeeded. When the bootloader says: "Update complete". What do I have to do? A soft reset? Or what?
I tried to install Hard SPL v7 and I want to check if it's really installed. What's the best way to check this?
Thanks!
(and yes, I've read the FAQ/Wiki)

if you read the wiki you would know how to SPL on your hermes go back and read some more!
Ah, mrvanx's guide didn't work for the last 2 hours but it's working right now. I'll read some more over there.
But my real question was: What do you do when your device says: "Update complete". A soft-reset?
it will soft reset itself and u'll get the "tap screen to start" screen...
you can check yr spl by going into bootloader mode (hold the power and OK button below the scroll wheel and poke the stylus into the soft-reset hole and hold it there for a while).. to exit just poke yr stylus into the hole again..
that didn't sound quite right hahaha!

yup. it should auto SR, but if it doesn't, help it along
Nice!
I needed an hour of 5 to read some stuff and to unlock my device, make it Hard SPL and put Black 3 on it
(Yeah, for the first time )
Thanks XDA Community!
does anyone actually see a big difference between the roms as we keep flashing, i've flashed like 8 or so roms, and the only things i see different are from wm5 to wm6.....
just seeing how every1 else feels towards it and whether i should keep playing w/ it over and over...
btw... does anyone know why my wm6 always goes to the today screen after i wake it up again? it's not the today timeout option under settings.... so yeah... i thought a registry edit may have something to do it
I always upgrade from SD (seem faster than USB) and it never auto-softresets, so I manually do it with stylus. Never had problems.
Hi,
Just flashed my Orbit to WM6 from official O2 website, I've noticed the custom parts from WM5 have now gone i.e. last caller/battery. I quite liked these especially the last caller, anyone know if theres a download for the cab files to reinstate these?
Thanks

I had a problem the first time I upgraded as TomTom was installed on the SD card and it started running before the upgrade finished. If you have the sd card in, try removing it first and re-install the upgrade to see if that gives you what you are missing. Put the sd ard back in after the Orbit has finished rebooting itself following the upgrade - this is when the O2 bits and pieces are installed.
good luck!
cheers mate, that's fixed the problem.
many thanks.

Is this update good.
Becuase i already have one that works.
Does any one knows the contents? or what software is in it?
Hi,
I've searched over this forum and cant find an answer to what I need so I figured I would post.
I have a HTC S620 (sim free) and it has WM5 on. I would like to upgrade to WM6. (not 6.1 yet.) I have looked over this forum and found lots of stuff on how to do it and I have tried 2 different ROMs and also watched the you tube video.
When I use the official wm6 ROM, (even before I have tried to install the ROM) my phone gets to the white screen stage and then disconnects which means the ROM installer doesnt work because the phone isn't connected.
I have also tried to isntall the kavana 6.1 version and the ROM installer comes up with an error code which says the model isnt compatiable.
The wm6 official upgrade looks more promising if any one has any solutions? although any solutions would be very welcome.
thanks
James.

James,
How long have you had BT Anywhere as they have all been WM6 since over a year ago? Should bare any difference anyway, the phone will stop active sync when it goes white anyway.
You should be able to upgrade to WM6.1 without any hitches with following the "Upgrade to WM6.1" you should do this before hand http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2807194&postcount=485 if getting error message "mind you may help if know what the message is?"
Hi cheers for the reply. It's not a BT one, its actually a second hand one off ebay so I assume its pretty old. Its just branded as HTC...

Wow i must have been reading something totally different to posted lol
Still go with previous post to flash WM6.1 if you want to upgrade to WM6 you need to know what the original carrier of the phone is does it have a carrier plas on load?
Mind you i'd flash to WM6.1 if i was you as it's an advancemet far greater than WM5 to WM6
Hi again,
I've just tried the kavana 6.1 ROM following all the instructions you've said. It got as far as the white screen (through the DOS programme) and then it lost its USB connection which means the ROM installer wouldnt work as it couldnt find a connection. I'm running windows vista.
thanks

When the whitescreen launches WMDC will stop sync and the computer takes over via it's own driver, did you leave it there with the white screen or just disconnect Dash when WMDC disconected?
ive yet to change a rom on vista because of the lack of ativesync which is really dumb

I left it there with the white screen, didnt touch any USB connections or anything. When I did this, the windows sound sounded (as in when something is disconnected) and the green light went off on the phone and the ROM installer wouldnt run because it says the phone is disconnected...Cheers for your help btw
James.
Isn't there a center key press on the d-pad in there somewhere? Are you doing that?
Hi guys, I've managed to resolve the issue and im all sorted now. Just used a different USB port. Thanks for your help
