Any one have the same problem?
By the way, with 3.00.07.09.PV everytime after i return to the desktop from a setting page, the system runs very slow. do u guys have the same problem?

Hi there...
Just use Resco Explorer as it has the ability to edit files even if they are in ROM memory
I've fixed mine using this method and it is perfect now...
Best,
M Addario
thanks, but even resco cannot do it.
hi, iv tried that before, sadly, it doesn't work.

Try this with a registry editor
HKLM, Software, HTC, HTCHome, Weather, Settings
Put the city name, and the city/country code on the other.

I have tried to install the Good Mobile messaging application on the S620 and the installer identifies the phone incorrectly. So the functionality of the Good Mobile messaging is not like it should be. The installer seems to only understand what type of phone it is if it returns the "T-Mobile Dash" words from the ROM. is there a way to modify the ROM Name even temporarily so that the app will install.(crazy idea but thought i would ask)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
There's a text file: \Windows\ModelName.txt, that you can copy out of the handset, edit and drop back in. At the prompt to overwrite, say yes. Should take care of it.
~Cheers~
P.S. Here it is attached.
That's an excellent suggestion... but I how do i get the file deleted? it's read-only and it won't let me change that....
cgg
You just drag it into the window and click ok to overwrite it. It'll do it AND add the appropriate attributes automatically.
~Cheers~
P.S. By window, I mean, open up My Computer, open Mobile Device, and navigate to the Windows folder.
If it doesnt let you overwrite it from your desktop, try doing it on the device with a thirdparty file program, like totalcommander or similar, just put the edited file in the root directory, and copy it and paste it on the device itself.
I had to dl'd the TotalCommander to get the file changed. Thanks for the suggestion!
Still doesn't seem to solve the problem. The information being retrieved from the phone must still be returning something other than T-Mobile Dash
I was able to have it replaced without issue, and straight from the desktop. Weird how you guys had to use an app to do it.
~Cheers~
Did you ever get GOOD to work? I am on WM6 and can't get the OTS installer to work on my device. Do I need to go back to WM5? How do i do that?
i could be wrong but i don't think good officially supports WM6 yet.
Thanks for the tip about the file, now my phone has got it's original name.
Ka.
Yah GOOD does not work on WM6
I had to go back to WM5 for GOOD to work, and now it works great with my companies exchange server. There are some things i don't like, but i can live. Does anyone have any different themes or homepages that are compatible with the GOOD software?
I am trying to change black 3.01 Dialer Background bmp file to something else
I think this is the file in the windows dir " Bkgnd_Port.BMP" I can't overwire it as because it is in ROM and locked is there any way I can change it ??
thanks
Resco or another 3rd party explorer app will do it, I highly recommend resco.
ActiveSync used to be able to do it also, but not sure about current versions.
you can overwrite it, just copy your new file named exactly the same into the windows dir. You will need to reboot your phone for the image to change.
I just tested this and I know it works
edit: activesyn 4.5 worked as well.
Does anyone have the WM6 default dialer files?
I have bmp files
I have bmp files if you want
I think because I use vista , that's why I could not do it

Not sure if Vista works, guess you will need to install a third party app on your phone like Resco.
nevermind.
thanks
thank you for help
it worked wit Resco Explorer
i installed the kavana 6.1, and i have to say it works great, but there are a few quirks that are making me mad and maybe some of you guys have a fix for them:
gmail imap:
i did the [email protected] (or whatever you want as your domain) trick, and then going back to chnage it back to gmail, that works. but th ename of my mailbox is gmool.com and i cannot change it at all through account settings. registry hack?
i have a t-mobile dash, so pressing and holding the J button, or using alt-J should give me an @, but it gives me the GB pound sign, the & sign gives me the @. keyboard remap? reg hack?
other than that, it works great.

You can fix the keyboard crap by going in to resco explorer, opening program files, finding et9 and changing the icons in your notepad(your j,k,l,m will be all messed up as well)... or you can over write with this file...

Take the file above and drop it in the windows directory of your phone and overwrite the old one. That will fix your characters.
My device won't let me overwrite the eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt file. I think that's because it's burned into the firmware. I kinda expected this when you guys said to overwrite the file in the \windows folder. How do I update the file to get the correct keyboard mapping?
Also, it appears the 0409 file has the correct mapping. It's the 0408 file that's wrong. I tried updating that file on the device. Of course, I had the same problem saving the updated 0408 because I couldn't write it into the firmware.
resco explorer should allow the overwrite.....
OK, I got it. Another message in this thread said to update the file in the \windows folder. I updated the file in \program files\et9 and I was fine. Thanks for the help.
Hello. I installed Sprint's release of WM6.1. I have the HTC Vogue and I want to use Vista Cube2. I have successfully edited the Registry to make non-working icons point to the proper executable but I don't know what to point to for Settings and Programs. Those two icons give the "file cannot be opened... components cannot be found" error. The registry shows that they point to "\windows\htcsettings.exe" and "\windows\htcprograms.exe". Neither of those files appear in my windows directory. Can someone PLEASE take a moment to tell me to which executables the icons should be pointing? Without Settings and Programs working, I will have to go back to Sprint's Cube.
I just did a quick search for htcsettings.exe with resco explorer. that file isn't found on my device. hmm
I need a real GURU.
Thanks Dannysportbike. Apparently the programs that call Settings and Programs have a different name on some phones. The files htcsettings.exe and htcprograms.exe are not on my phone either. Does anyone know the alternate names for these programs or how I might figure out the names?

The files can be downloaded from HERE and dropped in the windows directory. Soft reset and they should work fine.

DUH! I should have thought of that sooner. Thanks much! Unfortunately there is still a problem with htcPrograms.exe. It will only run once. When I click on it a second time (even from the File Explorer), nothing happens. If I reboot it will work one time again. Any ideas?
Don't know about settings, and it sounds like you want the default Programs launcher, it's in the "\Windows" directory as "folderview.exe"

You cant just delete the folder, you need to delete the reg entry as well.
confused
I went into registry editor and deleted the settingsApp folder there is a bunch of reg entries in the folder and I followed what everyone said above. Am I missing something or misreading?
No that should have worked. One of the reasons I dont use smart tool kit, too many problems.
