Black 3.01-How to change Dialer Background ? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I am trying to change black 3.01 Dialer Background bmp file to something else
I think this is the file in the windows dir " Bkgnd_Port.BMP" I can't overwire it as because it is in ROM and locked is there any way I can change it ??
thanks

Resco or another 3rd party explorer app will do it, I highly recommend resco.
ActiveSync used to be able to do it also, but not sure about current versions.

you can overwrite it, just copy your new file named exactly the same into the windows dir. You will need to reboot your phone for the image to change.
I just tested this and I know it works
edit: activesyn 4.5 worked as well.
Does anyone have the WM6 default dialer files?

I have bmp files
I have bmp files if you want
I think because I use vista , that's why I could not do it

Not sure if Vista works, guess you will need to install a third party app on your phone like Resco.

nevermind.

thanks
thank you for help
it worked wit Resco Explorer

automatic install without hacking rom!

Hi Folks,
i found a trick to make an autoinstall from strorage card (like from extended Rom)!
autorun.exe looks for the file config.txt on the place is in registry stored in:
"HKLM\Comm"
"AutoRunCFG" = "\Speicherkarte\Autoinstall\config.txt"
so i changed the registry entry and now i am able to put config.txt and the files to install on every place i want.
on windows Mobile 2003 devices this works wonderful!
on problem i have now with windows mobile 5 devices:
when installing a question appears where to store files (device or storage card)!
can anybody help me to get rid of this question during automatic cab install??
i want install all cab files to device without any questions!!
pbelcl: apologies for my ignorance, but is this very different to a 2577 folder?
with a 2577 cab we could use this info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=225375#225375
and choose a default install folder I think for WM5.
V
Thanks for your quick answer!
i read the other tread and if i understood it right i have to remove the .dll file from my cabs?
i'll try this and tell you if it worked ....
I think the other way round.
I've never done it before, but you need to make a custom cab and .inf file, and specify the installation location in therere, and then the "choose a location" dialog doesn't come up. I'm not sure, I'll try this at home later.

Thanks, that would be interesting for me because i cant generate cab files because i hav no developer software for this.
i also have access to a cab file manager (at a customer) where i can edit the cab files and change them as i need it.
if it is possible to generate an "empty" cab file for me that would be nice ....
pbelcl: I never use the cabwizard either, I use cab manager. To make an empty cab, take any normal cab (download one of mine?) and just remove all the files from it. That's what I always do!

ok, this is also my way to get an empty cab file
there is one question interesting:
Sometimes there is a "CheckFile.exe" and a "CeSetup.dll" in the cab file.
Do i need them for any work during install this cabfile or can i delete them also?
I remove everything from my cabs, and then use cab manager and drag and drop stuff. So I've never used those files. I will have to read up on how to make a "normal", but I don't think they're necessary if you didn't put them in there!

Hi folks,
again my last problem with automatic install on WM5 devices:
when my automatism starts to install the cab files (from where ever) each time there comes a popup windows where to install the cabfile (storage card or device).
for my routines it is not important becaue most of my cab files only set some registry keys and dont install files on the device!
Does anybody know how i can get rid of this window and install the files to device WITHOUT question popup window??

How to change start menu button image on wm6.1?

Hey! Can I change my start menu button image on wm6.1? I mean is there this image exist somewhere in the windows folder so I can replace it like the boot screen? (without any 3rd party apps like wisbar)
Thank you!
TKL
any idea?
2 ways useing the program called wisbar google it
or make your own rom from scratch and hack some dll which include the image you can also find a description somewhere in the forum which dll not for most peoples though
but which dll..I'm gonna search the forum for this. Thank you!

i can't say for sure but i think its the shellres.dll file that has the image in it
Where is shellres.dll located?? I can't find it.
Edit: I found it And how can I replace the image in the dll? I can't even copy it out from the windows folder... I tried with total commander but no luck :S
as i said you have to cook your own rom from scratch on the computer to get the dll into it
pretty much what all the people who make roms in this forum does so as i said it's not something for the most users
you can prob read about how start learning to cook roms in the wiki pages of your device
you can do this without cooking it into the rom. With WM6 the file is shellres.96.dll. Use reshacker to replace icon number 288, then you must "sign" the DLL using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1262575&postcount=1
finally, copy it into the windows folder (you may have to rename the old one first)
soft reset and you should be good to go!
since you're having problems copying it I've attached a copy
BTW if you do this and it screws up your title bar icons it probably means that WM6.1 uses a different DLL. To fix it just delete or rename the DLL and reset.
i looked for this file on my wing (it has wm6) and there is a file named shellresapps.96.dll, so i am sure that it's probably not the same file....and it will not allow me to copy it to my pc so i can look inside of it, any ideas?
More help
I tried with replacing icon but it seems rshacker doesn't save that.
i mean icon not changed.
i used a 21x21 icon its of same size of original one.
please help

tried. doesnt work either
I cant believe the person who made this 6.1 Kavana rom didnt change the 6.0 wm screen for the 6.1 lol if someone knows how to fix this let us know, i know a few months ago when i had my TyTN 1 there was a few cab files that was a simple install that would charge this screen, anyone know how to make a 6.1 wm screen before system load screen ?
win screen
I down loaded your screen and copied it to the windows folder said do you wish to over right the file said yes but still get the old screen??
could it be that the old screen is being loading from the rom and just over wrighting the one i have just saved??
ok
when i reboot phone its still shows the old screen?
but if i copy the ms_splash file back to the computer its the changed one. and if i view the file on the phone its the new one strange

This isnt seeming to work for us, something isnt right but maybe not, let us know, this is the only thing this 6.1 Rom needs.
free memory in accessories is a very good app built in with all the other many great apps built into this rom.
Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard by Kavana.
CE OS 5.2.19700 (Build 19700.1.1.0)
It works.
Copy the file in the post above into My Documents in your phone.
Use Resco Explorer (on your phone) to "COPY TO" the Windows folder, and click YES for overwriting the file.
Just did it. You can use whatever screen you want as long as it is the correct size.

What you did , doesn't eliminate the second splash screen, but it adds a third one. The original ms_splash.png is within the rom itself. I've been trying to figure out how to delete it, with no luck.

The Splash for 1.7 is a BIOS screen to which i made to look like PPC as it brings up Memory & RAM, then it has a rather cool animation converted from PPC "found by Ricky" converted by another user
NRG's splash is a grey screen with NRG on it & same animation.

It's not that easy to use, like I said before, you have to do the registry hack for the ms_splash.png to even show up on startup. I don't know what pig vomit is saying that is that easy 'cause since ookba posted the wm6.1 splash here I've tyied to, and the only way that I got it to work was to edit the registry here. HKLM_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1 . Is not that easy , unless pig vomit knows something that the rest of us don't.

If it helps, I'm using the Ricky/Stylez NRG Rose ROM 1.7, but I pretty much outlined exactly how I did it, replacing the Ricky & Stylez screen (sorry) with the WM 6.1 screen. Yes, it was exactly that easy, just make sure you are using Resco Explorer to do it as it won't work with WMDC or File Explorer on the phone. Are the people having trouble with this using something other than NRG Rose 1.7?
Stylez, since you seem to be following this thread a bit, let me say thank you for all your hard work.

I'm using that ROM as well, and can change my ms_splash the exact same way. You guys should use Resco Explorer to search for ms_splash.png in the windows dir, then feed to listbox and change the properties to uncheck "read only". That might make it easier.

It might work that way with Rose 1.7 rom, but not with Kavana's or Rickwatt's remade 6.1. You can drop the ms_splash.png on the win. dir. but it doesn't get rid of the original one 'cause is within the rom. I did that and I had to do the registry hack to get it to work and I ended up with 3 splash screens
Oh, well that sucks... in that case, guess you'll just have to dump the rom files, replace the splash screen with a screen of your own choice, rebuild the rom and reflash. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

Can't Uninstall Taskbar!!

I installed the cab of tsowentaskbar6v2 in my HD (original ROM) and now i can't happen to uninstall it. it keeps giving me an error. and even if i try to install any other taskbar over it, there are still some "side effects" left from it. how do i uninstall it completely??? PLS HELP!!
Taskbar cab contain some protected system files, once you installed one of them you should not install others over it.
Solution
Give me the direct link to the cab which you already installed it and now couldn’t remove it, I will extract files and give them back to you then you should manually (using Resco explorer for total commander) move them to windows directory and over write them, after that you can uninstall the cab.
This is the direct link to download the cab file:

Edit: I think you are talking about this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=28619&d=1239056657

Yes you are right.
Uninstall any other cab which modifies task bar
Copy dll files to windows directory
Do soft reset
Uninstall tsowentaskbar6v2.1
I tried doing that.... but no luck. when i try to uninstall 'tsowen taskbar' it just gives me an error: "tsowen taskbar was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?" And even if i press yes, its still there. its just not uninstalling....!!!
I really wanna remove it now. it has also changed the icons for today, programs and settings in the start menu. any more ideas PLS!!!
Does no one knows how to uninstall this taskbar???
tsowen, why don't you only help me with this!!
Pls..!!
Sorry mate you've got 2 options, one do a "Hard Reset" the other install trail version of Sktools from here: http://www.s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html this excellent utillity has a better programs uninstaller then the standard window programs remover! this tool has got me out of similar situation in the past without having to resort to hard reset
I tried the Sktools, but it doesn't even show me the taskbar in the installed programs.
but in the default windows remove programs, its there. i even tried reinstalling the same cab again, but the installation fails.
Isn't there a way where i can just delete and replace the dlls in windows folder with original HTC ones. i mean we know the dlls that this cab replaced, now we just replace the same onces with original ones and delete any unnecessary files that came with this...!!!???

[Q]A noobie needs help!

Hi, my name is kostas and I recently become owner of a Blackstone!
After searching the forum about themes and how to create them, I decided to try and create one. That's when my problems started!
First I copied the windows folder from my device to my pc, then with manila editor I extracted the icons that I wanted to change and edit them in photoshop. After that, I replaced them to the manila files with manila editor.
When I tried to copy the new manila files to my device I got a message which says that I cannot copy them to the windows folder.
Then I used QuickCab to install the files from my phone but after the installation I started the TF3D and the old icons were shown.
What should I do to make this work?

If you used File Explorer to replace the files, most times it does not allow you to return them. The safest is probably to first disable TF3D (Settings\Today) and then use something like to Total Commander or Resco to replace the files in Windows. Soft reset and re-enable TF3D.
thanks for the advice. I'll try it and see what happens

Pleasure bro, hope it works for you. You can also look at HD Wall which allows you to create your own slider with your icons and then creates a cab for you to install.

Alternatively you can use Sashimi to copy the files to your Windows directory! But Total Commander should work just fine...
