Which is the best... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

...car?
After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that it is the Bugatti Veyron. With a proven top speed of 253.2 mph, it is the fastest production car ever built.
At top speed the tyres last a whole 15 minutes, but you don't really need to worry about that as the 100 litre fuel tank would be empty after 12.5 minutes.
It's got an 8-litre, W-16, quad-turbo'd engine.
So it must be the best right?
So, how come when I went to the dealer's last week to buy one, he said it wouldn't suit me? Maybe there's more to this buying a car business than I thought!
I went into it a bit more with him and it turns out that it costs nearly £800,000...and that's just for the car! There's a mechanic on-call 24-hours a day, ready to be flown to where the car is but I'm pretty sure you'd still have to pay parts and labour!!
And get this - there's only two seats! Totally unsuitable for me, my wife and my two (soon to be three!!) children.
OK, so not the best car in the world for me then.
I decided to go onto one of those car-thingy websites and use that search button gizmo - it turns out you can look for things that you like and use that information to decide what the best car is for yourself - imagine that!
I decided that before I dropped nearly a million pounds on my next car, that I should look into it a little bit. Using my new-found search skills, I discovered that the best car for me is what's called a people carrier - and they're nearly £775,000 cheaper than my first choice!! Wow! I could save myself a lot of money here!!!
So, I figured I could have a go of each one and find out which one suited me best - did you know that there's all sorts of different configurations of them? It really is amazing you know - under seat storage, built-in entertainment systems, loads of seats, removable seats, loads of boot space, more compact ones - the list of possible configurations is mind-boggling but did you know you can try them out? Test-drive them, they call it. It helps you decide even further which one is best for you.
So, I've decided I'm going to follow a few simple steps to deciding what car to buy next...
Look at what I want from a car
Look which available cars have a spec similar to what I'm looking for. If none are spot on, which is closest and can I add things to it later?
Try them all out.
Read some reviews.
Hopefully, following these simple steps, I can soon decide which car is best for me.
Oh, and lastly, I've just found out that before I can test drive any of the cars, I need to have insurance against accidents! If you can believe such a thing would happen.
I've done some more reading a discovered that the best insurance is available from the "HardSPL 2.10.olipro" insurance company ;-)

OK, OK, so I'm bored Bored of reading these threads that almost inevitably these days, descend into "I remember when people were nice to each other on this forum" kind of conversations before being locked.
What can I say, it's a quiet day ;-)
Smiffy.

But does the Bugatti come in a "Black" version?

It did, but the initial release had a couple of problems - when you started the engine, the gearbox would freeze and it wouldn't move.
Only the black ones had this problem apparently but that 24-hour on call skilled mechanic is working to resolve the issue and it should be done by this weekend.
Some people have resorted to running the standard coloured one for the time being.

HELP I WOULD LIKE TO GO OFF ROAD WITH MY VEYRON WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THAT PATCH HOW DO I INSTALL IT WILL I HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE LEATHER INTERIOR IM ALREADY A CARMECHANIC SO I KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT BUT NEED FAST ANSWER?????
PS IT USES TOO MUCH FUEL????
couldn't resist. Sorry

Light version?
Turns out as well that you can get a Car Light version too - something called a Motorbike? This has had all the extra bits taken out to make it much quicker.
My problem is that my Car Light (motorbike) version seems to be very slow. All I've done is install a few things - 2 extra seats, a ton and a half of bodywork, 2 more wheels, a sunroof, air con and two tonnes of junk in the boot. Why does my Car Light version now seem no quicker than the full version?
I don't see why someone spent hours converting the Car into a Light version when they've obviously done such a shoddy job. I expect the mechanic to look into it NOW and post a new version within the next 20 minutes that will give me all the speed of the Motorbike version but still able to carry all my family and their luggage on our holiday.
And then I'm not going to say "thanks" after they try!

Impressed...you guys are good at this!

I've wrapped my Blue Angel round a lamp-post because I was doing 533 (Mhz) on an open road with a 70Mhz speed limit.
Can I sue Wizcode for supplying me Pocket Hack Master? My insurance has gone through the roof now...

If I make my car CID, can I put an F-18 fighter jet engine on it.
Cheers

Very funny Like it Lord

I really like some of the Lamborghini bits, so I started with a official shipped Murcielago and then grafted a few parts from a pre-release Veyron onto it - things like the alternator (heard it has more power for quicker startups). Then I grafted the electronics from the Veyron also (heard they have better reception on the radio and consumes less battery power when the car is not running) - I can get two WHOLE days without starting the car. Lastly, I took the dash out of the Veyron because it's user interface is way better. Turns out many of the mounts where in the same places, but I just hacked a few up to make it fit. Overall, it is awesome - great battery, great reception, really fast, quick to start and looks great. On the downside, sometimes it just stops while I am flying at 240 MPH and now I have voided the warranty - I am thinking of returning it to factory condition to see if I can get free service. ANYONE GOT A GUIDE??? THXXXXXXXXX.

It will if you rip the front from an 8-track cassette-deck and fit it with bluetooth-tac to the front of your Lambo, just above the badge.
It's a temp fix I know but until I package the OEM from Grundig into a .cab it'll have to do..

Do we have a verysion by Lucas yet?

Camera Upgrade

I believe that I have read somwhere in this forum that there is a update/upgrade for the camera on blue angel which helps get clearer pics. I have done a search but can not find it. My actual version is2.21 Build 17084.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ERK_Patches_13x
So anybody tested them?
Does it make any difference..........i mean, there is from the starting point not so much to expect from a vga camera :?
I currently have 2.21 17084
Thanks for your quick reply! I just don't understand what this means:
"Note this is a higher build than but lower version than"
Which one is the latest/better version. Which one should I get for my blue angel, Fix_camera18157.sa.cab or Camera patch 10080401? I have camera version 2.21 build17084?
Do I just install the cab from the blue angel?

I suppose it should have said
"Note this is a higher Version than the one above, but a lower build"
And yes, .cab files are just copied to the PPC and executet for installation. Note that the .cab file will delete itself on installation
Thank you! It did help quiet a bit. The pictures are sharper now
Xda II
hey guys.....
is there something like this for xda II as well ?

so which cab file you did you get?
I just tested them both.
Now this is a mini test on only a few pics. in bad light, and a minimal difference on the pictures, but i found the 2.11 (Build 18157) to be just a ini mini little bit better, but in no way the same quality as you se on screen.
Anybody got an explanation on why its much better on screen (just with the camera active) than the actual picture that comes out of it??
For me it seems quite unlogical that the lens can capture a much better quality to put on the screen, but ones you take the picture the quality is much whorse.
How does this makes sence?

Yep, but why the h... not fiks it so it uses the lens full capasati.
Im beginning to get a bit frustrated over using so much money on a device thats not even finished.
I gotta say, that if SonyEricsson comes with a new P900 type of device thats more like the BA, i will consider turning back to Symbian.
Symbian has its own troubbles, but they are very productive when it comes to updates and getting things fixed, which definantly is not the case with HTC/Microsoft and probbably the 5000 companies they outsource to
Well I went form the P900 to the MDAIII, only since I got it free.
The P900 is a VERY nice phone, its small gives you addresses in and not just phone numbers, has a lot of good apps and when I go out I still use it due to the size.
The MDAIII, well its a PPC, and thanks to this forum you can infact fix a few of the issues like the language. Its far form perfect but its one hell of a toy if you want to waste time palying with it and trying to work out how to make it better.
I think it all about maket share, what is the point of having a PDA as a phone with a 5meg camera all in one unit if you can sell all three.
The technolagy is around, look at the Sony cameras. Shame but what can we do as the differences between men and boys remains the price of their toys.
Ha ha ha, I know MDAIIIUser........
It's just that I use it also as a tool in my business.
I have a lot of tools, and if one of them don't work as it's suppose to, it's just right back in their the next second.
I get no mercy when I'm out on a job, everyone don't get any mercy when they are on a job. If it's not finished........Well you simply just don't get the money. If it's not made by the regulations, you get a ticket to the court room, and don't expect it to anything else for you than cost a hell of a lot of money.
So you see, it's bugs me quite a bit that i buy a device at this price that’s not finished. There are major software troubles on it, making the phone part useless from time to time.
It's sold as BT compatible, what BT compatibility are they talking about??? Everyone is having trouble with it no matter what headset they are connecting to.
It don’t even have the most basic function found in every single phone sold world wide, a button lock that actually locks the device. I was sure that it was something I missed, just couldn’t believe that it weren’t in there.
And I don’t care if this is a PDA/Phone and not a Phone/PDA, they can’t be that thick in their heads that they don’t see this.
The hardware is bad, it’s getting more and more loose every day, the sliding keyboard is soon to become an auto sliding keyboard. Just hold it vertical and it will slide down all by itself.
I had the whole outer case replaced because the stylus was sliding out by itself. Now about 3 weeks later it’s so loose that it in the next week or so will be completely loose again. Then it’s in to service once again, me not having my tool which I spend a good amount of money on software for business use. Back to paper and then by hand doing the job in the office.
Now I’m guessing that this will happen again, that being the 3’rd time. Then it’s a full refund by law, and if the software isn’t ready at that time, I will claim a full refund or else ill just hand it over to my attorney. Buy a laptop for the car, a P900 again and then the irritation is over, and I can work in peace and quite.
The screen occasionally makes a high frequent sound when I’m talking in it, making it quite difficult to concentrate on the conversation. Unfortunately they didn’t have any new screens on stock when it was repaired the last time……….
I had absolutely no hopes for the camera when I got it, as I said earlier, what’s to expect of a VGA camera, and I don’t care, even though it would be nice to actually have one that could produce something just a little bit useful.
If I where the IT responsible person in a big company, I certainly wouldn’t recommend the boss to get 50 of these, the work load and support needed is simply just too much.
And all that said, ill properly end up with the MDA IV anyway *LOL* , what an idiot
Hum!!! Got out of bed on the wrong side or did wify have a headache??
Ok I admit the hardware is crap, my keyboard is auto eject at the momnet and the only thing I am REALY happy about is the fact that it has a metel case as I have dropped it (or was it threw it on the floor). My 5 yearl old girl has better developed teath than the BT on this thing. Yellow is a nice color if you realy like it but maybe not on a high depth screen. Don't even let me go down the rest, I will sound like you.
All I can hope for is the MDA 4 and that I get that one free as well. If its only to update wiki. Grin.
Thanks for your post put a big grin on my face.
Once there was a book "101 uses for a dead cat". Maybe we should start a thread for the BlueAngel:
101 uses for a dead BlueAngle

and hope that NOBODY postes the paper wheight idea.
Well let’s not take it all out on the phone.
I think it would be more fair to get that book out with the title “101 uses for a BA owners head”.
It’s going to be the worlds most paperless book ever sold
Well maybe we could get some highly respected brain schrinks expert opinion in there, then it at least would have one page, “I simply do not now”

Xda IIs is a disappointment

I've been using a PDA since the days of the Apple Newton! When I bought the Xda IIs recently in Malaysia, I thought I could finally travel light without my camera, iPod and phone. Sadly that has not been the case. My Xda hangs all the time, is unable to answer calls at times, sigh...
So I've spent the last 2 weeks (since I bought the Xda) trolling all sorts of forums looking for solutions. So do we blame Microsoft, HTC or O2? I think that it is reasonable to expect something that works as advertised but I guess not all companies have the same commitment to customer satisfaction.
I know I won't buy anything that comes from HTC again.
I think it is probably MS that should be blamed in this instance as the mics on the II/IIs/IIi have always seemed to work fine for voice recording and even on speakerphone so surely this is a software issue?
Having said that O2 do an incredible job of burying their heads in the sand with regards to the faults that we all nknow exist and it would be reasonable to expect HTC to actually test the phone software on their devices and fix the problem.
So lets just blame them all for bringing us all a package that so nearly is a dream convergence gadget and yet just manages to drop the ball at the last moment!
I have to disagree, what other device gives you Phone/Organiser/Video player/MP3 player/SatNav/Camera (still and video)/Email/Mobile Office document handling etc..etc..
OK so it's not perfect and admittedly the O2 stuff is pants but I have removed all that.
To be honest apart from the odd reset every couple of days I don't really have any problems with mine.
Hey, I even like the keyboard!!!
Perhaps I've just been lucky so far!
I suppose I will have to do what everyone is doing and tinker with the ROM, etc until it's right. You guys have certainly been very helpful as the site offers advice that you could never possibly find with support at O2. I do wonder if the HTC or O2 people actutally read these posts and feel guilty for not getting everything right for us
Don't disagree on the IIs being a cool piece of kit, I honestly would have to resort to murder if someone took mine off me but I just wish O2 would admit the problems with it as a phone & put some energy into fixing it instead of bringing out a ROM update which seems to have merely added more useless rubbish to O2 Active & moved the top bar icons around.
If the phone worked properly I would be ordering another 15 at work straight away!

I think they are working on fixes. But software development and testing takes a lot of time.
One O2 person once told me they could take the Imate approach - pitch out a new ROM as soon as HTC have it, and let customers test it, or they could wait and do it themselves.
1.31 is really not that bad, but I guess I don't stress my IIs.
The update isn't "bad", just not noticeably better than the launch ROM (once Bt bld 3500 is installed).
O2 don't even recognise the dodgy phone quality as a known fault. The testing arguement is just a cop out on there part as it's been an issue since the Xda 1, all 3rd party software companies seem to be able to patch/upgrade their software within 1-2 months of a new device release!
I just dont understand why people dont take advantage of the 14-day, or even sometimes 28-day, money back quarantees that all retailers/suppliers provide! People spend ages on informative forums like this one trying to sort out problems and sharing opinions so why not visit these forums before making a purchase? I dont really think manufacturers like HTC or Microsoft can be blamed as they're trying to provide a working environment within hardware/software with technology that is available NOW. Unless people are willing to wait/ponder for another year or 2 before anything that is remotely 90% stable as a pda/phone/mp3 player/camera then the IIs is as good as it gets.
IIs is just not as good as I think. Twice in a week cannot hear each other when dialing a call, but soft reset can solve to problem. Just really want to get back to confidence of reliance. I always feel people cannot contact me even when my phone is always on.
I have not installed any program relating to phone.
May be I should change back to a VGA PDA with bluetooth connecting to a more reliable normal phone, or just change a compaq.
IIs is a phone PDA but cannot dial and receive call sometimes.
Although it's sad, i'm glad to see it's not just me that has the can't hear amd answer calls problems.....I've had nothing but grief with my Xda2s. Thing is it does everything I want and stuff I can't get from any other phone.
Seems like you just have to put up with the problems if you want the most advanced kit
This is all about creating devices to keep shifting boxes, they rely on you wanting the latest piece of kit, it has always happened, flawed devices rushed to market to fulfil a demand created by the people marketing the devices and making all the promises. I have an xda 1, I have tried xda 2, ipaqs etc but I find this phone is reliable, allows me to add software in rom and it does everything I need it to do, I dont need a camera/bluetooth/wireless, I just need a phone/organiser/navigation system that works. I recently posted this topic.

Respectfully request a thread for Pantech Duo

Greetings,
You guys have been wonderful in getting to know my good ol' phone, my Wizard 8125 (which is now suffering from serious "seizures"-as in power off and on constantly). Now I have this Duo and frankly, even though it has many features that I wanted in a smartphone, the BASICS-can't hear people they sound muffled!!!
Now I ask that since some of your software should work on the Duo that you bring together all the people that are suffering from this and many other Duo issues. I will post here what I posted on Howard forums, my review on the Duo-got it last week and I am on the infamous 30-day trial from AT&T.
Don't underestimate this chick; I took apart and put together my Wizard four times; first two to give it a good cleanup b/c my daughter decided to dip it in OJ. The other two minor fixer-uppers and my phone worked fine for +2 yrs., till last month. I wanna learn more and more on software programming but have no formal education on either. I like to figure out stuff on my own.
So before I decide to keep it and tear it apart or return this phone for something better, I will be reading along the boards what in the world I can do to get this thing to work to my advantage.
Cheerio, Chica
My post from Howard's Forum Pt. 1
My review - I got it last week
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, first post here...
Got the Duo after still mourning the 8125 that is booting off and on constantly. And it was about time I renewed anyways. Here are my thoughts, still not 100% sure that I am gonna keep this one (because of what I am gonna write below I am gonna try switch it for another Duo.
PROS:
1- Got the Duo for the dual-slider. Hard to dial when in a car and I don't use my Bluetooth often. Busy mom, it is hard.
2-LOVE how clear and crisp the screen is. Bright, vivid and good enough space.
3-I know there are some users and abusers out there but I do my best to keep it in "Lock" and inside my case. The less I deal with dirt, lint, scratches the better. I will buy a screen protector though.
4-Took me a couple of days of breaking the touch-screen habit; it's like going from automatic transmission to manual. It was not easy but not as complicated as I thought it was gonna be.
5-I like the speakerphone, simply turn the phone over and adjust the volume and I can hear fine.
6-Looking forward to really modify the phone to my liking, get into as many mobile forums as i can and customize it to my lifestyle. With that said...
CONS
1-WHAT IS WITH THE MUFFLED SOUND? I read this thread SHOCKED that no one mentioned it here...perhaps in another thread. Multiple forums users complain about the same problem. Stayed last night till almost 1am doing research and getting ready to alter the unit and lookup some software to fix this issue like a patch or something; well at pantechusa.com they have a radio patch (it will wipe out whatever the phone had and bring it up to default). I hoped really that the patch would work but it didn't. I knew that by having the same version of the software on my Duo it was a 75/25 chance that it was not gonna work and unfortunately I was right.
2-JUNKWARE - The Duo has lots of them and they are really useless and take up a lot of your memory if: a-you don't have a PDA plan, and b-you don't care for them. First things first, 95% of those need the plan in order for them to function and get the most out of the Duo. Since I don't have the PDA plan ($30/mo) then these have GOT to GO.
3-Cannot adjust/distribute memory on the unit - I can stop working programs fine, but there is an area where you can see both "drives" where it stores memory. I can't go in and just click and manage it further. It is frustrating because it would make the Duo faster.
4-I suffer from the Curse Of The Worst Ringtones. Whenever I get a cell the ringtones SUCK. Which makes you wonder who this Duo was designed for, or going for which type of person.
5-MicroSD card-I got a 4 Gig SDHC and forget it, it does not work. You can see the icon top bar that it has the micro card inserted, can't see it the rest of the Duo. Big disadvantage because: Micros are evolving to SDHC and have way more room; a Duo just can't be lagging behind with technology and get stuck with a regular Micro 2 Gig card (?!?!?!). Because there is wonderful people out there that can do lots of programming and hacking, I found the solution at xda-developers from reading in this forum. Thankfully the xda people have helped me with software for my Wizard and it seems I will use their software this time around too.
6-NO WI-FI, NOT FAIR! I have wireless at home and I used to go online, Media Player, and look online for my fav radio station (from another country), listen live and with headsets, go about my business. Can't do that with this unit.
7-Battery Life-This has been brought up multiple times and yes, the first couple of days it felt I was dealing with my HP camera which sucks batteries dead in one day. Now I can deal with charging it either daily or every other day. With the 8125 because of the type of battery you HAD to charge it daily or the cellphone would pay the consequences. On this one the Pantech people say let it drain then charge it; I am not comfortable with that scenario and I hope I don't ruin the battery because I charge it halfway or down to one bar.
To me the worst are in "bold", and I expect the Pantech people to come around and fix the muffled sound-which is worse if you talk with someone from cell-to-cell. Will take the unit today to AT&T and see if by getting another Duo the problem is fixed.
Interestingly though, I am willing to give the Duo a pass if I can program it, hack it, alter it every which way I want so I can have some fun with it!

Forgot to add to the cons...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On CONS, I forgot to add that in order to delete multiple files, I cannot select them with SHIFT-(Select) UP or DOWN. Do I have to delete each item one by one and not by multiple selection?
Does anybody know a way around that? thanks!
Went to AT&T today to figure out swapping the Duo...
...and I can do it only once. If I decide to try and have another Duo and the sound on that phone is just as bad as this one, I am stuck with it. If I switch for another unit, of course there is the restocking fee; now if I decide to go for a Tilt or a BlackJack II for example, I assume I'd have to pay extra for price difference.

This site is based on htc devices..... you probably have to look for other websites..... there is new new one not much up yet but here is the link.....

im gonna research this and create a forum for it at winmodevelopers.
youll have to be patient tho ive only got 8 users
i mean dont expect a reply straight away, but hopefully all pantech duo owners will see i can accomodate them.
thanks for the reference joel
Pantech Duo
Thanks!
I still have it, I am gonna tweak it and see if upgrading it and add/remove software it will perform better. Still have to keep the Bluetooth close, just in case a long phone call comes in.
Phone is like an ol' pair of jeans you don't wanna part with...

SGH-i780 worth bying?

hello everyone owning a i780 samsung phone!
i want to know if this phone is dureable if its buildquality(breaking keys;etc) is good
i want a new phone having all the features like i780 has but it is used hardly often and long and maybe itll drop once (so it should survive a fell down from around 1m50)
or is this a **** quality phone like htc vox(my current phone) is?
is the housing stable? or will it brick from a drop or will the keys fall off wenn used to often?(red phone key on vox....)
is it well done quality known from samsung?
Hi. i780 one of the best phone I used till now.
Browse the review on www.gsmarena.com or on other sites to have a better idea of the capabilities of the phone.
Note that you can even have the new version of windows mobile on the i780, wm6.5....
Go ahead, you will not regret it.
1m50???? you are joking man!!
You mentionned twice the phone will fall down.....I think the minimum is to take care of the phone for it to last longer. So don't let your phone fall down too often please.....
I am using this device for more than 8 months already - and I am satisfied. Wi-Fi, 3G, QWERTY, memory, speed.... and housing is also OK. Formerly I used HTC VOX which was crap in comparison with Samsung i780... I think this device is worth for buy.

Hi friend, I think I780 is worth buying a lot, let me try to explain why:
1) Keyboard - If you're used to sending lots of SMS don't buy any other phone, try this one. The keys are optimallly spreaded on the keyboard and there's enough space among them, so it'll be easy typing and writing without making mistakes. Besides that, each key has a good feedback so you won't be able to fail the keypress.
2) Performance - I flashed it using an Ironeagle WM6.5 Flame ROM and it's strong as an ox. The device runs faster than many other ones and never hangs. I suggest you trying this ROM, it's cooked better than others and it's very comfortable to use.
3) Quality - I didn't expect this device to be good at running WM6.5, but I didn't either imagine it providing best quality. Plastics and frame are strong and scratch-resistant, my I780 fell over more than once and never scratched itself. I don't know if Samsung performs best quality phone, but this one seems to give something more than HTC does, for instance: it wasn't supposed to be this way, but it is and I'm very glad of it.
4) Accessories - i780 came out from factory provided with two batteries and an additional battery charger (I'd like to figure out why other manufacturers give us less than Samsung does........), headset, USB cable, windshield mounting unit. I think we won't have the best spending the least.
I hope I stilled your doubts......... Cheers!

thats what i call a great answer =)
you mentioned all i wanted to hear =) thank you!
of course the i780 is one of the best devices out there, considering the cost - the performance it delivers (none of them even come close!), stability (zero crashes...really, this is because samsung has really good drivers im guessing!), great specs (memory/processor/storage), really light and thin, front facing qwerty!
i'd buy another one as backup
also, another device worth considering is Samsung omnia pro....it retails at hardly 50 USD more..and its a brilliant device imo!
cheers
I have been working on porting Linux/Android to this for almost a year now. I have bashed it around, removed battery and USB easily over 10000 times and it looks like brand new!
By the way Android works quite well on it except no GPS, USB and Wifi currently has a glitch. Android will probably be working as good as WinMo in the future though. Also, Windows Mobile 6.5 runs perfect on it. Just keep these in mind.

and having the possibility to run usable android(not all freatures but mainfeatures) is although fantastiq =) dualboot is great. enjoyed this on my siemens sx1 =)
I've been using this device for more than a year now, it is getting kinda old so I'm always in the lookout for a new device that gives me the best combination of performance, form-factor (i like the hard qwerty keypad) and affordability that Samsung i780 provides. So far the only device that comes close is the OmniaPro b7330, but it doesn't have a touchscreen. I'm holding on to my i780 for the time being.

So am I!! I've been searching a replacement to i780 since I bought it......... But this hasn't been developed yet, indeed. I also bought a Treo Pro but I didn't get round to using it, the keyboard is unconfortable and the black paint is as thin as a paper sheet, it peeled just after a week.
Keep on using it

[Q] Advice on Car Signal Booster / Repeater?

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a mobile signal booster on the EVO. I generally have great signal, but every two weeks I have to make a two hour drive. I have signal about half of the time. Since the trip isn't terribly often, I don't want to spend a lot of money for a product like the Wilson.
The product I was thinking of was the Cell Ranger STIX. It apparently retails for $149 but Amazon has one for $14.99. Since I am basically teetering on usable signal, I was hoping this would work for me. I had wired antennas (plugged into the phone) that mounted magnetically back in the 1990s for AT&T (Nokia) and Sprint PCS (Samsung) and that worked phenomenally.
Any ideas would be great. Like I said, I don't really want to spend a lot of money since it's not a trip I make daily. $20-$50 is about my sweet spot. I'm pretty sure I don't want one of those silly stickers to go on my battery though.
Thanks in advance!

My comment really doesn't help you at all and i'm sorry for that, but i'd be really interested to see someone's "real-world" review of that STIX.
I've Googled for it, and the PORT (their USB version). The comments really go to both extremes with a slight lead in favor of the device actually working. I still want to get an opinion from someone on XDA who's used it before (hopefully with the EVO) though.

I believe the STX only boosts the signal one way (send or receive). The Wilson Sleek is just under $100. You can find it on the same alternativewireless.com web site.
you get what you pay for. get a 15$ booster and you get 15$ worth of boost. I read the reviews and honestly I'm skeptical of any electronic device that costs under 50$.
a signal booster that costs as much as a bad pair of headphones I would keep my distance from
Signal booster
I own a plumbing business and have tried several devices. Buy the Wilson or Wi-Ex brands that cost $150 minimum. Use the matching antenna that comes with it and you will be very happy. Increases your send and recieve signal.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate your input.
I guess I may have to see if I can find a sweet deal on the Wilson. As I said earlier, I wanted to stay cheap because it's a trip that I only make every other weekend and my signal isn't always dead. I'll let you all know what I get and how well it works.
