It's running painfully slowly and the GPS won't work so I'm going to hard reset my XDA and get rid of the O2 crap, then install TomTom. I know all this stuff is here somewhere but I’m up to my eyeballs in tech articles so…. Questions:
1. Should I upgrade the ROM, and if so can anybody point me to a suitable ROM image? If I do this should I unlock it first?
2. What's the best way of getting a clean install - is it to hard reset then soft reset before the O2 stuff loads? Or should I go for a cosporate install option (is this available for the Orbit) And how do I hard reset?
3. is there an easy way of setting up the O2 connection settings afterwards or do I have to do it manually?
Lots of questions and not enough time….

Hello...I currently have wm6.1. I somehow have hosed up some stuff (it doesn't even connect to the internet - vzw said I probably need to do a hard reset).
My question is can I just re-flash the official vzw 6.1 rom over top of itself? Or must I do a hard reset and then flash 6.1 back?

If you have 6.1 on your phone all a hard reset will do is reload the OS thats on your phone right now
red button+green button+stylus in reset hole until screen turn gray
follow directions and the 6.1 ROM you currently have will be on the phone as
brand new

Hey guys....it`s been awhile.
i`m trying to reset my Dash to factory settings to sell.I`ve tried both ways. hold soft keys, press power button for 1-2 seconds,i get the white letterings saying personal data will be lost, and will reset to manufacturer default.press send to restore manufacturer default.it goes thru its thing....(preparing your device, please wait.....) it goes thru cold boot config. when it restarts, it`s back to 3vo series rom.i`ve done the start/accessories/clear storage/1234/yes.
still same thing........weird....does the sim card need to be in phone to hard reset?
the hard reset does not remove the installed rom just the data to but it back to the default rom you must reflash said rom. the standard roms are in the wiki i think but sont qupte me. failing that they should be around on the forum somewhere so search and you'll find them. hope this helps
Stock ROMs in F.A.Q as paradox1985 states a hard-reset will only take you back to the base of flashed ROM not all the way back to stock.
Excellent .....thanks for your help.
I've read answers saying it doesn't but I just want to be sure it won't on my Stock Froyo Desire?
It's become unresponsive and I've cleared as much off as I can (e.g - Apps/Cache etc...).
Thanks.
A factory reset will erase all settings and installed applications but does not touch the ROM itself. If you're rooted before the reset you will also be after.
Thanks. Just the answer I wanted. I thought that would be the case but wanted to check.
I am new to the phone scene but I am wanting to reformat it and start fresh. What are the common things I need to do before doing the reformat/reset ? I have a plain Jane Verizon HTC M9 phone. It has not been rooted or anything of that nature as of yet.. I am wanting to do a complete phone wipe or disk wipe on a pc and then reinstall everything for my phone has become very sluggish in the past few months. I have ran several good phone cleaners and none have seemed to help so I figure why not do a factory reset.
What do I need to make sure I backup before proceeding with the reset?
What are the appropriate or best procedure of doing a factory reset before and after ?
What if any Apps are there I can use to assist in pre factory reset that will help with backing up all important files?
Are there any tutorials that I can read to help in performing a factory reset?
I figure I need to learn the basics of the phone as well as get a new phone so when I root my HTC M9, I wont be without a phone in case something goes wrong..
Thanks in advance for any and all info.
I have a fair amount of experience with computers not a newbie skill level but not an advanced skill level by any means either.
Nothing for resetting phones??
Hello, straight to the point so I don't waste your time:
Samsung S20 5G original setup, no developer mode, no rooted. Cousin had it broken at the operative system level, many functions got hidden or not working at all, and so on, so I applied a factory reset using settings, but previously I backed up the files he had on it.
All went good, BUT he, after the reset, asked for the SMS because he had important information and I backed up only contacts, files, and images, no SMS. My bad on that one.
Questions now:
1) Is it possible to use a computer with Windows 10 and software, like a recovery data one, to get back SMS, as long as those has not been overwritten after the reset, of course?, in case that IS possible, which software, free or paid, can someone recommend me to try out?, I understand there can be a small chance to get all SMS, but some can and is worth trying, just don't know what software to use, it seems there are a lot of scams out there in the wild of the internet.
2) If there is a chance, I'm thinking i would need to root the device in order to give the software in Windows connected to the Samsung using a USB cable, the rights to make a deep scan on the internal memory, to be able to get any results. I'm right on this one?.
If I'm right, what curse of action should I face?, I just want to root the device in order to give the software full rights, with no intention of install rooms or update the firmware or anything else. So, I would appreciate any recommendation about a simple a straightforward way to root the device.
I would really appreciate any help and information regarding these two questions, hope you all are doing great.
Kudos.
