Best rom? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

I know its a kinda noobie question and that every rom has its pros and cons, but i'm going to have to ask anyway.
Is there a "definative" rom?
I'm currently using the M5000 rom (as shown in my sig)
What ones are out there? and what sort of features can i expect to see in them? can anyone link to any usefull info or rom developers sites?
What is the better of the opperator roms?
I'm sorta tempted to try a WM6 rom, as i'm eager to see it in action. have the issues with the WiFi and the video call been sorted? i dont use video call much but i feel it would be a shame not to have it. i live in a 3g area so am able to test if needed
Again i appologise for a kinda stupid and hard to answer thread but i've gotta ask
Last of all, whats the stance that the operators have on using other roms than their own?
Thanks.

Sorry to bump, But i'd really appreciate any info you can give me here.
Thanks
Ryan.

If you value Video Calls, then you can only use WM5. There are only 4 I can recommend.
If you prefer OFFICIAL ROMs, I only recommend to look at these 2:
1) The latest QTEK ROM: ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]_qtek_wwe_13077_130176_10900_wwe_ship.exe
2) The T-Mobile NL ROM: http://www.t-mobile.nl/zakelijk/htdocs/page/service/hardware_updates/mda_pro_update.aspx
Both of these are stable and supports A2DP, both AKU2 ROMs.
If you prefer UNOFFICIAL ROMS, I only recommend to look at these 2:
1) JWright's ROM AKU 3.2 (1.90.96): http://rapidshare.com/files/21864540/J_s_3.2__IMate_1.90.96_.zip
2) Helmi's ROM (AKU 3.5 version 1.3.1): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286036 (I don't have a link, sorry)
Both of them are EXCELLENT. But Helmi's ROM is faster to reboot, so after a soft reset, you don't have to wait for more than 2 minutes to get all the data in place. Something those 3 I listed above suffer. BUT with Helmi's ROM, the Windows Live Messenger that came with it is a TRIAL version, so you have to install the HACKED Windows Live Messenger version that removes the expiration over the original. JWright's ROM will work well after install, no need to customize anything. From my experience, Helmi's ROM works well with my BT headset Motorolla HT820, I don't have lags, something I experience with JWright's ROM more often. But I don't know, it might be a software conflict. So in the end, it is still up to you to decide.

Cool thanks for the info, i'm not totaly sold to either official or unofficial roms at the moment i'm liking my m5000 rom without the orange crap, if i can improve on that, which it sounds like i can that would be great.
I've been a little reluctant to just randomly try out different roms, mainly because i'm scared i'll brick my Uni. i guess i'll just try a few out.
how hard/easy is it to wreck a uni whilst changing roms?
anyone got any info on the WM6 roms?

So which ROM is best LSVW, AX3L, Private69 or ausdim?

I just want a clean, stable ROM with bug fixes.
Thanx for any advice.
the best one is the one you like better.

This is the best one
The best rom is the one that covers your needs.
They are all great and this guys are doing a heck of a good job,so start flashing and get your own answer. All these roms have amazing features so like I said flash and enjoy it.
Read about Hard SSPL and SSPL before you do it and make sure you do it well, just to avoid (bad) surprises.

Wait for an official ROM. If you can't take the time to try different ROMs and start a new thread, this is probably not the place for you.
The spirit of this forum to look through the contributions that everyone has made to the development of ROMS, try to contribute in any way you can - and help those in need.
Please don't take me the wrong way, but to reach the nirvana you describe, lots of people have to try out cooked ROMS - and feedback on different bugs. Only then do we get our cookers cooking great ROMS ( I dare say the official development teams check in here, too.)
You should be able to decide based on different comments in different ROM threads (currently 2730 posts in ROM thread for mUn, LVSW, AX3L and ausdim modified version of "official" ROM) which one suits YOUR NEEDS the best. As you will see, showing an outright preference does not encourage ROM cookers and is not really polite.
It may be that you were bewildered stumbling across xda-developers - if so - ask for help - but don't expect a free lunch - try and contribute to the forum, too.
Don't forget to donate to the ROM chef once you've found your favourite - and happy flashing if you find it.
I have tried a multitude of ROMs over the past few weeks and was just trying to guage what others have thought of them. I have tried LSVW and AX3L more recently but was having some issues with SPB Mobile Shell on AX3L. I am currently trying ausdim's ROM and will see what its like. Will post back.
The last one called "official" is best for me.
Wifi working (wpa, wpa2)
BT with A2DP working.
VOIP working ( i need this feature badly). You can hear in speaker only but working all the time and very good. On any other roms i tried only static noise, echo and sound drop. Even on official WM5 rom.
No more power drain after data disconnect. Again important feature.
GPS working.
The only thing in this rom is that you need some patched to have video call, menu sounds and other tweaks. But it's best so far.
VM
Still using mUn's 2.00.S.E.
Absolutely love it!
So far so good with audism's 'official' ROM with patches. Tomtom working, SPB seem OK as well. Will use over the next few days and post back. I even like the default colour scheme
very happy with ausdim's 'official' rom. Nice and stable and none of the weird stuff i was getting with the previous ones.
The most important thing I learnt from the last few frenzied months of flashing on my hermes and trinity is that its not the rom itself but what you do with them that counts.
I now soft reset after re-installing each of my major apps after a new rom flash and it really pays off.
Particularly with the lsvw trinity rom where I was having some major issues where it was defaulting to landscape mode after soft reset when I installed a combination of apps too close together. I'm not completely sure which the offending apps were but spb shell, aebutton, and spb full screen keyboard seemed to be the ones to tip the balance.
Anyway, I generally try and find the cleanest rom and build it myself as we all have our particular favourite apps and I dont like doubling up on programs.
Actually, ausdim's 'official' is the closest I've come to my ideal rom.
I have tried them all over recent weeks. I prefer AX3L rom and his ext rom. That is my personal opinion
Have to say Bepe's is the most stable rom for me with the set of applications that I am using, great respect to all, but Bepe's had to be flashed to my device after using any ROM, waiting for more great efforts and the testing will continue.
Cheers
Private69, if you want something real close to the official.
Experienced some bugs with audism, so flashed to private69 with my own tweaks and cabs. Works like a breeze

Using the one from the original post, (this cab from ax3l http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=41737&d=1182077395 ) I can use wm6 voip but during the conversation I often ear noise.
Ciao
Tried all roms I could get hand on if they were english and of course bepes German as it is the only german out of the box but now I'm using AX3L's rom with the extrom. Its out of the box nice, fast, has a lot of free space and all my apps run smooth.
But in his rom the Battery leak is not yet fixed but there iss light HTC Asia is making a WM6 right now so the days are counted
For the moment PDAVIET its the best Rom.
Greats Remo
The Best?
The best is relative to what you are looking for, your style and taste. Personally I want stability and so far Private69's has been perfect in that area.
so far I have found AX3L's Rom very good and stable.

I'm lost

I've tried many ROMS on my 8525 and they all worked pretty well. Each had their advantages and disadvantages. I want a ROM that has a lot of memory, very stable, and works great with voice command. So if you can just drop by and recommend one. No need to flame or say something about the thread--if you don't like it, don't answer in it. I just want recommendations, thanks.
How many WM6.1 roms can we possibly create!?

I completely agree! In the past I tried several, but ultimately stuck with the Schaps roms. I felt they were the best for me- had what I waned, were fast and stable. Now in this last month with WM6.1, there are so many, and they're all apparently the latest and the greatest. It's confusing too that every cook uses their own revision numbering system also.
I'm using Pays latest rom right now. It's what it claims to be (for me), fast and stable. Will continue with that until Schaps (hopefully soon) releases his final 4.40...
It seems everyone is working very hard to get their own perfect rom happening- but wouldn't it be better if we got more collaboration going between cooks, and worked together to create fewer, better roms? It would probably mean spending less time reinventing the wheel...
Just my thoughts- take them or leave them.
no matter what ROM I go to recently, I end up going straight back to this one
I just downloaded the Voice Command file that was on here and im sure you will find it if you use the search function.
It is fast and has alot of storage memory and in my opinion is the most stable ROM i have put on my hermes.
Everyone is different tho...
I use Pandora Naked 7.0b2, the last WM6 Naked rom before mattk_r moved on to WM6.1. It's very fast, very stable and comes with nothing extraneous.

I have to agree. I tried all the 6.1's as they were coming out and within a few hours had hard resets. Kept coming back to Berds rom (linked above).
Like Schap rom so much ...... so waiting for full release of Schap's WM6.1
Thank you guys for the input. I'm using Faria's 6.1 ROM. GREAT rom--very stable. Just two things with it though: there's a memory leak somewhere and voice command doesn't work well at all. So i'll see what ROM to flash. I also wanted a lite rom, but it never came out. Might try schap's 6.1 rom when it comes out.
Have you tried Matt's Pandora Naked Roms? They are clean/stable. I've been using his PN7.2 for awhile with VC & no issues. I haven't tried his 9.1 yet (wm6.1). I'm waiting for all the bugs to get worked out.
Chris
No flame, just a lot of opinion... Regardless of what anyone says, if you are looking for stability, speed, memory, etc... then you may want to stay with a WM6.0 rom... Although I have run and am currently running a WM6.1 variant, I would suggest to anyone that either doesn't have the time to flash repeatedly or isn't afflicted with RFWS to stay away from the 6.1 Roms for now...
How much time is actually spent on a rom to consider it stable...? What are the measurements that are taken to consider a rom fast and speedy...? I am not taking anything away from the cooks and wish I had the grey matter to cook roms myself, BUT unless a rom is tested over a period of time (not two weeks) and repeatedly subjected to beta testing how can one say it is stable... We constantly have roms that are released and then we become the Beta Testers (not complaining mind you, its what I live for)... But we do need to remember that this is primarily a development site and as such there will always be releases that some of us consider to be substandard or less than average... There are several factors that determine stability and how often one has to perform soft/hard resets is one of those factors...
Well, let me get off of the soapbox, I personally liked the Black Series of Roms that are no longer under development... And since they are not supported by the cook any longer (for personal reasons), I would recommend Schaps 4.x series of roms... not the WM6.1 variants, but the WM6.0 variants...
Hope this helps...

I think Schaps v4.01 is very stable. It can use MS VC very effectively plus it is not hifi version compared to the current ROMs. Just the basic necessary things which are required for a good ROM. I have used both his lite and full version. You can try it out.
The ROM thread is situated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343942.
I have tried many kinds of different softwares also on this ROM which works pretty well and as desired. You can try it out.
Great to know. I've tried schaps rom actually and liked it but for some reason that i can't remember, i went to faria's. I think i might go back to this one now. Are there any highly anticipated roms coming up like dutty's 6.1 for the kaiser when everybody was talking about it before it came out?
I tried Schaps and just like last time, it freezes up a lot on me for some reason. Things don't go very smooth on it so i might try pay's rom or some other that i find stable. Any further recommendations will be highly accepted.
I was a great fan of Schaps roms but I kept having connectivity issues (ie: bluetooth, wi-fi) so i switched over to TNT roms. Love those. But it all depends on what you're looking for. For example, TNT roms have a lot of 3rd part apps that some people might not want. I personally haven't had any luck with voice command. Not even with the at&t rom. You gotta do your research. Check thru the first few pages of a rom thread that looks appealing to you and see what the immediate problems are and post your concerns/questions. Members here will be more than happy to help you. After all, that's what development is...isn't it?
Guys, I have gone done the same path as so many of you - trying each ROM as it came out. Before 6.1, I was stuck on TNT SE after being a major fan of Schaps for a long while. Now with 6.1, I have found CRC's to be the best. I dont use VC so cant comment.. Randomize is good, but no BT Explorer... have been operating with CRC for a few weeks now. Very rarely have to reset - only if I overload the thing and it locks up at 99% memory utilisation. Try it for yourself... The only comment I have beyond that is related to radio ROM. I have found that 6.1 seems to be more sensitive to which Radio Rom you are using. I have gone back to 1.43 and found it to be superior to 1.54! Be warned though, I have read in some of the other threads that an older radio ROM can cause the phone to freeze up, although I haven't experianced that at all.
RanDomIze Final Storm v2.10
I have tried almost every 6.1 ROM, this on definatly is the best one I have found.

Good Stable Rom i dont think there is one!?!

Alright i have tried about every rom on this site now i have had alot of good runs with some but some of them i have bad runs with some now i am going to ask some people...which rom is the best one for Texting and MMS...i would also like it to be fast and stable does anyone know of a rom like it lol
Thanks!
P.S - Some roms would restart on there own I HATE THAT!
I've use this one since it's arrival, and it's fast and reliable.

I find this one incredibly stable, just as long as you don't stupidly add the x-button program on top of what's already there. It'll create a conflict in the software and force a reset.
I don't text, so I'd advise reading through to gauge what other people think.

CRCs ROM
I too have tried every ROM on this board I could find. The one liked the best was CRC's r9.2. It seemed to load the fastest, from the get go. I noticed right away in the screen alignment. Here is the link.

For texting the WM6.1 is a must, with threaded TXT, it's amazing. Like you I am running the AT&T 8525. I had problems with my internet connection, then I updated my radio, here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/73390245/HERM_Radio_Only_1.54.30.10_CustomRUU.zip.html
After that, no problems.
I liked this one the best because it had everything I wanted, Task Manager, Office Mobile, Flashlite, and the auto-network config worked better than others I tried.
It will be this ROM for me, or the Offical ROM from AT&T. I CANNOT wait for his 10.4 release.
Agree CRC's are the go

I agree with this. IMHO CRC's Stable roms have all the features that are required. I have played with many but always come back to his stable versions when I want to use my hermes for work.
Stable and fast
Hi
I have tried most of the roms released here, and just 2 months ago came across DVH roms. This Vietnamese guy is really finding speed and reliability in my Hermes. It is the only roms that didn't mess up no matter what I install. All the others fail sooner or later or they are too slow compared to the roms of this guy

If you are on your 6th one in a month then how do you know they are stable? You dont seem to use them long enough to find out.
Most of the 6.1 roms out there are stable, however you need to follow the rules and flash a carrier rom before flashing. - some require a good radio rom etc.
i saw you posted in binkys 3.9 thread.. well im using that rom and have been using it pre-release and its fine.. no problems what so ever.. so theres something wrong with the way your running your roms.
So far I found Pay's last one to work the best for me. I have kept it longer then any ROM including the stock one so far. I will probably try one of the 6.1 roms again now that they are getting figured out more, but that will be after I come back from Greece.
All I do is text, MMS, make phone calls, and check the weather or check my email from time to time and the best IMHO is the MRH ROMs followed closely by the Binkey11's ROM. The MRH one is my favorite because it has most the features and apps but Binky's is really good for being light and fast. I am bouncing back and forth between them and I like them the most right now.
I am also a HUGE fan of Schaps ROMs so be sure to look for that one here in the next little bit. I would venture to guess it will probably be the benchmark all other WM6.1 ROMs are measured by.

i believe it has something to do with the storage, and the carrier rom returns the device to the original settings.
CRC's ROM's are the best in my opinion & I think I've tried most of the others.
Been running CRC 10.4 since release with no issues.
I find it's only add-ons or bad CABs that may make them unstable.
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite
Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite or Berd's 4.31 SS (=Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite with 3.62 SuperStorage).
Have been running this ROM for months now, zero issues and very very fast.

New Phone - best ROM

Alright everyone. Finally upgraded my phone from a hermes to a diamond. I knew basically everything about the hermes, and now I'm back to square one (almost) with the Diamond.
I've had a read through the Wiki and the forms, but I'd like to know which ROM's/radio versions out there are best for the Diamond.
Extinguishers at the ready! a popular question indeed. I use Dutty's it rocks.
I use Bepe's ROM, 1st because they are really stable, 2nd because I can manage my own language

Anything based on the 1.93 roms are good. I used one of the stock roms on mine.
Generally it is considered that the .05 radio is the best, but I found the .11 gave me slightly better 3G coverage. I think there might be a .16 on the way but I dont know when that will be released.
I'm just using the latest official ROM (1.93). For once I find the official Diaond ROMS quite stable and usable. I've flashed a few ROMS such as Diamond project and Elite and find more annoyances on these ROMs than the original: things like modded splash screens I don't like and web links opening with I.E. instead of Opera.
I recommend just using the latest generic HTC ROM for now, unless you have particular cause to change, though to be fair you could just try all of them and see which you like best!
It's all good fun.
OK thread cleaned up. Stay on topic please people.
@ Reb0rn - lose the attitude, if you dont like the thread, dont post in it ....simple.
I use the TLR 3 ROM, it runs on 1.93.xxx.2 and i like it coz it keeps most of the stock features/look but with upgrades and tweaks to make it faster + its very stable - It is also one of the very few (if only) ROM's that includes the AppToDate application which allows you to update the phone over the air and hence means you don't have to flash the phone too often to get the latest stuff.
The .05 radio is the best and also makes the phone quad band... (you may also want to check out the Gsensor apps page on the 'diamond' part of the forum some cool stuff their.)

which ROM/kitchen

Hello
Can anyone suggest which ROM/kitchen should I choose?
Currently I use Artemis Touch and it seems very good, but I would like to upgrade to 6.5.
I'm no afraid of kitchen and I'm able to make my own OEM packages, hovewer I need stability. At first I was thinking about Shady's ROM or kitchen, but it seems that while it have new versions often, it isn't stable at all (Microsoft fault, but it's fact). It has problems with GPS, Outlook, it haven't MMS builtin etc.
Can anyone recommend ROM or kitchen - may be not the newest one build, but as stable as possible.
any help, please?

i'd like to know too.
I'm using a beta 6.5 that works very well but there must be something better out there.
Also, in our quest; can anyone recommend a pc based artemis emulator to try roms out before we flash. We could do a study and post results rating the best roms then.
Ste
there is no emulators, as I know. There is only simulator together with Microsoft's developers tools.
Careful with these
Hi All
I have tried lots of ROM and I found out that Dhee is the best. Theres always some problem or other with other ROM. Also the sound quality is vey fine in Dhee.
I am a student and I guess that we should be careful and analyse very well before flashing. Huh! Please guys we can't just brick such an expensive mobile else our folks will brick us in the process of testing. Therefore, I would be grateful to all those who post their views and experience here. Thanks in advance.
For me am sticking with wm6.1 as 6.5 has far too many bugs and issues and as am away quite often am not able to test a rom then revert back to something far more stable... Am looking forward to a good all round stable and fully working 6.5.. But till then 6.1 is for me.
Best rom I have flashed and used so far is the Touch 4.02 rom(vanilla) works excellently good amount of free program and storage ram.. Fairly speed(have used hackmaster to clock to 249mhz for bit more speed) every thing works perfectly inc sms and mms which are some of the main faults with wm6.5...
Can highly recommend it..
regards
Lohtse
