Heres a question for you guys...
I use NoData (cool app) to stop my phone connecting to O2's ridiculously expesive GPRS service.
However I cannot send/receive MMS. Do I need to leave O2 Active as enabled in NoDat for this to work?
Also -how to I surf the web using O2 Active? I get 512k free so may as well use it to check the news now and then...
sorry for the double post - IE7 strikes again
.............
O2 Active is WAP and that is what MMS is sent over. Data is 'Mobile Web'

i always get this error message:
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
i have already set my gprs/mms settings. i tried using my sim on another fone and i was able to send/receive mms. anyone encountered this error?
btw, any smart users here using xda 2s? any one of you having problems sending/receiving mms and accessing gprs? i used the automatic configuration whenever the phone performs a hard reset (xda 2s phone bought from smart has an automatic configuration both for smart and globe). i also tried using the cab file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20826.
tnx!
Try a manual setting -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21900 has a Virgin setting tutorial. That might help!
Dilip, I noticed that you live in India and would like to know if you have GPRS working. If so, what carrier are you using? I'm using Hutch and was told that they didn't support GPRS on Pocket PC phones, which is hard to believe..

Hi
I've had my orbit a few months. Nothing out of the ordinary loaded on it :-
Opera
XnView
TCPMP
SK Tools
Battery Status
A few days ago it started throwing up a network logon box every time I receive or send an SMS. I have 2 dummy connections setup for Internet and Work so that it will not connect to GPRS without me knowing - I did this since day 1 with no problems. It means I can be absolutely sure that I am not getting GPRS data charges without me intitiating it.
So, it would seem that my orbit is trying to use GPRS for messaging. I've changed the setting from GSM preferred to GSM only, but this has not stopped the problem.
Can't recall any software load or changes immediately prior to this happening.
Any suggestions?
Michael
Well I can answer my own question - I had received an MMS and it was trying to dial out to get the photo !!
Michael
goto start-setting-connections and click on sms service change it to gsm preferred.
to disable GPRS use this utility
http://www.benrichards.co.uk/?p=180
toggle and disable or enable

I want to change some settings of my Trinity (running WM6 on it)
I only want to use my network for calling, recieving/sending sms and recieving/sending mms. And not for internet by using GPRS or any other paid connections. What do I have to change in the settings?
The only way that I want to use internet is by ActiveSync, WiFi or bluetooth.
I have a dutch provider (Telfort, free roaming on KPN-network) I don't think that this is important but it can't harm to tell you
I also don't mind when you want to answer in dutch but english is oké to!

Go to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced, Select networks and check your settings.
If not possible, in worst case delete the settings for GPRS.
But what do I have to change there?

You won't need a data connection for voice calls and SMS but you will need one for MMS messages. Go to Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Connections/Tasks/Add a new modem connection. Name the connection anything you'd like or leave as My Connection, select Modem as GPRS, 3G, then all you need is to enter is the APN name which I believe for Telfort is: internet. Leave all other settings default. You will also need to enter the MMS settings for Telfort; let me know if you need help with that.
If you have existing settings you can also go to Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Connections/Tasks Tab/Manage existing connections and enter the correct APN.
I have entered the correct mms settings (at least, I entered the settings that are given on the telfort site for pda for WM5. But I guess it will work fine on WM6 to )
So the problem isn't that I don't know how te use my mms. But I want to be sure that it doesn't make any other data connection. For example a internet connection or any other data connection except sending/recieving mms.

MMS will use GPRS when sending or receiving, so it uses the same access point as if you were using Internet Explorer. If you are trying to not use any data it won't work. Internet Explorer or Email Account will also use GPRS unless you have an active Wi Fi session open. I'm not sure if Telfort allows MMS server access if you don't go through their APN, so using Wi Fi with MMS may not work. You'll have to give it a try.
Isn't it possible to say that only mms has the rights to use gprs. And to only block internet and e-mail from using gprs?

This may be possible by editing the registry. Maybe someone in this forum knows how to do this. I'll do some research and let you know if I find an answer.
Ok I hope that it is possible. Everytime when I use WiFi at this moment, I'm in complete fear No but I will be more relaxed using my phone to the max, knowing it won't cost me a thing

I'll keep looking for more information.
Go to a telfort shop let them delete your apn settings
Unlimited internet with the $5.99 T-MobileWeb service
The $19.99/month T-Mobile Total Internet package is not required to have unlimited internet access on the Dash, instead the $5.99 T-MobileWeb service is all you need. Note the following limitations to the T-MobileWeb internet service:
1. The internet applications on your device will need to have an option to specify a connection to a proxy server, if it doesn't have this option then the application most likely will not be able to access the internet.
2. The following applications will not work over T-MobileWeb: MSN Messenger, Agile Messenger (without the proxy option), some streaming media, Hotmail, Pocket MSN, and Java applications.
To setup the internet connection over T-MobileWeb follow these instructions:
1. Add the $5.99 T-MobileWeb service to your current voice plan (it may take up to 72 hours to activate, but typically takes less than 24 hours).
2. Follow the below instructions to setup the Dash:
USE THIS SITE AND SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM AND IT EXPLAINS TO YOU HOW TO SET THIS ALL UP...

wow this is new ;P
It's not really new. You actually can't access it with the latest Tmobile ROM for the Dash (which includes WM6). They have disabled it. You USED to be able to access the web with the old ROM but they disabled it for the most recent one. I pay the $20 a month, and I use it quite a bit, but I also have a laptop and connect to TMobile hot spots pretty regularly as well.

Funny, I use WM6, pay $5.99/month and I can still use PIE and get Gmail through Edge. Glad you're utilizing the $20/month plan to its fullest, but I'll take the $168/yr savings.
Oh This works... I use it on my WM6 all the time, and I do not pay 20 bucks a month but rather 5.99... HAHA
saying its disabled might be some jive from someone that works for t mobile or is some weird corprate loyalist fan boy maybe. cause i have wm6 and the 5.99 trick is still solid

Just what I was thinking.
yeah, it works like a charm for me...and there is nothing that T-Mobile can do for it because I used to work for T-Mobile for about 5 years now...
Thank you it work like a charm
I just receive the "The remote party has ended the Connection". It was working fine yesterday and I've also have the 5.99 plan already. I tried to google but none of the solution seems to help me. I've tried to hard reset, turn off /on phone in com manager. Recheck my proxy settings. Internet explorer connection change to "internet, and WAP network" nothing seems help....
NVM I just flash my rom all over again and now it seems to working like normal. Still if the the remote party has ended the connection come up again what shall i do? is there a fix for it.
Is there another Internet browser that work w/ the proxy settings? I've been using IE but notice its very sluggish and slow. I heard Opera and thunderhawk 2.0 is super fast comparing to IE. I've tried Opera but there was no setting for it to connect to the proxy......
yea i dont think it works with the new ver of the dash(rom)1.22.531.6 cuz i had it working on my previous dash before it got stolen now i cant get it work on this dash my t zones have limited mobile web access and when i try to use IE to access a website it says u dont have access to the site can anyone help me
is there any program like AIM that works for this $5.99 plan?.. I'd really like to sign in.. :-/
Actually it works on WM5, and when you upgrade to WM6, the settings have to be entered just slightly different for everything to work...
Here are the main settings for WM6:
T-mo Data 1
to : Wap
Access:
wap.voicestream.com
T-mo Data 2: Work
Access:
wap.voicestream.com
Proxy 1:
from: wap
to: internet
proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
type: http
Proxy 2:
from: work
to: internet
proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
type: http
Now for your email to work and internet browser, you may have to go into the email app and the Browser to specify the data source..(experiment a little)..but I gurantee this works on WM6 and the $6/mth t-mobile internet.
As you can see there is a proxy server involved so some apps like AIM or WIndows Live might not work. But I know it works for web browsing, pop email, Outlook email (yes even the push email), and most stuff in general.
By the way, if you don't already have the t-zones, it's best to have your sim card in a non-smartphone and nothing with qwerty or blackberry, because technically it is not avilable foe the dash and etc..So having the sim card in like a RAZR and used it a few times, then login to my t-mobile, add the $6/mth internet, will be active in 24 hrs. and use the above settings.
this still works like a charm for me...
