Orbit trying to use GPRS for SMS !!! - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi
I've had my orbit a few months. Nothing out of the ordinary loaded on it :-
Opera
XnView
TCPMP
SK Tools
Battery Status
A few days ago it started throwing up a network logon box every time I receive or send an SMS. I have 2 dummy connections setup for Internet and Work so that it will not connect to GPRS without me knowing - I did this since day 1 with no problems. It means I can be absolutely sure that I am not getting GPRS data charges without me intitiating it.
So, it would seem that my orbit is trying to use GPRS for messaging. I've changed the setting from GSM preferred to GSM only, but this has not stopped the problem.
Can't recall any software load or changes immediately prior to this happening.
Any suggestions?
Michael

Well I can answer my own question - I had received an MMS and it was trying to dial out to get the photo !!
Michael

goto start-setting-connections and click on sms service change it to gsm preferred.
to disable GPRS use this utility

toggle and disable or enable

GPRS/MMS not working with XDA IIs

i always get this error message:
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
i have already set my gprs/mms settings. i tried using my sim on another fone and i was able to send/receive mms. anyone encountered this error?
btw, any smart users here using xda 2s? any one of you having problems sending/receiving mms and accessing gprs? i used the automatic configuration whenever the phone performs a hard reset (xda 2s phone bought from smart has an automatic configuration both for smart and globe). i also tried using the cab file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20826.
tnx!
Try a manual setting -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21900 has a Virgin setting tutorial. That might help!
Dilip, I noticed that you live in India and would like to know if you have GPRS working. If so, what carrier are you using? I'm using Hutch and was told that they didn't support GPRS on Pocket PC phones, which is hard to believe..
Cingular
I am looking for help with GPRS/MMS on an XDA IIs activated on Cingular.
contact your service provider they will give you your gprs and mms settings. im thinking we should have a sticky for this.

Question about blue angel, GPRS and phone calls

Ok. i bought an XDA2s a while back, and modified the rom to the latest iMate rom. on the irish o2 site (where i bought the phone), in the XDA2s FAQs page (http://web.o2.ie/business/phones_and_devices/xda/xda2s/faqs.jsp) (number 2) they state that you cannot recieve calls when your downloading from GPRS. my question is: Is this a network problem or is it a device thing? i have moved network (Vodafone Ireland). i have not had a chance to try it out, but i just wanted to find out if anyone knows. My reason for asking is if there ever is a release of windows mobile 5 for the BA and you use it talking to exchange for the push email, will you ever be able to get a phone call?
It's a device limitation. Phone calls always supersede GPRS so your GPRS connection will be temporarily cut off when you get a phone call.
So, the device will kill the GPRS connection when a call comes in so i can answer the call? Well then O2s FAQ is wrong then. both cannot be used, but the phone will ring and not transfer to the message minder. sweet. thats what i wanted to know.
Thanks!

Vodafone UK GPRS failure

Hi guys,
I have been running WM6 for about a month, but a couple of days ago I found that I could no longer establish a GPRS connection. I get an error saying:
"There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network."
I have checked and double checked my connection settings and I get the same error for APN: internet and APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
The paranoid part of me wonders if they are blocking certain upgraded versions of WM? I can't think what else it could be?

Review applications you have installed recently. I've had similar problem with T-Mobile UK once, I've called CS few times and I was almost ready to send my Vario II back for repair, when suddenly turned out that beta version of BatteryStatus (Today plugin) was blocking GPRS connections. After upgrading to new version connections problems just stopped happening.
I found an even weirder solution. I'd tried resetting the device with a stylus (usually fixes things), but that didn't help.
But then coincidentally I had just done an SpbBackup which resets the device at the end via software. When it came back it was working!

Cannot connect EDGE problem.

Hi Friends!
Now seems that I have a serious problem, my Diamond still with the "Cannot connect" problem, displaying the following message in any data transfer attempt:
"Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again."
It started just after updating from TLR2 to TLR3 ROM and Unsigned Hard SPL from OliNex, where radio version also changed.
Before that everything was working nice but now I have nice voice and WIFI quality, GPS and SMS are working as it should, but no GPRS/EDGE data connection.
Ive checked the connection settings lots of times, tried all RADIO versions and reflashed the following ROMs with the following Claro (Brazil) connection settings:
Settings > Connections > Connections > My ISP
APN: claro.com.br
User: claro
Pass: claro
Proxy settings: Only first box checked.
Tried setting network band manually for GSM, PAP and CHAP authentication, enabled and disabled HSDPA without success.
ROMs flashed for tests:
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26.25.09_0.93.25.26_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE_1.37.871.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship
- tlr-diamond-2.08.07.01
- tlr-diamond-3.08.07.16
The same SIM card works perfectly in another cell phone, so I think it isnt the problem as shouldnt be with operator CLARO, here in Brazil.
Ive noticed, doing some internet search, that this problem used to happen in other HTC models, but I couldnt figure a way to solve the problem or what were its true origin.
I really need some help with this issue, since data transfer is very important to me.
Tnx in advance for your attention and help!

Some news:
Finally Ive discovered that my Daiamond is from Honk Kong after searching its part number.
I downloaded the RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1 ROM and got a surprise that it now have the Claro, and other operators from Brazil, connection settings in HTC Connection Setup, so the connection settings itself shouldnt be the issue.
The "cannot connect" problem persists...
I should donate to someone that can help me solve this problem, since I dont have any more hints to solve it...
Tnx!

Any settings in your Proxy settings field?

Hi Laubscherc;
Double checked that too, even in automatic settings from "HTC Connection Settings Tool"
Anyone knows if there is any way to make any kind of log or debug to see while it tries to connect?
I think Im getting some hint about my problem with EDGE/GPRS connection. Ive entered field test mode by dialing *#*#364#*#* and in the Group GPRS / E-GPRS I can see some fields displaying 255: <Unknown> parameter.
Some of the fields are RLC: Uplink Coding Scheme, RLC: Downlink Code Scheme, MAC mode and others.
I think it should display the settings to work with my operator, but the question is why they arent filled and how to correct this? There some kind of editor for those settings?
alfatag i have exactly the same problem as you.. and as you too don't know how to figure it out. Allready posted a thread here as you did, but nobody helped. I hope some one who know a lot about the subject can help us. At least is better now, i was thinking i was the only one who have such a big problem. ^^
If u want to, add me on msn = [email protected]

Same problem with Edge Connection

Data connection not working on Rapahel (O2 XDA Diamond Pro)

Hello,
is tried to install XDANdroid serveral times with different builds now.
It always worked fine, but i cant get data connection to work.
Yesterday i even did a hard-rset, formatted SD and installed th Froyo .cab:
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732362
My Network is O2 Germany.
I tried the to pre-installed APNs and also the APN settings i found on the internet:
APN: internet
other settings not set.
I tried to search in the forum and google... but no one seems to have such problem.
Can anybody help?
Bye

I have had issues with this in the US. I was able to solve this by getting the settings from the O2 website under Data. Make sure that the proxy and apn settings reflect the website info. If that fails, contact O2 and ask for the data connection settings to be emailed to you. They have a long drawn out set up process, so this may be where you're hitting the brick wall - so to speak.
