This is no B.S. I was driving the other day and had to reboot my phone because it became sluggish. Of course it went into a rebooting frenzy so I took off the battery cover and pushed in on the microSD card.
Guess what happened...
The damn thing flew out of the phone, hit the windshield and went down the defrost vent! Sure, a 2 GB MicroSD card is about 30 bucks now, but 2 gigs of documents aren't.
So I called 2 Pontiac dealers and 2 body shops. The cheapest quote I had was about $500 and the most expensive was over a grand. They would have to remove my dash, all of the duct work, and possibly the compressor. Depends on how far it went and what tunnel is went through.
So I did what every normal person would do...
I tore my car apart, outside, in the dark, at 10pm and LUCKILY found it!

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. IF YOU REBOOT YOUR PHONE WHILE DRIVING, POINT THE DAMN SD SLOT TOWARDS ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE WINDSHIELD (well, not at an open window either).

LMFAO!!!
That's the funniest thing I've heard in weeks. Sorry but I would have to have done the same thing.

How do you backup the phone. Sprite Backup is terrible. It doesn't do a great job at all. It just causes your device to be unstable after you restore it because you cannot remove programs.
JAmerican
not necessarily the phone, but the data that is on it. I'm not a big fan of the phone backup software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But your device is better off if you reinstall everything. Kinda like how your PC should get reloaded from scratch every once in a while.
ActiveSync will backup the data in your MyDocuments folder on the device if you tell it to. I manually copy the data on the microSD card over to my other device's miniSD card.

Same happend to me some weeks ago, but it hit my wife
did your wife get mad when you chopped her up at 10pm too?
I have had SD's go bad in the past so i always back mine up (when I remember) too.
Put the phone in flight mode (turn off the pgone radio) before you reboot and it will not loop on you. Sorry for the problem though, that sucks.

Sprite works well for me ... no problem here:
the trick is to:
/ clear storage before restore ( everytime )
/ use the "SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab" ( posted somewhere on forum already )
...Make sure you re-boot your device before running SDA_ApplicationUnlock
/ use the "SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe" ( posted somewhere on forum already )
/ Now you can run the EXE that was created by SPRITE ... but not before the above 3 steps.
Haha that is crazy man, although it seems like that would be my luck too.
I agree, Sprite Backup is awful. But, in this case, the poster mentioned it was the document files on his MircoSD card that were important enough to tear apart his car. You don't need to backup the device to backup files on a storage card -- just drag them over with ActiveSync, or, put the card in an adapter, put it in your latop and drag the files into a folder on your PC.

My new replacement Dash, less than a month old, has a blank white screen. (See attached) The phone otherwise works perfectly, and is fully functional when the screen is echoed to the desktop with My Mobiler. (also attached).
I have been running Kavana's 80314 overclocked happily for 5 or 6 days now, and everything was functional, fast and stable. After just using it for a call, I pulled it back out of my pocket and found the screeen blanked-for-good. Any ideas?

Have you tried reflashing it ? This was an issue with an older Kavana ROM.
No, but I will. Back in a minute or two.
I have re-flashed with 80314, 80318, and the Kavana/Ricky; no easy task with no screen! Problem continues consistently.
so: the screen stays white through
soft reset
hard reset
sprite restore
attempts at entering bootloader mode
entire process of ROM flash.
Anyone have more ideas, or links to other threads on a fix?
If a ROM flash is going to cause bricking days after the fact, I can't recommend it, to say the least.
However, I may have an insight into the common 270 error. Anytime I allowed autolock.exe to lock the keys, the ROMs would appear to be corrupted. Will post on that thread.

Be thankful your phone isn't injured like mine. After flashing to Kavana's latest ROM, installing my programs, receiving my 8GB SDHC card, and watching a few movies stored on that card, I dropped my phone (on a soft carpet) and screwed up the LCD. You would think that after surving 10 or so concrete and hard surface hits, that carpet would be no opponent. I guess I should edit my signature.
Maybe now I have an excuse to get the AT&T Tilt.......

Wanna sell me the card?
Ebay look for a screen...or sell the phone for parts
Sorry Mikey but the Tilt has a MicroSD slot I am still debating whether to part it out or replace the screen and use it as a backup phone. I sure would miss it. Thanks to this community I have come to love my Dash!

Unfortunately, if that is the problem, I still can't get it to stop. I've tried turning the JOGGR back on (which I normally have off), and fiddling with the lowlight options, as well as experimenting with the tasks and processes in Celetask. No luck there, either. Still white.
I am afraid to replace the unit and have the same thing happen again if I go with WM 6.1
So far, I'm limited to sticking my SIM in a beater T722i a friend loaned me. It hurts, oh, it hurts!
Wrap Up
T-Mobile has decided that the sim died, and took my phone with it, so they replaced both no charge (except shipping). Who am I to argue with that?

Did you check to make sure that the connectors are all correct, try to reopen it and check it out... if ask for an exchange from the ebay seller. I believe that there is a policy and especially if you paid with paypal try going through there and say the item is defective.
I first flashed my Touch Diamond about a year ago and lost the sound. I had a new phone at the time so I just left but I am keen to get it going again for a friend to use.
I followed the steps here (currently forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211) and curently have radio "1.00.25.05" and the SPL is "SPL-1.34.Hard"
It doesn't seem to matter what ROM I flash the sound still doesn't come through the speaker although I've recently noticed that it does work when using the headphones.
I have tried soft and hard resets as well as clearing the internal storage. I've also tried MTTY without much success (total noob there so I could have been doing it wrong).
What else can I try to fix this issue as I've run out of ideas?
Update: HTC startup sound doesn't come through the headphones so it only seems to work once it's booted up.
As i can see I will give you the answer
I've experienced the same problem one year ago...I didn't flashed my phone but I had the same problem..NO SOUND..
So my friend the only thing you have to do is to:
1)just move all your Files to your PC(move them,do not copy them)!
2)hard reset your phone
3)put the files back again in your internal storage
AND YOU ARE READY!!!
I did all of these steps and I solved the problem...give it a try,you don't have to lose something..!
Please let me know if this method will solve the problem...
PEACE

Everything else seems to be working fine. Just the speaker sound isn't working.
Might i suggest you disassemble your diamond and clean the metalic plating both on your speaker and circuit board above.
Here i provide the pdf
I can guarantee this will solve ur problem if the case is just dust and dirt contanimation.
IMPORTANT. While you are cleaning, please DO NOT make any rough cleaning on the circuit boards and especially around the metalic plates
SO essentially what you need to clean is this part ONLY...

So basically you are just going to remove 3 screws and clean the top cover and platings. DONT MESS WITH ANYTHING ELSE.

The reason why it started to work as soon as the screws were in place is because, some screws in the device enable the contact between the circuit board and the device components.
This is done by manufacturers to minimize the use of wires and any other "additional" component needed to complete the circuit. Thus they make use of components in the device to their maximum possible to carry out an electric contact or function, be it a screw or anything else EXCEPT the ones you are in direct contact with, like a stylus...
**and nope this is not a class** hehehehe. i m jus sharing my knowledge.
because jus in case one removes a screw and loses it....you can say their devices are really SCREWED NOW!!!!
haha
So, I'm temporarily back. I got a Brand new Kin Twom from verizon wireless. To those that could not get a replacement KIN, I feel bad for you. But my friend had a kin twom and I asked him if I could have it just to mess with. So I took it apart because it wouldn't turn on and found this (Below) Now my KIN works wonderfully with no flaws. No I'm deciding whether or not to try and dev for this phone. So the pic is below tell me what you think.

HELP And GREAT
YES! you should continue hacking. And PS. How come my KIN won't downgrade anymore. Id enjoy using the loop etc. But when i press the hotkey buttons it just deletes the phone. Any way of having it work. And PPs. My verizon service is on the phone still.
being surprised?
It was on the list from the "dismount" procedure back in the day.
Interesting stuff would be reading raw data from it.
I'm not sure if I over looked it or not, but a windows phone with a SAMSUNG chip...interesting..is it possible that this could hold some data? Who knows
Samsung storage chip, where the 8gb user memory is stored.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft-Kin-Two-Teardown/2902/2
Samsung's moviNAND chip supplies the 8GB of storage space for the Kin.
The moviNAND package can transfer data at speeds up to 52 MB/s.

Move along citizens...
On the other hand, being a cool guy, someone can follow this stuff:
http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2556
to read it if the protocol there (homebrew) is correct.
of course, nothing is assured and .. probably leads to the user space storage (so the same as MTP writes) and not the windows os which would be flashed to *another?* chip on the board.
I would happily open my not working kin two to read this if i got the wire-operating skills and the material, but none is present.
Hmm, I'll try and figure this out. On the other hand did you re-post the links for KINO?
Mentioned chinese links (should be upped to common links in 1st post)
Movinand: http://www.docin.com/p-166979021.html
Movinand + windows CE: http://www.docin.com/p-278230298.html
Doesnt help, but it's good to be saved
Also, it should behave like a MMC (Multi Media Card) if plugged correctly, so everything *could* be dumped to a bin / raw format.
The only way to access this either plugin the required pins to this chip (which is hard, being soldered to the board), or using (somehow) the SBL hotkey and pray for a way to access it from there.
Neither of them looks easy or cheap.
Well, all good things take time
i just mean expensive boards to connect to it.
unfortunately for the dismounting guy. it's probably hard to give it volts without the specs, and everything should be coded by hand,
The best chance anyway, will be to boot into a not-common way, so APX or pink mode, so the board is powered.
Now the worst part is see where to plug without dismounting the chip (which probably cannot be done).
Trial and error my friend
Ok, since the "geniuses" who are condescending and move posts where my topic dies. Lets see if I can an straight answer here. My phone has basically eaten itself and I cant get it right. I have used wug and ive used the other gnex tool. And I still cant seem to root it after receiving a dumb ole refurb. So far I know, I have mismatching radios. This was supposed to be my first move in order to continue attaining root. But NOW my problem is that I cant seem to use Odin. Ive downloaded both the really new version, and went back to 1.85 since that was always my go to. But because my original compute ate its own hard drive, and was given a brand new one but with win8! I have NO idea if theres a difference, however, now that ive tried all these versions odin dl'ed just fine and i was able to open them up, but when I plug in my phone, it does nothing. Wont recognize my phone or anything. Tried all of the usb ports, tried 5 different cables (yes im weird, I collect cords) I have my adb drivers set up fine, all the bells and whistles. Im not a noob as ive been told but ive worked on phones on 3 different phone systems, since eclair. Im just trying to find out if anyone can help me here.
Thanks for any and all help. I do not prefer the easy way out and using those toys that say they can do anything. They're crap.

I FINALLY got it rooted. and I'll try to figure it out from here LOL! Ive been so settled with my Gnex that, I had the same ROM for about 1 1/2 yrs. Anyone know where I can get a decent dl of 4.3? being on sprint SUX. I cant believe they're going to make us wait like a pack of hungry wolves being teased with meat. Anyhow, I just wanted to send out a BIG thank you to the guys who helped me without calling me names ; ) Thanks again,

Hi everyone,
Sunday my phone screen completely shattered and now Im payed Sprint's third party $100 and a new one is on the way! YAY!
BUT!!
I want to save everything on my phone and continue to use my current ROM yada yada yada. Before I pulled the phone apart it appeared to be completely functional beside the screen (menu buttons were working and notification light flashing).
QUESTION: If I can pull apart my replacement, put my motherboard in, and get it all working, CAN I make a nandroid backup, save it to a flash drive, put back in the correct motherboard, and flash the nandroid on the replacement, WILL it work?
I understand that is a lot of propositional logic so I can draw it out if needed :good:
Thank you to anyone that can help!!
It is possible that it will work. When i did the same thing with my E4GT replacement, i got bootloops. The nandroid i restored was stock stock Paranoid Android. No OC or UC/UV, wiped cache and dalvik after restore. In my experience, its luck of the draw.
Yes, but you will have to use this method to be able to restore it most likely-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390010

I would also back up your personal data onto a pc, pics, videos game saves etc. Just in case there is a problem.
I just got a replacement and the damn capacitive buttons would activate if I held the phone a certain way or just randomly. I was so glad that I didn't flash it right when I got it, it took me a couple of days to find that out. So they sent a 2nd replacement, but I still only had 10 days to return my broken phone. I only like a day or two left at that point.
I would advise anyone getting a replacement to keep it mint condition and use it for a few days, make sure it activates, the gps works well and the capacitive buttons don't trigger themselves (probably a side effect of the just the glass being replaced on the phone).
