So, I'm temporarily back. I got a Brand new Kin Twom from verizon wireless. To those that could not get a replacement KIN, I feel bad for you. But my friend had a kin twom and I asked him if I could have it just to mess with. So I took it apart because it wouldn't turn on and found this (Below) Now my KIN works wonderfully with no flaws. No I'm deciding whether or not to try and dev for this phone. So the pic is below tell me what you think.

HELP And GREAT
YES! you should continue hacking. And PS. How come my KIN won't downgrade anymore. Id enjoy using the loop etc. But when i press the hotkey buttons it just deletes the phone. Any way of having it work. And PPs. My verizon service is on the phone still.
being surprised?
It was on the list from the "dismount" procedure back in the day.
Interesting stuff would be reading raw data from it.
I'm not sure if I over looked it or not, but a windows phone with a SAMSUNG chip...interesting..is it possible that this could hold some data? Who knows
Samsung storage chip, where the 8gb user memory is stored.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft-Kin-Two-Teardown/2902/2
Samsung's moviNAND chip supplies the 8GB of storage space for the Kin.
The moviNAND package can transfer data at speeds up to 52 MB/s.

On the other hand, being a cool guy, someone can follow this stuff:
http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2556
to read it if the protocol there (homebrew) is correct.
of course, nothing is assured and .. probably leads to the user space storage (so the same as MTP writes) and not the windows os which would be flashed to *another?* chip on the board.
I would happily open my not working kin two to read this if i got the wire-operating skills and the material, but none is present.
Hmm, I'll try and figure this out. On the other hand did you re-post the links for KINO?
Mentioned chinese links (should be upped to common links in 1st post)
Movinand: http://www.docin.com/p-166979021.html
Movinand + windows CE: http://www.docin.com/p-278230298.html
Doesnt help, but it's good to be saved
Also, it should behave like a MMC (Multi Media Card) if plugged correctly, so everything *could* be dumped to a bin / raw format.
The only way to access this either plugin the required pins to this chip (which is hard, being soldered to the board), or using (somehow) the SBL hotkey and pray for a way to access it from there.
Neither of them looks easy or cheap.
Well, all good things take time
i just mean expensive boards to connect to it.
unfortunately for the dismounting guy. it's probably hard to give it volts without the specs, and everything should be coded by hand,
The best chance anyway, will be to boot into a not-common way, so APX or pink mode, so the board is powered.
Now the worst part is see where to plug without dismounting the chip (which probably cannot be done).
Trial and error my friend

Bengal's Ultimate Universal Needs a "Helping Hack"!! RAM UpGrade is Not Recognized by Mobile 2005!!
With the delivery of my first Universal a few months ago I promptly sent it in to PocketPCTechs for a RAM upgrade for the "Ultimate Universal" conversion. At the time, I discussed with Lloyd at PocketPCTechs the problems with the upgrade and the fact that the unit does not recognize the new memory chips. We decided to hold back on the conversion announcement and see what happened with future ROM updates and see if that solved the problem.
Well, with only 1 ROM upgrade since that time, I am still not able to benefit from the extra RAM installed on my device and trust me..... the extra RAM is much needed for multitasking, especially when using WiFi and IE ..... RAM is depleted very quickly on a Mobile 2005 device.
The interesting thing is that the new Dell X50v using a similar feature set to the Universal has been successfully upgraded by PocketPCTechs to increase the RAM. This device recognizes the new memory chips and there are no problems.
So, I'm asking for the help of any "code warriors" out there who think they can isolate the differences in the ROMs on the Universal and Dell X50v and create a "Patch" or "hack" for the Universal which will enable it to recognize the increased memory....
I am sure I can arrange and PocketPCTechs would be happy to supply a inducement or reward for a successful patch or hack!!
hey thanks for coming bengal
Nice to see you bengalboy!
to quote the joker, "Where do you get all those wonderful toys?" and the girls??
I think BuzzLightyear might be the man to ask about this kind of hackery: as far as I know he has done the most work on Rom hacks (no insult intended to anyone else if you have!).
v
Lloyd & I agreed that this would be the place to solve it if anyone outside of MicroSoft and HTC could.... Basically the device was upgraded at its introduction but because there was nothing to base it agaist it was unknown if it was a Mobile 2005 issue or a Universal ROM specific problem? After PPCTechs upgraded the Dell with success it could be determined it was specific to the Universal ROM,,,,,, so here I am asking for help!
I installed the Universal ROM upgrade with no success..... and it operates flawlessly except for the OS's failure to recognize the extra RAM..
Hehe,,, if you get the toys..... the Girls will come over to play!

microsoft my phone should do it
Sorry to hear that man, as I feel you as I too had my HD2 stolen just last month. If you are in USA there is nothing you can do as no GSM carrier supports IMEI blocking, they can but they don't. In theory they can view the phone when its online as when when makes new connect with stolen phone with diff simcard it will be registred. But simply they don't care for it unless Big Brother steps in you know or used in emergency to locate someone.
Normally there are GPS service which can make the device send the owner its coordinates also giving remote capabilities like if nearby SMSing it will provide audiable alert or by backing the data and syncing online and locking it. For it to work one must have it installed before this takes place.
When I had my HD2 stolen I just finished flashing new rom and GF called so we went to the bar and didn't have time to install my software packages. I checked Craigslist/eBay couldn't find it. I was very ticked of as I paid 750 for HD2 + 200 or so on addon accessories. The most important thing was the data on the device contacts till this day I don't have they are gone unless they contact me as I only recovered parietal though recent audit call logs.
I know the feeling my whole world ended lol I became totally handicapped without my device, it makes you think hard how depended we become. I use it for everything and showed it off as I had very good reason as I extremely modified it beyond extreme with my own tweaks and things. I even left the prick SMS saying I would pay more than its worth if kid returns it, but he is not dumb he knew WTF would happen to him if he shows up.

Hi! It's my first post here!
I was wandering if it's possible to build a custom "lapdock" station.
Basically what do i need is:
- screen hdmi capable
- keyboard
- battery
- touchpad
- eventually speakers
Since a lapdock has only this stuff inside.
Here is a scheme i tought about:

The only thing i dunno is how to make the usb hub to give power to the atrix and to the other devices! I mean it's ok for the electricity, but i dunno if it's correct for data transfert.
About the software, i think that debian could handle all this (speakers via usb, keyboard etc etc.. )
Any suggestion?
sorry for my bad english lol
Are you thinking a stationary dock? Or a mobile dock? From your schematics I am assuming a stationary dock. Either way it would be a great hackaday project.
Actually i was thinking to a mobile one
The schematics works the same, the only thing I assume would change is the dimension of the single parts!
it wont be cheaper than 200 dollars
Sure, but you can add custom parts as a more capable battery, better screen, plug-off BT keyboard etc..
I have been thinking of doing the same type of thing, but my set-up would be stationary. One thing I did think of for myself would be to have a keyboard with integrated touchpad. In the OP's case, it would be one less piece to deal with and make it much more portable.

the more portable you want to make it, the more expensive it will be. and besides, this phone isnt known to run particularly fast on webtop..
lets say you spend 400 dollars... you can pretty much buy a low end laptop that will run way better. the cost to benefit ratio just doesnt seem worth it. not only that, but in the future when new devices come out you might have to scrap this contraption. we don't even know if future devices will have this functionality yet.
Hi,
I had some trouble with this phone. Long story short, I worked in US and my job take a open me a plan with at&t so I can use the phone back in canada with rogers.
Since the Gpro is only available in US, I thought it was a great idea to have a ''unique'' phone.
It worked fine for 2 weeks ( led notification stop working). UNDER light use.
Then after some time, the LCD ips backlight stop working. With a flashlight I was able so see the screen but it wasn't clever.
I asked LG several time, but the moment I told them the phone is in canada, they wont help me, even if I paid with us money on us territory.
Like if I live on the moon, it took 40 minutes to get to the border....
They finally admit that some of the first batch got problem with the screen, but still wont exchange it.
F*ck them, I tried to repair it myself.
#1 - Clean the contacts with 70% alcohol. No luck
#2 - Buy a new IPS LCD on ebay . No luck.
#3 - Clean the whole device with contact cleaner. No luck

#4- Then I do remember some HP laptop and Xbox 1st gen got soldering problem, so you put it in the oven and they work again.
So nothing to loose, I put the MOBO in the oven, convection bake, 375*´F for 10 minutes. Smell of plastic and the mobo bent (use aluminium support to avoid that)
YES! It worked. But since I use the contact cleaner, my screen was blurry.
So after 2 months of testing, I bought a second screen plus the home button assembly to get my LED notification back .
But the LED notification never come back
I found a app called buttonLED, so the back and menu button flash when I got a call/sms.
In conclusion, I had 2 LG , E980 and someone give the 3D (thrill), and both got problem, software AND hardware.
I'm on xda since I have the motorolla milestone (one of the first android device) and the Desire Z. Those 2 devices still working fine, the HTC desire Z 2010 to 2014!!! Still in good shape.
LG device are poorly craft from what I saw and what I can read on xda.
I repair a lot of devices, but nothing like this one. It was clearly a soldering problem.
For all of you who can have this kind of problem, use this method on LAST resort. It may not work for you, but did the trick for me.
I'm still not sure how it happened, but I somehow managed to crack my camera. Not just the lense like everyone else due to heat issues, but the actual camera.
So I figured I'd replace it myself instead of paying someone 100$+ to do it, and then have them charge me double for the part.
I made a pretty bad screw up the first time and broke the cable going to the power/volume buttons when initially opening the casing, and didnt realize until after I had replaced the camera.
I just got the new SD card reader/button cable in yesterday, and finished replacing it about 5 minutes ago. But the phone still will not boot.
I double checked all of the flex cables/signal cables to be 100% sure everything is plugged in properly, and not broken.
All of the flex cable protectors are back in place etc., but it just won't boot. the charge indicator won't even turn on when I plug it in.
I followed the video shown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RRJAHbnYmQ to take it apart initially, then followed it backwards to be 100% sure I wouldn't miss anything when putting it back together.
The only thought I have, is that Im having issues getting the case to snap back together completely.
That's when I noticed the pieces shown in the pictures below.

This is my first time actually working on a phone, but from what I assume, they look like some kind of spring based switches that will sever very important connections if the phone isn't completely put back together, with the case holding these raised parts down to complete a circuit.
I'm not sure if that's my problem, or if I somehow managed to screw up something a lot more important.
Can anyone at all shed some light on this?
Edit: Another thought just occurred, would I be able to use my UH-OH protection for this, even though technically speaking I'm the one that caused it to become completely non functional by opening it and attempting repairs on my own? Should I drop the thing in a bucket of water for a while first to claim UH-OH?
