vp3G's WM6 v2.0 -- [RTM & Hybrid builds] -- [Cingular/AT&T optimized] - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

This WM6 ROM for Hermes is brought to you in two variants:
v2.0 "RTM" (CE 5.2.1238 | Build 17745.0.2.3): Based on Schap's 3.30b WWE RTM build.
v2.0h "Hybrid" (CE 5.2.1238 | Build 17913.0.3.0): For those who feel the "RTM" is a step backward, v2.0h comes to the rescue -- a reprise of my renowned v1.0 making it's resurgence with the Hermes RTM CE (XIP grafting by yours truly), freshened apps, 4gb SDHC support, and the v2.0 "look and feel".
Which version should you flash? My recommendation would be to try the "RTM" first unless you're a heavy Bluetooth hands-free user, in which case I'd recommend heading straight for the "Hybrid". Why? Well, some folks feel as if M$ really loused up the BT stack in the RTM while others have not experienced any problems whatsoever. Personally, I'm still on the fence with regard to the RTM... the hands-free does seem to be a bit quirky in the RTM, but the A2DP support is a solid as ever. Repeated cycling of the BT radio also seems to be a bit unpredictable with the RTM.
Bottom line: You decide. For all intents and purposes the ROMs are functionally identical, it's just their internals that differ a bit.
NOTE: These ROMs are Cingular/AT&T optimized. If you're NOT a Cingular/AT&T subscriber, you can still install either variant and simply soft-reset as soon as the customization dialog appears to bypass all things Cingular/AT&T. Then manually perform the setup for your carrier.
Notable Features (apply to both variants, except where noted):
OS + splash screens
BIG Storage + 4mb Page Pool (~54mb free Storage, ~30mb free Program)
Re-tuned performance parameters (GLYPHCACHE=16384 + FATFS Cache=Auto)
ATI ImageON fix
Acquire Date/Time & TZ info from network
Schap's 11-button Comm Manager [2.0]
OEM 9-button Comm Manager [2.0h] (v2.0 11-button add-on cab available -- post #2)
Schap's Vista-like icon treatments, System Tools & Accessories program groups
A2DP tweaked for BT stereo listening pleasure (JointStereo & SampleRate)
Video calling disabled
WM6 sounds enabled
Annoying phone sounds disabled (in-call volume adjust, end button)
Customer Feedback, AutoUpdate & Catalog removed

Newer build of AM, yes. Far as the BT goes I can tell you it will assuredly work with your 590's. The A2DP quality will knock you flat on your ass, mark it down.

Yeah I kept hearing that over and over so I just had to go and find out for myself.... Just hope I dont ignore the traffic honking at me to get out of the way, lol....
Great work vp3G

What about the Bluetooth sync issues with the motorola HS850 that all its owners seem to be having with the RTM...fixed here?
Thanks!

@SkOrPn: You're gonna look mighty funny wearing those in your car.
@Stangs55: Dunno, but doubtful as I've done nothing special to the BT stack. Only one way to find out what works with it...

Thanks again for your hard work!!

Just downloaded and installed. So far it's spectacular! In the process of installing all my junk now and will report back later on.

Great Job, vp3G.
Just one question: Does this build support 4 GB microSD?

Guessing it will, but I don't own one so I can't tell you for sure. I'm just a poor ROM chef, afterall.

Thank you for this ROM. I'm using Radio v. 1.41.00.1, should I switch to 1.40.30.00 like you have for optimal performance?

Reporting...
First to say THANKS
First Report: I love the fre space and memory after HR... let see how memory leaks with normal usage.
But, i try to change Today items and theme, and dosn't change until Soft Reset. Have you test this? I see this issue with one of the LVSW latest ROM (or based on, don't remember so well).
Second Report: Well, tried many apps, like Adobe Flash and Acrobat, and so nice But Audio Manager Dosn't work well. I get the screen attached when i execute. If i press the screen many times, get the audio, but the interface fails sametimes. Seems like same resource for the app fail or is missing. BTW, i tested after a HR without any changes...
Regards.
You are the man! replied late, caught in second spot.
second...THANKS!
I moved over to your ROM from Black, and I've been very pleased with 2.0. I'm sure 2.5 will be as good or better.
Cheers.
THANKS...

Thx man... but remember if you whant to be cool now must migrate on another furum.. ; sigh, sigh sigh
Great work Custel.
Downloading now.
Can't wait to flash.
Only number 7! Got in prety fast. Gotta work on that.
Great Work CUSTEL
Just one question, were you able to figure out your office glitch before updating to 2.5?
I have tried following the 2.0 thread but I fell asleep and now I am at work. on my lunch break and wont be at another computer till midnight or so.
Thanks for all your hard work.

lol
I also migrated to C2.0 from B3.0 after having at least 2 3 freezes a day, although i have to admit they wore most likely form Spb shell..
Man Custel, I'm so scared now to update, 2.0 is just rock solid running Spb shell and GOODLINK with no glitches anywhere. Ok, i am downloading now
May I ask whether this rom supports BBConnect?
Bb Connect
custel,
Is it bb connect compatible?
I too would like to know if BBC works. It's vital to me. Thanks.
Someone MIRROR this please.
office 2k7 works.
has not been hex edited for bbc yet, will be ready by the weekend I am hoping...
Is there another mirror because I can't download from that site.. thanks.
Edit: I too can confirm that the audio manager doesn't work. The top bat says Load RC fail.. I can browse through the songs and play them, but the first screen in blank. I kinda have to guess.
The cingular version doesn't seem to let me connect to the internet.. I've tried the original settings you have on there which is WAP and then added ISP, since I have the PDA unlimited plan, but non let me connect.. Thanks
Newest OS/Build???
Undoubtably asked many many times before but I really searched xda, the wiki and the web without finding a clear answer:
What's the newer WM6: Custel's 2.5 (5.2.1413, build 17741.0.2.1) or JJ's 3.0 (5.2.1238, build 17743.0.2.3???)
I know it's not that simple - the kernel is part of the OS (is it?), the build can be different on different devices - but can there be an answer to which one is the newest???

[SUPERCEDED] vp3G's WM6 v1.0 (LVSW 05-19 variant) [CINGULAR-optimized]

Seeing as how there's a little extra room in the kitchen these days, I thought this might be a good time to try my hand at serving up something HOT.
This ROM is based on LVSW's rock-solid 05-19 3.30.2.1 release. Version edited or not, it really rocks!
NOTE: While this variant is Cingular optimized, all Cingular customizations (as noted by [CINGULAR] below) are handled by the autorun following a hard-reset. What does this mean? If you're NOT on Cingular, you can still install this ROM. Simply soft-reset as soon as the customization dialog appears in order to bypass all things Cingular!
What's In?
HTC Home Plugin (Battery, Screen Rotation, Backlight, Comm Manager shortcuts)
HTC X-Button 1.5 (Activate/Add Exclusive menu is back!)
Windows Live & Live Search
Office Mobile 2007 (includes OneNote fixes!)
Transcriber
Taskman/RegEdit 2.7 (kudos to dotfred)
Ringer Vibrate Toggle (Comm Manager "Press & Hold")
ATI ImageON Fix (*tips hat* to Sleuth255)
[CINGULAR] GPRS connections, MMS settings, URL mappings, Proxy Manager auto-installed
What's Out?
Remote Desktop (cab attached to this post if you need it)
Soft Key applet ("Calendar" soft key launches correct app)
HTC Ringtones
Other Features:
OS-only, NO IPL/SPL, Radio, ExtROM, Splash
BIG Storage (~55mb free Storage, ~31mb free Program memory @ idle)
4mb Page Pool, 8192 GLYPHCACHE (increase for even better performance!)
Comm Manager buttons re-ordered as shown
Today screen items enabled/re-ordered as shown
Acquires Date/Time & Time Zone info from network by default
A2DP bitpool optimized for BT stereo listening pleasure (initial 58 max 70)
HTCustom 1.4 replaces HTweakUI (thanks Shadowmite!)
NO Cyberon Voice Speed Dial or Voice Commander (cab for CVSD 1.2 attached to this post)
Comm Manager & Battery tray icons removed
Video calling disabled
Release Notes for v1.0:
Does NOT support BBConnect (I despise CrackBerry, so please don't ask if/when it will)
HTCustom may fail to unlock the ExtROM. Try Olipro's ExtROMPatcher if you really need to access it.
X-Button is still a bit flaky when exiting the option settings.... no big deal.
[CINGULAR] Default network is MEdia Net (w/ proxy), change to My ISP (no proxy) if you use isp.cingular.
Seeking even better Bluetooth A2DP fidelity, are you?
Try Bitpool = 86, MaxSupportedBitpool = 86, UseJointStereo = 1.
See hardcore's most excellent 'WM6 A2DP best settings' thread.
[*]"Clean" 3G icon was not cooked in since it screws with the pinpad colors and call history icons (install attached cab if you don't care)
[*]Cingular Video is supported (via awesome add-on cab created by CUSTEL). (Must enable proxy to view!)

I'm going to give this one a spin around the block Also Thanks for posting it here on XDA and not on the spam forums.
Strange that htcustom only mounts the ext rom because I know it unlocks on all the other ones based off of lsvw roms.

how'd you get the exclusion bugfix in X-Button if I might ask?
I'm going to give this one a shot, with some recipe modification. This ROM looks like a good LVSW variant to start cooking from - what I want to do is remove the camera stuff. I would greatly appreciate some guidance on that (reading the kitchen thread convinced me I can do this... but help for the first time out).
Thanks,

First, thanks for noticing my greatest accomplishment with this ROM.
I suspect most of the cabs floating about contain mismatched files. Try the mui file from my build on yours and see if that fixes it.

That could be a bit tricky... I'd probably remove the shortcut from programs, remap the hardware buttons (if needed), and call it done.

Interesting. The registry hacks alone have been hit/miss for me on every ROM, while Olipro's patcher has never failed me. PITA that it is, I wish we could just reclaim the ExtROM as additional storage space.

I hear ya because until HTCustom came out none of the tweak programs actually worked correctly for me.
Using HTCustom it all works I can install program to ext rom and everything.
great job vp3g! congratulations!
yep the mui solved it vp3G... I've created a cab and posted it on pg 1 of my thread.... It's still a bit quirky tho, if you actually use the exclusive tap feature, xbutton doesn't restore its icon properly on the today screen. You need to activate another application then return to the today screen to see it again. Somewhere I'm betting there's a newer dll to go with the resource file.
Yeah, I noticed that quirky behavior as well. Might still be a slightly mismatched set of files. I tracked down where it worked last (LVSW's 3.30.0.9) and pulled it as a unit from there. Seems like anything else out there has been through the XDA blender (set on frappé).

Sleuth,
Thanks for creating the cab. I was going to ask VP3G about creating cab this way we don't have the mismatch files.
@VP3G,
If you do not experience the issues Sleuth describe above, would you mind creating a cab?

Every version I've encountered thus far has the same quirky issues, but they're not major, IMO. Sleuth's patch will restore the Exclusive menu if you're running ROM that lacks the appropriate resource file.
Nice rom vp3g! I'll certainly have to give it a try being a cingular guy...
Thanks! Appreciate your efforts on HTCustom. It makes for a nice little app to include for those who'd rather not dig around in the registry.

@MG! A New Elf Rom! [email protected]! Now with CRACKBERRY ADDICT SUPPORT! Elf 2.1! "The New Black"
Welcome to Elf v2.1!
Elf Is "The New Black"
Below you will also find the CRACKBERRY version of this rom. Please, seek professional help if you are addicted to CrackBerry, but, as a public service, I have included it. TIPS ARE HIGHLY WELCOME!
The damn CrackBerry hack took an INSANE amount of time.. The actual hex edit is easy; it's figuring out what to edit! argh.. Seriously nuts. BIG thanks to Shadowmite for his help in figuring this out. Also, a thanks to JJ for his complete lack of moral support as I tested it
Highlights:
Cooked into the rom:
1) BIG STORAGE! (48.8MB available after all ExtRom programs installed)
2) Shadowmite's TweakUI 1.4
3) dotFred's PimBackup
4) TaskMgr
5) ATI Patch
6) Office 2007
7) OneNote patch
Cooked into the ExtRom:
1) Windows Live Search (My personal killer-app)
2) Windows Live Messenger (the NEWEST Live Available!)
3) Device Lock
4) WM Transcriber
5) SIP Config Tool - VoIP configuration
All extrom customizations are REMOVABLE via. the Remove Programs App in Settings.

Download **FIXED** CRACKBERRY rom here (Rapidshare)
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it..
Notes:
- X-Button has serious issues. I am not including it in this release. I recommend SBSH.net iLauncher as a proper replacement. It is inexpensive, and just amazingly awesome. It's the task manager of choice for most people who really know what they're doing.
- I need an icon for SIP Config Tool; I'm a god-awful artist. So, if anyone wants to contribute back an icon, please do and I'll release an updated cab for it.
- Splashscreens are professional; I do have some other more fun ones that ToddJG did; I'll post them later for seperate download.
- In my tests, with the standard battery, and full time push-email, I was getting an insane battery life with this ROM! Longer than I had seen before. So, I'd be interested to hear other's opinions on this issue...
- General idea of what got cooked vs. added via. Extrom. Basically, I wanted a core OS that allowed one to operate the device but leave most of the other stuff in ExtRom to be installed on HR customization. So, things like TaskMgr and PIMBackup (both VERY small programs, but, also HIGHLY useful) are cooked. Live, Live Search and other stuff that I like, but you might not, are in ExtRom and marked as 'removeable'. You will be able to reclaim the space lost on the Live installation, etc..

Excellent, I will try later this week; I've just gotten Sleuth LSVW rom up and running.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the good work, Elf. Just had the original Elf edition setup 2 days ago and has not had a soft reset.
Trying this 2.1 out tonight.
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks Elf for the great ROM. I finally took the plunge to flash the ROM fo the first time. So far everything has been working fine except for the WebCamera Plus. Apparently after flash the ROM, it somehow returns a new device ID to the software hence the activation of the software fails.
So the problem would be similar to those from TOM TOM users.
I suppose I have to call Ateksoft to issue me with another activation code.
Apart from that it is a great ROM.
Thanks
I wish I knew why it does that silliness. Although, this whole activating based on some strange device ID is just silly too.. Pirates just bypass it. Legitimate people who buy the software are screwed out of the program...
There have been HUNDREDS of downloads of both roms, and only a VERY SMALL handful of posts.. I guess this ROM is the secret Diamond around here
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks for the reply, Elf.
BTW, donation on his way.
Great ROM elf, awesome in fact.
I just have a small problem with the refresh though. When I change the settings on the today screen like take away a button for instance, it does not refresh it until I do a soft reset. weird.
WoW!
With all the different roms ive tried this is the best so far!
well done, cant wait to see more!
We're like the diamond in the rough... The new black... You know, once you go with an Elf, you nevah go backlf (well, something like that).
CUS' i'm TELling you that I'm way better than some of these other ROMS
I'm just joking of course. I have great respect for all the cooks on here.. JJ is a great guy if you ever get to know him, Custel is, well, uh, uhm, anyways... Sleuth is a nice guy (smart too), and LVSW, well, he's just plain cool--I only wish he spoke English better because he rocks and I'd LOVE to pick his brain on a few things..
Anyways, I'm missing tons of cooks, so, don't take offense.. PLEASE! I'm just trying to be funny.. But seriously... In the words of that annoying idiot on TV that hocks his "Video Professor" software--"Try my product!" lol
I just put this on my TyTN today. I'll be testing it for the next week or so. So far, everything seems ok. It's definitely less snappy than Black 3.0, which is what I had on before for about 3 weeks -- 3 weeks without a single reboot. I'm hoping this ROM can show the same kind of stability.
Black wouldn't recognize my microSD after removing it - I had to soft-reset to recognize a re-inserted card. That is fixed in this ROM.
One minor bug so far - when setting an alarm with the built-in alarm function, AM/PM reads "P 1" and "A 1", rather than AM/PM. Not a big deal.

Go to HTCustom, change the TIME to Normal, NOT AM/PM.. It is a WM6 bug.
About memory... compared to the others your ROM is relatively low on Program memory (in my case about 24-25 Mb after install).
But you tell in your ROM we can remove the extra programs we don't need. Will this also increase the program memory (as I understand in WM6 memory allocation between storage en program memory is dynamically)?

just tried it, actually still trying it for a couple of hours. first glance, seems faster than anything before. but as with all black roms, most probably it is not that stabil. for me, dutty's rom was most stabil so far, and farias rom was the one i liked the most. and ive tried most of them, if not all of them.
no going to schaps, heard nice things about his rom.
later,
io
wow, just got used to black shadow. here it goes again, getting ready to the majik over weekend.
looks very nice
I use Custel and I don't think I'll switch but I wanted to say I liked the specs and look of your rom its very nice.
Its based on the 17913.0.3.0 imgfs graft which is a highly reliable collaboration from many chefs. m$ may not beat this from a reliability/performance aspect until they release AKU 1.0

damn right! also this ROM has the newest OEM packages (from roms already leaked) packaged in a modular fashion (ie, OEMapps is split into seperate packages), so you can decompile, remove and recompile to your own liking.
the only reason this work was done in regards to the black project is due to the somewhat broken BT stack and intermitted power consumption issues in the RTM 17745 build. Lets see how this black holds up.

Let me ask my questions again:
I currently run Black...
What version number is this ROM?
Since I am waiting for TouchFlow, should I skip this rom and wait for your next release?
Again, Thanks for all your hard work though - I am sure that it's very much appreciated

the version is MAJIK.
thanks,
i have to eat my words - i've installed majik under strong temptation.
so far my comment - this is fast, more swift compared to black shadow.
well done jj!!
Blackberry donsn't works :'(
Go on guys, make my day, continue amusing me wasting bandwidth. And don't be so amazed when even a cool Ausie looses his manners.
The big question remains open. Would I finally find my way out from the frequent SODs.. None ROM has yet made it for some (me included) and I tried personally all hacks, tricks, wisdom, you name it.
JJ no matter what, thumbs up !

When calling someone and when I get connected the phone vibrate....like it with Redial 1.02 app...how can I disable this JJ?
Regards,
Primoz
p.s. Thanks for the release...already installed and trying it out
SDHC support is listed under the "changelog" but Black Shadow supports SDHC cards (I am using a 4gb microSDHC with it right now).
that being said, I will probably upgrade to Majik tonight after work
Hi, just installed this ROM and now playing around...
I started Media Player and played a 5 minute song. At that point my program memory dropped from 29 Mb to 10 Mb, THAT'S 19 Mb!!!
Is this normal? (could be, never noticed it with other ROMs)
Seems quick so far and I like the boot screen and the audio manager plugin, very nice. Oh, also the touchflo or as some like to call buttonflo works after simply running alpha and sr .

This version isn't patched for BBConnect. Keep watching tho.... somebody might patch one. I know how you Crackberry addicts are...
I've deleted several off-topic posts here btw. See page one for why. Let's keep this thread on topic plz.
Can someone please post Vijay555 Tools I downloaded the add-on pack but it did not include Vijay555 Tools.
Can someone also post that black theme with the 2 blue lines that were in Black 3.0 I think.
Thanks!
dangit! im just resisting the urge.. it has come to the point that im trying to deliberately make my current ROM (BS4) crash on me and force me to HR. then i can update. but just to think of the re-installing again.... anyways, i think itll be worth the time..
will be off to canada this weekend.. will make sure i bring the laptop and my 8525 disk! ;P

Don't forget to check out post #2 for PTT options.......
PTT options.....
+
+
Install Attachment #1 if you want to enable PTT. Smart Dialing integration has been fixed in v2!! (if you already installed the original, please remove it and and install v2 to update).
Note: Beware that since PTT is heavily wired into the dialer, etc., installation of alternate dialers in conjunction with PTT_Enable may elicit unpredictable behavior and is not recommended. Do so at your own risk!
+
+
Install Attachment #2 if you want to reassign the PTT button to other functions.
Note: Won't restore the nifty stock Smart Dialing "skin" as this requires other PTT-only components.
See post #496 for an alternate VIDEO dialer installation procedure that enables "pretty" Smart Dialing and plays nice with PTT button reassignment (some caveats still apply). Thanks goestoeleven for this find!
+
+
Must reset after installation. Do NOT install both cabs at the same time.

Yes, just skip customizations as with the prior releases. Non-AT&T users may want to ditch the splash screens, too.

Hi,
By the looks of the dialer it seems that there isn't video calls option, is this correct?

Blackberry Connect 4 compatible?
Any chance of a hex-edited version for those of us who are still tethered by our employers via blackberry service?
