As soon as the battery meter shows 74% the device shuts down and will only restart if powered via the USB port. Once the battery is re-charged to 100% the device works fine again until 74%. I assume somewhere there is a setting for the battery threshold voltage.
(Same with a new battery)
Can anyone help?

Preferbly original battery. (my comments)

Yesterday I used my JJ in the way I use my Treo 650, as a mixed PDA and cell/mobile phone. Now my Treo battery gives me 2/3 days of use (it is on 24 hrs a day) while my JJ after about 15 hours was down to 25% battery capacity (and I did not use WiFi but used BT for 10 hours, about 2 hours of ebook reading and the usual PIM/sync activities and about 20 minutes of calls). With this sort of battery usage I really need a spare battery (I do have a portable USB based batery charger that I could use as a fallback).
Where can I get a spare battery from? Expansys claim they will have some around 2nd week in December!
Thanks
To Jah,

Any realistic idea when? I can hold off for a short while...
p.s. awful web page, seriously - Contents of http://www.unifirm.com/pda.htm means nothing to a normal user.
Use the device names and capacities - "XDA Exec, 1750MAh" sounds a lot better than "HLI-X3SL"...
EDIT: And I can't even click on the things? Useless.

Please make it a higher capacity one, double or triple the current capacity would be nice.
A charger to come with it is also appreciated. I'll grab it as soon as it comes out.

A battery charger is definitly a must have, The xda takes too long to charge because of it's mini usb connector, even when connected to an AC socket. I wouldn't bother buying a spare battery cos with the current charging options It will just take too long to charge the batteries up.
Besides, one can only charge a battery at a time since there isn't a dock with a spare battery charger or a standalone battery charger for the htc universal.
A fast charger for the battery alone would be excellent.
Got mugen batteries for all the pocket pcs I've ever owned and they rock.
Hope to get some feedback from mugen on developing a fast charger, I recon alot of htc universal users will be very interested
In this case HP teach!!!!
Before JJ I had a HP6515. I've bought spare high capacity battery and I've received it with it's separate charger who connects to the main cradke with a bypass. FANTASTIC!!!

Any one know where can i get a High Miliamp ( ex 2500Ma) like battery for my Xda Atom Exec. ? I found one for my previous Imate Jamin worked fine.
hi, i think i found 1 in ebay, 3500mah
might cause problems due to excessive heat
i've read from one of the post that extended battery create much heat and leaves our dear love atoms into unstable state, possible permanent damage. let us know how it turns out...?
it's definitely good bye, to my metal casing/protector, if this extended battery is any good...

sorry double posted somehow.
I use MUGEN type and that has been very good. No over heating and lasts whole day when using GPS software when the normal battery would be dead in 2-3 hours. here is one site that sells on the web.

I bought one just a month ago and so far cero problems, no heating, no leaking, only longer power...My previous battery (the original) could only mantain energy for 1 day without using the pda, but if I turned on wifi it only lasted 1 hour.
So I use to mantain my atom exec connected at my car and at my work, now since I bought this new battery 3500ma, I havent connected it to my car, and havent dropped charge below 50% in a month! because every day I connect it to my PC at work but after using the device for the weekend in a normal fashion I only reconnect it on Monday.
Only drawback is the battery is bigger double sized so it came with a different back cover.
I have paid 25 dollars at ebay and I am happy with it.
Used and I can recommed....
Hi all,,
I'm using a rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery from the company Cameron Sino Technology... It has a capacity of 3500mAh and 3,7 V...
I just bought it 3 weeks before and charges only 3 times in very low usage. (a few phone calls, a few e-mail). And app. 7 days I can use it.
But it think, I can use it with my normal usage 3 or 4 days, not more...
I'm very happy

Wow, 3500 mAh? Imagine will it's works on my O2 XDA Atom Black than just 1530 mAh!
How much you paid for that 3500mAh battery ?
I'm interesting too it could be so nice...
I have done some efforts regarding battery capacity measurement

Hi guys, I i'm Uni user who own two batteries, both standard 1620 Dynapack batteries. One of them came with the device as I bought it used. One of them I bought I on ebay, both of show different kind of problems, first on dies when 38% battery left and second one shows bizarre power meter and dies with unknown indication of power left.
For both of these batteries, I charge them with a wall charger which originally for my HTC Hermes aka Cigular 8525. The output I read was 5V and I just found on the Uni batteries it says charging voltage limited under 4.2V
So I'm wondering could the wall charger being the reason for damaging my batteries as it charged them over a higher voltage so they act funny? If so where could I buy a Wall charger for HTC Uni?
Thanks guys~
Hi,
The first battery shows the normal signs of an old Uni battery. The same happend to most people here.
The seocnd battery is a cheap copy, which does not implement the same functionality as the original one.
The charger will show a slightly higher voltage, when measured directly with a multimeter, because it is not providing any current. Normally the voltage will drop as soon as an appliance is connected to it.
So far, everything seems normal.
To get an idea: I bought two Universal standard batteries at eBay, with one month delay (I have two Universals). The first one is much better than the second one, because it will retain power on standby much longer and seems to have a bigger capacity.
Still, the second one features a more impressive label...
I bought them from different sellers: I had to buy a battery for a friend and thought I better use the free shipping. Now I know I should have bought the second battery from the first seller - never change a winning horse!
Cheers,
vma
Also as Universal is an old device I´m not sure that bateries still being made to this date, so perhaps a "new" battery is not really new, as perhaps it is on storage from seller since long time. Just consider that
Dukenukem sold me the original Universal battery and he´s reliable seller
first of all im sorry if this issue seems to be redundant to all....
im a bit confused to some of the post on this forum regarding this issue...
(so please bear with me...especially to the mods out there)
i do have this battery and it seems that it wont even last for atleast a day...
is this normal for this brand of battery or 4800mAh battery?
how long is the normal standby time for 4800mAh battery?
i also have an original 1620mAh battery and it even last longer than my 4800mAh battery..
can anyone here help me on what to do?
is there anyone in here can prove that 3200 or 1620 is much much better than 4800?
and one more question...i also have a 2 spare 1620mAh battery....
one of it turns off at 75% the other at 21%....
i've tried resetting them both but no of luck..still the same..
is there any other possible way for me to use them and drain them up to 0% or atleast 10%?
thanks in advance!
3200 will last twice as long as 1620; 4800 three times.
However, this is given they are all the same manufacturer. Some batteries are better than others. Cheap eBay batteries are known to give problems - however I have had good as well as bad one's from eBay.
Also, batteries will wear out after a while - I think suggested time is a year or two.
I have four 1620's which last from 50 minutes to 3 hours (constant useage with backlight on). My 3200 lasts 6 hours.
I find that whichever (fully charged) battery is in Uni when I upgrade ROM, will give accurate reading. The reading becomes inaccuate (turning off a x%) when I swap for different battery.
ROM Upgrade & battery
so your saying that when i upgrade or change rom..
1. the battery should be at 100% charge..?
2. and the battery that i used when upgrading should be the one to be used until it drains to 0%? coz when i replace the battery thats the time it will shut off at X%?
is my understanding correct?
if i may ask...what brand of battery would you recommend for a 4800mAh?
and would you recommend 4800mAh?
ive seen DUKE NUKEM's post..he's selling batteries right?im planning to buy 2 pcs of 4800mAh....but the problem is i dont have a PAYPAL account and im a bit confused coz some say 3200 is much better than 4800..and some say 1620 is the best...
thanks for your help sir jonny....
Yes, you are correct.
I don't have a 4800, so can't comment.
Anyone else got a recommendation?
The main reason that people prefer one battery over another is due to the size. Most people seem to like the 1600 because the Universal is fat enough without having a huge battery sticking out the back! Other people may be biased toward a certain capacity because they bought a duff battery.
Personally I'll use a 1600 and carry a spare sometimes... unless I know I'm going to need juice (for a plane trip etc) and I'll stick in my 3200.
what to do on batteries shutting off at x%?
sir jonny do you know a way on how to correct those batteries that shuts off at x%?
coz what im doing is
1.charge the battery to full
2.put an adhesive tape to cover the second connector of the battery
3.then drain the battery using my UNI or using 3 LEDs...
4.charge the battery again to full
the problem is that it still shuts off at x%...
some claims that this corrects the problem..
am i doing the right way or is there any possible way?
ive seen some threads regarding this issue but in my case it dont work..
ive got 3 pcs of 1620mAh with this problem..
thanks again for your help...
Did you charge it with your original charger? If not, you can't get 4800 mah.

im always using the original charger....but if your talking about the initial charging prior to shipping of the battery...i cant answer that because i bought that battery from a friend...and it is a second hand battery..but he told me that he just used the battery once and havent asked about what charger he used.

I would suggest stay away from the Sino Cameron batts. They simply suck. I have one 1650 and another 4800. Both not very up to stretch, especially the 4800. By all means it does NOT last three times as the standard batt. I'd say perhaps just about two times in reality. Perhaps not. I just keep seeing the batt level dropping fast. Plus the build quality is a real issue. Somehow the 4800 gets too fat and the batt cover cannot completely fit in the slot. Three times the size but just a little power boost. It's cheap, but now I regret having wasting money on them...
Then I switched to Momax. It's just a standard 1500. But it shines! Battery drains pretty slowly and stably (no sudden dropping). It's a bit more expensive than those crappy Camerons, yet it's worth the extra dollars.
Yes, right
It´s always better to go for the original one

If you want a good battery for your Universal, I will suggest you to buy a 3200 mAh battery from ebay, it's the best
Which brand of 3200 batt do you recommend?
I have 2 similar 3200mah batteries but to speak frankly, I used them mainly at home and when I go out I take 2 1620mah batteries with me. The 3200mah is simply too huge & heavy - since the Uni is a big phone, people may find it funny if they see the overal size especially when you are putting it near your cheek when receiving/making calls! You can check this link - the seller also sells cheap 1620mah:

well, lately you can buy a 10,000 mah battery pack that has 2 usb ports (one at 1a and the other at 2a) for under 50 bucks.
For the most part, not alot of people spend too much time removing and replacing batteries during the day and if they do, i've seen people with docks that charge up both the battery and phone at the same time.
