Problem #1
Tapping the Start Menu does not product any clicking sound (unlike WM5 and WM 2003SE). While the Start Menu is displayed, clicking any item in it also does not product any clicking sound. Is this the correct behaviour? Anyway, I found the MenuPop.wav in Windoes folder.
Problem #2
The Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3, Alarm4, Alarm5 comes in different format where Alarm1, Alarm3 and Alarm4 are in WMA while Alarm2 and Alarm5 are in WAV. Weird huh?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replied.

Problem #1 -- Correct. To change that, go to Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications and Enable Sounds for Screen Taps.
Problem #2 -- On the X-plore 1.1 WM6 ROM, Alarm 1, Alarm 3, and Alarm 4 are in WMA format and Alarm 2 and Alarm 5 are in WAV format.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought I'm getting an incomplete ROM upgrade from O2.
Anyway, for problem #1, seems like WM6 is kinda incomplete, doesn't it? For problem #2, yours are correct, I mistyped mine.
Thanks.

Where are the sounds (for rintones, alarms, etc.) stored on a WM6 device?
I want to change the alarm sound on my phone and I don't like the built-in list of alarm sounds and want to add my own.
So, two questions:
1. where are the alarm sounds stored?
and
2. what format can you use for alarm sounds?
BTW I want to change my alarm to sound like a standard telephone ring so that I can set it to go off in the middle of meetings to pretend that someone is calling me to let me escape these ****ing wastes of time. It never fails.
In windows folder you will find another folder its name is Rings you can add your fav. files by copy and paste method then if u would like to change tones, you can do that by settings-> Personal -> Phone
oh I forgot!!!!
.wmv .mp3 .... are usually used format
I think for the alarm sounds, you're restricted to just wav (maybe wma but i've not confirmed that) but they have to be in the windows folder, not the rings as stated above.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
you are right Lordsmiff!!!
I am so sorry
I do not know why I chose tones option for alarm

To add further, alarm and notification tones are restricted to WAV format.
Put then in \windows\ folder.

Thanks for clarifying this.
Does anyone have any good WAV "alarms" that sound like telephone calls (ringtones)?
Cheers.

Does anyone know the location of or the name, of the sound files for 'sms sent' and 'delete confirmation', please?
There is no option to change these in Settings>Sounds & Notifications. The files don't appear to be located in the Windows folder either...
Anyone please help?
I'm just getting to grips with my new WM6 device
add
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled
binary
value set to 1.
restart, and it works!!!
this key disabled the sms threading, without disabling the sound and other notifications (as far as i know).
Edit: in the middle of the key, it should be "settings", somehow the forum forbids post this "Settings" key.
Thank you.
there is even no such key in vanilla 4.01
but i've made it - and it works.
thanks!
works, thx.
but u can also use: DWORD Value!

I'd like that too, anyone come up with a solution please let me know.
Just use schaps advanced configuration tool!
Other Option
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings (The Space in "Settin gs" is somehow accidently added by the forum, don't make that )
and there should be a
DWORD named "SMSNoSentMsg" set to 1
change it to 0 and you should get your notfication. If this Key and DWORD does not exist, create it with the value 0. Should work then

It works for me ... but only UNTIL restart, then added key disappears and sms threading is back on :-( Any idea where could be the problem ?
EDIT: using ROM meschles Touch 4.01 Full NC

Hi,
I had the same issue. Are you sure you are using "Settings" key and not "Setting s". I was using "Setting s" key and this was causing a problem for me.
Also if you are using the right key, make sure as soon as you change your registry, you open text messages. I did this and the change is instantaneous, not requiring restart.
Hope this helps.
THANKS A LOT! Works fine for me. ROM: Artemis Vanilla 4.01 WWE.
No problems with rebooting mentioned somewhere here - everything stays.
P.s.: somebody make this topic sticky perhaps?

I have made that registry change this way:
- using Total Commander as registry editor
- HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting already exists
- created OEM folder using Mkdir
- created key SMSInboxThreadingDisabled = 1 using +add value+
- then going to messaging --> text messages - everything OK, no threads
- soft reset
- added key has disappeared (folder OEM and added key are gone)
- sms threading is back switched on :-(
What am i doing wrong ?

It works fine with me.
I use Vanilla 4.01 and PHM editor. not sure if you have saved the change under Total Commander, or maybe you have some kind of software that prevents changing Registry keys.
martin.eu, please wait about 5-10 minutes after registry change and do reset after that time. Windows requires some time to write registry to the ram from the cache.
It seems that there is some problem with regedit plugin in total commander. Change made with PHM regedit and everything works fine ...
thx,
m.
Thank god for this thread, I can't imagine what insanity at Microsoft led to the implementation of the threaded, no notification SMS system - It's horrible !

Is there a way to customize startup sounds or error sounds? I would like to change the sound of those, but can't seem to figure out how. Anyone help with that??
- Just copy any wma, mp3 or wav format file(s) into /windows/ directory.
- Select Settings/Sound/Advanced/Notifications
- Pick the Event you want and select the Ring tone from the drop-down menu
Enjoy~
Thats for the regular sounds....I am looking for a way to customize the STARTUP sound like when you turn the phone on and off and the error sounds. I appreciate the help but I am aware of how to change the regular sounds....just not sure if there is a way to change the start and error.

Jeez, i dont understand why they make it so complicated! Even WM 5.0 Smartphone edition was more fluent. I didnt have to move sound files all over the dam place just for specific events. Why in the hell cant it just let you Point to a file instead of stupidly being locked into one directly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is their a way to somehow change What directory its pointing to at least?
Guess i could just delete all the default sounds and put my own in their (if it will let me delete them)
Any Ideas? is their a way to have the sounds point to a custom location?
Again.. Can you change the pointed directory for event sounds out of the windows directory?
I've been lookin for the answer to this since my sprint mogul
I could be wrong but it sounds like you may need to look at flashing a custom splash screen. You can attach custom sounds to the splash screen to be whatever you want. I'm not to sure about the error sounds. I would assume you can associate an event to a sound file and call it a day.

Just tested this. It can change the general ring tone, but not for each person, and im not sure if i just dont know how to use it, but its realyl diffacult to goto other directory's to find new sounds.
my default alarm app from wm6.5 is just playing the sounds once and doesnt repeat it. can anyone help??
download an app called klaxon. winmo's alarm is garbage and it's been well known for years. they are obviously never going to fix it.
Not sure if I should start a new thread given the age of this one but I was experiencing this problem. I found an answer from 2003 on another site which I adapted to newer WinMo versions. The following registry tweak works for me to create a looping/repeating alarm.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>ControlPanel>Sounds>Clock
Right click: New>String Value
Enter Value Name: Script
Enter Value Data (for no vibrate): apr
or
Value Data (with vibrate): av0pr
If you want to add a delay between each ring add 'w(delay)' before the r(repeat), for example: av0pw3r would have a vibrating alarm with a 3 second wait before looping the ringtone
Delete the 'Script' value to revert back to the normal alarm ring.
I installed Easy Launcher which puts short cuts on your today screen. I want to install a shortcut for the Settings-> Personal ->Phone. One day I will buy some software (maybe someone knows of some for free), but everyday at work I set my phone to no ring, and at the end of the day I want to set it back to ring. A short cut on my today screen would help.
Thanks

Why not just use the hardware volume button. Press it up or down, the HTC volume screen appears, select SILENT, and you are done! Or you could set it to vibrate.
I listen to music all day on head phones. I need the volumne up for the music but do not want the phone ring in my cubicle environment. Especially if I get up, leave my desk, and my phone has been ringing nobody appreciates it.

Well, you could disable the HTC Notifications manager. Then you would have the old-style dialogs for your data connection and volume. I mention it because the stock WM dialogs have separate volume controls for Phone and Device.
It is a registry tweak where you change the name of the dll file to something different. When you reset the notifications should be stock instead of HTC.
do you know what the registry change would be to remove the htc notifications?

local machine / services / notificationmanager / Dll.
Change it from NotificationManager.dll to NotificationManager2.dll and reset the device. If it works, when you click on the speaker icon in the task bar, you should get a dialog for just the volume.
I haven't tried this with my particular version of WM 6.5.x, but it worked on the stock WM 6.5.
could be done by simple script.
I have a script which automatically change backlight settings every morning and evening.
it's very similar thing, you only need to change values for registry entries in it.
Suppose on rhodium volume could be change directly through registry.
or you may find it on xda or I'll send it if you want.
these are those entries:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"Ringer"=dword:99999999
from 00000000 to FFFFFFFF = level
and for vibrate:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0]
"Sound"="*none*"
OR
"Sound"="*vibrate*"
this just came:

Brenda, did you ever get this working (a shortcut to a specific place in settings)? If not I've come across another way to accomplish it that's pretty simple, let me know and I can create the link for you to put on your startmenu or wherever
create an ANSI file backlightTimes.lnk with this text inside:
1#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,3,1
==
1# - num of chars -ignored by new wm
ctlpnl - calling cpl files
cplmain - main cp applet
3 - internal code - ID of applet window
1 - open on 2nd TAB
problem is some contrl panel windows are ignoring last parameter (TAB) and this one is, so you need to click again, then make your settings and click to confirm. Still not too easy
