Where are the sounds (for rintones, alarms, etc.) stored on a WM6 device?
I want to change the alarm sound on my phone and I don't like the built-in list of alarm sounds and want to add my own.
So, two questions:
1. where are the alarm sounds stored?
and
2. what format can you use for alarm sounds?
BTW I want to change my alarm to sound like a standard telephone ring so that I can set it to go off in the middle of meetings to pretend that someone is calling me to let me escape these ****ing wastes of time. It never fails.
In windows folder you will find another folder its name is Rings you can add your fav. files by copy and paste method then if u would like to change tones, you can do that by settings-> Personal -> Phone
oh I forgot!!!!
.wmv .mp3 .... are usually used format
I think for the alarm sounds, you're restricted to just wav (maybe wma but i've not confirmed that) but they have to be in the windows folder, not the rings as stated above.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
you are right Lordsmiff!!!
I am so sorry
I do not know why I chose tones option for alarm

To add further, alarm and notification tones are restricted to WAV format.
Put then in \windows\ folder.

Thanks for clarifying this.
Does anyone have any good WAV "alarms" that sound like telephone calls (ringtones)?
Cheers.
Bobby
Does anyone know the location of or the name, of the sound files for 'sms sent' and 'delete confirmation', please?
There is no option to change these in Settings>Sounds & Notifications. The files don't appear to be located in the Windows folder either...
Anyone please help?
I'm just getting to grips with my new WM6 device

I want to add more sounds to the notification set. I know i can add ringtones to the Windows/Rings folder for the phone butwhere do I add sounds for things like a new SMS?
as has been said many times, search search and search again. This is definitely alrady in the forums a dozen times
.wav and \windows folder. Im saying no more.
WAV files required
Put suitable WAV files into the windows folder and that did the trick. They are all available now as notification sounds
Thanks
Hello,
I am trying to add alarm clock sounds to the default alarm clock but they do not show on the list. I do not want to add a third party software. I found a regedit to change HKCU, control panel, sounds, clock entry from alarm to ring but no change even after reset.
Any ideas ???
Thks,
On my HTC Artemis (O2 XDA) and WM6 I was only able to get .wav files (PCM Uncompressed) to work for alarms, and then they must be less than approx 2.33mb (as reported by XP or ~2,450,000 bytes). They must be stored in the windows directory.
There are .wma files also in the windows directory but none of them appear in the clock & alarms drop down list. So I assumed .wma's can't be used for the alarms.
The .wav files must be 8bit or 16bit and either 8kHz, 11.025kHz, 16kHz or 22.05kHz (32kHz does not seem to work).
It's a bit annoying as I had a good .mid file as an alarm on my old Sony Ericsson and they are tiny (28.3kb). Converting it to .wav made it 2.5mb!!! So I had to trim it down to 2.33mb before it would work.
Is there a way to customize startup sounds or error sounds? I would like to change the sound of those, but can't seem to figure out how. Anyone help with that??
- Just copy any wma, mp3 or wav format file(s) into /windows/ directory.
- Select Settings/Sound/Advanced/Notifications
- Pick the Event you want and select the Ring tone from the drop-down menu
Enjoy~
Thats for the regular sounds....I am looking for a way to customize the STARTUP sound like when you turn the phone on and off and the error sounds. I appreciate the help but I am aware of how to change the regular sounds....just not sure if there is a way to change the start and error.

Jeez, i dont understand why they make it so complicated! Even WM 5.0 Smartphone edition was more fluent. I didnt have to move sound files all over the dam place just for specific events. Why in the hell cant it just let you Point to a file instead of stupidly being locked into one directly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is their a way to somehow change What directory its pointing to at least?
Guess i could just delete all the default sounds and put my own in their (if it will let me delete them)
Any Ideas? is their a way to have the sounds point to a custom location?
Again.. Can you change the pointed directory for event sounds out of the windows directory?
I've been lookin for the answer to this since my sprint mogul
I could be wrong but it sounds like you may need to look at flashing a custom splash screen. You can attach custom sounds to the splash screen to be whatever you want. I'm not to sure about the error sounds. I would assume you can associate an event to a sound file and call it a day.

hi all
i will like to assign my own music as alarm tone, any1 knows how to do it?
and i like to use SE panel 02. just wondering can i change the background with my own picture instead of the colours scheme they offer?
recently i realise my phone ringtone keep jumping from vibrate and ring into ring only by itself. so fustrating. any suggestion?
thanks
For ingtones you can use any mp3s, for message tone you need to use a WMA or WAV. file which you have to put directly into the windows folder... for Alarm tone you can only use a WAV. file which also goes directly into the windows folder.....
Check your ringtone setting to see if you have set it to ring then vibrate...
To change the picture on the panel you need to get 2 pictures one vertical and another horizontal (you can use the same picture but you need 2 files) rename one to "00h" (horizontal) and one to "00v" for vertical. Then place them in program files, panels, sonyericsson panels, images folder. Notice theres alots of files with these kind of names you can replace any of them by renaming your file but this will over write the original colour backgrounds in the panel.
It is possible to use a MP3 file for message tone
No you would need to convert it to WMA or WAV

hi,
i want to change alarm sound in my mobile rather than preinstalled ,,,i want to play another sound.
plz tell me how?
thanks.
Copy your sound file (*.wav) in \Windows directory,
then goto "Sound and Notifications" to change it.
here is another method that i use.
Open explorer and copy your desired tones in My Device/Windows/Rings.
Now goto home screen and click on settings.
Click on menu, there u click on All Settings
U will see option of Clocks and alarm, goto alarms, set the time and then click on drag down button. u will see ur copied tone there, select that and here you go!!
