help with adding Mod's - P3300, MDA Compact III General

hi there,
As you will guess by my question and post count i am a fully fledged n00b and have just bought the o2 xda orbit.
It such a great forum and enjoying reading all these mod's however there is one slight problem...
...how do you add them all?! i can obviously download all the files etc to my desktop (PC) but how do i then get them to install and work on my xda? e.g. quickgps mod, emulators, themes etc?
i imagine its very easy to answer and thanks in advance

They files will either be executable on your pc or cab files.
If executable you will run the application on your pc and then if the device is connected active sync will pretty much do the rest for you.
If cab files you explore the device with active sync and then drag the cab files to the device.
Then use file explorer on your orbit to browse to the cab file click on it on the device and bingo it will install.
any hassles or specifics pm me and I will happy talk you through individual programs or items.
But I assure you once you have done it once you will wonder why you asked..

ive sent you a pm just about one particular example that im having trouble with but thanks for the reply, slowly getting the hang!!

How to uninstall Intellipad?

I installed a CAB file called Intellipad. I just wanted to have a feel of XDA Mini on my XDA IIs.
But, now I want to uninstall this application, there is no way that this is possible until I do a hard reset. This is what I know.
Is there any less tedious way of doing so?
Thanks,
Siddharth
can u not delete it from the windows directory? i dont know as i have it and like it, but dont use it, and havent tried to remmove it. i would have thought if u look in windows and find the intelipad files if u remove them u get rid.
That would definitely stop the application from running, but I don't think it would "remove" it entirely.
Windows as an OS does not facilitate "uninstalling" the application just by deleting the files.
I already did what you have suggested, but that still leaves "Intellipad" as a choice in the "Input Type" menu at the bottom right.
Thanks,
Siddharth
practical tip
I assume you have a cab file for installing the intelipad.
open the cab file on your desktop to identify all the files that was inatalled at your phone (you may use win zip).
now that you identified all the file you may delete everything at you phone manual by finding them one by one (nice to start at windows directory).

Help please..need MSN exraction from WM6 ROM...

In short I have the new Athena/Ameo, but T-mobile doesn't like anyone using MSN live etc on their web n walk tariff, hence they have excluded it from the ROM.
Question: Do any of you know if it is possible for me to copy/paste the MSN exe from my WM6 Universal and simply dump it into the Windows directory of another WM5 device (e.g. Ameo) in order to use it there?
Do you guys think it is feesable or hazardous? Appreciate any feedback on this.
Did you check if the windows directory has instmsgr.exe or not? Generally the only thing they exclude is the shortcut. They don't delete the actual application.

No, it's not present.
I've tried taking the msn mobile files from the Rom kitchen thread, copied them the the Ameos windows folder then run the instmgr.exe. Nothing happens.
Anyone else have any ideas?

HELP ME!!

ok i have a excalibur and i have wm6 on it and im trying install apps on it it is unlocked but i have no clue what a cab file is or how to install it or how to run it is there anyone that can help me??? [email protected] THANK YOU
Generally, you install the cab file to your PC desktop, hook up your phone to your PC via Activesync, and after the sync operation, click the "Explore" icon in Activesync to open the folder with the contents of your phone, drag the cab file icon from your desktop into the new folder you've opened and it's on your phone. Then click on that program file in "File Explorer" on your phone and it will install onto your phone.
Generally, one posts with a topic that is useful and gives a summary of the problem, not "HELP ME!!"
Thanks
ok i have done that and it still wont install some sights say i need netcf 2.0 and i tried installing it and found out i have netcf 3.5 or something like that?

OEM Packed Software ?

There is some various software I searched for on the forum and found, most of the time it was related to posts about "oem packed" software or something.
For instance, I was looking for the latest HTC Audio Manager, ideally the black touch version. I found it and downloaded it but it turned out to not be a cab file and rather a .rar file that when extracted was simply the many files related to the HTC Audio Manager like a theme if you will.
A few other things were similiarly packed, and not a cab file to install.
So my question is and this may be difficult or vague but how does one install or use this? I suppose there is a cab file alternative out there but just curious how one would use this for the sake of learning and understanding the differences.
To know exactly what I am talking about the files in question came from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1530825&postcount=79
And specifically the one I got was the:
Windows Media Player Touch Skin by Duttythroy
Any help or even point me in the right direction? Believe me I have searched, however the results are vague and not helping much.
I don't just want a cab file in this case, so I am not asking for anyone to point me to a cab file, at this point I want to know how I would use these so I can learn more about the file structure and other things.
Thanks!

file explorer ??

I have searched this forum and the internet for over an hour and I cannot find any software to access the touch hd from my desktop as activesymc doesnt give you access to the PPC windows directory .. I think Im just being a bit blind so can anyone point me in the right direction....
all I want to do is organise my programmes... delete dead shortcuts, organise programmes into new folders etc......
I tried using total commander as I thought this would do the job... to no avail.......
im not even sure Im explaining myself very well....lol
Hmmmm, I have this as standard in ActiveSync - Tools - Explore Pocket PC.
Do you not have that option available?

I can explore the device from within activsync but it does not show the windows sub folder on the device....that is what I want to access
I figured it out/// i went into folder options within tools and selected show system files!!! woohoo
Update: annoyingly I can only move some of the programmes to folders I have created - all the programmes that came pre-installed on the device only let you copy shortcuts not move them....argh!!!
Do you have total commander - this is a much better file manager than the standard.
Also, it will generally let you move protected files.
