Hi, i found this really cool website a couple days ago
http://wm6.kyphur.org/Files/Today Themes/
It has a lot of themes for WM6. I am not sure where to ask ppl about this but how can i install themes on my WM6? I try searching on the web already but no luck.
Thanks if anyone can help me
I find this VERY hard to believe that you have searched.... but rather than be an ass about it:
Unzip the .tsk files to your /windows directory (on the device)......then run them in file explorer. afaik the theme should show up in start>settings>today.
Hey mrvanx, thanks for replying.
i unzipped the .tsk files in the ///windows directory on my fone
i try to run the three files that i upzipped but it won't load..
also what do u mean by "afaik the theme"????
Thanks for the help!
Once you've unzipped them into the Windows directory, they should then show when you go into Start > Settings > Today and you can select them from there.
I personally keep mine in the root of my SD card (i.e. not in a folder) and they show up fine in the Today settings. Just keeps memory clear on the phone & they also survive a Hard Reset from there.
these files are not zip files, they are tsk files, just rename them to *.tsk and copy them to your windows directory or to your sd card root.
when you open settings/today you will se the themes there.
i did that and it worked for me.
good luck,enjoy
Yea lol.. thats what i was thinking... y my PocketRAR kept on opening the stupid theme.. anyway i got it now.. Thanks all of you for helping me!

Im pretty new here and just got my BA not tooo long ago...I used to be a trreo user now im hooked on my BA.
I see alot of software that comes in a form of a cab file...does anyone know how I can load that software on my BA? thanks alot!
hey mate and welcome!
if you put the cab file in your pc folder; you'll see that the description is "zip file"....that's because it's the only format microsoft recognizes...in a way its also true as the cab file is a compiled program ready for installation. what you do is DON'T unzip the file in your pc; rather cut/copy and paste it directly in your ba (via activesync or in your sd card). put it in a folder that's easy to find; say "my documents...personal" (or you can make your own folder to put in cab files). use your ba's file explorer and go to the folder...from there double click (via stylus) on the cab file and it will automatically install itself. btw, if you copied the cab file in your sd card you can also execute the installation there....no need to paste it in your my documents area.
if you're using wm2005; upon execution the unit will ask you if you want to install it in the sd card or internal memory....that's really up to you depending on the size of the file you're installing.
hope that helps

thanks alot Robson.
Ive always looked past cab file programs b/c i couldnt install it. I hope this thread helps other newbies too. I searched and couldnt find an answer.
is there anyway that can install cab files direct from pc to ppc?
sorry for the late response; was in china for a week.
unfortunately, no. i don't think there's a way to install cab files via pc. if you do unzip a cab file; you'll notice that the files are something like:
0000124
009890
or something like that....can be as many as 20 lines of code...but scanning through the entire zip will not give you any .exe files which can be executed via pc. if you have a card reader installed on your laptop, simply copy and paste the cab file on your sd and from there install via your ppc
hope that helps

My current WM6 ROM won't install themes either.
Don't know if they did something to make them incompatible but I get the same problem you have.
\WINDOWS\ folder is where they should be placed...

I've seen what you're talking about. If you're running Windows Vista and trying to copy files to your device, it won't let you browse to the \WINDOWS\ folder to do anything.
Try using File Explorer and copy the file from wherever you have placed it and paste the copy in the \WINDOWS\ folder. It may also work in your My Documents folder, but I'm not 100% on that. The \WINDOWS\ folder should work though so that it shows up as an option in your "Today" options.
I use one that's got a Windows Vista Ultimate feel to it and like it a lot.... it's called BLGLOSS.TSK and I hope that my file attachment worked! I'm still quite the n00b at this stuff but have been madly cooking roms with Pandora, etc.... good stuff.
So basically what your saying is the automated install when you run a .tsk from any location no longer happens and you have to manually put it in a system folder for it to show up in the theme's list?
EDIT:
Yup apparently that is the issue! Theme's don't copy themselves when you run them from a memory card or wherever anymore.
If you don't fancy your themes clogging up your /WINDOWS/ folder (and who does?), they work just as well when dropped in the root of your /STORAGE CARD/. Note, if you put them in a folder in the storage card they won't get picked up under the Today setting, you must just drop them in the root.
With my themes in my Storage card's root, and my ringtones in my Storage Card's My Documents folder, the only file I have to copy to Windows now after a reset is the one I use for my alarm!
Personally, my favourite theme wesbite is here: http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/category.aspx?CategoryID=9&ttype=11 but make sure you've got "WM5 QVGA" selected in the drop down at the top or you'll end up with ones that don't work on landscape.

so wait were u able to make ur phone install the theme u wanted after you moved it manually to the windows folder or the root of ur storage ?
ok, i got the themes to show up under Setting->Today, but the theme doesnt look like how its suppose to....the theme that i posted on the original post shows a very big time on the today screen, when i set it on mine, the time doesnt even show up....only things like the background change....any ideas?
Fastindy, I think you may have got themes on PPCs mixed up with those on Smartphones. When you change a theme on a Smartphone, it affects the picture on the Today screen, as well as what info is shown on it and where. This means a Smartphone theme will have clocks, SMS counters, etc built into it.
A PPC theme, on the other hand, affects only the background picture, top and bottom bar colour scheme, and the Start drop down background picture. What info is actually displayed on the screen is determined by Today plug-ins - these are the things that show the clocks, SMS counters, calendar appointments, and so on.
On the Schaps ROM you linked to in the first post, the clock showing on the today screens is the HTC Home plug-in. It's available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327646 but I don't know if this is the newest/best version as personally I don't use (takes up too much of my screen for my liking).
Hope that helps.
if you go into folder options and tell it to show hidden files folders and drives, and untick hide protected operating system files then you will be able to see the windows folder from your computer.
Hi, my name is kostas and I recently become owner of a Blackstone!
After searching the forum about themes and how to create them, I decided to try and create one. That's when my problems started!
First I copied the windows folder from my device to my pc, then with manila editor I extracted the icons that I wanted to change and edit them in photoshop. After that, I replaced them to the manila files with manila editor.
When I tried to copy the new manila files to my device I got a message which says that I cannot copy them to the windows folder.
Then I used QuickCab to install the files from my phone but after the installation I started the TF3D and the old icons were shown.
What should I do to make this work?

If you used File Explorer to replace the files, most times it does not allow you to return them. The safest is probably to first disable TF3D (Settings\Today) and then use something like to Total Commander or Resco to replace the files in Windows. Soft reset and re-enable TF3D.
thanks for the advice. I'll try it and see what happens

Pleasure bro, hope it works for you. You can also look at HD Wall which allows you to create your own slider with your icons and then creates a cab for you to install.

Alternatively you can use Sashimi to copy the files to your Windows directory! But Total Commander should work just fine...
hello...by my question you can tell I'm a noob. I know how do everything but change themes for the ref ROM...or cht 2.0...where do i put the files...and do i extract...? please help...would like my phone to look even better. Google was much a help...thanks for it time...
p.s...you were in my shoes at 1 point...
A cab file must not be unzipped on your computer, it must me transferred to you phone and unzipped from there.
What I do is have a section on my phone memory card called "CAB FILES". I transfer all downloaded cab files there. That way I know where they are.
Your phone will change themes (say you downloaded CHT 2.0) once you run your selected cab file after a soft reset.
If you do not want to change themes that is okay, there are plenty of different things you can do to your phone to enhance it by extracting different cab files.
You don't like what you have done, you simply uninstall the cab file again.
