While I can't tell you exactly where to put the info (I flashed my BA to MW5 shortly after getting it, never really looked at the shipped O2 version), I can tell you that it will work.
With WM5, you need to set the GPRS access point to wap.voicestream.com and leave the rest of the settings alone. I believe the earlier versions of WM are even simpler.
Worse case, contact T-Mobile and tell them you have a wizard (T-Mobile MDA) and need the settings for the GPRS. I've got my account page set up that way and the info on it now applies to the BA.

Thanks jdc...I tried that with w2k3 with my sx66 and it did not work..bummer..I will try to upgrade to w2k5..if you dont mind, what rom (and ext. rom) did you use for your device to work on T mobile USA GPRS network? The phone originally was with Cingular with...PH20B1 B 1 WWE E XGULA001 1.33.10 1 0 1.33.110 1.02.10 02.10 Thanks for all your help...Will

What didn't work exactly?
I did a quick google and came up with this page:
http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/...0/41141-pda2k-t-mobile-gprs-mms-settings.html
Try that and see if it works.
Regarding the ROM I'm using, right now I've got an older Hemli vanilla AKU3.5 (my data cable seems to have developed an issue, so I'm not able to flash to anything newer yet).
Granted, WM5 is better than the one you have now (IMO), but you may want to stay with the current ROM (some people do like the official 2k3 over the hacked 5 we have available now), so I'd get that working first then try another ROM.

Yea !! jdc..I went to that site..and followed directions to tee..it did not work at first..I tried over and over ,then got tired ,went to sleep woke up this morn.,and remembered to pull out battery, started up , and it worked !! Thanks so much..now maybe I will try to get the right w2k5 rom and try an update ..Thanks again Will

glad to hear that you got it working. That's odd that you had to power cycle the thing to get the settings to take effect, but hey, it's working.

updated 2k3 on sx66
i noticed in your thread you mentioned the 2k3 works better than the wm2k5. i also have the same device situation as "Zzzbignew". i have had the device for about 2 years an recently started to look into updating my ROM and radio and all that good stuff. i am not too keen on all this and am not sure what specific ROMs i should be looking for with this sx66 im am using with tmobile. any links or advice you have as to how i can upgrade to a newer version of 2k3 would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your time.

T-Mobile works great on the sx66 in the US. You'll probably want to get a high capacity battery like the 2400 whatever from Mugen power. You'll also want to flash a WM5 ROM. I prefer the Helmi-Baniaczek v2. Push email works great and you don't lose your data if the power goes. Be sure to read the wiki on the subject thoroughly and set a few hours aside before you begin.
I'll attempt to attach a T-Mobile Network customization cab to this email. It should set up your internet and MMS settings for TMO USA. If it doesn't work, key the setting in as indicated in this thread

Thanks Rambo6, but now my kid popped the screen and it endlessy cycles through the alignment screen. I tried every trick including writing a welcome.not notepad file to my sd , and also went in to windows startup and tried to delete the welcome.exe shortcut but it still finds its way back after a reboot ( Where is the actual " Welcome.exe " located ?) So that is my delema...I am writing this on my wizard...I think I may have to get a new digitizer on Ebay to install over lcd screen...Thanks for your help.

Problem with connecting to GPRS

Hello,
I am a happy owner of XDA 2 and few days a go I managed to unlock it. Now Im using Vodafone simcard. The problem is I cant connect to the GPRS.
The XDA shows that I am connected but I cant brows and get my email. No matter which page a chose I always get signs :'The page you have chosen cant be find' or something like that.
I did all by the number:
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access point name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User name: wap
pass: wap
No one can help me becouse Vodafone told me to call O2 and O2 told me to call Vodafone.
When I enter the connectivity screen I can see Bluetooth sign and the white G on a black background sign which would idicate that the GPRS is available.
Please help me
O and another thing. After installing Windows 2003 SE I cant use my camera. Anyone knows how to fix that
Well first check if you got your connection settings right...got to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks and choose the network that has your GPRS connection. that is either My ISP or My Work, or whatever network settings you have that hold your GPRS connection settings.
hope that helps.
Got no idea about ur camera....try searching the forums. i'm sure there's a solution.
Doesnt work. I have there to things
1. Vodafone
2. My Work Network
Non of them works.
It is connecting to the GPRS and the status says Connected but every time Im trying to brows the internet I get the message that the webpage Im looking for cant be found and when Im trying to download my email the signs says 'Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Thenm try to download messages again.'
PLEASE HELP
Just that every one knows:
I managed to solve one of my problems connecting to the GPRS:
1. Cellular line (GPRS)
2. Access point: internet
3. username: web
4. Password: web
DONE
Now only the digital camera software problem
I was just going to post "why are you using wap for WWW access???", then I saw your final post.
WAP's only for downloading stuff from, say, MMS pictures etc. Otherwise a web access account is always needed. It is confusing though at first as it still says Cellular Line (GPRS) so it's something to watch out for.
Regarding your camera, what exactly is the problem?
- When you press the camera button, does it load?
- Does something else (like WMP) load?
- Does it give an error?
- Has it done this ever since you upgraded?
- Also, if you navigate to \windows on your phone, can you find two items in there called Camera? One will be the application and the other should be a (smaller file size) shortcut to it. If you can see it, does opening it load the camera module?
Let us know the answers to those questions.
Ant
1. The camera doesnt load.
2. There is nothing attached to that button (I got in to the buttons menu and its not on the list of devices).
3. It has been like this since the upgrade.
4. there is nothing in the Windows direcotry called camera!
As far as I understand the problem there is no software which would allow me to use the camera. When I called O2 they told me that WM2003SE does not support cameras and that is why it want work. When I asked if something can be done to fix it the guy said that it is impossible.
I refuse to believe in that becouse it is only the matter of software and every software problem can be solved!
Any suggestions?
I will be very grateful for any help
What ROM did you download?
WM2003SE by nature doesn't have camera software built in, they are in correct in that I believe, the manufacturers add the software for this depending on whether they have cameras on the phones. My XDA1 didn't have a camera and I had an unofficial 2003 ROM...with no camera application.
Sounds to me, particularly if you got the XDA2 second hand now on Vodafone, that the camera app is not on due to the Extended ROM not have the camera cab included.
Could you tell us where you got that ROM, or the version number etc if it was already on when you bought the phone?
Cheers
Ant
I bought the XDA 2 on eBay second hand and the camera was working with the old system. Then I bought the WM2003SE on eBay as a Update and after runing that update camera was gone.
ROM version: 2.02.t1WWE
ROM date: 05/17/04
Radio version: 1.18.00
Protocol ver.: 1337.38
ExtROM ver.: <empty>
The connection issue was here all the time !!

Sorry, can't help with the camera.

02 orbit gprs and flash help

Hi All I am quite new to moible pc but i do have excellent pc skills so its a bit of a learning curve for me. I managed to get most thing working the way I want reading these posts.
I Purchased an o2 orbit a few months back. I need to get the gprs roam settings to work with vodaphone simm.
Everything else works fine I would like to browse the web without wifi.
I think the phone must be unlocked as it works fine with my vodaphone works simm in it.
can you point me to the correct setting or does it need to be unlocked further to enable gprs settings to work?
other small problem of it keeps saying memory is low even though I have a 2gb storage expansion installed.
last small problem I cant get pages with flash media to play eg you tube videos what media source do i need to install.
Thanks
couple questions, when you ask roam what do you mean just so you can connect to vodafone gprs out and about and are you pay as you go or contract?
Hi
its a works contract vodaphone simm. Work provides a very basic nokia so I installed it into the o2. I pay work £7 a month for personal use
klkl basically you need to tap start>settings>connections (tab at bottom)> conections > add a new modem conection > cellular line GPRS > type in a name and next > access point is wap.vodaphone.co.uk > user name is web and password is web should sort you out
Once you get the GPRS working, go to www.mobile.htc.com on your phone and that site will lead you to where you can download flash for mobile PC.
although the phone works with the vodaphone simm it will not allow me to change the gprs password. i have tried deleting the old connection editing the connection. if it going to require a full unblock does anyone in uk reflash these o2 free and upgrade software for a reasonable cost if so please advise. I would need a very quick turnaround.
thanks
strange :S i've never had the issue and im running sweet with a T-Mobile sim in o2 orbit could be the custom script, might be worth doing the "clear storage" this will return phone to factory settings and remove anything you have installed but should sort it, basically you go settings > system clear storage and when its all complete will restart phone, when it says custom script will begin in 3 seconds press the soft reset button (small hole on side next to the answer button) this will stop the custom script from running so should be generic windows mobile setup, you'll have to set everything up manually but hey worth it if you can connect
Sound like a plan
also if i do system clear as described will this kill my phones contacts sim and voice dial tags and remove my
tom tom and voices?? can these be backed up first?
thanks

Hi, Newbs. When you flashed your phone did you use the "Sticky: The Guide for UPGRADING WM 6 to 6.1 with PICS and LINKS" I'm pretty sure you both skipped a step naughty naughty....
Well if you go to the Sticky and look at post #3 and run your connection setup like you were suppose too, we wouldn't be having this conversation . It honestly should be that simple.
Good Luck

Not sure if this will help but...
I have found that if I switch networks from my "E" data plan to my home WIFI, or vice-versa, I have to quite IE (press the pink tmobile button and select "close" for IE) then restart it and viola it works. I seem to have to do this anytime I was using IE on one network and then connect to another without my phone being turned off at anytime in between.
Hope that helps.

If you are running Ricky's v24:
Start > Accessories > Connection Setup
Run the Connection setup, select United States and T-Mobile. I think that you'll need a reboot after the settings update.

excruciatingly slow internet

I recently updated my rom to Miri's WM6.5 21869, from my default WM 6, and, the internet is just horrible. Youtube, takes as long as dialup to load, searching for images, it takes a good 30 seconds to a minute to load a page of results, and it's just all bull. On my default rom i would have 4 minute youtube vids downloaded in 30 seconds, image results in 3-5 seconds.
Any idea what i can do to help this? I want to keep wm6.5, not necessarily miri's wm6.5 so if you know of another ROM that is gprs/3g speedy then by all means point me in the right direction.
Im with optus prepaid, and my orginal rom was an unlocked telstra one.
Also I've heard that a newer radio version makes a difference, although i have not been able to navigate my way to an upgrade link. current version is 1.14......
A correct solution will receive a donation, for enough to buy a 6 pack of beer (if you use paypal)
Cheers.

Did you check if the phone might be set to only use GPRS for data services? Head to the settings tab, hit "Communications" and see if there is an option called "3G"! It has to be set to "auto" mode! If it's set to GSM, it will only use GPRS which is slooooooooooow.
And if that is in fact the solution, don't donate the money to me but to xda-developers!
Still no luck I didn't have an auto mode but i switched it to ON haha, but unfortunately it didn't seem to make a difference in download speed

Sometimes helps for me.
I've rebooted several times and re-installed the rom and still no luck On the standard rom i purchased it with it had an H symbol in the connection icon, now it's a G. Maybe optus just sucks?

With a G it's no wonder it's so slow... It's like a 56K modem!!!
When you set up the new ROM, did it recognize the carrier and run through the carrier specific configuration thingie after flashing?
Maybe there is something misconfigured so it won't use HSDPA even if it's available... Could you go to Settings -> Connections -> Connections and tell me what kind of connections are listed there?
Also, check the following: Settings -> Connections -> Advanced Network
In the drop down list, what does it say? It shouldn't be set to "Disable"!

HTC Touch Pro2 help needed --- Resolved

HTC Touch Pro2 help needed
Greetings everyone...
First of all, I would like to thank the developers and contributors here at xda-developers for making mobile life so easy and innovative for everyone..
I am here to discuss a problem that I am facing, which could be because I am not yet experienced with unlocking concept of locked mobiles..
Scenario :
I stay in INDIA and use IDEA cellular as my GSM network. Recently I bought a "HTC TOUCH PRO2" mobile from a dealer from Mumbai (Maharashtra) via Ebay.
The dealer said the phone was unlocked and shipped it to me.
It seems the phone was a US T-mobile locked phone earlier -- that is what I see from its appearance and logo of T-Mobile on screen.
I can insert by Indian SIM and use it to call and receive calls.. So, I believe the phone is defintely unlocked..
Now the problem :
1) I am facing issues to connect to internet using the GPRS services offered by my cellular network - which is IDEA.
2) I have made sure the settings for GPRS are configured properly in my phone.
3) I can browse websites using IE in the phone, but I cannot browse using the Opera browser in the phone ----- when using GPRS.
4) But when I connect the phone to my laptop using activesync, I can browse websites both in IE and Opera.
*** Please note the difference... Opera does not work with GPRS connectivity. IE works in all instances.
5) The instant messengers that are already installed in the phone (Gtalk, Yahoo, MSN) they do not connect no matter if I am connected via GPRS or ActiveSync.
Any idea why I am facing such connectivity issues with my HTC Touch Pro2 mobile?
Any help really appreciated.. Like I mentioned, I am a bit new to these things, so kindly bear with me if my questions sound illogical.
Some things you could try:
1. Install another version of Opera. You probably have Opera 9.7, then upgrade to Opera 10.
I use this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=334007&d=1275104091
You can get more version in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5902175#post5902175
2. Go to Start, Settings, Connections, Connections. You'll probably see two kinds of connections, the one you setup and My Work Network. First select Manage existing connections on your configured connection, go to Proxy Settings tab and check if This Network Connects to the Internet is selected. Then go to Advanced tab, and see that the option Programs that automatically connect to the Internet... is on your configured network, and that Programs that automatically connect to a private network is set on My Work Network.
3. Go to your mail Inbox, press Menu, Tools, Options. Select your mail account and press Edit Account Setup. Keep pressing next until you see Outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Select Advanced Server Settings, and ckeck if Network connection is set to The Internet. If it is and email is still not working, try changing it to the connection you configured (however this might mess receiving email under wifi).
Thanks for getting back to me in this thread.. I really appreciate it...

-- I did try this.. I have tried installing Opera Mobile 10 (Touch) and Skyfire browsers. Both these browsers work fine when I try to access websites when connected via ActiveSync. However, they do not seem to connect to websites when I try from GPRS.
IE however works just fine in any case.

Yes, I have tried this as well and confirmed several times that the connections are setup as per your instructions. But it wont allow the inbuild chat applications (yahoo, gtalk, msn etc) to connect to internet.

I haven't tried this yet, however, will try it today..
What I believe is, applications on my handset are trying to access T-mobile internet settings everytime. Hence, they cannot connect. However, I have made sure that I have configure the connections as per the instructions in step 2 mentioned above.
The other thing you could do is install a custom rom, that will get rid of any T-mobile setting in your phone. Some tips for you (but read the thread, don't skip it):
1. You have to figure out if your phone is pure GSM or CDMA-GSM. If its a Tmobile from USA its a GSM. The thread tells you how to identify each.
2. The phone has to be HardSPL, this is to unlock it so custom roms and radios can be installed. Has nothing to do with SIM-unlocking as far as I know.
3. Browse through the threads in the ROMs subforum. I use Energy's Rom, but maybe there is one that better suits you. If you go decide for Energy's, READ the first posts of the thread very carefully, especially the FAQ and explanation of different versions.
4. Flashing a ROM will delete everything from your phone. Contacts, appointments and tasks are backed up by Outlook through ActiveSync, if you want to preserve SMS try PIM Backup, its free and easy to find and use. It doesn't save MMS, those you'll have to save manually.

The other thing you could do is install a custom rom, that will get rid of any T-mobile setting in your phone. Bingo..... Installed the custom Energy ROM today and it has fixed almost 99.9% of the problem that I was facing.
The old original ROM was such a waste that I had started hating my HTC Touch Pro2. But installing Energy ROM has given a new life to my HTC TPII. Its just excellent..
I can now connect to internet with my service provider settings.. All applications working like a charm... Battery life seems to have improved.. The device is faster as compared to the old ROM... its just excellent..
There are a couple of issues I am facing with this Energy rom, however they are negligible and can be considered as minor errors.. Rest, the devise is working like a charm..
Connectivity issue same as above
