Hi All
Hope someone can help - have tried looking through forums but can't find anything that solves this.
I was struggling with memory - down to 1mb of storage - so I did a hard reset. Memory problems solved and am minimising software I put on the phone now (and installing them to storage card etc).
However, when I try and connect it to my PC with activesync - NOTHING.
The phone starts to charge which implies to me that the cable works. I've also tried a different cable, and different USB holes on my PC. However, no luck.
The USB option is ticked in Activesync connection settings and still nothing.
Can anyone think what might be the problem - I have tried de-installing Activesync and re-installing, have deleted any partnerships, but dont know if i need to delete USB settings or something.
Hope you can help this novice overcome this problem,
Ta
That's the stupid Artemis default setting that causes that error. Go to Settings > Connections > USB-PC and disable the enhanced network option.
Thanks for the quick response but afraid it's not that problem - I already have it unchecked.
Any other ideas?
Which Version of ActiveSync do you use, which OS and which Firewall? Are you sure you did a hard reset - did it erase all your data and come up with the setup screen?
Started with 4.5, then downgraded to 4.2, but when it didn't affect the connection, I put 4.5 back on.
OS: Win XP
Firewall: Windows - but do 'allow exceptions'
Yes - did the hard reset which took me back to start up
Had the same problem, in my case Windows Media Player prevented Active Sync from connecting. What I did, launched task manager sorted processes by name, and then plugged in the artemis.
In my case after 5 seconds or so a Windows Media Player process started, I had to manually end this. Windows Media Player keeps trying to connect, but after the fifth time of stopping the service my phone finally was recognized!
My OS is Windows Vista, but I read other forums where people have XP with this problem. Good luck!
I don't seem to have windows media player running.
I asked someone at work today as my phone won't connect to my work pc either.
We realised I don't have the original mini usb cable that came with the orbit and the cable I am currently using seems a little loose.
I do have the headphones, and when I look at them, they have a really snug fit into the socket in the phone and has small gold strips on the inside of both parts of the mini usb rather than traditional cables which have them only on 1 side.
Perhaps this is the problem - do other people have a mini usb which has a firm connnection in the phone? Perhaps I need a new cable given that this is an issue with any pc I try and connect to?
Had also problems, had to totally disable the firewall and shut down the popupblocker and sometimes a reboot with saved settings, on w2k and xp with activesync 4.5.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes. I keep reading about problems syncronizing with 2005 and Activesync 4 while others have no problem at all. Well, I'm stuck in the middle - My desktop sees the pocket pc and trys to syncronize but hangs on the syncronizing spinning wheel (before it asks for a new partnership). I have no partnerships setup, pocket pc has gone through a couple of hard resets to be sure, desktop has been restated with activesync installed - uninstalled - installed. I love 2005 but am running out of patience. Any help would be much obliged. By the way, GREAT work by all of those who let us simpletons run the latest and greatest OS on our ppcs - I take my hat off to you.
Thanks,
Travis
I had the similar problem on one computer. It seems to be a buggy USB on motherboard. Motherboard supported only USB 1.1. Fixed by changing the computer.
Still no luck with USB 2.0
I'm back in the office and trying to setup a connection with my desktop through USB. It works fine on my laptop and immediately asks to setup a partnership but on the desktop the wheel just keeps spinning saying connecting. I've checked that the USB is 2.0 and it picks up the device fine but does nothing more. Done a few Hard resets and windows updates qwith AS 4 install/uninstall as well. I tried van's solution herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20505&highlight=activesync+2005 but all I get is an error message saying "Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address try again later or enter an IP address in Network Settings. The final blow is that I've tried it on 4 other computers all with fresh Activesync 4 and USB 2.0 and 3 worked fine with 1 showing the same "errors" as mine. As I said in my first post - ANY help or thoughts are appreciated.
Re: Still no luck with USB 2.0
Any luck yet? I have exactly the same problem with my laptop.
Its happen to me also many times...my solution is...I am using diff PC/Laptop with USB1.1/2.0...
End the process of ''wcescomm.exe/rapimgr.exe/WCESMgr.exe" in your task manager. Open again the ''wcescomm.exe/rapimgr.exe/WCESMgr.exe" in your PC ''Program Files/MS AS Folder'' after connecting the device. check also the USB connection setting of AS.
Hope it works to you...

Hello,
I'm facing a problem with my HTC Touch Pro2. I can't sync with USB. The mobile charges but my computer does not recognize it as a device.
I have already tried the following:
-I used 3 different USB cables.
-I tried it on 3 different computers
-Hard reset the device
P.S via bluetooth my mobile sync. just fine.
Thanks for the help
i have exactly the same problem with my tp2 and posted on here, but is seems unfortunately no one knows the answer.
i have since contacted vodafone and they have done some checks and come to the same conclusion i came to which is it must be a hardware fault.
my tp2 is being replaced on monday by the kind folks at vodafone.
Hi,
Did you try to deactivate the advanced network mode for ActiveSync?
You'll find it in Settings > Connections > USB to PC
Good luck!
I took my device back to the place i bought it, they made some tests and they told me that it's a hardware issue and i', waiting for a new one..
Had this problem myself. For me it turned out to be "Zonealarm" firewall even though activesync was given full access from the program list.
Disable Zonealarm and see if it works. My 2c.
other cable
Had exactly the same problem.
Connecting: no, charging: yes.
I used another cable and everything worked fine!
Good luck!
got same problem. after used the original htc usb cable, everything fine
Same Problem here...its a hardware charger problem in the TP2
A few things to try...
This most likely will work if you have no issues syncing via bluetooth (if you have that option), but you can't get it to sync via USB cable.
First - disable ALL anti-virus software. Many of them these days contain either a firewall (you want to disable all of those too - including the builtin ones in XP, VIsta, or Windows 7), or an 'unwanted programs/ports' protection scheme - which for all intents and purposes prevents the sync.
(More info - the sync is basically a 'networking' connection between the PC and phone. Anything that may have an effect on that could potentially prevent the sync.)
Second, do a clean boot with everything disabled.
Third - start (and then shut down) Outlook, to make sure it can run, get mail, and the like.
Fourth - bring up task manager, and kill the WCESMgr.exe task - which is activesync.
Fifth - kill the WCESComm.exe - which is the communication program/protocol.
Lastly, launch activesync manually, with the phone unplugged from the cable. Then - plug in the phone.
In 99% of the cases when I had an issue getting the phone to sync, this process worked.
Can you try this - and post back?
Yeah, i have something funky in my active sync too, but i think its something i tweaked in vistas services. I dont care to fix it either. I will sync when i want to, not every time i plug in to throw a file on the phone.
Try going into control panel and launch active sync manualy on the computor
@ Jayco no all fail...i have two TP2 here. with one conection its no problem. the second dont will be conect to my pc...some tp2 in germany are broken its a hardware problem!!!!
Had a similar problem with my HTC x7501 and I uninstalled Activesync then re installed it and it worked for me...Tj
First I have to state: I've already searched the web and xda-developers forums. Tried all solutions found, none work.
I don't connect my HTC Touch Pro 2 to my computer (Vista 32bit) often; other than the first few days, when I was downloading a lot of softwares to my device, I don't connect them at all. But the point is I was able to connect to WMDC.
Yesterday I wanted to try out Pocket Diablo, so I had to connect my device in order to install .NET CF 2.0. But I found I can no longer sync:
- Before I connect the device, I can see WMDC's green tray icon
- After I plug in the device (using the cable from HTC), WMDC's tray icon disappeared.
- I checked Device Manager, and found "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" cannot start, error code 10. There was no mobile device listed.
- I tried another USB port, same result. I tried uninstalling all USB hubs and root hubs, let them reinstall, reconnect device, same result.
- With device still plugged in, I uninstalled "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and deleted the driver too. Then I unplugged device, uninstall WMDC driver update and WMDC itself, reboot PC, download WMDC6.1 from Microsoft again, reinstall WMDC, reboot, still no tray icon, and reconnect device with same result.
- I tried the above together with giving Users group full control on the registry key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Svchost\WindowsMobile", same result.
- If I uncheck "advanced connection" on my device, there is no "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" in device manager, but there is a generic mobile device listed. In WMDC it still thinks there is no device connected, and I cannot access the device in Windows Explorer.
- If I connect the device as a disk (under device's USB connection settings), I can access the device through Windows Explorer.
- I even hard-reset my device, still same result.
- I tested my old O2mini, same result.
- I don't recall any big changes on my system since my last successful connection.
- I tested my HTC Touch Pro 2 in my office (Vista 32bit), and it can be connected successfully.
So it seems the problem is in my home computer; the Windows Mobile Remote Adapter (version matches WMDC6.1's version) refuses to work in all cases.
Other than taking the sync cable in my office back home tomorrow, I'm all out of ideas of what to try next.
Can anyone give me a helping hand?
Bump. Please help, I really need to solve this.
- I'm taking the cable in office home, but I highly doubt that is the reason because with the cable at home I can connect as a disk and can charge.
- I notice in office (the successful case), the remote adapter is named "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter #2". At home (the failure case) there is no #number, just "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter".
Tested and it is not the cable. Cable used to successfully sync in office has same effect at home - Windows Mobile Remote Adapter cannot start, code 10.
I tried enabling WMDC debug log, but there're none - looks like the process failed at the driver stage and WMDC is not even started.
Also, when I have the device connected with the non-functioning driver, it seems to wreck havoc on my real network driver. I often need to reconnect my network connection.
Can anyone help?
It's getting weirder and weirder...
- I reinstalled WMDC for the countless time, and suddenly I am able to connect to O2mini (which does not connect via a network adapter). O2mini shows up in WMDC (can setup a partnership) and explorer. But not HTC TP2.
- If I disable advanced connection on TP2, I can connect TP2 as a Mobile device, but there is no network adapter. WMDC detects no connection, and I cannot view TP2 in explorer.
- I tried connecting O2mini again after TP2's failure, and O2mini cannot connect too - device manager shows no problem, but in WMDC I get nothing but the red stop sign and a simple message: "Error". No entries in event viewer.
And is anyone even reading this thread?
I was having a similar deal. Sync works solid on XP at home, was working but then stopped on 2 laptops with Vista and giving me those error codes.
I did the same things as unistalling mobile center on vista to no avail.
What did work was going onto the device, Start/All Applications/ActiveSync. Then Menu/Options and delete on the laptop PC's.
Now when I sync my vista laptop to the device it shows up as an additional device. I can copy files to it, I'm not sure if it syncs any other info.
The active sync also has an option for connections where you can uncheck "same for all pc's". I didn't try that one, but it might do something.
Update the Driver?

You mean removing the partnerships? I already did that - I had hardreset my TP2 for nothing too.

I tried, but Vista said I already have the latest version (6.1.6965.0). I tried uninstalling (and fill the checkbox to remove the driver) and reinstalling, no difference.
It has to be something not right on my computer's drivers.
I'm going to compare the driver files of my home and office computers and see if there are any difference...
I copied all files related to the Windows Mobile Remote Adapter home, and compared them to mine. They are all identical.
I also tried forcing Device Manager to show non-present devices (by setting two environment variables), removed the related ones and tried again. Same result.
I'm all out of ideas now.
I'm even considering moving up to Windows 7 (Ultimate 64-bit), hoping that will solve my problems.
-- but what? They leave me with a nasty bug and I consider paying them even more? Whiskey, tango, foxtrot?
Awesome, finally i found someone that has (i think) 100% my problem.
Let me ask you this, what is your computer specs? Because this happened to me after i got a new computer >.< .
Mine is
Asus p7p55d LE motherboard
i5 50?
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
I also have a HTC Touch pro2 (verizon) but i have testing my computer with a Samsung Omnia (verizon) to confirm my problem.
Edit: BTW this is on a Windows 7, just throwing it out there so that people can be even more mind boggled
Asus P7P55D Deluxe
Intel i7-860
2 sticks of Kingston 2Gb
I got my TP2 from Fortress (Hong Kong), they added a bunch of goodies in the ROM, like the radio cab, 1% battery driver, a business card scanner, etc.
You have the same problem on Windows 7? I am going to buy W7 tomorrow, I'm going 64-bit...
If I get the same problem in W7, then well, damn... at least I can connect TP2 as a driver and write data to it. But if I need to install anything from the PC-side, I'll need to rip the cab out of the installer.
holy crap then i think i know why its not working. Maybe its because of the new chipset p55? Doesnt support the drivers? or something

Definitely not.
Plus I have sync'ed successfully before, and my TP2 plus cable can still sync in office, advanced connection on. It's a software problem.
I encountered the exact same error in Windows 7.
The Windows 7 is a fresh install, Windows updated, and installed 64-bit version of WMDC.
Darn.
First, sorry for my very bad english.
I had the same problem ( Error code 10 with Microsoft Mobile Remote Adapter) with p7p55d and Windows7.
It was a trouble with my asus p7p55d.
- I updated my bios to the 0711 version (this version does not appear on AsusUpdate, i found it on www.asus.com)
- I uninstall old Windows Mobile remote adapter
- I uninstall WMDC
- reboot
- simply plug my phone and let windows update do the job. This time it was good for me...
I have the same issue with ASUS P7P55D PRO and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, even with BIOS 0711. I tried all the ideas, nothing helps.
The same problem for me.
Windows 7 64bit,
Gigabyte P55M-UD2 Mainboard
I report great success with this problem!
Like suggested from a previous poster, i did update my bios to 605 (this is for p7p55d LE). But i noticed one thing, the setting for Plug and Play was set to that the bios handled it. I changed to so the that OS (?) handled it instead and tried everything again.
Happy to say (after some extra problems that does not pertain to this error) i finally got it to work. Hope my experience help others.
Encountered a similar issue yesterday.
WMDC could not sync. Although when selected as a disk drive, it connects fine.
What fixed it for me was to disable this setting in the device: Settings/connections/usb to pc/enable faster data synchronization.
Exit out, no reset required.
Good luck.
I have the same problem since my new gigabyte p55-ud5
i have windows 7 Ultimate. my htc diamond work fine for one week, then it stoped sync.
i think its somthing with the memory....
i tried to change the speed on my corsair DHX 2GB from 1600Mhz to 1333 and it worked for couple of days.
then it stoped sync.
tried to add voltage in bios but no good.
updated the bios - then it only worked with memory speed 1333 or 1066.
i shutdown my computer only once in a week.
then it started again. now no matter what i do - no SYNC.
i searched for this error alot and the common hardware is:
P55 + vista/win7 + HTC.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Firm-up!
i have a good news!
Finally i got it after firm-up the bios.
Asus p7p55d turned out to got a problem installing 'Windows ... Adapter'

I'm hoping the wisdom and expertise I always find on this forum can help me.
I have a new AT&T branded HTC Touch Pro 2 (Tilt 2). After about a week, I began getting the dreaded "USB Device Not Recognized" error any time I plug it in. It never connects properly. I have customized the phone using some of the cool tools I found here, but I have never flashed any portion of the device - it's just the way I got it (WM6.5 CE OS 5.2.21849 Build 21849.5.0.63)
As suggested in various places on this forum, I have:
Soft Reset the phone numerous times
Rebooted the computer (WinXP) many times
Tried several different cables, including the HTC branded extUSB one
Tried different USB ports on my computer(s)
Tried other computers (WinXP)
Tried Windows 7 (WMDC) on another computer
Hard Reset the phone several times (with and without backup restore)
Uninstalled and re-installed ActiveSync 4.5 and the USB drivers
Adjusted various settings, including USB to PC, according to various posts
Cursed extensively in three languages
Regardless of any of this, every time I connect, I get the "USB Device Not Recognized" error within a few seconds.
I am now convinced the problem is hardware, probably the USB connector on the phone. I can't be without the phone until later this month, so I can't get the hardware fixed for a while. But I need to sync.
USB, of course isn't the only way to sync; the phone has Bluetooth. The problem is, I previously reset the device and un/re-installed ActiveSync, removing the pairing at both ends. To sync over Bluetooth, I have to first sync over USB, something I can't do.
MY QUESTION IS THIS:
Does anyone know a way to force ActiveSync to pair over Bluetooth WITHOUT first pairing over USB?
Any assistance anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated

if u go to settings>connections>usb to pc un check enable faster data sync
that might help
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that's one of the first things I tried and it makes no difference (I just tried it again - no joy). I should have listed it in my original post.
The only thing I can think of is to somehow force the phone to sync via Bluetooth WITHOUT having previously synced via USB.
Anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how to do it?
I think you should go and replace your hardware if it has warranty (since you have not flash it). tell them my phone USB connection is not working at all, and let them try it on their computers to make sure, am sure the warranty covers this kind of things
Uh, you're talking about the error on your PC right? This is a common issue. (with pc's) Use another USB port on the computer. That is what I have had to do. It worked fine for both the TP2 and my Wizard before that, but ever since I reloaded the computer I get that error on certain USB ports. have not researched it too heavily yet, but I plan to.
Did you try installing the Windows Mobile Device Center?

Did either of you read the post? It clearly states that he has done BOTH OF YOUR SUGGESTIONS!
Unfortunately, it does sound like this is an issue with bad hardware in the phone. I would suggest getting it replaced under warranty.

I'm having the same problem (vzw TP2). I've already messed with all usb-to-pc settings, tried different USB ports (I've had other USB devices that req'd that), reset my PC (thank you dogbert), reset my device and am currently reinstalling ActiveSync; though I doubt that's the problem because my BT syncs work fine (I don't recall being req'd to do a USB sync intially before doing a BT sync, so I can't really help the OP with that). My device does charge via the USB cable when plugged into the PC. Disk drive mode doesn't work any more than activesync. I also haven't been able to spot it on device manager. Uninstalling it there was one of my first ideas.
I'm wary of using a BT sync to install the official VZW 6.5 ROM, because I've read bad things about ROM interruptions.
I have yet to find by searching anyone who had a real USB sync problem (i.e., one that doesn't get "fixed" by resetting or something equally simple) who has actually posted that they found a solution.
@OP, when do you get a message that you are req'd to sync by USB first? Does activesync tell you or your device?
I have this problem at work where the machine is managed. It just refuses to recognize the device. It's a security issue that we haven't been able to track down yet. I think if you look in one of the logs (forget which) you will see the actual error as it tries to load the driver.
just for the hell of it, try an older version of activesync. just tryin to throw in all possible fixes. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3a-28bf-4cac-a682-58d3233efb4c&DisplayLang=en
try removing the sdcard and syncing?
RE: A New Approach
Thanks for all your responses. Sorry to take so long to respond to your questions and suggestions, I've been away (funerals and CES).
I have read extensively on this subject, have tried EVERYTHING everyone has suggested, and reached the conclusion that this IS a hardware problem, probably involving the USB jack itself.
At least for a while, replacing the hardware is something I can't do.
I want a BT sync for syncing with Outlook (Calendar/Contacts) and for installing software. I currently have NO plans to flash the ROM, I agree that would be risky over BT.
The error appears to be generated by Windows, I don't think it ever gets as far as ActiveSync, ActiveSync always indicates that it is not connected.
Despite that, I did try an earlier version of ActiveSync (can't remember which one); no joy. I tried Windows Mobile Device Center on a Windows 7 machine, but the results were the same: Device Not Recognized.
SO, does anyone know how I can force a BT sync WITHOUT first syncing by USB? That would solve my immediate problem.
Unfortunately I been there and done that.
The only workaround is to use a free exchange server - www.alol.net.br
I put it on my computer's outlook. Copied all the contacts and calender items from my default folders. Synced with ALOL. Installed on my phone, and synced via my wifi.
Not the best solution, but T-Mobile refuse to fix the faulty Diamond motherboard, but it works fine.
The first sync on the phone comes up with a error message, but after that it is fine. You need to manually put in all the settings.
I'm assuming that you have your phone set to "Activesync" + Enable Faster data synchronization on your Phone, under Settings->Connections->USB to PC
Have you tried changing this to "Disk Drive"? Activesync can still connect to the phone and do syncs, etc.
Atleast this is my experience on XP. I've had the same problem on/off after flashing one particular custom ROM.. Don't remember seeing this on my stock Tilt2 ROM.
Have you tried turning your computer Windows' firewall competely off? I read soom were that there seems to be some confict with windows firewall reconizing Activesyc.
None of the settings in the phone, including Disk Drive, make any difference. I'm fairly certain that I've tried them all. None of the settings on the PC side, including Firewall, make any difference either.
The connection never gets to ActiveSync; the USB drivers fail to recognize the device well before that.
As I mentioned earlier, I have become convinced that this is a hardware problem with the phone, probably related to the USB connector. All my research leads there.
The approach I'd like to try is to bypass USB connectivity completely and attempt to sync over Bluetooth. The problem is that ActiveSync refuses to sync over Bluetooth until AFTER the first USB sync (and setup).
Thus my question:
Does anyone know a way to force a sync over Bluetooth WITHOUT first syncing over USB. Registry hack? Settings change? ANYTHING?
Quick note.
This issue started happening to me as well.
And here's the somewhat odd part. With the SD card removed the phone is discovered properly. The original SD card and another spare one inserted in the phone cause the this USB error for me.
Go figure.
(and yes I've tried formatting the sd cards, and factory resetting the phone)
Since I use ubuntu, I'm not really going to spend anymore time figuring out this windows bug. Just needed to apply an update..via windows.
Try this it worked for me

Like it says, my computer charges it but doesnt sync up with my computer. i have a touch pro 2. (tmobile version) Im trying to connect it to my computer so i can do an upgrade for the energy rom any body else have this problem?
IF so can you help me on fixing this situatioN? please!!? thanks a bunch guys
happy holidays
I know this problem to good -I guess a hardware fault. I had this with my first and now with the second TP2 too.
For my guess the USB connector-hole (or how you call it in english) is too big! If I place the TP2 in a dockings station everything is fine -sync no problem.
If I try it with only connection by cable -not a hope.
If you buy I docking station I guess the problem could be solved
I had this with my 1st Tilt 2, nothing I tried worked. I had to sync/move files via BT USB. It was inexpensive (made by ASUS) at $14 and very low profile. Believe it or not, it worked really well, even for huge RHODIMG files when I wanted to flash a new ROM. The bigger the file, the longer it took, but it *did* work.
Recently, I got a great deal on a used, mint condition, Tilt 2 with lots of accessories, including an Otterbox, for $150 shipped, and my USB syncing is working again. Definitely a better deal than the $90-$275 estimate HTC gave me to repair the USB.
Hope you get it sorted, but it's been a common problem with this phone. Seems the pins inside are really delicate.
EDIT: Hey I just noticed we all have a "thanks meters" now... Schweet!
Debbie
dang is there any other way i can fix thiss??
Just had my T-MO Vario V replaced for this very thing. As my replacement started acting up as well with the same error, I searched again on the web and found that it might also be a faulty usb cable or the fact that you connect your phone via a hub rather than directly to a mainboard port.
I use another cable now connected to a mainboard port and guess what (and keep your fingers crossed) for the moment it's working.
Good luck!
Robert
Im using a T-mobile (SIM Unlocked) TP2 from Singapore. Same thing here, when plugged to the PC via USB (the one that came with the phone) it charges but doesnt show the actual syncing with ActiveSync 4.5. I used to have an old Treo 750 that synced just fine (though TP2 definitely has a much much better PC connector than the Treo).
One thing I noticed is even though ActiveSync is not popping up for automatic syncing, It always show in the taskbar as connected. I can even navigate to my TP2 in Explorer & transfer files to & from my PC via USB. My question is, is there a way for ActiveSync window to really come up whenever I plug my TP2 in?

Yes it is in the device setting in active sync ...
I also tried every possible settings with Activesync options in the phone but it still doesn't show the actual ActiveSync window when I plug my TP2 via USB though it connects & via the taskbar icon & still explorable in windows explorer. I just want to have that peace of mind that I can fully back up using Activesync aside from using other 3rd party backup tools before I start playing with different ROMs out there.
first check the "usb to PC" settings in setting menu on the phone, try unchecking "enable faster data sync" see if this makes a difference .
if not then try going into your control panel on your computer, and use "add and remove programs" and remove active sync , then re-install it , also change the usb cable if you have another one laying around..something that will make a difference..
"enable faster data sync" uncheck this and it should works.
I had same problem...
Try entering bootloader mode and plug it in and see if windows detects the device if it does then try clicking on start on your PC, then right click on my computer, then click manage.
When computer management opens click on device manager then click the + to the left of usb devices.
click on each usb controller you find and press delete and uninstall each one until none are left. Then restart the pc and unplug the phone, soft reset the phone. Wait until windows restarts and AFTER it has finished installing ALL drivers for your usb controllers plug the phone back in and see if that fixes the problem.
I just thought as well, try plugging the usb lead into a different usb port, that way windows will treat the phone as a new device
