Think the camera on my 8525 was working fine lastly before i downgraded my Radio to 1.40...I have tried updating firmware n number of times still the camera wont work...Hardreset softreset nothing is bringing the camera back...tried 3rd partycam tools and it launches and disappears in a sec... searched the forum and looks like im the only one...
Anyone have any suggestions ? do you think i burnt my camera or something?I do have an option to get it sent back..but wanted to see if someones suggestion here helps fix it so others can learn from me...
It was on black 3.01 when it was last working and tried everyones roms after it didnt work..

Ok its fixed now... Dont know what fixed it... maybe the constant upgrade of roms or the ppcreset... or pulling the battery out and leaving it for 10 mins... But finally i dont have to send it in for a refurb... Thanks for anyone who looked and thought of a solution... If anyone else has this again they can try all the things i tried...
1) Upgrade/ Downgrade Radio multiple times.
2) upgrade SPL multiple times.
3) Try all the cooked roms
4) Revert back to ATT wm5 rom.
5) Reset device with Reset PPC
6) SuspendPPC (These i found in the black rom under system Folder)
7) Pull the battery out for 10 Mins.
Hopefully something in this combo works... cant point out which since i did too many things...
This forum is great with info available here Thanks to all the chefs, the guides and WIKI.
Cheers...
Disappearing Camera? Me Too.
My Camera Disappeared a few days ago, the hardware button on the spine does not bring it up and the application does not run, it just brings up the photo viewer. I even run the exe and get nothing. Also note, "Brighter Screen" does not work nor "Bigger Screen". For the record it's a Hermes100 and its running ROM Pro BLACK 3.0.1 and Radio 1.41.00.10.
I am looking all over, but I can't find anyone with the proper solution. May I should take my Cingular 8525 back and see what they say, they are probably going to say it was my fault when they see the new radio and Rom, but the problem happened with the original ROM.

Did you do everything i mentioned above?
try different combinations. I had the exact same rom and radio as you...
when i downgraded the radio it took the camera out for some reason.
If i were you i will try different things before the last option of sending it back for a refurb.
Good luck

Using my Cingular 8525, was using Black 2.0 with no problems, but wanted to try LVSW's newest ROM, so I flashed to that. It ran good, but battery life was horrible, so I wanted to go back to Black 2.0, so I flashed to it. Re-installed everything, but my camera didn't work, if I pressed the button nothing happened. I did a hard reset, no luck, I reflashed Black 2.0, still wouldn't work.
My solution was to flash to an older LVSW ROM, and that worked, my camera was back. So, I flashed again to Black 2.0, and everything is fine.

I was about to flash back to Cingular ROM and do a warranty exchange!
I'm running Black 2.0 on 8525 w/o camera issue.
You may want to remap the buttons, that's all I can think of.

No, it wasn't a button issue. If I went to start/programs and chose camera, nothing happened.
But, like I said, it's all working fine now after 4 million re-flashes.

pervert, quit flashing just for your camera.. i mean phone.. um
sounds like a weird issue though, but like they said before.. sometimes things happen.. the unexplainable mystery's of your phone...
it could be that your physical camera might have intermittent issues
I actually have the same issue. I have been running Black 2.0 now for a couple weeks or better (awesome build JJ) with no issues whatsoever, until about 3 or 4 days ago the camera stopped. Same issue as posted, button doesn't work, I tried going to the exe file, nothing. I tried loading a 3rd party program that is supposed to be better then the OEM Cingy camera program, it would flash up for a second and then disappear.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that JJ is going to come out with 2.5 and I will reflash my ROM and see if it comes back.
Funny, I have used the camera like 3 or 4 times since I got it...wouldn't have missed it but came across a pretty cool photo contacts/dialer program that I want to start using....went to use the camera for my first contact....and nothing.
JJ if your readin...please let me know if you release a Black 2.5, I would be all over it bud.
Cheers
Whats the Photodialer program called ? I was dissapointed in the 8125 and 8525s built in picture contacts, I mean if this sucker can do video calls why wouldn't they let me atleast have a pic of who I wanna call lol. Sometimes I think they treat this too much as a phone first and PDA second.
I believe it is called V2R PhotodialerPPC. Pretty cool compared to a few others I have tried. It is a today plugin, actually similar to the "Five" where you can rotate through the images with your 5-way. When you select a contact it makes that one active and then allows you to switch through that contact's different numbers rather then most others where you can only select one number from that contact.
Now if I can just get my camera working again on my 8525...
Cheers
hey guys,
my green answer call button doesnt seem to work. i'm wondering if its the rom or the phone. it still lights up but doesnt respond when i push the button.
any suggestions like a button tester program?
kind regards,
jason
Are you having any problems with any other keys?
If its just the one you can break your phone down and check your connections and see if anythings loose or damaged. Make sure to go to the Wiki and check out the guide on how to properly take your phone apart.
everything works except for that the green phone button
Starting to wonder about malfunctioning buttons posts
I myself posted a thread on my malfunctioning power button . I am getting the feeling that certain apps and tweaks are causing some of these malfunctioning hardware buttons to happen. Not exactly a scientific point of view, but I think lots of this button malfunctioning (no matter which one), can eventually be resolved by HR or as mentioned in another post, Clear Storage. I myself, within a minute, pulled out my SDMicro card out for 15 seconds, took off Quickmark application (last app or cab put on my system), and my power button turns on/off as it should. I had to resort to SR's when I had my problem..........................
Latest: Found out that my main problem was NOT any of the above,, it all seemed to occur because of a buildup of Notification Queue's,, so check that out... I think that those queue's can be a source of a lot of problems
cheers for that suggestion.
softreset doest fix it so i will have to resort to hard reseting.
lucky the vodaphone version has the 3G phone button and i can use that to get to the dial pad but it then assumes my calls are 3G which are annoying
has anyone got any suggestions then?
i flashed K's new rom and still my 'Green Answer Phone' button doesnt work.
thanks in advance for any help

i had a similiar problem when installing a different dialer via cab.
i would suggest to either install a naked rom (like pandora naked) or one of the older roms (like schaps v3.x).
do not install any other cabs and see if the green button is working.
i flashed pandora naked rom and it still doesnt work.
any one have any other suggestions?
if not will i have to take the phone apart :S?
the Irda doesn't work at all, when i install a program to use my tytn as a remote for my tv, and i try to clone my remote i get an error saying "Irda port being used by another application"
and it wont communicate with over devices via Irda. other than that it works great...does anybody know a way to fix this problem?
p.s. tried other roms, Irda works fine, so it's not the phone.
please help this lost soul!!
thanks!
sorry, posted in wrong area! rookie mistake! forget about it!
A general rule I follow is not to use too many .cabs as certain apps and tweaks can cause some of these malfunctionings to happen.
You cant be installing cabs for everything on your phone. Do you really have so much space in your phone?
hey guys i thought this was a thread about getting my green answer call button working again!
seem like more of a hardware problem to me. you can still try checking for bad blocks, flashing another radio, but that all may be futile. look up the disassembly guides in the wiki. mikechannon also has some stuff on that, if u click on his sig
I did a quick search of this forum and only saw this issue brought up once before (not answered, and dif version of this handset), so I will put it out there again.
Occasionally after I get an SMS, or send one, I will open up the keyboard but I get no response. It will light up if it is dark. The handset recognizes it is being opened (switches to landscape), but the keys do nothing. I am able to open up the software keyboard and continue whatever I am doing, but nothing on the hardware one. I usually will finish my texting, and move on to other things, and when I check later, it works fine...as if nothing was ever wrong. No soft reset, or anything... This has happened several times, but I will go weeks without it happening.
Oh yeah...I am using the stock ROM for the tilt 2.
have you applied the hotfix already?
I was not aware of any hotfix for this. I did a quick search and found nothing. Can you please point me in the right direction and I will look into this...
I'm having the same problem with my Tilt 2. Factory ROM, and I have applied the hot-fix. And yesterday I preformed a hard rest. Its still does it. The keyboard will partially stop working at times.
I get the same response, with the keyboard out the phone switches to landscape, the hot keys work (contacts, Internet, home, etc.), but it wont type letters or numbers. Sometimes after going into sleep mode it will work latter, but usually I have to soft rest. This is happing several times a day. Quite annoying!

I dont think that this applies to the 6.5 rom, I have tried to install this and it wont. I think this was discussed awhile back about this hotfix.
I followed the above link, however, I did not see a hotfix that fits what I am experiencing unless "freezing in SMS" is what you guys are thinking. I did not interpret my symptom as 'freezing' as I am fully able to use the screen...just not with the hardware keyboard.
Never-the-less, I have no problem installing the hotfixes. I am not clear on whether or not they apply to my version, however, they are dated after my purchase, so I am thinking that they should be OK.
Oh yeah...where would the discussion be regarding whether or not this applies to me...I was unable to find it...
Same issue for me, flaky hardware keyboard. I'm running the AT&T stock ROM, and I put the hot-fixes on immediately after they came out.
The issue is with the Stock ATT ROM. I am the chef of the e2 ROM series here and my ROMs are customized for AT&T. With my custom ROMs I have no issues with the keyboard at all. This is because most of the packages were updated. So if you want to fix your keyboard, you'll need to flash a new ROM. If you want/need a customized ROM for ATT then check out the e2 ROM series in the ROM Development thread.
Thank you for the info/invite. I will certaintly check out your ROMs. I have been reluctant to flash this phone as I can't afford a replacement if things go bad (not to mention the hassle of reinstalling/re-setting things up)...
The camera on my HTC Excalibur has stopped working. It's not just the camera button, because the button still works as SYM. I get absolutely no response when I try to run Camera.exe as well.
I am using 3VO.3.50.033010 ROM. However, I have tried a couple of earlier ROMs and had the same malfunction.
Any help is appreciated.

Do a hard reset and see if that helps
Little late, but continuing...
I had almost given up on the issue, but since I found this topic, just wanted to try.
So, my camera stopped working. First, partially, showing this message that it couldn't be loaded, then completely. After all soft and har resets I tried, all ROMs flashed, nothing seems to have helped. Any idea on what I should do? Should I just assume I can't fix it?!
Do you have other problems with the device, e.g. run out of power easily?
Can you still operate WLAN well?
Often the battery of older devices is aging and slowly getting dead.
If not, then:
As already proposed: try hard-rest first.
If you are on a cooked ROM: try with a shipped ROM.
If that does not help you may need to dis-assemble the device (not easy) and clean up the connector from the camera to the PBA. Still not helping: replace the camera - or the device.
So...
well, as you mentioned, my battery is easily out of power, but i guess the problem is the cellphone cause the two last batteries i recently bought have no difference in performance to the one that came with the phone itself. after 8h it usually discharges completely. disassembling is something i'm not sure i'm doing, but, thanks for your reply!
Hi, I'm a new user, I tried to post on the energy rom thread but am not allowed to.
Also, googled the issue a bit and as far as I searched didn't find similar issues.
I recently bought a htc touch pro2 and flashed it with energy rom. after flashing it, the camera doesn't start (click camera and nothing happens). also i notice when accessing settings, the camera and video tabs don't display (click multimedia > pictures and videos > menu > tools > options)
I am guessing it's some setting that should be changed, but i can't figure out how to do it.
Can you help me?
thanks.

Are you sure it worked on the stock rom? You might try flashing back to stock, and then reflashing the custom rom. Might be a bad flash. Random things happens sometimes.

It worked. I took some pictures.
In the meantime I flashed again and still doesn't work.
Another thing I noticed is sometimes the windows key/button/pictogram stops working, as in, I click it and nothing happens, but the phone works fine
I also flashed it (again) with a stock rom - seems to be the same I had before having started this whole mess. With the stock rom, there's no camera application at all.
I'm definitely doing something wrong but not sure what.

If the stock rom does not have a camera app, then how did you take pictures?
Which version of the TP2 do you have?
I am wondering if you got a flaky phone.

You have an excellent point. What the original rom and the most recently flashed rom have in common is a lot of at&t icons, so I assumed they're the same.
I don't know how to identify the version of the TP2. I bought a T7373, according to the invoice. Active Sync says I have a T7377.
Somehow I believe this whole mess is my fault, rather than the phone being flaky.
It all started because the old touch diamond 2 has the start button in the bottom left corner whereas this one had the start button in the top left corner. I wanted my button back in its place, so i started digging for a windows 6.5.3 rom...
Sounds like you should read this thread.

I did. Before flashing the phone for the first time.
I googled the IMEI as well. According to the IMEI no, it's a HTC Vogue (?).
Anyway, I believe I cleared the version issue, it's HTC Rhodium 100 = T7373.
I think I cleared The missing camera issue as well, meaning that with or without icon, all roms include camera.exe.
Are there any third party apps that check connectivity to the camera (or other camera.exe implementations)?
Thanks,

The Rhod100s are the bastard phones that don't work right half the time with any custom software. They are known for that.
Unfortunately you are on your own with that one. I had the Rhod400. Good luck.
I solved the problem.
Basically, these phones come in two flavors: with one cam and with two cams. The majority has 2 cams and the majority of roms are for 2 cams.
I suspected this might be the issue when I noticed in a comparison chart that T7373 has either one cam or two, also wrote a tiny app to return the exception code and message and the exception returned was "Unknown error" which I then googled and got either bad firmware or bad hardware.
In the meantime my son broke the display of the phone, so I had to fix it, and I also bought a spare stripe for the front phone, the one with the second cam, since it was quite cheap, and I had to fix the phone anyway.
Surprise. Now everything works fine.
So, the moral is, Rhodium is a very nice phone, with a good firmware, just that you need to flash the right firmware for the right model.
I'm interested in any information on how the camera is initialized, maybe I find time tomake changes to one of the versions for the less-lucky people who only have one cam.
