do not jump onme for this question....
DOES SPV M3100 with WM6.0 on it have HSDPA... because in the normal specification of the phone this is not specified...
i know there are a lot of threads saying something about the H icon... but no one answered if that is just an icon or really HSDPA enabled ROM

The device is capable of it. However, whether or not you can see/use it depends on your carrier, availability in your coverage area and your SIM card.
Also most of the WM6 roms that I have tried have a performance app that allows you to enable/disable HSDPA.
i am asking this because in my area there are plans to "release" the HSDPA option... now if i connect to internet the 3g icon changes to H... as I read it is a normal behavior for HSDPA to be activated only when neded.... but i made a speed test... and all i could get was 145kb per sec... there are 2 possibilities... either it is only the icon of HSDPA and no real HSDPA capabilities, either, being in the test period, the speed isn't up to the full capabilities... i just don't know... the day i have noticed the H icon was the day i read the article about the intention to release the HSDPA in a few months... and also the day i (again) changed my rom from black 3.0.1. to dutty v2 (BT car kit issues)....
ok... did again a speed test on http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed and the speed was between 300 and 340kb per sec... with a 600k file... so far from HSDPA... but.. still... i had H icon on my connection type....
You can also check the preconfig file in your /windows to see if hsdpa is enabled. Check the wiki, and theres also a thread on it somewhere. I would post the link but im at work w/ no time to search. good luck!
Hey check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305872
and note my post in it... but it does sound like you got HSDPA, the 600k is too small a sample to give a proper average.
ok... i read that also... another question... is it possible that my phone shows HSDPA connection although this is not available? 'cause i made another test with a 1MB package and this time i got 350kb per sec... so no real HSDPA... although the connection stated so...
ok... starting 25th of june my operator says that will "give tot the people" the new 3G+ with a transfer rate of 3,6Mb/sec... i think this is HSDPA?... right?...
as I said before my spv m3100 with wm6 showed me H icon and HSDPA connection active (in the connection buble) but no speed over 350Kb/s... the reason i think i got HSDPA connection is that of the test that i think the operator made before the big launch... but still... no HSDPA speed... i hope that i will get bigger speeds after the 25th of june....
H=HSDPA. Your carrier supports it....
however:
actual speed is affected by a number of issues. For example, a big one can be the speed of the data pipe connected to the cell towers.
What I'm saying here is this: Actual speed is based on the total bandwidth your carrier provides from your hermes all the way to their Internet connection. Just because the pipe to your hermes from the cell tower is 3mb/s dosen't mean your internet browsing speed will be that.
ccezar2004. you can try with Connex if it happened to go in Europe, I just retuned from Bucharest and 3.5G worked perfect with dual SIM, 450-500 kbps over UMTS 2.1 GHz spectrum

I don't know your location but I would be amazed if you get more than about 1mb/s.
You are probably getting the H when the cell acknowledges that it has HSDPA - but the switches between the cell and the main network probably arent upgraded yet.
HSDPA is getting faster all the time though - in the UK we currently have about 1.2mb/s and expect 3mb/s by next year and maybe even 10mb/s in three years.
I'm only mentioning this as a 'just in case;'
If you're using PIE+ when doing your speed tests, disable PWO and then try it again.
yapp I've done the test when I visited my folks in Bucharest, H icon was there and both UL and DL were preety decent. Unfortunately we don't have yet UMTS in Canada, so all we can do is to wait
@ccezar:
im living in bucharest and hsdpa is working in some areas quite good, i got speeds of 800 kbps, which definitely is more than regular 3g. it all depends on the location, so i guess its no tytn fault, or whatever version of hermes you may have...
Iunutz6, Connex-Vod(k)afone is advertising 3.5G as so far I got from inside, they will incerease the speed to 7.2 Mbps. Just curious what would be UL and DL with a TYTN and with a normal PCMCIA 3G card, if are any differences, in Canada we won't have UMTS untill the end of the year

as far as i know, they are in tests and about to release the 1.3Mbps speed very soon, if not released already. as for the 7.2 Mbps, i havent heard anything, but i can check, i got connections inside.. maybe that means already 4g (WiMax), which is... long far away from here...
as for the differencies between 3g card and 3g capable phone, there should be no difference, as long as you can cponvince your tytn to act as a modem for your laptop, for example (internet sharing)..
is this what u asked me?
ok... I haven't read this for a long time... so... I have the M3100 with WM6 and HSDPA enabled.... stil the speed is regular 3G... 350-360kb/s... I don't know...
so... good news...
in the morning I have done the test on I don't know what site and it showed no HSDPA... now... dslreports.com is up again.... speed test... 1016kb/s... this is real mobile life
so... I HAVE HSDPA!!!
Has anyone tested their US tmo 3g speeds at any test sites?
i did mine today while connected to 3g and it only showed a DL speed of
68Mbps (484 Kbps)
thats like not even 1% better then edge speed....
i tested at testmyiphone.com
Those numbers don't compute. 68Mbs is blazing fast. Faster than even my cable modem, faster than any cellular connection on the planet, and way, way faster than 484Kbps.
68Mbs = 68000 kbps
484kbs = 0.484 Mbps
S
my bad. sorry if forgot the point.
so its:
.68 Mbps not 68
i downloaded a 3MB file in 83 seconds....
.68mbps is a lot? I thought 3G was at most like 1Mbps? I tethered to my laptop and got .86Mbps down and .30Mbps up.
no my first posting said 68 in error.. it should have read .68.
so his comment was regarding 68 being too fast and incorect on my part.
so the question stands at .68 for evaluation
about the same here
.47Mbps(469Kbps) DL speed3072 KB in 53.6 seconds
Have tested higher before
ok good..
what gets me is when the page says its only a small percentage faster then edge... this is my first 3g... so i have nothing to compare it too....

Much faster than edge on my retired tmo wing...lol
Saw 880kbps in downtown Rochester NY using the DSL reports mobile speed test last weekend. Much slower on 3G in Newport News VA during the week, in the 400kbps range (can't remember exactly)
Which browsers are you using to perform these tests? Opera? PIE? I got 120 KBs on PIE using 6mb test and 71KBs on Opera. Is this test even accurate for WMo considering it was setup for Iphone? I tried the download and the combination test, the download speed was much faster during the combination test.
Sorry to be off topic but i just had to ask this... I currently have a blackberry data plan with t-mo and would like to know if this will work with the touch pro 2 as far as internet connectivity goes. I didn't get it to work with the g1 and the mytouch since it connects with google servers and required web2go. any answers or thoughts?

works for me. Using BB plan on my Tmo TP2 no problem.
cool, thanks for the heads up. this is way cool.
Here are my data tests from when i first got the Tmo TP2 when it launched.
that's not bad at all.
i haven't tested since then, but i may
Good news guys tmo just sent out an internal letter to all employees that they will be throttleing up there 3g speed to 3.6 by late oct early nov. and 7.2 by mid december. and it also stated that there hsdpa 21 is in the near future at the begining of the year. that is pretty much verbatim of the email.
that's great news! now we're really making progress.
1.07Mbps/1065Kbps/130kBps tmobile 3g download test on testmyiphone site. BB curve managed to get 4-6kBps on edge before I switched to tp2
When I first got the TP2, I was getting speeds consistently over 1 M on the stock rom using mspeed, kind of shocked me as the google phones were never close to those speeds. I'm using the genesis rom now and still get pretty much the same speeds. I wonder why this phone is so much faster than the android phones!
i found a different thread but it talked about the icon.
i recently picked up a tilt 2.
now over wifi, with the att proxy disabled i compared my tilt 2 to my iphone 3g.
i used speedtest net. web app on the tilt 2 and on the iphone i can only use the app.
what i found interesting is on the iphone i get 5 megs down 600k up which is about right to what my dsl line is provisioned at currently.
when i run the test on my tilt2 the max i can hit is 1.5 megs down.
is this normal? software? hardware? when i goto connection settings on the tilt it shows down speed 54mbps upload at 1.... when i click my wifi connection on the tilt.
any info would be appreciated.
over 3g i get about the same speed 3g iphone vs tilt those add up. i'm not really intrested in the slow speed over 3g what is bothering me is why is this phone so slow over wifi.
one more thing i want to add, when i connect wifi, with data off
network advance, Tx rate is 54MBps Rx rate is always 1 Mbps.
no matter what rom i have on the device.
Mine does the same thing. I contacted HTC and they where no help. I'm thinking of calling HTC again and see if I get some one else that might have a clue. You would think that when you connect to Wi-Fi that you would get better than 1.5Mb/s.
same here. Tilt 2 max 1.5
same here.
Tilt 2 with default at&t rom, sim unlocked on Roger(canada) network with the good connection settings.
Max 1.5 moslty around 1 on both 3G and wifi.
bad hardware or just how it is?
i have tried a different radio flash no change. to me it seems like bad hardware or a hard cap in the phones hardware.
does anyone DO NOT observ this problem with is tilt 2?
Yea i am at about 1 mbps as well on wifi. With full reception on 3g though for some reason i can only get speeds of about .5-.7mbps what the hell. I called ATT and they said it was the device but who knows. I bought this phone because of the fact that it had HSDPA 7.2. (I spend a lot of time on the internet) and of course some of the other great features it offers but my iphone 3g out performs it :-( really aggrivating
I have the T-Mo touch pro 2 and I use my phone as a modem for my laptop and it always feels like the internet is screaming fast, how would I check to see how fast it's actually going so I can report?
well that is because when you teather your laptop it is going through a different set of towers and uses different data (or something like that) then if you are just browsing from your phone. To test the speed just teather your phone and go to speedtest.net
Slow here on ATT Tilt 2
I also seem to have the 1.5 max wifi, G3 is even slower.
Missing the kaiser (original Tilt) already
i called htc on this matter, and the guy i spoke to is getting the same results, 1.5Mbps max.
this phone is same speed wifi and 3g in terms of load, etc i find this hard to accept, my ipaq is 802.11b and it wifi connection is not throttled to 1.5Mbps like this phone.
rom's and radio make no difference to the speed and if its hard capped at 1.5Mbps how in the world can it even hit the crappy 7.2Mbps att is rolling out backwards.
those this problem only observ on the tilt 2 or tp2 from sprint or verizon also get the problem?

Yep, I have Verizon FIOS at the house, and we have the max speed, 25 down 15 up. Testing with speedtest.net on my laptop i average 19.5 down, 13.5 up.
Turn on the wifi on my tilt2, and I get 1.5 down, 1.2 up. Ouch.
I get 0.05 down and 0.32 up. I've been complaining about it for awhile now. I have spent a long time calling AT&T and visiting the store and in the end it has led to them telling me they need to send me a new phone. If I take that option, I will let everyone know if the new phone was the same.
Oh bother, same here.... Bounces at 1.5 down, .35 up. Like it's hard-coded to limit it to that speed.
Probably another way for ATT to give network priority to the sheephone.
it's really inacceptabled. I've bought the found from a second hand here in canada. I cannot change it like this. HTC must offer a solution to us. It's not only an at&t phone. It's a world phone.
Same here too.
WiFi on my laptop gets me 6-7, but Wifi on the Tilt2 maxes out around 1.5

I would have suspected that too, but when you switch to wifi, you are no longer on the AT&T 3G network. I think it has to be a hard limit on the phone. The question is, can that limit be "unlocked" somehow?

this is the question i asked htc. they are getting back to me.
i hope this is just a software issue that can be addressed with some sort of patch.
it feels like hardware since its on stock or cooked roms.
What kind of download speeds are you seeing on T-Mobile USA 3G network?
I have TP2 with the recent Tmobile 6.5 ROM installed(Build 21881.5.0.84), using the HTC Wifi Router program to tether to my laptop. I'm located in San Diego CA.
the best i can get through Speedtest.net is about .95Mbps. I thought T-Mobile is supposed to be up to 7Mbps now???
btw...mobilespeedtest.net is very inaccurate...it says im getting 10Mbps ha! yeah right!
It varies in the 1-2 Mbits/s region for me. But it's OK for phone usage.

I'm getting the same thing.
Actually, the 7.2Mbps before Christmas was T-Mo's goal. It seems they're only putting up some upgraded towers now (there's a thread about the new 3G --> H symbol flickering since we all used to only get the "H" here in the USA).

Just because they started their HSDPA coverage in Philly!
So how fast is the web browsing for you? I'm guessing it takes one second to completely load up a page?

I've found that Internet speeds are more apparent when the phone is used to tether a laptop. The page rendering speed can be limited by the speed of the processor in the device. I was surprised how fast the data speed really was the first time I tethered my laptop, since the laptop processor is so much faster and so the page-rendering isn't limiting.
This isn't quatitative...and I'm sure someone else knows at what data speed and processor speed each component becomes most-limiting.
Go to www.speedtest.net while your computer is tethered and post your results.

So, not having run a speedtest on my laptop in a while, I actually thought my roommate was lying to me when he said we should be getting faster internet. Apparently he's not. Question being, with the speeds people are pulling on LTE, why can't I pull the same speeds from my wifi on my laptop as my GN2? My laptop is getting 50mbps down, while my Note tops out around 25mbps although yesterday I pulled a couple over 30mbps which has never happened before. Can anyone explain why I'm topping out like that when so much more is capable?
It can be a number of factors, buildings , wind , weather, static interference, anything could be a factor. It won't always be consistent.

Those factors have nothing to do with wifi or why my phone wont go over 25mbps when it can go way higher than that.
It could be the type of wifi antenna that we have on the phone. Max speed is achieved using MIMO streams which required multiple wifi antennas. I suspect that GN2 wifi have only one antenna, one stream up or down.

Just seems odd that it maxes out at that speed on wifi yet with LTe its capable of double that. Does anyone else get more than 25mbps on their wifi?
Mobile app might not use as much data. Not as much time to optimize the connection and really fly.
The pc site may be allowed more bandwidth to get a speedy connection with.
My two cents.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
LTE and wifi are not using the same antenna. MINO is the basic for wifi (N) to achieve higher speed. If you go out and by wireless adaptor. Usually there 2 type of Wifi (N) offer 150N and 300N. The 150N has only one attenna, and the 300N usually has at least 2 or more.
So... still curious, what are others getting on their home wifi?
What is your link speed. My usually at home SD shows 39 or 52 mbit but I have seen 72 too. I dont have internet service fast enough to see if phone is the bottleneck.

When I look at the network in the task manager on windows I believe its actually like 130? Im at work now, have to check when I get home? Is that the correct way to find out?
computer - 32
phone - 27
At home I have 40/20MB and on my phone I get 38/19 at work I have 100/100MB and on my phone I get 85/80MB.

So my link speed right now is actually 144 mbps, though during busy times it might go down to 130. It definitely seems like we are supposed to have better internet because I remember a couple months ago it was only 72. Anyways, what exactly am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I be getting even better than 50mbps on my laptop, at least? Also, my router came from Comcast, do I need to upgrade it to get the full effect or are my laptop and phone somehow limited? At home I'm getting better than 50 on my laptop so shouldn't I be getting 35 or 40 then, no problem, on my Note? It would be aggravating if Comcast was charging me for faster internet but not telling me I needed a new modem to take advantage of it. Actually, more like stupid than aggravating.

Yes you will always loose some throughput over wireless unless you have a beast of a router but plugged in with the hardwire should give you full speed. I would test by hard wiring to the router with your laptop and running a speed test then hard wire to the modem and do a speed test. If both router and modem are the same. Then its a wireless issue.

Well, I'm obviously not going to hardwire my laptop or Note. Would simply spending 50 bucks on a router from best buy, also avoiding a rental fee from comcast, improve my optimal speeds for my laptop and N2?

That's just to trouble shoot if it is your router or modem that is bad so you don't buy a new one when that was not the problem.

Well it's just the normal router that comcast gave us but I believe this was actually the second time we've updated so couldn't it be possible our comcast issued router is outdated? I've never been able to get better on any public wifi. I've just always had this creeping feeling that my account is just old enough to be on a weird plan where I am throttled overall no matter where I'm at opposed to other people. I've just never been able to duplicate the speeds on any phone that other people in my same exact area have. Like I'm handicapped for some reason., I mean, I basically get the same speeds on my N2 that I got on my Sensation, if not lower sometimes, and that just makes no damn sense whatsover. Don't we have a kikass radio over the Sensation?

I'm seeing similar to what you're seeing. I just had Verizon replace my router with a new Actiontec MI424WR which has gigabit & 802.11n. I have FiOS 50/25.
On a laptop running Windows 7 with an Intel 6300n wireless adapter one room away from the router I get 48-55 down. Sitting next to the laptop with the GN2 running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 with the LTE updated modem I get no more than 20 down. If I hold the phone 12 inches from the router in the other room, my Speedtest result hits as high as 33 down. If I take the laptop into the room and run the test next to the router, I consistently see 58 down.
Edit: Prior to getting my router replaced, I had the old Actiontec with 802.11g and if I recall, the laptop & GN2 both got around 12-15 down. Never better. Replacing the router made a huge difference but the laptop saw a high max down.
